Do-it-yourself pleated curtains from wallpaper. How to make roller blinds from wallpaper with your own hands. What you need to make

There are situations when, when decorating windows, you don’t want to spend money on buying new curtains, but save money and show your imagination by creating them on your own from improvised materials. And what could be easier and simpler than paper crafts? What can be done with your own hands from paper, quite uncomplicated and at the same time necessary in an apartment? A little hint - paper blinds or pleated curtains from wallpaper. Despite the apparent simplicity, such decor not only looks beautiful and aesthetically pleasing on the windows, but is also practical: you can create such curtains in just a couple of hours, and they will last more than one season and will cost you completely free, because there are remnants of wallpaper in every home. In addition, windows and walls during their installation are not subject to mechanical damage, because nothing needs to be drilled, nailed and twisted - the curtain is hung on double-sided tape. And to update the interior, it is enough to spend another couple of hours and create new blinds from the remnants of wallpaper of a different color.

Wallpaper curtain - step by step instructions with photos

Homemade paper blinds and curtains can be different types: rolled, Roman. This master class talks about how to make pleated blinds for plastic or wooden windows do it yourself from the remnants of non-woven wallpaper, using very few tools and materials.

Before starting work, we collect the necessary minimum from the following list. We will need:

  1. Wallpaper.
  2. Scissors or utility knife.
  3. Ruler and pencil.
  4. Double-sided tape.
  5. Rope.
  6. Roulette.
  7. Hole punch or awl.

Then we step by step perform the following steps, which are presented in stages and supplemented with a photo for clarity.

Step 1

Using a tape measure, we measure the window frame (if the frame is hinged with a handle, the measurement is made to the base of the handle) or the double-glazed window itself, on which it is planned to install the manufactured blinds.

Measurement of a double-glazed window along the inner edge of the glazing bead.

Step 2

We unfold the roll on a flat surface, measure the desired length and draw a perpendicular line along which we cut. Please note that the length of the wallpaper to be cut, taking into account the folds on the manufactured blinds, should be 25-27% more than the height of the measured window.

Example: during the measurement it turned out 130 cm, therefore, we cut the wallpaper with a length of 162-165 cm

Step 3

The cut canvas along the entire length on both sides is marked with symmetrical to each other, risks for the future corrugation. As a rule, the width of each strip varies between 3-5 cm, but you can not follow this recommendation and make it a little wider. Then we fold the "accordion" along the marked lines as shown in the photographs.

Tip for the lazy: you can not mark the canvas, but simply adjust all subsequent folds to the width of the second fold. The main thing is to make sure that all the folds are the same size, except for the very first one, on which the curtain will be hung. Its width is calculated from the width of the double-sided tape that we use, plus a 1-1.5 cm tolerance.

Step 4

After the "accordion" is assembled, we measure the middle of the width and mark this place across the entire thickness by drawing a line from top to bottom, as shown in the photographs. We draw a line on the side where there is no pattern, on the same wrong side we will make holes with a hole punch. You can “hole” with an awl, but with the help of a hole punch, the holes are more even and aesthetic. Indentation from the edge to the puncture in any case should be 8-10 mm.

Step 5

We pass the guide rope into the prepared holes.

Step 6

We fasten the rope stretched through all the blinds with double-sided tape to the fold, which is planned as the top one. To do this, cut off a strip of tape 8-10 cm long and stick it in the middle of this fold. Then we make a loop on the guide rope and also stick it on top of the adhesive tape as shown in the photo.

After that, already on top of the loop on the same fold, we glue a continuous strip of adhesive tape to the width of the wallpaper (we do not remove the upper protective film from it yet) and proceed to the next step.

Step 7

The next step is to create a "fan" on the bottom edge. To do this, we again cut off a small strip of adhesive tape, less than the width of the strip of the lower fold and about 15-20 cm long. We paste it on one of the sides, considering the hole in it as a separator of the sides of the strip width, as shown in the photo below. Then we remove the protective film from the adhesive tape and bring the ends of the bottom edge together so that we get a “fan”. We press the folds together.

All! Original and beautiful wallpaper blinds created with your own hands and this master class are ready. It remains only to hang them on the window sash.

Step 8

We remove the protective layer from the adhesive tape, hang our pleated blind on one of the window sashes, adjust its length to the desired height and fix it. To fix the required length, we make an easily untied knot at the end of the rope.

