Internal insulation of the balcony: stages, methods, technology for laying foam, polystyrene and mineral wool. How to insulate a loggia from the inside: do-it-yourself instructions for warming a loggia on the first floor of a panel house

Today's balcony in many apartments turns into a full-fledged room, a functional space. This is especially true for small apartments, whose residents appreciate every centimeter. If the balcony is insulated, it becomes an office, pantry, resting place, mini greenhouse, dining room or extra bed. There are many options for its use. The main thing is to do quality work on its insulation. Only in this case it will be warm and cozy on the balcony.

Features and Benefits

In the warm season, the whole family can relax on the balcony, but when autumn comes, this room becomes useless. If you warm it up, the situation will change. The advantage is that all the planned work is easy to do on your own. An additionally warm room is a space in which it is easy to create a small work area or a relaxation area. In addition, the presence of a warm balcony will automatically make the apartment cozier and warmer. You can attach a living room or a kitchen to it, depending on its location. This will create extra space.

Before you engage in insulation or glazing, you need to get expert advice. He will definitely tell you what load a warm balcony can withstand, whether it is worth strengthening it. If the base is a powerful concrete slab, the question of reinforcement does not arise. But the metal parapet must be reinforced with foam blocks or light bricks from ceramic material. The same should be done in the case of unstable fastening of the reinforced concrete base.

Double-glazed windows can be used for insulation wooden frames. They are environmentally friendly, allow the windows to "breathe", but are expensive. Aluminum windows insulated with polyamide inserts increase the thermal insulation of the room. The most optimal would be the equipment of PVC windows with double-glazed windows, which will reliably retain heat.

Such windows are cheaper than wooden ones, but at the same time their thermal insulation is not inferior to aluminum ones.

What materials are better to choose

For finishing balconies or loggias today there are many varieties of finishing materials, with the help of which they give even the smallest room an original and attractive look. The main thing is to do right choice finishing material. For insulation, experts recommend using cork, plastic panels, lining with a wooden or plastic base, drywall, plaster, MDF panels, decorative rock, aluminum profile, penoplex, expanded polystyrene, penofol.

Mineral wool, foam plastic trim is an excellent solution for self-insulating a room.

In the case of an uninsulated balcony, it is better to give preference artificial stone, plastic frost-resistant lining, cork panels or tiles. The most commonly used finishing materials are:

Drywall

  • This material is distinguished by the fact that it does not contain toxic substances, it is easy to process and is combined with other finishing materials in design. Drywall can be plastered, painted, wallpapered, paneled and clapboarded. With the help of such a versatile material, it is enough to simply turn the balcony into a full-fledged living room.

PVC panels

  • A practical solution, but it is better not to use this material if the constant temperature on the balcony is below five degrees. This problem can be solved with the help of frost-resistant panels developed using new technologies. This material is not afraid of moisture, but is able to quickly lose color from direct sunlight. This point should be taken into account if the room is located on the south side. Advantages: low cost, quick and easy installation with glue.

Cork panels

  • They create a cosiness that cannot be organized using others. Decoration Materials. Cork panels are pressed cork oak bark. Cork panels are easy to install and are suitable for any type of balcony, regardless of the temperature level in the room. The cork panel does not absorb foreign odors, including the smell of tobacco. Lack of material - high price. For insulation, they also use inexpensive foam plastic, and mineral wool is perfect.

How to properly insulate a balcony with your own hands: step by step instructions

A balcony in a city apartment is a special space. This piece of the house, taken out under the open sky, can become an office, a greenhouse or a recreation area, one has only to glaze and isolate it.

Warming the balcony with your own hands will save a lot of money. Sheathing in panel house, in "Khrushchev" is done taking into account the characteristics of the apartment and building.

  • Step 1. To begin with, the old frames are dismantled, the surface is prepared and things are taken out. Insulation from the inside is an important step in the whole process.

  • Step 2. At the second stage it is necessary to make a balcony glazing. Nai the best option there will be windows plastic pvc. Many people prefer to keep the old wood frames. However, remember that even if wooden structures in good condition, they will not be able to organize the same heat savings. There are gaps in the tree, so it is pointless to deal with insulation in this situation.

  • Step 3. After the plastic windows are installed, you can begin to insulate the floor. Be prepared for the floor to be higher. Consider this if the ceiling in the room is low.

  • Step 4. Wall cladding is carried out after the installation of windows and floor insulation. The walls on the balcony are considered side walls, except for the main one. At the final stage of insulation, finishing work is carried out. The choice of materials depends on the budget. In the process of finishing, window slopes facing the balcony are installed.

