Basement siding and facade panels under the stone. Stone siding (65 photos): views, beautiful ideas Stone siding option

Stone plinth siding is a modern finishing material, which is one of the most popular today. It allows not only to insulate the building, but also to transform it. appearance. This ensures reliable protection of the building from negative impact external environment.

Facing stone siding has a natural texture and outwardly practically does not differ from natural material. And in some properties even surpasses it.

Among the many advantages that distinguish basement siding under the stone, we can distinguish the following:

The finishing material has a relatively small weight, which greatly facilitates the process of its installation. Wild stone siding can be used for any type of foundation. This property becomes especially relevant if we are talking about the reconstruction of old buildings.

Basement siding under wild stone is an eco-friendly type of finish. In the process of its production, safe materials and special additives are used to improve the quality characteristics of the product.

The material does not change its properties under conditions of sharp temperature fluctuations.

Plinth siding under the stone reliably protects the walls from moisture and prevents the formation of condensate. Due to this, mold or fungus does not appear on the surface of the material.

Such a coating does not require additional finishing and retains an excellent appearance throughout the entire service life.

The material has an improved locking system that provides the panels with additional wear resistance.

Stone siding is not required special care. You can remove dirt with ordinary water and detergents at hand.

Currently, stone plinth siding is represented by a wide variety of collections of various shades and textures. This material can be of two types:

Metal siding. It is characterized by increased strength and wear resistance. One of the main advantages of metal siding is high fire safety. That is why the material is wide application when decorating public and administrative institutions.

Vinyl stone siding. This material is made from polyvinyl chloride. facade plastic panels under the stone do not crack, do not dry out and are not subject to rotting processes. The material perfectly withstands the effects of wind, snow, rain and other negative external factors. Plastic stone siding does not require much maintenance. The service life of the product is at least twenty years. At the same time, wall siding under a stone has a fairly democratic cost.

Modern materials can imitate:

smooth stone;

  • antique hand-molded stone;
  • aged stone;
  • antique stone;
  • cobblestone and boulder masonry;
  • "torn" stone;
  • rubble stone;
  • marble, granite, limestone and other rocks.

Photos of options for finishing facades with various types of basement siding under a stone are presented on the Internet.

As noted above, facade panels under a stone have rather small weight and the thought-over system of fastenings. Thanks to this, their installation can be done independently, without resorting to the services of specialized teams.

Installation of facing facade panels under a stone is carried out in several stages:

  1. First you need to equip the crate. It can be made of a metal profile and wooden bars. When arranging the crate, it must be borne in mind that the distance between the panels and the ground should be at least fifteen centimeters.
  2. After installing the profile, you should correctly cut the facade siding under the stone. Some structural elements can be cut in a special way. For example, stairs.
  3. The next step is to install the launch pad. Experts recommend starting installation from the left edge.
  4. Then the subsequent rows are laid. Please note that the facing panels under the wild stone are installed as close as possible to each other. No gaps should form in this case. If the facade panels wild stone» mounted on a wooden crate, nails can be used to install them. If we are talking about steel elements, special self-tapping screws are suitable.

Important: the Wild Stone facade panels must be mounted in such a way that thermal gaps remain. They must be present regardless of which crate the base material is being laid on. If thermal gaps are not provided, over time, stone-like facade panels may deform and lose their presentable appearance (numerous photos of such examples can be found on the Internet).

Materials imitating the structure of natural stone are becoming more and more popular and are used both for interior and exterior decoration of buildings. Owners country houses sometimes you have to install plinth finished with vinyl siding to save on fitters.

The installation technology of such siding depends on its type and design features. Therefore, in this article we will talk about what kind of "stone" siding is, as well as how to install it.

Stone siding is used, as a rule, for lining plinths, so it must have increased mechanical strength and resistance to aggressive environments.

The main types of stone siding are vinyl, metal, and fiber cement.

Vinyl siding

This material is in the greatest demand among consumers, since, with many advantages, it differs in affordability: the average price for square meter is 500-600 rubles.

Benefits of vinyl panels

  • Large selection of decors, the ability to choose a siding that imitates any natural stone.