You can use additional accessories for clothes: instead of a knot, use a retainer, and install a tip on the end of the guide.

Wallpaper blinds made with your own hands and this step-by-step instruction will look great on both wooden and plastic windows and will fit perfectly into the interior of not only a room, but also a glazed loggia or balcony.

Another one of the possible nice extras in the creation of paper crafts will be their joint production with the kids. Children love any paper craft. Create a comfortable environment for joint creativity and make curtains for the children's room together. But keep in mind that such curtains have the shape of an "accordion" and even when they are lowered to the end, the folds remain on them. Because of this, any drawing looks broken, and images of cartoon characters and princesses so beloved by boys and girls will have to be abandoned. For boys, in this case, pictures with marine motifs or abstract ones are suitable. geometric figures. For girls - prints with flowers, hearts, jewelry. There are many options, the main thing is to approach the creation of blinds for windows from wallpaper with imagination and inspiration.

Paper blinds have a lot of advantages. You can easily make them yourself using simple wallpaper and auxiliary tools. The scope of this type of blinds is great. They can be used to decorate windows in the country house, veranda, balcony, loggia and living rooms. On the windows, paper blinds look beautiful and original, while perfectly coping with the main function - sun protection. This is a great option if it is not possible to purchase ready-made blinds, and for those who prefer handmade.

Blinds owe their appearance to the Indians of the West Indies. The first type of blinds is colonial. It is characterized by the presence of shutters with inclined wooden planks. They reliably protect from the sun and have a special advantage in the form of low cost. In temperate climates, Venetian blinds began to be made in the 18th century. Their design is characterized by the fact that the inner long sides are fixed in the frame with hinges, and the outer ones with a cord, thus making it possible to adjust the inclination of the lamps depending on the weather and season.

Types of blinds differ in design depending on the climatic zone, the material from which they are made.

Types of blinds as they appear:

  • Horizontal;
  • Vertical.

Often the complex mechanism of blinds with separate lamps is subject to breakdown. Even the most expensive curtains are not immune from them. Therefore, the advantage of homemade blinds is the simplicity and reliability of the mechanism.

The most popular types of blinds

Each type of blinds differs in design, materials and different ways adjustments. Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each, you can choose the most convenient and suitable type.

The most popular types:

  1. Vertical blinds- curtains in which strips of material called lamellae are arranged vertically can be rotated at the desired angle. These blinds are adjustable with a cord.
  2. Horizontal blinds- characterized by a system called "ladder". The slats are horizontal. The slats are adjusted using a special drum.
  3. Roller blinds - This is a cloth made of fabric, which is rolled up using a special mechanism.
  4. Pleated blinds- This is a canvas made of fabric folded in the form of an accordion. They are regulated with the help of special cords and threads, at the ends of which clamps are attached.

When choosing a certain type of blinds, you should pay attention to the shape of the windows, the material from which the curtains are made, and the ease of adjustment.

Master class on making blinds from wallpaper

There are many tutorials on this topic. All of them contain almost the same step by step instructions with variations, depending on the type of manufactured blinds.

Step by step:

  1. Measure the width and length of the glass.
  2. 25 percent should be added to the length value, while the width should remain unchanged. The length of the ribbon or cord must be taken with an allowance, taking into account the tying of bows and knots.
  3. From a piece of wallpaper, cut a rectangle of the desired size. If the wallpaper is with a pattern, it is important not to disturb it.
  4. Fold a rectangle of wallpaper with an accordion. The folds should be approximately 3 to 5 cm. When changing the length appearance curtains may deteriorate. The correctness of execution can be checked at the end of the work - the end of one side of the canvas should look like the letter "L". This end will become the bottom of the blinds.
  5. Measure the middle of the canvas, make holes with an awl or a hole punch. From the back of the hole should be secured with tape. Repeat action.
  6. In the resulting gap, you need to thread a tape or cord. Open the blinds to determine the length of the tape. The upper end of the tape should be fixed with a knot.
  7. Make a window mount. Attach double-sided tape to the entire side of the upper end of the canvas. Thus, it is also possible to additionally secure the cord.
  8. Glue less than half a piece of double-sided tape on the bottom strip at the bottom left. It will help in decorating the curtains.
  9. Decorate the bottom with a "peacock tail". Glue together the five lower folds of the fabric. Attach with double sided tape. Bring the cord to the back, cut off the excess.
  10. Put a clamp on the cord. The latch must consist of one opening. The latch should be pulled up, if it is necessary to raise the curtains, close the window - lower the mount along the cord down. At the bottom, the cord can be decorated with a large bead or other decorative element.

