How to make a brazier from metal drawings. Types of metal braziers and their optimal sizes. Finished product painting

The brazier is that subject without which any trip on the nature or rest on a summer residence does not do. Fried lovers are not only among meat-eaters, but also vegetarians. But what to do if there was no time to buy a brazier or it was safely forgotten at home. There is always a way out: below is what types of barbecues are and how to make them quickly with your own hands.

Bonfire and branches

The easiest way to fry meat or vegetables is to build a fire and build the necessary structure over it. Depending on the location of the picnic and the availability of handy tools, there are two ways to do it yourself.

If you are in a forest, a park, then you can easily find strong, straight branches, and every motorist has a folding knife in the glove compartment. Twigs are preferably harvested from willow: thin - for skewers and thick - for legs and crossbars.

For the base, they take material with a thickness of more than 2 cm, branches with a diameter of 1 cm or a little less - a skewer.

  • The height of the legs is planned to be about 35-40 cm, see relative to the bred fire. It is also worth understanding that a tree, even fresh and damp, can ignite, so the distance from the hearth to the racks can withstand at least 13-17 cm.
  • A horizontal row is fixed on top of the racks, forming transverse crossbars. You can tie them with threads, tree bark.
  • If there is no possibility of such a connection, then a wedge is used. To do this, a crevice is made in racks of large diameter, where branches of a smaller volume are stuck parallel to the ground and each other. With this option, there is no longer a need to enclose all 4 sides, two main ones are enough.

IMPORTANT! To make the brazier from the branches stand firmly, and the meat is pricked freely, the ends of the branches are sharpened with a penknife, making stakes. Racks are driven into the ground to a depth of at least 4 cm.

  • Skewers are pointed and placed along the long side. Follow. So that the fire does not touch the structure.

beer cans

Being in nature, without a car, it is customary in companies to take alcohol. And there will always be a few already empty beer cans before you start cooking barbecue. Namely, they can serve as pillars for the future barbecue.

Along the perimeter they are pierced with branches pointed in advance, thereby forming a square or rectangle. Improvised skewers are already placed on the latter and fragrant food is being prepared.

Simple brick brazier

A country picnic has its advantages, as it gives more options for building a brazier. A favorite method of especially beginner gardeners is a barbecue made of bricks. It is built as a temporary object or already solid in a permanent place.

1. Quick option

Bricks are stacked in two rows, parallel to each other. As a rule, for optimal height placement of skewers is enough for 4-6 pieces. To ensure safety, many summer residents build an impromptu brazier around the perimeter of the fire on all four sides.

2. Solid

If the previous design seems not at all reliable, then the bricks are planted on the mortar. In this case, there is an opportunity to save material. Since the cement sets quickly, the bricks are already set on top of each other, thereby gaining height in a smaller amount.

IMPORTANT! With a stationary brick building, a sheet of iron is laid below the fire place. This is done in order to prevent burnout of the earth and ensure fire safety.

Aerated concrete blocks

The construction of a brazier from aerated concrete blocks is similar to the construction of bricks. It is also simple and quick to raise the structure in height and cook.

There are craftsmen. Which obkladyvayut blocks construction with a plate. The option is ineffective and difficult to implement.

On a barrel

What summer resident does not have a barrel on the site. It collects water for irrigation, put it under drains, dilute fertilizers and so on. But what if the old iron container is already rusty and not suitable for its intended use? The answer is obvious - make a barbecue.

  • For convenience, the barrel can be cut in half to use a smaller fire, or left the same height for comfortable standing cooking.
  • The future brazier is dug into the ground for greater rigidity, and a tree, plant remains, and so on are poured inside.
  • When everything burns out and a small light remains, they put the skewers and start cooking. The heat goes up, purposefully. Due to the nature of the heating, food cooks faster. Therefore, turn the grill or skewers more often and watch the clock.
  • When a barrel burns out, it is either cut to a strong, unchanged place, or left as it is, but make sure that the flame does not rise above the clearings.