  • Natural appearance: the slabs are intentionally irregular in shape, conveying the natural texture of natural material. It is possible to distinguish such a finish from natural stone cladding only up close.
  • Resistant to fading and temperature extremes.
  • Vinyl siding does not rot or corrode when exposed to moisture. Unlike natural stone, it does not support the growth of mold and moss.

  • Facing a house with PVC stone siding is very durable: the impact-resistant surface does not crack or break, as is often the case with natural stone.

Advice. by all listed advantages have only high-quality panels produced in compliance with the technology.
Therefore, we do not recommend purchasing suspiciously cheap basement siding. It may have problems with strength and color fastness.

Stone vinyl siding installation

Note. Any siding that imitates stone can be used to cover not only the lower part of the house, but also the walls.
But when finishing the basement, special attention should be paid to the device of the crate. Ideally, it should be galvanized or stainless steel.
If they are used wooden blocks, they should certainly be impregnated with an antiseptic.

Sequence of work:

  • Install vertical batten battens under the siding to mount outside corners. They are mounted at a certain distance from the corner of the building on both sides.
    The distance is determined by applying a decorative corner element to the installation site: the axis of the rail must coincide with the mounting holes.
  • For do-it-yourself installation of siding panels, horizontal rails are fastened between vertical rails. The distance between them should be equal to the width of the panel.

Advice. To give the cladding additional rigidity, it is recommended to fix an additional one between these rails. The outer surface of all rails must be in the same plane.

  • Fasten the starting strip on the lower horizontal rail. Mounting is done in increments of 30 cm.
  • Set the outer corners so that their bottom edge is flush with the starting strip.

  • Cut the first panel at a right angle, snap it onto the starter strip, slide it into the groove of the corner piece and attach it to the batten through the holes in the top edge.
  • Do not cut the rest of the panels, install them in the same way, in the grooves of the previous ones.
  • The last panel in the row should also be cut on the right side, so that the cut edge fits into the groove of the right outer corner.

Note!
The installation instructions require that the last panel be no shorter than 30 cm.

  • Start the installation of the next row by installing the cut off part of the last panel of the previous row (if it is at least 30 cm).

metal siding

Metal stone siding is stronger than vinyl, but the "fake" is visible from afar, as the stone pattern is simply applied to the metal panels. The lack of relief does not allow believing that this is a natural material.

But the installation of stone siding from metal profiles is easier.

Moreover, you can choose the desired mounting direction - vertical or horizontal.

  • For horizontal finishing, choose the “ship board” profile. In this case, the crate is installed vertically in increments of 60 cm.
    As in the previous case, the starting bar is attached to the bottom edge of the base. The panels are cut to length, the first of them clings to the starting bar and is attached to the crate with self-tapping screws into the perforated edge. Before installing the last panel under the cornice, the final bar is mounted.

  • Vertical metal panels are mounted on a horizontal crate, their lower edge rests on a plinth or blind area and is subsequently closed with special additional elements.
    Installation is carried out from the opening or corner of the building, the panels are joined together and fastened in the same way as with horizontal finishing.

fiber cement siding

If you want stone-effect siding to be as strong, durable, and realistic as possible, choose fiber cement siding with ceramic coating.

For reference. The most plausible is the siding of the Japanese brand Nichiha. A cheaper analogue is domestic siding under Rospan stone.

Material Description

In the manufacture of fiber cement siding under the stone in cement mortar cellulose fibers and mineral chips are added. As a result, after hardening, the material receives increased strength, resistance to fire and any external influences, and a rough texture inherent in natural stone.

Finished panels are supplied with locks for butt mounting, which can be located both around the entire perimeter, and only on the long sides. They are produced in different thicknesses from 8 to 35 mm. Panels up to 14 mm thick are fastened through with self-tapping screws. More massive - with the help of hidden clamps.

How to install cement siding

  • Guides for mounting siding panels are installed vertically with a step that is a multiple of the length of the panels. The width of the guides themselves must be sufficient so that they can fasten two joined panels.
  • The first row of panels is attached to the crate so that between their lower edge and the blind area (plinth) there is a ventilation gap 1-1.5 cm high.
  • The panels are connected to each other by means of a tongue-and-groove lock. If there are such locks only on the long side, then the vertical lockless joints are filled with sealant.
  • If the siding is mounted on self-tapping screws, then their caps are slightly recessed into the body of the panel, smeared with mastic and painted over with the paint included in the siding kit.