This is one version of the blinds from the wallpaper. There are many options. For example, you can make curtains on two cords parallel to each other. The order of work will be similar, with the difference that you will need a double latch.

Prepare all the tools in advance. If you doubt that you can cope alone, call for help. Take all the necessary measurements and start creating original roller blinds that will delight you for at least a year.

Tools and materials

Most likely you will find all the materials at home, and you do not have to go to the store:

  • Wallpaper. You can use leftover wallpaper or buy new ones. The material of the wallpaper is dense, so it is perfect as a sun protection mechanism.
  • Meter ruler, centimeter, pencil - will be needed for measurement.
  • Sharp scissors, stationery knife.
  • An awl to pierce holes. Can be replaced with another sharp object, such as a hole punch.
  • Lace, string, or decorative ribbon if you want to decorate your blinds.
  • Retainer to secure the blinds. An element of clothing, which is often found on the laces of a sweatshirt hood, is suitable as a retainer. In addition, the latch can be replaced with a small clothespin that matches the color of the wallpaper or the overall style of the room.
  • Double sided tape.
  • Glue.

Roller blind size

Once you have collected all necessary fixtures, proceed to measure the window and curtains. Measure the length and width of the glass to which you plan to attach the blinds. The width of the curtain will be the same as that of the window, but the length should be different - additional centimeters are needed for wrinkling. To do this, add a quarter of this number to the obtained value of the glass length. For example, if the length of the window is 1000 mm, then add another 250 mm - this will be the length of your canvas.

Accessories for roller blinds

Properly selected fittings will make the curtain easy to use and create an attractive appearance. As accessories you can choose:

  • Cornice. Act as an interior decoration. Such accessories are expensive, suitable for a living room or bedroom. If you have small windows and want to visually expand the space, then choose cornices 30-40 cm wider than the window. You can also hang a cornice just above the window opening.
  • Runners, hooks. Economical, simple option for the kitchen. You will not have problems with the choice of runners - they are all the same in terms of the method of attachment. You will only have to decide on the appearance.
  • Brackets, chains. The chain mechanism is very convenient to operate and is popular. Brackets - a solid structure on which the shaft is mounted. If the blinds are made of thick wallpaper, then it is better to choose long brackets.
  • Ropes. The rope mechanism is inexpensive and easy to perform: to do this, sew rings to the side panels, pass the threads through them. Attach them to the bottom of the curtain.
  • Weights. They serve as a weighting agent. Such a decorative accessory will allow you to focus on the entire roll structure. All models have a different color, shape, size, style, so you can choose suitable option for your blinds.
  • Additional accessories: handles, decorative strips, other details.

Mechanism types

There are two types of mounting roller blinds: open and closed:

  1. With the open type, the cassette shaft is visible, on which the web is wound. The shaft is attached between two holders. This type of mechanism will allow you to fix the curtains above the window opening and in the opening itself. You can control wallpaper curtains using a spring mechanism or a chain. Double-sided tape can act as a fixative. The disadvantage of this design is that the adhesive layer can melt during the heat. Therefore, it is better to use self-tapping screws or screws. Open type of fastening - a budget option which is available to anyone.
  2. The closed type differs from the first one in the presence of a box that masks the cassette shaft, protects it from dust and dirt, and gives the structure a neat appearance. This system is suitable for plastic, wood and aluminum windows. The system can only be mounted with an inclination of 15°. The closed type of mechanism is more difficult to perform and more expensive than the open type. Installation is carried out by drilling the frame. The control method can be by means of a chain, a spring mechanism or an electric drive. The latter allows you to adjust the degree of illumination remotely using the remote control.

Accessories set

In order to install paper curtains with your own hands, you will need the following components:

  • plastic or metal box, its guide element;
  • plugs for the box;
  • chain, if a manual mechanism is provided;
  • connecting elements for the chain;
  • brackets;
  • a clip that will fix the roller blinds at any distance;
  • adhesive tape(double-sided tape), holders, calipers for attaching the shaft to the ceiling;
  • bracket-clamp, if a spring mechanism is provided.