Necessary tools and materials

  • In order to insulate a balcony or loggia, you will need the following tools: a hacksaw or a clerical knife; roulette; level; pencil, marker or any other writing instrument; glue application tool - brush, spatula and so on; other tools. Of the materials you need glue and the insulation itself. In addition, you will need a vapor barrier film and a windproof membrane.

You will also need a frame device. In this case, you will need wooden beams, as well as nails to secure them. You may also need special fasteners - nails with very wide hats. They are used when polystyrene is not fixed with glue.

Warming inside

  • High-quality thermal insulation combined with double-glazed windows turns the balcony into a living space. It is necessary to insulate not only the walls, but also the floor with the ceiling. Insulation materials must be durable, lightweight, safe for humans. Due to atmospheric precipitation and condensate, the walls of the balcony can become damp and moldy, which means that hydro and vapor barriers are needed.

Expanded polystyrenes meet these requirements as much as possible: traditional foam plastic and Penoplex thermal insulation boards. The first is very light, strong in compression, waterproof. Penoplex is an insulation made of extruded polystyrene foam. Its strength and durability exceeds conventional foam, and its shape simplifies installation in the clutch and provides perfect insulation. Sheathing the balcony with slabs can be done both inside and outside.

Insulation of a closed balcony begins with surface preparation. It is necessary to carefully cover the cracks and joints between the floor, walls and parapet with mounting foam without toluene in the composition. Metal structures must be cleaned of rust, coated oil paint and treat with building antiseptic.

Before laying the insulation put windows and doors. Window sills and slopes are mounted on last step works. Balcony glazing depends on the parapet. If this is just a metal crate, it needs to be built up with ceramic (lightweight) bricks or foam blocks. The thickness should not exceed ten centimeters. To protect the foam blocks, at the finishing stage they are covered with corrugated board.

Floor

It is possible to install window structures on a reinforced concrete parapet immediately, using various mounting and sealing compounds. Metallo plastic windows have excellent characteristics, with skillful installation, they reliably protect the balcony and look aesthetically pleasing. When choosing a model, it is worth stopping at hinged frames with double glazing.

Floor

  • In order to insulate the floor, you can resort to two different directions at once: make it warm or constantly heat it up. We are talking about installing a floor heating system, for example, an electric one. Installing a water system on a balcony is very inconvenient and almost impossible, but installing an electric or film system is easy.

photos

It all starts with preparation. A waterproofing film is laid on the floor under the tiles, protecting the floor from moisture from the outside. Next, a crate is arranged. Instead of a log, a beam is used, five centimeters thick. If you do not want to raise the floor much relative to the old coating, it is better to use a beam of low height. A square bar 50 × 50 mm is perfect. The beams are laid every 40-60 cm.

To prevent moisture from entering the insulation from the inside, it is covered with a vapor barrier film. It is laid on top of the beams and attached to them with a construction stapler. For internal fastening, a fastening step of 50 cm is sufficient so as not to create unnecessary holes in the film. Polystyrene must be protected from moisture on all sides. Therefore, it is better to lay the film with an overlap on the walls. All gaps between the beams and the walls should be sealed with the same insulation material or mounting foam.

Walls

  • Many do not insulate the walls, believing that cold does not enter the balcony from the side of the house. In many ways it is, but the work needs to be done. The walls themselves are not sources of cold, but the joints between them and the side walls of the balcony can be. For this reason, all work can only consist in installing penofol, which is vapor-tight and thin. It will protect the walls from icing and the penetration of condensate into the balcony.

  • Ceiling. If a we are talking about a private house, it is best to make a special roof design. It is recommended to make a pitched roof, the slope of which is directed away from the house. The roof is made of rafters and battens. A waterproofing film is attached on top of it. Attached to film roofing material, and waterproofing over a double-sided vapor barrier film, with the absorbent side inward. From below, the rafters are hemmed with a vapor-permeable windproof membrane.

The floor slab, that is, the horizontal part, must have several layers at once: insulation; vapor barrier layer; bearing beams with interior decoration. The device begins with the installation of the frame, namely truss system. Next, a double-sided vapor barrier membrane is attached to it in the indicated way. Then arrange the crate and lay the waterproofing layer. You can use classic roofing material or special PVC films.

  • Warming outside. In order to insulate the balcony from the outside on your own, you will need skills. It is not easy to do quality work yourself, taking into account the characteristics of the building. Finishing the outside means saving up to thirty percent on heating. Remember that outdoor work is fraught with some difficulties: if the balcony is above the second floor, then industrial climbers will have to be involved in the work.