IMPORTANT! Do not throw old clothes, film or other synthetic materials. If you use it to burn trash, then first shake out the chemical ash, pour natural material and only then start frying.

The second option for making a structure from a barrel is to dig a hole commensurate with the dimensions of the container and lower it there.

Thus, a ready-made construct will be obtained, which does not give off heat and does not collapse. Skewers are placed on top in the same way.

Logs, stones

Both in the country house and in the forest there are large logs and no less large stones. A kind of circle is made of stones, thereby limiting the space for fire, and logs are additionally placed on two sides to place skewers on them.

Often faced with a problem: to urgently make a brazier, people do not use the above methods in their pure form. As a rule, there is a mix of what is at hand. So stones are laid over a fire and in the manufacture of structures from branches and other combustible materials. And instead of a live fire, they fit a variant with a stove.

Advantages in contrast to the standard brazier

  1. During the construction, improvised material is used, so you can significantly save the budget, protecting nature.
  2. A simple brazier can be assembled anywhere by a person, even with a zero level of preparedness, but with imagination and skill.
  3. No need to carry extra weight. This is true if you are planning a picnic without a car.
  4. Brazier with my own hands it is always made of optimal, suitable dimensions, so the meat will not burn, but will become juicy and fragrant.

disadvantages

Among the shortcomings, we highlight the fact that even a simple barbecue requires ingenuity and the availability of elementary tools. If a female company got out for a walk, then building a brazier from improvised means can be problematic.

As you can see, making a brazier with your own hands from what is nearby is very simple and fast. This does not require special skills and abilities. But you can always surprise guests original way serving the dish.

Barbecues are on sale today at a wide range. But if you have good instructions, equipment, supplies and, of course, a desire, you can make a brazier with your own hands from metal.

Do-it-yourself metal brazier

Construction types

To begin with, decide on the type of future design, since the brazier happens:

  1. stationary;
  2. collapsible.

Stationary type structures are multifunctional, because by adding some elements, you can additionally get a smokehouse or a grill. Moreover, they are able to really decorate a suburban area.

And here mobile devices compact, making it easy to fit even in the car trunk, which is ideal for outdoor recreation. The design can be folding or collapsible.

What will be required at work?

Despite the fact that the designs are different, the list of everything you need in in general terms the same. Only the amount of consumable material can differ, because if it is planned to manufacture a large-sized stationary product with a roof, then, of course, more material will be required in this case. In a word, prepare for work:

  1. welding;
  2. screwdriver;
  3. grinder with circles to it;
  4. square;
  5. electric drill;
  6. roulette;
  7. electric jigsaw;
  8. a sheet of metal a few millimeters thick, an iron barrel or cylinder;
  9. wheels (required for a collapsible barbecue);
  10. corners measuring 2x2 centimeters;
  11. handle, hinges;
  12. fasteners;
  13. a pipe with a square section of 2x2 centimeters.

Note! There are many varieties of designs, so check out the most popular of them in order to choose the most best option.

Do-it-yourself brazier from a metal barrel

The design described in this paragraph of the article may be without a cover or with it. In the second case, halves of the container are used, in the first - the whole. But regardless of the option chosen, you should first sketch out a drawing of the planned product.

Below is a figure that allows you to understand all the elements and their sizes. If you want, you can improve this design, but the finished drawing will help in the manufacture in any case.

After that, you should prepare the elements from which the brazier will subsequently be assembled.

Note! This should start with the main thing, namely the barrel. You need to cut it.

To do this, use one of two methods:

After that, carefully clean all sections, remove burrs. Next, determine the dimensions of the corners needed to frame the opening. Cut pipes or corners for stands and legs, then prepare fasteners - it is advisable to purchase the latter with a small margin.

Option number 1

The easiest way to build a brazier from 1/2 barrels than to fix the lid on the front wall. For ease of use, start by arranging stands. In this case, pipes will be required, which can have both rectangular and round sections.