DIY wallpaper curtains - step by step instructions

If you decide to decorate your apartment with homemade blinds, then the following is described detailed master class how to make roller blinds from wallpaper:

  1. Removal of window measurements. Carefully calculate the parameters of the window using a centimeter. When calculating the height of the curtain, do not forget to add a quarter of the total height of the window.
  2. Preparing and cutting a roll of wallpaper.
    • Free the table from unnecessary items, spread the wallpaper. The edges may curl, so put something heavy on them. Mark the desired canvas markings.
    • After that, it is necessary to mark the canvas for the size of the folds. The optimal width of the stripes is from 3 to 5 cm. To make the stripes even, connect the lines with a ruler and a pencil. There are more hard way production of strips by cutting them.
    • Assemble the curtain into an "accordion" along the lines using the edge of the ruler.
    • Once the accordion is ready, find the middle of the blinds and make a hole with an awl or hole punch. If another model is chosen, then make two holes along the edges of the blinds, stepping back 15 cm.
    • Thread a cord or rope through the hole you made. Melt the ends of the rope in advance. Fasten the lower part of the rope in the latch, leaving a tail of 4-5 cm - there will be a margin to stretch the curtain in length. Extra centimeters can be tied in a knot or bow. Secure the rope to the top fold of the curtain with tape. Glue double-sided tape on the same fold - there will be a mount to the window.
    • To make the design more reliable, you can use a wooden rail. The upper edge of the wallpaper is glued to it, and a cord is threaded through the holes made.
    • If the model has a rope in the middle, then the lower part of the curtains can be fixed in the form of a fan. To do this, pull the rope down, and fasten the lowered edges together with glue, double-sided tape or a decorative clothespin. The result is a nice design.
    • Put on a latch with one opening on the rope. Pull the latch up to raise the shade. To close the window back - lower the mount down the rope.

  1. Edge processing. To make the curtains last as long as possible, reinforce the edges of the wallpaper with self-adhesive tape or tape.
  2. Fixation of the upper edge in the roller mechanism. Roller blinds are fixed with adhesive tape on the frame plastic window. In addition, you can screw in screws or hooks. If you want to fix the blinds on the wall, then use the screws. Below you can hang special magnets that will not allow the bottom edge to hang out.
  3. Mounting the cornice with a curtain in window opening. If there is a cornice in the package, then you need to know a few nuances about its fastening:
    • The distance from the side walls to the eaves may vary depending on the type of construction.
    • If the curtains turned out to be light, then they can be fixed above the window. If you hang weighting elements and the blinds turn out to be voluminous, then it is better to attach the eaves to the wall.
    • Place the cornice so that it does not interfere with the process of opening and closing the window. Fasten it a few centimeters above the window opening.
    • On the wall, mark the places where the holes for the eaves will be drilled. Fasten the short cornice to two brackets. If the cornice is long, then it is better to install an additional bracket in the center.
  4. Fastening decorative weighting elements along the bottom edge of the curtain. It is better to fix the lower edge of the curtain so that it becomes more reliable and does not bend. To do this, glue the cardboard on the wrong side. The end of the rope or the bottom fold can be decorated with a decorative weight.

Pleated blinds look gentle and airy, in addition, they perfectly close the room from the rays of the scorching sun. Vertical blinds made of strips of fabric will help create a fashionable and unusual interior. Craft original curtain can be done in just a couple of hours step by step photo instructions help to make blinds with your own hands from wallpaper, fabric and even thread.

If a roll of wallpaper remains in the house after the repair, try making paper blinds from this wallpaper with your own hands. Such blinds are functional, beautiful, affordable, but require delicate care.

Paper blinds

Paper blinds are easy to manufacture and do not require large financial costs. For homemade version curtains you will need:

  • wallpaper;
  • one or two cords (slightly longer than the height of the window);
  • awl;
  • ruler 50 cm;
  • pencil;
  • scissors.

The width of the wallpaper can be 55 cm or 1 m - depending on the dimensions of the window. For a wide window, you can make a couple of products of 55 cm each.