Before you start insulation, get the consent of officials from the Department of Architecture. The appearance of the balcony can spoil the overall picture, but if you complete the decoration in the same style as the entire building, then you can get permission. Insulation from the outside has several advantages:

  • the reinforced concrete slab remains warm, moist air from the room freely passes through it and is released into the atmosphere;
  • saving usable space;
  • you can mount a layer of thermal insulation of any thickness, this will not affect the interior of the balcony in any way.

Materials can be used the same as for interior work. Preference is given to sprayed thermal insulation, as the lightest and most effective. Experts recommend using foam or polystyrene foam. Mineral wool is sensitive to moisture, so its installation requires special care and accuracy.

The independent procedure for warming a balcony is complicated. All stages must be completed at a high level, otherwise the room will not be completely isolated. Glass, panoramic, stained glass balcony - a great solution for small space. Designers advise to connect it with a room for expansion. A glazed balcony connected to the kitchen on the top floor is a luxurious solution.

How to insulate a balcony with your own hands

Balcony insulation is something that almost everyone who has purchased an apartment without repair faces. This process is quite important in terms of maintaining heat in all rooms, since cold air in winter time through the balcony penetrates directly into the living rooms. Warming can be done with different materials, while the technology of work allows you to do it yourself, without calling specialists.

Due to the balcony, you can make the living room larger by connecting these two rooms. In addition, from this room you can make a separate small room, which can act as an office, hookah or just a place to relax. And then the balcony will not perform the function of a pantry, which it mainly performs, but will be involved in a more useful purpose. This solution will be the most practical, and at the same time fashionable. To date, the decision to convert balconies and loggias into a mini-room has become a fairly popular solution. In order for your pastime on the balcony to become comfortable, warm and not cause discomfort, it is worth thinking about high-quality insulation of the balcony. In any case, this room requires high-quality thermal insulation, and in order to understand how to insulate a balcony with your own hands, you need to familiarize yourself with the types of insulation and the technology of work.

Balcony insulation is a process that takes time and costs. This issue needs to be approached responsibly and carefully consider and calculate all the stages. How to insulate a balcony with your own hands, step by step photo will help to understand the main stages of work.

One of the first steps to a warm balcony (loggia) is its glazing with a metal-plastic system, which consists of a two-chamber double-glazed window. But this is only half a step towards the goal, since plastic windows do not give a good result, the temperature in the cold season on such a balcony will be only a couple of degrees higher than on the street.

Which heater to choose?

Very often, if it is necessary to insulate a balcony or loggia, the most difficult question is how to insulate the balcony inside. Before deciding on the choice of insulation for a balcony (loggia), you need to learn about the materials themselves and understand which one is more suitable for a particular room. Further heat savings directly depend on the characteristics of the insulation. After plastic double-glazed windows are installed, all existing slots should be sealed.

An important point: the best option for insulating a balcony is to insulate it from the outside, during cold weather it will save you from condensation and moisture and save.

Now there are many materials that are used to insulate a balcony. The most popular are:

An important point: the choice of balcony insulation will depend on what kind of interior or exterior balcony decoration it will be used for.

Insulation technology for a balcony or loggia from the inside

How to properly insulate a balcony from the inside? This question interests many who started repairs in this room. If you do not have the opportunity to insulate the balcony outside the building, then you should insulate it from the inside. However, it should be borne in mind that due to the insulation of the balcony from the inside, the area is reduced. This point is a significant drawback in using this method of insulation. Another disadvantage of thermal insulation in this way is the formation of condensate, which will be difficult to get rid of after all the work has already been done. The first step will be the preparation and processing of walls, floors and ceilings with a sealant or mounting foam.

Important point: if there are large holes and crevices on the balcony, they consume a large amount of sealant or polyurethane foam. To reduce material consumption, all cracks should be filled with foam.

In the case of using the balcony as a separate room or when it is combined with a living room, double insulation of the balcony and cladding should be done. This means that the selected thermal insulation material should be laid not in one layer, but in two layers.

The main stages of thermal insulation of the balcony from the inside:

  1. To prevent moisture from forming under the thermal insulation layer, and subsequently fungus and mold, it is necessary to lay a vapor barrier layer in front of the insulation layer;
  2. You can use roofing material as a flooring material to create a waterproofing balcony. It is settled on top of each other, the edges are sealed with a gas burner;
  3. Next, you need to fix the material;
  4. After that, the ceiling is finished;
  5. Then the floor is poured and laid.