Facade - business card at home, and the main task of the owners is to preserve it for many years. The proposed article contains useful information about stone siding, prices and main features. various kinds material. You will get acquainted with the advantages and disadvantages of vinyl, acrylic, metal and fiber cement panels and the rules for choosing them.

Strict compliance with the natural original

About using siding

Among the various materials used in exterior finish, natural stone siding is considered one of the most popular. It is customary to call siding panels that imitate natural masonry; the height of the relief in some models can reach 16-18 mm.

There are two types of siding on the market - facade and basement. The latter is a kind of facade panels and has improved characteristics. This difference is explained by the peculiarities of operation: the basement of the building must cope with greater loads than the facade, and the basement materials are designed to protect the base from rain and melt water, snow and freezing. Both types can be used for facade cladding; while finishing plinth panels will require more investment.

Advantages and disadvantages

Finishing a house with stone-like siding solves not only decorative, but also practical tasks, which include the following advantages:

    Strength. The finish is designed for long-term operation without changing the original characteristics.

Beautiful and practical

    Home longevity. During the installation of panels, technological ventilation gaps are formed, thanks to which the facade of the house is protected from moisture.

    unpretentiousness. Products are resistant to temperature fluctuations and high humidity, do not rot and are not attractive to mold.

    Ease of installation. The lightness of the material makes the work easy and fast; the involvement of highly qualified personnel is not required.

    Practicality. Finishing is carried out using a hinged ventilated facade. This makes it possible to hide construction defects and visually change the proportions of the building. The surface does not require regular maintenance.

    Accurate simulation. A house lined with stone-like siding looks like a building made of natural material; not every specialist will notice the difference from a few steps.

Types of siding

To pick up best option, you need to understand that there are several types of siding for natural stone, with different characteristics. Knowing the features of certain products, you can make an informed choice.

Vinyl siding

Vinyl panels are made from polyvinyl chloride, which determines most of the advantages of finishing:

    Durability. Guarantee period different models is 20-30 years or more.

    Versatility. Vinyl siding is suitable for cladding foundations and facades. Lightweight flexible material does not weigh down the structure, it can be used on any building, from wood to concrete.

    energy efficiency. Facing facades and plinths with siding, together with an insulating layer, improves the thermal insulation of the house. Maintenance costs comfortable temperature in housing will decrease both in winter and in summer (heating or air conditioning).

Acrylic siding

You can buy stone-like siding for house cladding, the price and parameters of which differ from those of vinyl material. Acrylic siding is made from acrylic polymers, so some of its properties differ from those of the vinyl counterpart, and look like this:

    Fortitude. The material is resistant to high temperatures and chemical influences (acids, fats, alkalis and salts). The casing does not change its properties, heating up to + 75-80 ° С.

    UV resistance. Burns out in the sun 8-10 times slower than vinyl panels.

    Price. Improved performance determines the higher cost of acrylic panels. Prices for acrylic siding in Moscow start from 260-280 rubles per piece. (domestic), from 300-380 rubles / piece. (German, Canadian).

metal siding

Metal siding panels are made of high quality galvanized steel (thickness 0.4–0.5 mm). A polymer layer is applied on top, which improves the quality of the product. Metal siding offered by manufacturers can imitate the surface of wood, stone or brickwork indistinguishable from the real one. Product characteristics can be represented as follows:

    Operational properties. Metal siding is stronger than plastic counterparts. The material is quite durable and non-combustible, well resists temperature changes and mechanical deformations.

    The weight. The panels are heavier than polymer varieties of siding, which makes the cladding process more laborious.

    Usage. The facade of metal siding under the stone looks like a monolithic stone surface. Finishing allows repainting - over time, you can change the annoying shade of the brick facade.

    disadvantages. There are two of them - a more complex installation of panels and possible corrosion in places of damage.

    Price starts from about 420-540 rubles / piece. (depending on size and thickness).

fiber cement siding

Fiber cement siding panels for the exterior of a house under a stone can transform any building. These facade products consist of cement, cellulose fibers, sand and water (sometimes synthetic fibers and lime are included). Thanks to special technologies cladding can be given any appearance and shade (for which resistant acrylic paint). Fiber cement siding is good for many reasons:

    Physical Properties. cement base material makes it incombustible. Fiber cement siding enhances the heat-insulating and sound-absorbing properties of facade walls.