The most budgetary way to close the window from sunlight - pleated blinds

  1. First, measure the height of the window and add 30 cm to this value. Measure the desired length on the wallpaper and cut it off.
  2. From the inside, draw the wallpaper into identical transverse stripes (2-3 cm wide). Make bends along the lines to make an "accordion".
  3. Now, with an awl, make two holes along the left and right edges of the workpiece, or one in the center. Thread a cord through the holes to adjust the height of the blinds. The lower end of the cord can be decorated with a brush or a large bead, tie a knot at the end of the upper cord.
  4. Attach the top of the paper sheet to the window using double-sided tape.
  5. To get rounded blinds, glue Velcro at the bottom of the product along the edges (on the right and left sides), and then connect both halves. Homemade blinds from wallpaper are ready.

Advice. Perfect for these blinds. paper wallpaper medium density. With vinyl wallpaper more effort will be required, as they are more difficult to bend.

You can even adjust the height with the help of clothespins

For paper blinds, a sheet of thick paper a quarter longer than the window opening is suitable

We sew blinds from fabric

Fabric blinds require more effort and time to manufacture than paper blinds. But they will be more durable and practical. To ensure that the curtain does not shrink after the first wash, the fabric should be washed before cutting.

Pay attention! There are several ways of fastening blinds. The first option - the product is mounted in the window opening directly at the window itself. This option is convenient in the presence of a large window sill. If you sew a curtain on each window sash, it will be possible to ventilate the room even in the lowered position of the blinds. The second method of fastening is outside the window opening, in this case the curtain is sewn 5-10 cm wider than the opening on each side.

Installation options for horizontal blinds

Pin fabric version can Velcro on wooden beam or loops on the finished cornice. A weighting bar is needed so that the product keeps its shape well, and the fabric is evenly distributed over the entire width of the window.

Fabric blinds can be used alone or with curtains. They can be washed, they fit well enough to the window

You can install fabric blinds on any windows - plastic or wooden. Choose a dense or translucent material, depending on how much shading you want to get. A special curtain fabric or linen is ideal - they are durable and unpretentious in operation.

Fabric horizontal blinds

For the manufacture of such curtains, you will need curtain fabric or ribbons - satin or synthetic. Perfect option- a dense fabric that holds its shape well, does not fade, does not turn yellow in the sun, with antibacterial and dirt-repellent impregnation.

Original solution, but not easy to implement

Important! Each lamella should be no wider than 10 cm, otherwise the finished product will look too rough. The width of each plank should be the same. When calculating how much fabric you need, keep in mind that each lamella will need double the width and a 2cm seam allowance.

Step by step procedure

  1. We cut out the slats.
  2. We add each front side inside and sew on three sides.
  3. We twist, we iron.
  4. We process the unstitched edge (top) with braid and fasten it on both sides, retreating a couple of centimeters to the loops.
  5. We lay the finished strips of fabric tightly one to the other on a long braid.
  6. Each strip on top must be basted to the braid and stitched.
  7. We fix the finished product on the eaves.
  8. We tie the threads to the lower loops of each row and thread them into the rest.
  9. We bring both threads in one direction and pass through the ring previously driven into the eaves.
  10. Binds the threads and fastens to the side of the window opening.

Advice! To make the blinds look neater, attach weights to the bottom bar.

Preparatory stage

  • determine the length finished product;
  • calculate the required number and width of lamellas;
  • we buy a guide made of plastic or aluminum with rotating and moving sliders;
  • prepare thin wooden panels;
  • we buy a strong cord, rings and threaded hooks.

Important! When calculating the width of the slats, consider the size of the window opening - the smaller it is, the narrower the strips of fabric should be.

Blinds manufacturing

  1. We cut out the lamellas, not forgetting that the pattern should be twice as wide as the lamellas plus allowances).
  2. Fold the fabric with the right side inward and sew on three sides.
  3. We turn the lamella on the front side, iron it.
  4. We process the fourth side.
  5. Use glue to attach the fillets on top and bottom of each strip.
  6. We fasten a small threaded hook in the center of the upper edge of the panel.
  7. In the middle of each upper panel we make a hole for the cord of the rotary mechanism.
  8. We hang the lamellas on the guides.
  9. We fasten the threaded hooks on both sides at the level of the holes for the cord.
  10. We stretch the cord through all the holes and hooks.
  11. We fix the cord in the holes with thin chains or matches, after lubricating them with glue.
  12. We tie the ends of the cord in the form of a loop hanging down by about 20-30 cm.
  13. From below we fasten the lamellas together with a cord.
  14. To make the blinds moveable, we mount a thin rod on the hinges.