Step 1. If you cannot bend the pipe to the dimensions of the barrel, then, having made preliminary calculations, weld a corner from a pair of pipes, and then weld two more pipes to it, connected to the letter "T". Make the second leg in the same way. Connect them together with a jumper, although you can use a metal basket for storing firewood for this if you wish.

Step 2. After that, install 1/2 barrels on these legs and weld it to them. It is advisable to immediately start cleaning the welds so that this do-it-yourself metal barbecue element is left alone.

Step 3. Now start working on the half itself. First, weld a corner to its edges so that the design looks more neat. A kind of shelf has formed, on which you will put the skewers.

Note! If the brazier will also be used as a grill, then fix the racks for the latter as shown in the diagram.

Step 4. If you use the second half of the barrel as a lid, then scald it with a corner. For greater convenience during operation, attach a handle and a holder with fasteners to the lid. You can install it on one or both sides of the structure.

Step 5. Lay a grid on top of the half-barrel so that the structure can also be used as a barbecue. To fix the grid, screw special stands around the edges.

Step 6. Make holes in the walls of the lower half to improve traction.

Option number 2

Here the barrel does not need to be cut into two parts. Instead, cut a pre-marked rectangle out of it. At such a brazier, food that will be cooked on a flame will be reliably protected from the wind thanks to the back wall. In the pictures you see the installation of a barbecue grill.

Note! If you resorted to this option, then no welding of the edges of the barrel is required - they will be cleaned and rounded without it.

Otherwise, the work is carried out in the same way as described above, but the hinges are attached to the lid and the upper part of the structure. The holder for the cover in this model is not required, because, leaning back, it rests against the upper part of the case.

It is also worth noting that this brazier can also be made a part-time smokehouse. For this purpose, attach a chimney to the side. As you know, at the top of all barrels there is a hole with a cork, which you can use just to fix the chimney. But this moment should be planned in advance, before starting to cut the barrel, since the hole described should be located exclusively in the upper part of the body.

If required, arrange shelves on both sides of the barbecue (as described earlier). For this purpose, weld iron brackets to the body, and fix the coating on them (it can be either made of wood or metal).

Note! Barbecues are also built from propane cylinders in a similar way. But remember that they are narrower, therefore, they will require shorter skewers.

If desired, any do-it-yourself barbecue made of metal from those described above can be equipped with wheels for more convenient transportation. Although these structures are mobile only on the territory of the site, since it is very inconvenient to transport them somewhere.

Cylinders and barrels are ideal for making barbecue. And this is due to the unlimited scope for imagination. Would you like to see this for yourself? Then be sure to watch the video below.

We use metal sheets

And if you use the brazier only on the site, without taking it outside, then it is more advisable not to complicate your life, but to resort to simple option making a stationary model. You can only move it around the site, and install it on a hard surface.

Traditionally, first make a drawing. This is quite simple to do, since there are no particularly complex elements in the design. After purchasing everything you need, make blanks for future components, based on a previously drawn up diagram.

As an alternative, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the already prepared scheme and, based on it, draw up your own, adding the necessary elements there that will make operation easier and more convenient.

Step 1. For work, you will need the following:

  1. a sheet of metal a few millimeters thick;
  2. metal corner 1x1 cm for the manufacture of the frame and legs.

Note! If it is planned to install one or two shelves, then they will also require corners.

Step 2. Next, mark the future structural elements on the sheet of metal. If the metal is not too thick (about 2 millimeters), then simply bend it, thereby getting rid of the welding work to connect the body to the bottom. In this case, at the end of the preliminary marking, cut out 4 rectangles - the result will be a cross.

Step 3. The central part of the cross will serve as the bottom of the case, the other four will serve as machines. Bend these walls at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the bottom element.

Step 5. In the lower part of those sides of the box that are larger, make holes so that oxygen enters the coals. But in the upper part of these sides, make cutouts to make it convenient to put the skewers.

Step 5. After that, build a frame from the corners, where you later install the case with the base under the shelves.