    Operational properties. Due to the strength and plasticity of fiber cement panels, they have a long service life in any climatic conditions. The material retains its color throughout the warranty period.

    Environmental friendliness. The composition includes only natural materials not hazardous to health.

About selection rules

When choosing siding, pay attention not only to the price, but also to some additional conditions:

    Place of purchase. It is better to purchase materials in specialized departments, where you can see the goods in person and chat with a sales assistant. Pay attention to the manufacturer, check the availability of certificates, specify the terms of the guarantee.

    Choosing the type of siding. The choice depends on the place of use of the skin. For example, while vinyl siding, with its frost resistance, is ideal for areas with harsh winters, then UV-resistant acrylic panels are beneficial in sunny areas.

    Durability. Every owner wants to buy quality material. So that the siding does not peel off, does not swell, does not exfoliate and retains its color, purchase products with a quality guarantee. The seller must present all the necessary certificates (compliance, hygienic and fire safety); the documents must indicate the technical parameters and the address of the manufacturer.

    The presence of an anti-hurricane lock. The connection is a sign of quality products, thanks to it the skin will not suffer from strong gusts of wind.

Plinth side panel

    Appearance. Inspection allows you to weed out products with damage and discrepancies in the pattern on different panels. Assessing the appearance, pay attention to the thickness (it should be the same throughout the panel) and color uniformity.

    Design possibilities. Stone-look siding houses have an elegant look and fit into any landscape. Various collections of siding panels differ in the level of elaboration - the texture can be applied in the form of a pattern or be embossed; imitate granite, brick, marble, small and large natural stone, tuff and slate.

    Accessories. Many collections include trims and accessories. Such additions must be identical to the main panels in color and texture, otherwise the structure will look sloppy.

    Style. It is better to think over the design of the facade in advance. You can use one type of panel for the entire façade, or you can visually separate the plinth and walls with panels different color and/or invoices. The same materials can be used to decorate a barn, a bathhouse, a gazebo or a well.

Siding trim will decorate any home

Conclusion

Using other materials for facade cladding, you will be forced to think about repair or replacement in 5-7 years. The average service life of siding is 20-25 years, for facade panels it reaches 40-50 years. The choice of these materials is based on a reasonable, economic approach - without subsequent maintenance and periodic processing, the safety of the facade can be forgotten for a quarter of a century.

Currently, there is a huge variety of facing materials for finishing the facade of the house. Natural or artificial stone has always been in great demand, which has not changed to this day. It is still used for facade work and has many advantages, including an extensive selection color solutions, shapes and textures, high quality construction, as well as a long service life.

However a natural stone is not cheap, so not every modern person can afford such a luxurious purchase. We have to look for a worthy alternative, for example , stone siding. Today this facade material is practically not inferior in quality to a natural product and is the ideal, most affordable solution for decorative finishes houses.

It is no secret that facade panels are a high-quality imitation of natural wood cladding materials. In its turn, basement option resembles stone or brick in appearance. The latter type differs significantly from the former in shape, thickness, and other features.

In any case, both varieties are excellent for sheathing. modern houses, and stone-look siding also has additional advantages over conventional material.

Use of high-quality imitation of natural stone will allow you to realize any design dream and transform the room. After the completion of the facing work, your home will become more solid, respectable and modern. In addition, it will contain notes typical of the old buildings of the Victorian era.

The panels are able to qualitatively imitate large boulders, flat slabs, white rubble stone and other luxurious facing materials. Externally, the product is a high-quality shield of medium width, which is cut off on the sides, at the junction of masonry fragments.

Unlike the facade version, panels for stone siding more reliable and impact resistant.

To date, on sale you can find the following types of stone siding:

  1. Vinyl;
  2. Metal;
  3. Acrylic;
  4. fiber cement;

In addition, many types of material are available on the market according to the color and texture of the simulated surface:

And many others.

Assortment of colors and textures artificial stone very extensive. In addition, new developments appear on sale, allowing you to choose an additional option for finishing the room.

It is important to note the fact that stone siding is a versatile material and can even be used for interior decoration.