Sewing curtains based on old blinds

Materials: outdated horizontal blinds, fabric of the right size, liquid nails, sewing machine, scissors.

From the old blinds, remove all connection elements, lower limiters and crossbeams. The central threads must be left

  1. Cut out a rectangle for curtains along the base, not forgetting about the seam allowances. On the wrong side, mark up, glue the crossbars on a new fabric.
  2. Double-fold the edges of the fabric, iron them and sew them on the sewing machine.
  3. Pass the warp threads through the holes in the crossbars.
  4. Attach the fabric to the base, for example with liquid nails.
  5. Pass the thread through the holes and secure with a knot. Hide the hanging ends of the threads from the wrong side.

Glue a piece of fabric to the top bar.

Blind exclusive for an original interior

  • Rope lamellas are hung on the cornice vertical blinds. They are not connected by the lower chain.

  • Non-standard solution - blinds from newspaper tubes. Newspaper sheets are twisted into thin tubes with a knitting needle and a screwdriver, painted in desired color, coated with acrylic varnish and dried. At the final stage, the tubes are connected into one canvas with twine and suspended from the eaves.

The curtain of newspaper tubes resembles bamboo blinds

  • You can keep the roller blinds open with a buttoned belt.

Homemade roman blinds

The principle of operation of Roman blinds and sails is very similar: a piece of fabric is raised and lowered with the help of a rope and a special device. However, a Roman blind can be sewn without a special cornice and fixtures. It can be safely used for a room of any style and direction, the main thing is to choose the right fabric.

Pair the roman blind with tulle or draped curtains. With the help of a cord, the fabric is gathered into horizontal folds, it can be fixed at any level.

Roman blinds can be combined with curtains of the same color

Roman without a special cornice

For the manufacture of "Rimki" you will need:

  • dense fabric;
  • wooden block for a cornice (2.5 cm thick, 5 cm wide and equal to the width of the curtain);
  • Velcro;
  • finishing tape;
  • slats;
  • small nails;
  • plastic rings of small diameter (1-2 cm);
  • weighting agent with a diameter of 5 mm or a wooden block;
  • three cords (the length of each is calculated as 2 curtain lengths plus 1 curtain width);
  • fasteners for the cord (hooks).

Advice. Instead of plastic rings, metal nuts of the same diameter can be used. A wire with a diameter of 3-5 mm is suitable as a weighting agent.

Work order:

  1. Measure the window. The width of the product should be 6 cm more than the width of the window (allowances of 3 cm on each side). The length of the canvas is equal to the height of the window plus 12 cm of allowance (2 cm seam along the top edge and double hem of the fabric 5 cm wide along the bottom edge).
  2. Attach the wooden plank-cornice with screws to the window opening. Using a stapler or small nails, attach one piece of Velcro to the plank. The second part of the Velcro tape must be sewn to the top of the panel.

To fix the rod of the eaves, you will need screws with rounded tips

  1. Divide the height of the window by the desired number of folds to get the distance between the folds.

Table for determining the number of folds

  1. Lay the fabric on a table or on the floor, wrong side up. In chalk, mark the fold lines for the folds, the fold lines of the fabric for the weighting agent, and the places where the rings will be sewn.

Advice. If the window is wide, and it will not work to sew a curtain from one panel, sew two pieces of fabric.

  1. Apply a finishing canvas along the fold lines, and then stitch it so that the slats can be laid inside.
  2. Thread the cord through the rings from the bottom up, bring it out through the rings on the upper eaves and through the side hook.
  3. Pull the cords together for a beautiful drape.

The finishing border is sewn from the wrong side at the place of future folds.

Each ring is fixed with several stitches and secured with a knot.

Next to the place where the weighting agent will be inserted, you also need to sew a series of rings.

Advice. In order not to waste time sewing on rings, you can buy a ready-made tape with rings.

Roman blind with mechanism

With the help of a chain-tape mechanism, the canvas is assembled into horizontal folds. If you purchase such a device, you can sew a curtain yourself. This option may be suitable if it is difficult to choose the right color and texture from the entire range of blinds.