Step 6. On top of the frame, you can install a mesh made of steel wire. Remember that it will be convenient to put dishes or a cutting board on such a grid.

Step 7. From the bottom, equip another grid (or a basket - as you like), in which firewood would be stored.

Note! If you want, you can make different patterns on the walls using the same wire.

Step 8 After that, clean all surfaces with a metal brush, then paint with heat-resistant paint - the latter will prevent not only the formation of corrosion, but also burning.

As soon as the paint dries, you can start testing your brainchild - a do-it-yourself brazier made of metal!

Portable (collapsible) brazier on their own

We note right away that such a collapsible option will be useful not only in the house, but even in the apartment. Due to its compactness, it does not take up much space, you can easily place it on a shelf in a closet or pantry. You can use it both for outdoor recreation and, say, in your yard. high-rise building(following all fire safety rules, of course).

Note! When planning further work, take into account the fact that when folded, the structure will look like a suitcase, which will contain everything that may be needed for frying meat.

For example, the standard length of skewers for a hike is 60 centimeters, therefore, the brazier itself can be only 65 centimeters long, and 45 centimeters wide (when unfolded).

The design that you see in the image is quite easy to make on your own. But for work you will need:

  1. steel sheet 3 mm thick;
  2. steel wire, which will be used to form the mesh, as an option - a ready-made mesh;
  3. corners 1x1 centimeter for strengthening the walls and making coasters;
  4. metal rod with a diameter of 0.8 centimeters for the handle;
  5. loops that will connect the halves of the body;
  6. folding legs.

Now, having prepared everything you need, proceed directly to work.

Manufacturing instructions

Step 1. First, make a drawing, which will indicate all the necessary dimensions. This will prevent possible revisions of the product in the future due to inaccuracies.

Step 2. After that, draw future elements on metal sheets, cut them out. These elements should include:

  1. a square measuring 40-x40 centimeters, which will subsequently be cut into two triangles - the latter are designed to rigidly hold the structure;
  2. two walls of the case - approximately 40x63 centimeters;
  3. pieces of a metal corner - four pieces of 63 centimeters, four of 40 centimeters - for coasters and framing.

Step 3. Then proceed to the construction of folding legs, using movable fasteners (such as furniture ones) for this. To do this, cut four strips of metal 10 cm wide, although you can use all the same corners. These strips can be 40-60 centimeters long, although it is worth remembering that the higher the support legs are, the less stable the structure will be.

Note! After preparing everything you need, assembly begins directly. This should be done especially carefully - in this case, your product will not differ in any way from the "shop".

Step 4. First, clean the back and front walls, then scald three sides of each wall with a steel corner.

Step 5. Mark out where the mesh will be laid in the structure, attach stands from the corners in the appropriate places.

Step 7. Attach the support legs to the sides of the product so that they can be moved apart and folded without much difficulty. To easily install the side walls, the brazier in the open position should have an angle of 45 degrees.

Step 8. From above, in the side panels, weld 2 holes for installing handles (curved metal rods). If you want, you can also put a special hook that will prevent the assembled structure from opening.

At the end, assemble the brazier with your own hands from metal, lay the grid and try to make the first barbecue.

Note! To make the design truly multifunctional, you can make a barbecue attachment.

To this end, cut and weld five structural elements. These are special side nozzles, curved at the bottom at a 45-degree angle (you can install them if necessary instead of triangles on the sides). You will also need a grill for installation on top and a pair of frontal paintings of great length. By the way, you can find another interesting manufacturing option from the video below.

Protecting from rust

Any structure made of metal always needs protection against corrosion. Only in this case it will be possible to operate it longer, and external indicators will not deteriorate over time. You can, for example, paint a homemade brazier with paint. But remember that you can only use heat-resistant paint, which can be purchased at any automotive store in the form of an aerosol can (it is used to paint vehicle mufflers).