Advantages and disadvantages of stone siding

Like any other facing material, stone siding has its own strengths and weaknesses. First, let's talk about the benefits:

  • The multiple grandeur of panel designs, stonework colors and textures. Facing with such material allows you to realize any design idea and improve the appearance of the house;
  • Maximum similarity with natural stone material;
  • The small dimensions of the panels, which greatly simplifies installation and allows you to do it yourself, without outside help;
  • Reliability of fixation due to high-quality docking points;
  • No high maintenance requirements (it is enough to pour water from a hose to wash away dirt or dust);
  • Long service life. In most cases, the operational durability is comparable to the period of the building itself;

Of the minuses of artificial stone siding:

However, stone siding has more pros than cons.

Metal decorative siding

This material is made made of high quality galvanized steel, which is treated with a polymeric protective coating. The stamped relief repeats the texture of various types of masonry and is processed with several decorative layers. As a result, it is possible to produce a high-quality panel with a reliable surface.

Compared to conventional metal siding, the stone siding option is thicker and heavier. But the strength indicators are much better, so this sheathing remains reliable and durable. The cost of the product is about twice as high as vinyl solutions.

Vinyl stone siding

Today on the market you can find a lot of varieties of decorative siding for cladding the exterior of the house. And if you're looking for an affordable material that feels like real hearthstone, vinyl item - most the best way for your home. It is distinguished by such advantages as increased stability to intense exposure to moisture and elevated temperatures, impact resistance, long service life, as well as low cost. In addition, the facade decoration with this type of siding stands out for its beautiful elegant appearance, because. A wide range of colors and designs are available for sale.

Even an inexperienced person can finish the facade of the house with vinyl siding. the procedure does not require special skills and abilities. Naturally, when carrying out facing work, some nuances should be taken into account and all calculations should be carefully made, including the area of \u200b\u200bthe object, upcoming costs and time for finishing.

important with high precision calculate the area of an object on which the facing work will be carried out. Experienced craftsmen advise using the method of geometric partitioning, which involves dividing the territory into several separate figures. At the final stage, these areas are combined into one. Another method stands out for its higher execution speed and reliability. It represents the use of an online calculator on a proven building resource. In this case, possible difficulties in finishing will be prevented.

Ground stone siding: features and benefits

To a greater extent, the market for facing materials belongs to facade panels based on vinyl siding. The thing is, what is the product? boasts many valuable advantages. Among them:

As for covering houses with vinyl panels, it remains very simple. The fact is that the siding available in modern hardware stores is equipped with a special mount that simplifies the installation procedure. There are two types of fastening:

  • With hitch;
  • Fastening type "thorn-groove";

To successfully complete the paneling of the house, you must prepare the surface in advance, following the instructions.

Acrylic siding

This type of decorative siding has many similarities with vinyl, but the manufacturing technology itself is significantly different. The acrylic variety has many advantages, including tolerance to high temperatures and weather changes, neutrality to chemicals and a wide choice of textures. Acrylic siding is slightly more expensive than vinyl siding. Today it is used for finishing residential buildings, country houses, public institutions and other objects. Due to its excellent performance properties, acrylic siding can be used in places with unstable climatic conditions, increased fire hazard, humidity or exposure to aggressive substances.

fiber cement siding

Appeared on our market relatively recently, but in Western countries it has been used for more than a dozen years. The key benefits of such facing material are in extreme strength and easy tolerance of any atmospheric and mechanical loads.

Unfortunately, there is no detailed description of fiber cement siding, but the main points can still be distinguished.

It is known that the material has an impressive mass. A house sheathed with fiber cement siding receives an additional load of several tons, and the thickness of the panels is 10 mm.

The material remains quite expensive, and sometimes its cost exceeds the cost of high-quality wooden solutions. As a result, demand for this type of siding is fairly low, although many homeowners often cite the material's superior properties.

When buying stone siding, it is important to take into account all its characteristics, terrain features and your financial capabilities. It is important to understand that the market is constantly updated with new solutions, and older products are being replaced by more advanced new ones. And even if the latter are not popular enough due to the lack of good advertising, they can be very reliable and durable.

findings

The use of stone siding panels in modern construction- This the most affordable and high-quality way of external wall cladding, which provides maximum protection of the wall cake from any atmospheric manifestations. Due to the ease of installation, the absence of high maintenance requirements and low cost, the material is in great demand.