For the manufacture of Roman blinds, you need a special mechanism that can be ordered according to individual window sizes.

AT modern world, when everything can be bought in a store, and if you wish, even without leaving your home on the Internet, the hand-made direction is becoming widespread. It consists in the manufacture of various household items with their own hands, from improvised available materials. Such products can not only decorate the room, making it cozy, but also be useful and functional. For work you will need:

remnants of wallpaper;
stationery knife and ruler;
Double-sided tape;
hole punch or awl;
braid or strong thread;
retainer.
For the manufacture of blinds, you can take any remnants of wallpaper; non-woven paper will last longer. You can use wallpaper for painting, especially if you want to put some kind of pattern on them. Colors are selected depending on the preferences of the owners, but it should be borne in mind that White color will give a uniform diffused light. More dark tones will let in less daylight, so they will create an atmosphere of twilight in the room.

Simple harmonica

Blinds can cover only the surface of the glass or partially cover the frame. The dimensions of the piece of wallpaper that will be needed to make the curtains will depend on the selected parameters. After measuring the width and height, the panel is cut out. The width is kept constant, and 20 to 50 percent of the length is added to the height and cut out. This length reserve will be needed to create an accordion; the frequency of kinks and their density in the finished product will depend on the added value.
On the wrong side, you should mark the places of paper kinks, the optimal value of each fold is about 3 cm. If desired, you can make wider or narrow folds, their value will change the thickness of the product, making it more voluminous or flat. Marking must be done on both sides of the cloth, so that it is easier to fold the accordion evenly, avoiding distortions.

Focusing on the marks, you need to carefully fold the panel with an even accordion. When folding, it is necessary to ensure that the folds match in size, and that distortions and protrusions do not form along the edges. For convenience, the upper bend should open outward, and the lower one should form a finished step.

To seal the upper edge, the last step can be glued. The band folded like an accordion can be put under the load or fastened, and left for a while so that the folds are well ironed and used to their position.
You can use the resulting corrugated strip as blinds.

To raise the curtain, opening the window, it is fixed with one clip in the middle or two on the sides of the strip. The wallpaper blinds shown in the photo are in a simple way creating a protective curtain.

peacock tail

To give decorativeness and make the operation of the blinds more convenient, they use other mechanisms that fix the raising and lowering of the curtains. Using a ruler, mark the middle of the strip, this is the place of the future puncture for threading the braid. Using a hole punch or an awl, make a hole in the marked center of the strip.

Punctures should be symmetrical, at the same level, so they must be done in one motion. To make the holes more durable, especially on the lower and upper strips, it is necessary to stick on the wrong side, at the place of punctures, small pieces of ordinary adhesive tape. And then pierce the holes again. The adhesive tape will not allow the paper to tear and this will extend the life of the blinds.
Measure a strong thread or braid along the height of the window, with a small margin. Pass the thread through the holes on the strip and fasten on the upper edge.

For reliable fixation of the thread, it is glued with double-sided tape, which is attached along the entire length of the upper strip. Subsequently, a strip of adhesive tape will serve as a fastening of the blinds to the window opening.

A retainer is put on the bottom edge of the thread. With it, it will be possible to fix the curtains, assembled, at different heights. To weight the thread, you can use a trailer or a large bead attached to its lower edge. Thanks to the limit switch, the thread will not be tangled and bent, it is more convenient to hold on to it when moving the curtain up or down.

If, when unfolded, a smooth lower edge of the blinds is needed to close the window glass completely, then it is left freely falling. To decorate a beautiful decorative semicircle resembling a peacock tail, the bottom strip is glued together. To do this, on it, on both sides of the hole, pieces of double-sided tape are glued and glued together, forming a beautiful fan. For reliable fixation, you can glue the last 3-4 folds, in the middle.

Having moved the blinds to the height of the window opening, so that the curtain completely covers it, the cords are connected and fixed using a bead, end switch or knot. You can come up with any other decorative decoration, holding which will be convenient to move the blinds.
So that the lower edge of the curtain does not lose its even shape, bending and breaking over time, it is necessary to strengthen it. To do this, on the bottom strip from the wrong side, you can glue a piece of cardboard or any other convenient material that is suitable in size. This design will make the lower part of the blinds heavier and make it more durable and reliable.