Insulation of the balcony with expanded polystyrene (styrofoam)

Despite the fact that polystyrene is not a very durable material, it is the most common. Foam plastic is produced in slabs, the thickness of which is from five to fifteen centimeters. To insulate a balcony, you will need only 5-10 plates. Polyfoam is not afraid of moisture, all its properties are preserved.

How to insulate a balcony in a panel house using foam:

  • the surface of the balcony is covered with a primer layer, only after its waterproofing has been carried out;
  • using special glue, we fix the plates on the surface;
  • in order to fix the plate more firmly, we perform another fastening with special plastic dowels, they are also called umbrellas;
  • the vapor barrier is fixed at the top. At the same time, when insulating from the inside, vapor barrier is an optional step;
  • then, with the help of an adhesive solution, a reinforcing mesh is glued.

Putty, plaster, paint or some other finish is applied over the last layer, depending on the preferences and desires of the owners.

How to insulate the floor on the balcony

This process is much easier. The technology of work is as follows:

  • it is necessary to clean the floor from debris and dust;
  • then lay a layer of foil and penofol on the floor;
  • Then the crate is fixed;
  • layers of insulation are laid in the gaps, and the joints are blown with sealant;
  • further installation of parquet, linoleum, laminate is carried out.

An important point: it should be noted that the floor will be fifteen centimeters higher.

Balcony insulation from the outside

Performing work on the insulation of the balcony from the outside on your own, without calling a specialized team, can only be done when the apartment is located on the lower floors: first or second. The main advantage can be called that with such insulation, the usable area is preserved. The downside is the high cost, since all work will be performed by specialist climbers.

An important point: in the event that it is not possible to independently fix the heat-insulating material, you should not risk your health and life by hanging or climbing over the fence.

If it was decided to independently insulate the balcony from the outside, then it is necessary, first of all, to purchase or rent not only materials for insulation, but also tools for mounting on a hill: scaffolding, ladders, platforms.

The main stages of the work:

  1. Choosing the right thermal insulation material. What can be insulated:
  • Styrofoam;
  • mineral wool;
  • expanded polystyrene;
  • sandwich panels;
  1. Balcony glazing. Do not spare money on the purchase of high-quality double-glazed windows;
  2. Plane preparation. The surface is treated with a soil solution after the stage of removing pollution and sealing seams and cracks has been completed;
  3. Profile fastening. They are installed after the walls have completely dried after the primer. Styrofoam will be installed on the profiles and fixed with dowels;
  4. Styrofoam bonding. On the entire section of the sheet, walls and joints, glue is applied in a thick layer;
  5. Foam fixings. After two days, when the glue is completely dry, we fix the surface with dowels;
  6. Treating the wall with a primer and applying plaster.

Work should be done from the bottom up, in a checkerboard pattern. It requires special training and skills. It is recommended to carry out such work only in the warm season, when wind and precipitation cannot interfere with work.

How to insulate a balcony from the inside with your own hands video

The vast majority of modern apartments in panel houses have a layout that provides for a loggia. Unfortunately, many people use this place only for drying clothes and storing old unnecessary things. But it is precisely due to the loggia that you can significantly expand the space of your home on your own by creating an additional room or expanding an adjacent one.

In order to all year round it was comfortable and cozy to be in the loggia, it needs to be insulated. Not everyone knows how to do it on their own and what stages the work should be divided into. Let's take a closer look at the issue of proper insulation of the loggia in a panel house with our own hands.

Where to begin? Stages of work

The whole process of warming with your own hands should be divided into several main stages. Such as:

  • preparatory work;
  • balcony glazing;
  • choice suitable material for warming;
  • ceiling lining;
  • flooring and wall coverings.

It should be noted that before starting work on the insulation or redevelopment of your own loggia, it is imperative to coordinate all the necessary documentation with the relevant service.

Preparatory work

Preparatory work is, so to speak, cleaning and cleaning the loggia. That is, it is necessary:

  • remove all old trim in the loggia, as well as dismantle all old window frames. Also, if there is any wood coating on the floor, then it must also be removed;
  • clean the walls, ceiling, and floor from dust. If possible, you can use a construction vacuum cleaner;
  • restore all cracks, chips, and places of destruction formed during the operation, using cement mortar.

It should be noted that without fail, before performing any work on the insulation of the balcony with your own hands, you should get rid of all structural defects, especially those in which reinforcing bars are visible.