Metal siding under the stone - one of the many varieties finishing materials. Finishing the facade of buildings with natural stone is a very beautiful, durable and prestigious method, but due to the high cost of materials, it is not available to all developers. Modern technologies allowed manufacturers to produce various materials imitating natural stone. For the price, they suit most consumers, and in terms of their performance they are not much inferior to natural ones.

  1. Light weight. Allows you to finish buildings without the need to strengthen the foundations. It is possible to overhaul old buildings with a high percentage of wear and tear of architectural structures.
  2. Life time is calculated in tens of years, subject to the technology recommended by the manufacturer and the use quality materials. Metal siding coatings are not afraid of hard ultraviolet rays, they perfectly hold dynamic and static loads. Modern finishes scratch little.
  3. Ease of care. Dust does not accumulate on ideally smooth surfaces, due to this, the development of mosses is inhibited. Siding is cleaned with ordinary water from a garden hose or a soft brush.
  4. Manufacturability. Installation can be done independently, for work there is no need to buy special tools and fixtures.
  5. Low price. The estimated cost of finishing work using metal siding is one of the lowest among all existing options.

All types of metal siding are distinguished by these advantages, but the “under the stone” option has one significant drawback - it bears little resemblance to natural stone. Why?

The main difference between the stone is its volumetric texture. Stone metal siding has flat surfaces on which a pattern is applied. Only people with great imagination can see in it a natural stone. It is very difficult to find such siding in the implementation, and not because it is in great demand among consumers, but quite the opposite. Manufacturers know that this material is bought very rarely and, therefore, they almost do not produce this type of product. There are many other much more advanced materials that imitate natural stone.

Metal siding "Vertical"

It is advisable to use metal siding under a stone during the repair of old buildings and only to protect the basement of the foundation. Consider two examples of work performed: protection of a small basement and finishing of an insulated basement.

What are the criteria for choosing metal siding under a stone

  • sizes. Depending on the capabilities of manufacturers, they fluctuate widely. If you are going to sheathe small areas, then you can calculate the number of panels, taking into account its size - there will be no waste at all. If the area is large, then the last panel in all cases will have to be cut. One more piece of advice. The thinner the sheet steel, the narrower the panels are to buy. With an increase in width, the ability to perceive loads decreases, and this is a very important indicator when sheathing the basement parts of buildings;
  • sheet thickness. In the implementation there is a metal siding with a panel thickness of 0.4 to 0.55 mm or more. The thicker the sheet, the higher the performance of the material. If the building has an increased risk of damage to the skin, then buy panels with the maximum thickness of the steel sheet;
  • zinc coating thickness. The current standards regulate the thickness of the zinc layer in the range of 20-40 microns. A very thin zinc coating significantly reduces the reliability of anti-corrosion protection. For ordinary buildings it is recommended to buy siding with a zinc thickness of approximately 25-30 microns;
  • external decorative coating. In addition, it also performs a protective function. Several materials are used as such coatings.

Table. External decorative coating.

CoatingDescription

The cheapest, coating thickness from various manufacturers in the range of 25-25 microns. The quality is not quite suitable for finishing facade walls, especially basement parts.

The thickness can reach 200 microns, which allows you to create structured surfaces under natural stone. But the embossed texture is more exposed to pollution. In addition, plastisol reacts negatively to exposure to harsh ultraviolet rays. You can buy it if the buildings are located in shaded areas.

One of the most modern coatings, in terms of performance, it occupies a leading position. Thickness approximately 50 µm. The disadvantage is the high cost.

The coating is made on the basis of polyvinyl difluoride and acrylic, has a unique feature to independently tighten micro-scratches. An excellent option for finishing facades. The disadvantage is that such metal siding is not affordable for all consumers.

Pay attention to the storage conditions and packaging of the material. It is not uncommon for irresponsible distributors to damage entire batches of goods, and then try to sell it to inexperienced consumers. If you notice tears, traces of dirt or mechanical damage– buy materials elsewhere. Fortunately, today this is not a problem, the number of offers far exceeds the possibilities of buyers.

As for manufacturers, it is safer to give preference to foreign ones. But even among domestic companies, several very responsible ones have appeared, and there are representatives in different regions. The manufacture of siding is not such a technically complicated process, the main thing is that they buy high-quality raw materials and strictly adhere to the developed technologies. For the price, the spread is large, universal advice for all occasions does not exist. Make a decision based on your wishes and financial possibilities.