If this is not done, then in the future, corrosion will develop under the layer of the newly laid insulation, which will lead to the destruction of the base of your loggia.

The final stage of preparation is the treatment of all surfaces of the loggia, which will subsequently be insulated, with a specialized antiseptic substance.

It is he who will prevent the process of formation and development of fungus and mold under a layer of insulation.

Installation of loggia windows

The selection of balcony glazing should be approached with all responsibility, because the degree of thermal insulation of your loggia will depend on the selected windows. Currently, the most optimal, attractive and economical option for glazing are windows with two-chamber glazing, made of metal-plastic and having a five-six-chamber profile.

Yes, of course, single-chamber glazing can also be used. But then it is important that each of the glasses has a specialized energy-saving coating.

The second glazing option is the installation of aluminum windows. The main feature is the presence of a thermal break, which allows you to keep and keep warm in the loggia during the cold season.

The third most environmentally friendly, but also the most expensive option is to install wooden window frames.

Their main feature is that such windows perfectly combine the characteristics of the two above types.

How to choose the right material for insulation?

The next, and also one of the most important stages, is the selection of material suitable for do-it-yourself loggia insulation. It should immediately be said that on the modern market there is simply a huge variety of materials intended for insulation. The laying technology of each of the varieties is similar due to the similarity of the structure of the material and its shape.

In the modern market, the most common materials for insulation are:

  • Styrofoam;
  • mineral wool;
  • penoplex.

During the selection, you should pay attention to such characteristics as thermal conductivity, ease of installation and installation, cost, as well as the duration of the service life.

Of the three materials listed above, the leader in most characteristics is penoplex. Its only drawback is only the increased cost.

If your financial situation is too limited, then you can easily pick up other material, for example, foam.

Performing ceiling insulation

All work on the implementation of the insulation of the loggia in a panel house must begin with the work of the insulation of the ceiling. Do not forget that the sheathing of the ceiling surface is a more time-consuming task than it seems at first. Consider how to properly insulate the ceiling of the loggia.

First of all, on the ceiling previously cleaned and treated with an antiseptic agent, foil insulation material should be glued. After that, you need to build a frame for your future ceiling. It is best to carry out this kind of construction either from wooden slats or from a metal profile. Next, electrical cables are laid to provide the possibility of further installation. lighting fixtures. The final stage is the installation of finishing material.

For high-quality fastening of the insulation, you can use the following adhesives:

  • PVA glue;
  • tile adhesive;
  • construction foam.

It is worth noting that, if desired, you can not use any of the above adhesives at all, and use ordinary self-tapping screws to fix the insulation.

Floor and wall sheathing

The most ambitious stage of work is the decoration of the walls. It all starts with installation wooden frame. Also, if necessary, support will have to be placed under the frame.

Upon completion of the installation of the wooden frame between its bars, you need to stick plates or sheets of the previously selected insulation material. At the end, a vapor barrier film should be attached to the frame, which can protect the insulation material from excessive moisture.

Let's move on to floor insulation. The whole complex of works begins with the laying of a waterproofing material, since the balcony was previously glazed, then an ordinary polyethylene film can easily cope with this task.

The next step is to install wooden lag, which with the help of a level must be aligned in a horizontal plane. After installation, you should start laying insulation materials. Do not forget that the laying should be done tightly so that no gaps form.

The final step in the insulation of a balcony in a panel house is the laying of a vapor barrier film and the installation of a floor covering.

Summing up

The process of warming a loggia in a panel house is not too complicated, but it includes many processes, each of which is important in its own way. But be sure that, following all the above tips and rules, you can easily cope with the insulation of your balcony.

Not so long ago, the apartment balcony was only an addition to the apartment itself, they went out on it to get some air, or to hang clothes to dry. The balconies were not glazed, so they could not be used for anything else. After the balconies began to be glazed, and began to be used as a pantry, all unnecessary things in the house were stored here, gradually cluttering it up. Nowadays, the design of the balcony is approached from a more practical point of view. The balcony is a continuation of the apartment, they make a full-fledged living space out of it, turning it into a recreation area, an office and even a nursery. This result is achieved if the balcony is properly insulated.

The most effective external insulation is an external multi-layer enclosing structure that protects the room from condensate, steam, mold and dampness, and the temperature difference junction occurs outside the room. This type of insulation requires certain skills, and in some cases permission.

There are 5 more options for materials with which you can insulate the balcony:

  1. Styrofoam. The most affordable and economical insulation of our time. Due to its lightness, the material is easy to install and cheaper than mineral wool.
  2. Mineral wool. Highly effective material. Harmless and made from natural material natural origin. The low cost of mineral wool insulation allows you to inexpensively and independently use it for wall, ceiling and floor insulation.
  3. Styrofoam(insulation foam). The material has the largest number good properties than mineral wool or polystyrene. It is protected from moisture, fits without the construction of a lattice, as it is quite rigid. It has a smaller thickness, which favorably affects the arrangement of a small area.
  4. foil foamed polyethylene. Lightweight material with a cellular structure formed on the inside of the foil layer.

The latter option has a small thickness and cost, but differs in that it provides excellent thermal insulation and has high sound insulation, as well as being waterproof. Lining is also used, but only in a well-heated room. Otherwise, it is necessary to install a base insulation.

Scheme: how to insulate a balcony in a panel house yourself

In almost every panel house modern apartment there is a balcony or loggia. And in order for the room to function as expected, the loggia must be insulated, and you can do it yourself.

Many use the loggia for domestic purposes, such as:

  • Storage of things;
  • Drying clothes;
  • Due to the loggia, they increase the premises of their apartment;
  • They make an additional room or expand the adjacent one.

To implement all of the above ideas, foam insulation is necessary. Special waterproofing compound cement base, by treating the surface of the walls and ceiling, a barrier is created so that moisture does not penetrate through the balcony partitions. In this case, special polyethylene is used, which keeps the insulation from moisture so that mold and fungus do not develop after the formation of condensate and accumulation of water under the finish coating.

Styrofoam is quite airy, as it consists of 85% air, it creates good sound insulation and thermal insulation.

Using a metal corner and “umbrellas”, the plates are attached to the ceiling of the balcony, and with the help of a dowel drill, wooden planks are attached to the walls at a distance of 50 cm, forming a crate. To create a solid coating when insulating the floor, it is necessary to proceed according to the same scheme, only wooden slats you need to take a much larger thickness. In the cells formed by the crate, sheets of insulation cut out of the desired size are laid, which are attached to the surface with an adhesive composition.

Modern balcony insulation technology

The balcony strengthening technology consists of a complex repair work, which are aimed at creating special structures that provide comfort and warmth in the room in which the repair takes place.

Balcony glazing and insulation are important. If the glazing of the balcony has not yet happened, then a huge number of window installation companies will help to cope with this task. This is the most important point in the insulation of the balcony; without it, full-fledged insulation will not work.

And to solve the problem and start to insulate cold balcony in a new building, for example, it is worth using mineral wool. A waterproofing of the balcony wall is created due to the fact that the mineral wool is afraid of moisture and loses its heat-insulating properties.

To prevent the penetration of moisture through a balcony partition or wall, you must follow the rules, sequence and installation procedure.

The main coating is created from waterproofed building materials. For this, any foil-based material, the so-called special polyethylene, is used. After that, the absence of cracks is checked, if they are found, it is possible, starting not from the inside, but from the edges, to close up with mounting foam.

  1. From the bars to build a wooden crate. You can use wooden slats measuring 400 x 500 mm.
  2. Finishing decorative panels made of plastic or wood are attached to these rails.
  3. The installation of mineral wool must be started after fixing the crate with a special cement-based adhesive.

If the base where the insulation is attached is wooden, it is possible to use a construction stapler. To fix the space between the crates, a mineral wool roll is taken, cut into pieces of the required size and fixed with glue. Floor, walls are insulated in the same way.

We carry out the correct insulation of the balcony

On a pre-prepared floor, it is necessary to make markings for the construction of the crate. The pitch of the crate must exceed the width of the insulation sheets by at least 10 mm. According to this marking, the slats are laid, the extreme parts are laid indented from the walls by 5-10 cm. It is necessary to fasten them with self-tapping screws.

Insulation sheets are laid between the rails, which are glued to the floor with liquid nails or glue.

A layer of vapor barrier is mounted on top of the insulation. This is either PET film or foil. After all, sheets of plywood or chipboard are fixed to the rails using self-tapping screws. Then everything can be poured with cement, where you can install a warm floor, since no coating will provide warmth like this type of insulation. This is completed by laying the top coat of your choice.

Proper insulation of the balcony implies the following:

  • External insulation;
  • Glazing;
  • Wall insulation;
  • floor insulation;
  • Ceiling insulation;
  • Finishing the room.

The insulation is mounted on a pre-treated with an additional waterproofing compound and a cleaned, leveled surface. Cement mortar should cover the junction of the plates and polystyrene.