Sheathing of a small old plinth

Such plinths have very old buildings, they (plinths) are much wider than the thickness of the facade walls. Due to such architectural features and a long period of operation, structures are destroyed. If they are not protected in a timely manner, then a set of special construction measures will have to be carried out to restore the bearing capacity of the foundation, and this is very difficult and expensive.

Covering the surface with metal siding under the stone will not only extend the life of the building, but also improve its appearance. It makes no sense to insulate plinths with a height of 30–40 cm, so we will not describe this operation.

You need to start with the manufacture of the crate. If for house cladding it is possible to make formwork both from wooden slats and from metal profiles, then for the basement we recommend using only the second option - too difficult operating conditions, wooden materials won't last long. The condition and durability of the sheathing largely depends on the quality of the formwork, let's dwell on this topic in more detail.

Step 1. Measure the plinth and purchase materials. The area of the frame is small, for its manufacture you can buy profiles of the cheapest segment or use the segments that remained after the cladding of the facade walls of the building. For fixing vertical supports, you need to have long dowels with a size of at least 100 mm.

Important. During the manufacture of the frame, always leave a gap below between it and the blind area of at least three centimeters. This is necessary to compensate for the winter heaving of the earth. There is no need to close this gap with anything, through it will be carried out natural ventilation wall cladding.

The set of metal profiles includes the following elements.

NameBrief description and purpose

The most demanded elements carry the main load. Length 2.5–4.0 m, width 60 mm, shelves 2.7–2.8 cm high.

Metal siding is directly fixed on them. When creating structures of small area and weight, they can be used as rack-mounted ones. Wall thickness ≈0.50 mm, width 2.7 cm, shelf height 2.8 cm, length ≈3 m.
Partition profilesIt makes sense to purchase if there are windows on the base, which allow you to save more expensive profiles. Shelf height 3.7–4.0 cm, width 4–15 cm.

They allow you to connect the same profiles at different levels to each other, they are used during the creation of a complex frame on plinths with various protruding architectural elements.

They greatly simplify and speed up the process of assembling the frame, connect the cut pieces of the profile into a single structure at the same level. To increase the strength of the connection, self-tapping screws can be additionally installed.

Serve for fixing and leveling the position of the bearing rack profiles. They speed up work much, allow you to accurately align the crate vertically and horizontally.

They are used in cases where, for various reasons, direct hangers do not have enough length: too uneven basement surface, the need to remove the skin from the foundation as much as possible due to the presence of various engineering systems, etc.

It is not necessary to buy the entire set of metal profiles and additional elements; for each specific case, you should choose your own package and the number of elements.

Step 2 At a distance of approximately 40 cm, install suspensions along the entire base at the top and bottom. First, mark the lines, they should be on the same level. Hangers are fixed with dowels, we recommend using long ones, in our case the foundation is very old and the outer surfaces have obvious signs of destruction. Long dowels allow you to fix the frame to deep, durable layers of concrete.

Step 3 At the extreme corners of the base, set the vertical rack profiles. The distance from the corner should be such that further on them it is possible to fix the corner elements of the skin. Set them strictly vertically in level. The length of the profiles should be 5-6 cm more than the estimated height of the frame. Pull the ropes between them at the top and bottom, make marks with a water or laser level. Carefully cut off the protruding parts along the rope.

To cut metal profiles, as well as siding, by the way, it is recommended to use metal shears, an electric jigsaw with a special saw blade, a multifunctional cutter or electric punching shears.

You can follow these recommendations of manufacturers, or you can take an example from professionals and cut with an ordinary grinder with an abrasive disc: simple and fast. Do not be afraid that corrosion protection will be removed in areas near the cut.

  1. First, the width of such sections does not exceed a few millimeters.
  2. Secondly, the ends are always closed, precipitation does not fall on them, they will rust for many years.
  3. Thirdly, even completely rusted small parts do not affect the strength of the frame in any way.

Anyone who has tried working with tools recommended by manufacturers knows how inconvenient and time consuming it is. In addition, it is impossible to cut a complex profile with most of them; you must first cut with some tools, and then cut individual sections with others. But we only give practical advice the final decision is always yours.