We figure out how to properly insulate the balcony from the inside

It is necessary to carry out preparatory work. Every surface, whether it be the floor, walls or ceiling, must be thoroughly cleaned of small and large debris. It is necessary to dismantle the old floor covering and remove all cabinets, shelves, fixtures, etc.

When chips and cracks are found on balcony slabs, it is necessary to remove them, and then fill all the cracks and holes with cement mortar. If the surface is uneven and obstructs correct installation insulation, then it is necessary to carry out finishing plastering of surfaces. Ready subfloor and walls can be used for insulation work.

Foil foamed polyethylene is mounted as follows:

  1. A layer of FVP is laid on the surface of the wall.
  2. A crate is built on top of it, foam plastic is placed in the cells, a layer of foamed polyethylene is placed on top.
  3. Finish coating.

On the walls it is necessary to mark the location of the rails, and then attach them. Next, holes for dowels are drilled and mounting foam is applied to the surface with wave-like movements. Styrofoam sheets are attached using plastic mushroom dowels. All cracks that have formed must be filled with mounting foam and glued with mounting tape. A waterproofing layer is laid. The resulting seams are sealed with foil tape.

Step-by-step instructions: how to insulate a balcony from the inside with your own hands

Marking is carried out, suspensions are installed along it, supporting the guides. Hangers are installed, in the role of which a galvanized profile or timber can be used, they are necessary for fixing the guides.

In the right places of the insulator (polystyrene or EPS), holes are cut for suspensions. With the help of mounting foam, the insulation boards are fixed. Further, everything is lined with finishing material.

It is easy to insulate a balcony using materials that are convenient and practical. If you follow the exact instructions, then there should be no problems with insulation. Simply, you need to show diligence and confidence in own forces, then everything will definitely work out!

Do-it-yourself balcony insulation ideas: step by step instructions (photo examples)

Many owners of apartments with loggias are wondering if it is possible to make a loggia a full-fledged living room?

Of course you can. And it's not difficult. Let's talk about it in this article.

Components of heat

Heat on the balcony is guaranteed by several components:

  1. glazing (choose reliable materials, good frames, fittings and double-glazed windows);
  2. thermal insulation (especially since the parapet gives off valuable heat unacceptably);
  3. finishing coating (rough coating will not add beauty to the balcony);
  4. heating (necessary to maintain the climate on the residential balcony).

Let's consider each component in more detail in order to evaluate the scope of work.

Glazing

The composition of the glazing includes several elements: frames, fittings and double-glazed windows.

1) Frames. Now on the market you can find many different types of frames, not only externally, but also in price and strength.

The most commonly used profiles are made of metal-plastic (common "plastic windows"), frames made of aluminum and frames made of pressed wood. With a small budget, choose metal-plastic profiles.

These frames are quite rigid, as they are equipped with a galvanized steel profile, but at the same time they retain their appearance thanks to the PVC coating. Frames made of wood and aluminum are much more expensive than the first option.

With regards to the frame structure, it is better to choose multi-chamber profiles with a thermal break. They will keep the heat on the balcony. But when choosing a manufacturer, you should not be deceived. Sometimes frames from very well-known manufacturers, despite good performance, have a rather short service life.

But with regards to fittings, here, on the contrary, it is necessary to choose high-quality products from well-known manufacturers, since the preservation of the microclimate on the balcony depends on it, especially in winter.

Therefore, it is important that the fittings last as long as possible.

There are several manufacturers to choose from:

  • - Roto (Germany) - a company with excellent quality products;
  • - Siegenia (Germany) - fittings only and metal, which guarantees a long service life;
  • - Maco (Austria) is another company that guarantees high quality.

There are other well-known brands, but these three manufacturers guarantee long-term use.

3) Double-glazed windows. When choosing them, you need to consider several factors:

  • - climate in the region (the colder, the more requirements when choosing);
  • - the location of the window relative to the roads (if there is a noisy street or road outside the window, then pay attention to good sound insulation).

Therefore, there are several options for double-glazed windows:

- Single-chamber double-glazed windows with energy saving glass. Suitable for temperate climates. Equipped with a special reflective coating, which in the cold season reflects heat inside the apartment, and in summer protects from heating under the sun. Reduces heat loss from the balcony by 40%.

- Two-chamber(and more) double-glazed windows give minimal heat loss due to convection. Suitable for northern and eastern regions.

- Double-glazed windows with a combination glasses of wound thickness give excellent sound insulation.

Almost all firms have a turnkey installation service. But you can always save money and install windows yourself. Installation instructions can be found on construction sites.

If you are thinking about warming the balcony, then keep in mind that glazing is not the main thing. The main thing is the insulation of the parapet. But there are separate articles about this.

thermal insulation

You should think about it after installing windows. Walls, floor, ceiling and parapet should be insulated.

A great combination would be mineral wool, moisture-proof membrane and protective and decorative coating. And don't forget the crate. In its quality, use a galvanized metal profile.

Also keep in mind that you will insulate the balcony from the inside, the humidity is low here, and strong wind no.

Thermal insulation should be thin, as there is a need to save usable space. Therefore, the choice of material should be based on these criteria.

crate

Most often used to install the crate wooden beam. Its thickness should be equal to the thickness of the insulation, that is, approximately 4 * 4 cm (in cold regions, the insulation should be at least 5 cm).

The beam can be from any tree, with a minimum number of knots. The bars should dry well.

The crate is mounted on the ceiling, walls and parapet every 50 cm using screws with plastic dowels, the length of which should be 4-5 cm more than the thickness of the crate.

The crate is installed in the following sequence:

1) Adjust each block to size and attach to the installation site.

2) Drill holes in the bar with a drill every 40 cm. The drill should go all the way, making marks on the surfaces under the bar.

3) Make holes according to the marks with a puncher.

4) Insert plastic dowels into the holes and tighten the bars with screws so that the hats completely sink into the tree

The crate must be installed not only on all surfaces, but also in the corners, as well as under the windowsill, add horizontal bars along the entire length of the balcony.

insulation

Let's take polystyrene as an example. In this case, the density does not matter, since there are no large loads on the material.

Moreover, the higher the density, the less thermal insulation.

The thickness of the foam should be equal to the thickness of the crate.

The size of the foam sheet is 50 * 100 cm, so a step of 50 cm at the crate will make it possible to make a minimal fit, and a sheet of 100 * 100 cm can be cut in half. You can cut the foam with an ordinary sharp knife. Joints must be foamed or simply filled with small pieces of foam.

Finishing

The best choice for finishing walls and parapets are MDF panels that are mounted directly on the crate.

Styrofoam as a heater will add rigidity to the entire structure, and the panel will not sag under heavy load.

The panels are fastened with self-tapping screws, which are screwed into the crate through the crest of each panel. Self-tapping screws are hidden in the groove of the next panel.

In each row, the first and last panels are fastened using shackle fasteners with screws, which are then hidden under decorative corners glued with glue.

It is better to finish the ceiling with PVC panels, as they are lighter. They are fastened with screws or building brackets. Joints of panels with walls can be finished with either a starting profile or ceiling plinths planted on liquid nails.

For the floor, you can use plywood or OSB with a thickness of 1.5 cm or more, a crate laid on top and pulled with self-tapping screws every 30 cm.
You can choose any decorative finish of the floor according to your taste.

Linoleum glued to glue or liquid nails along the edges will cost the cheapest. You can also use a laminate, under which you should put a thin substrate and foamed polyethylene. Finally, fix the plinth.

Balcony heating

After finishing work with insulation, you should think about heating system on the balcony and how to connect it to the general heating of the apartment.

You should start with the choice of materials. But first you need to take into account that the general heating system in the apartment can be somewhat unpredictable, since it can increase the temperature, water hammer and pressure surges.

Therefore, radiators must have some margin of safety. The best choice would be bimetal radiators, and when limited budget– steel convector. It is better to take stainless corrugated pipes, as they are durable and easy to install without the help of welding.

As for the installation process itself, it is impossible to accurately describe it in stages, since each system is individual. But there are a few common points:

1) To pass the pipes through the wall between the balcony and the room, use a hammer drill 2mm larger than the diameter of the pipe. Drilling should start from the balcony.

2) Install the radiator on the brackets for floor installation. The top of the radiator should also be fixed to the wall so that it does not damage the wiring under side load.

3) The tie-in to the radiator in the room should be done in series, not in parallel.

The optimal connection would look like this:

1) Disable bottom eyeliner from the radiator in the room and bring it to the balcony with a corrugated pipe.

2) Plug the end of the radiator with the supply disconnected using a blind plug.

3) Replace the blank plug on the opposite side of the radiator and connect the balcony heating return line to it.

4) Connect in series heating appliances on the balcony.

Conclusion

There is a lot of work to be done, as you probably already noticed. But it is quite feasible if you have at least a little experience in construction. Therefore, study this process in as much detail as possible and you will succeed.