Step 4 Attach the profile to the upper ends of the vertical posts. You can fix it immediately to the side surfaces with self-tapping screws or use special connecting additional elements. There is no difference, the profile perceives only a slight vertical load.

Step 5 Mark the level on the wall frame, beat off the horizontal line. On it, fix another long profile. You can take any, including the guide.

Step 6 At a distance of approximately 40–50 cm, fix the jumpers between two long horizontal profiles. There will be tides on the lintels.

Once again, check the position of the frame, make sure it is sufficiently rigid. If everything is in order, then you can proceed to sheathing the side surfaces with metal siding under the stone.

Algorithm for siding work

Step 1. At the bottom, set the starting profile to which the starting bar will be fixed.

Step 2 Fasten the corner strips, they are sold complete with metal siding.

Step 3 Start lining the plinth. If the length of the plinth is greater than the length of the panels, then a connecting profile must be mounted.

Practical advice. The blind area of old houses is often inclined, this complicates the process of fixing the first panel a little, it has to be cut at an angle. Take exact measurements, cut the first panel at the desired angle. In this case, instead of the launch pad, you need to put a G-profile. It is desirable to paint over the place of the cut or smear it with automobile oil.

During the fastening of the panels, the self-tapping screws are screwed in strictly in the middle of the special holes, do not tighten with great effort. If you work with an electric screwdriver, then be sure to adjust the amount of torque. The thickness of the profiles is insignificant, with an increase in the tightening force, the screws will turn and they will have to be installed in a new place, and this is not always possible. In addition, strong tightening prevents the compensation of thermal expansions of the metal.

Step 4 If the finish panel extends beyond the top level of the crate, then it should also be cut. Metal siding will have to be fixed in new holes. Make them oblong too, install the self-tapping screw in the middle. Tighten with double caution in these places. The thin metal of the panel will definitely bend with slight indentation efforts. The screw heads are not a problem, they will hide under the bend of the ebb.

Step 5 Install a tide. It is fixed with self-tapping screws with rubber washers, which exclude moisture from entering the skin. The overlap of the tides is at least ten centimeters, otherwise water may get under it. If for some reason the olives do not lie in the same horizontal plane, then the overlap must be done in the direction opposite to the water stack. To guarantee tightness, you can use any sealant. Spread a narrow strip at the overlap and fix the elements.

Practical advice. The ebbs can be screwed not from above, but to the end. To do this, you will have to accurately measure their dimensions and order the manufacture of tinsmiths or do it yourself. For fixing, use self-tapping screws in the color of the siding. The second side should be fixed to the crate of the wall of the building.

If there is a desire, then the corners of the ebb can be cut off at an angle of 45 °, remove the burrs and rivet the connection, the connection is smeared with sealant from below. This somewhat complicates the plinth sheathing technology, but improves the appearance.

Insulated plinth sheathing

As a basement insulation, it is recommended to use only durable and waterproof materials, the best solution is to use extruded polystyrene foam or basalt mineral wool. In terms of physical parameters, these heaters are quite suitable for any skin.

What should you pay attention to?

  1. Be sure to leave the vents open, otherwise everything wooden structures flooring will be damaged by fungal diseases and mold. In order to reduce heat losses from the premises of buildings in winter, they are buried; in the warm period of time, ventilation must be effective. To protect against penetration into the underground of rodents, metal meshes can be used.

  2. If the width of the plinth is equal to the width of the facade walls, then the crate can be made common in one plane, and for sheathing apply Various types materials. Metal siding under the stone is installed at the bottom of the building.

  3. Never forget to leave room for linear expansion compensation.

  4. Do not fix the metal profile close to the soil and blind areas, such structures are necessarily deformed.

  5. Follow the recommendations of manufacturers, purchase basic and additional materials from the same company. Each of them manufactures products according to its own specifications, often elements of the same purpose are not identical. This can cause problems during finishing work.
  6. On the Internet, you can find examples of work in which the lower starting guides are attached to the blind area with dowels. Gross mistake don't repeat it.

How to make plinth sheathing if the facade walls are made of facing bricks? The installation of the crate is carried out according to the algorithm described above, the differences appear only when installing the ebb. There are two options for fixing ebbs: complex and reliable and simple and unreliable.

Which method to choose - decide for yourself.