You can also resort to alternative- that is, a change in the structure of the metal. There is such a process (burning), during which the surface of the metal is covered with a heat-resistant black film. To burn the brazier yourself, first clean it of dirt and grease, then place the product in a solution of caustic soda (500 grams per ten liters of water) and keep it there for one and a half to two hours at a temperature of 140 C.

As a conclusion

As you can see, the manufacture of a brazier is not a super complicated procedure - if there is necessary equipment and minimal experience with it, you can handle it in about a day or two, but at the same time save a significant amount! And if you approach the work responsibly, do it with high quality, then your offspring will practically not differ in any way from their “store” counterparts.

Actually, that's all. Good luck with your work!

It is difficult to imagine culinary processes in the open air without barbecues. These devices allow you to create on your own suburban area incredible delicious food. There are many types of grills on the market. However, often the owners independently construct such devices. How to cook a brazier? Often just different designs are obtained. Their formats are determined by the owner's goals, financial capabilities, site parameters and the working skills of the creators.

Design selection criteria

Very often, in the matter of choosing a material for a barbecue, preference is given to metal. It is characterized by durability, resistance to serious temperature conditions and other factors. Some components of the structure are fastened different ways. But the welding method is the most reliable and optimal in this matter.

Today, cooking the barbecue correctly is the starting point. Many owners want to create not some ordinary designs. And so equip them additional elements. These include:

  • Firebox in which you can heat up food.
  • Special compartments for drying firewood.
  • Shelves for various culinary additives and spices.

If you set out to cook a brazier with your own hands, then before the creative process itself, study photographs and diagrams of various modifications. They are easy to find on the web. So you will choose a specific model for yourself. It is useful to watch video tutorials. In them, the masters describe in detail and practically the welding of the structure. This helps to be aware of the potential complexities of the upcoming case in advance.

In practice, the creation of a metal barbecue is not so difficult.

Just ask yourself the following questions:

  • Will the structure be disassembled or will it be monolithic?
  • Dimensions. How many people is the device intended for? This aspect affects its parameters and the number of skewers that can be used in it at one time.
  • What is the service life of the product? These criteria determine the choice of a particular metal.
  • What will be the appearance of the structure? To do this, you should study a lot of photos and options with different designs. You can choose the style and color that suits you. It is optimal if you find video material on the construction of this particular model.

Dimension Calculation

The parameters of the planned brazier are the key criteria. From them, the convenience of using the unit for its intended purpose is determined.

If it will be used by a family with a standard number of people (3-4), then a model of 60 x 35 cm will do.

For a team with a large number of people, a larger structure must be used.

Photos of standard and non-standard versions are easily found on the web. You may come across such pictures in which the traditional version is supplemented by many components and devices. They expand its functional range and decorate its appearance. It is not difficult to create any metal modification. And the welding process can be carried out on your own.

For example, you can act according to the following drawing:

There are plenty of similar and other drawings on the Internet. You can build your work around them. It is important to solve the dilemma with the number of skewers that are simultaneously on the welded grill.

An equally important aspect is the depth of the device. Its approximate value is 15 cm. In this situation, the necessary clearance for cooking will remain between the product and the coals. The height of the brazier should be as convenient as possible for the cook.

Selection of materials

Self-creation of a metal structure is possible using different materials. The main thing here is not to make a mistake with the metal. The selected option should guarantee the maximum operational period of the future design. Basically, one rule works here: the smaller the thickness of the metal, the shorter the life of the unit. For this reason, a material with a good density should be used. Never use sheets with a maximum density of 1 mm. They make a rather weak structure.

Another drawing example:

To obtain a high quality material with a long working period, the preparation of such materials and tools is required:

  • metal sheets. Their parameters and thickness are optimal.
  • metal corners. They form the legs for the apparatus.
  • Welding technology for joining metal components.
  • Electric drills.
  • Bulgarians. She must have CDs cutting metals.
  • Set of electrodes.
  • Measuring tools: tape measure, level, regular ruler.

Additionally, drawings are being prepared. They can be borrowed from the Internet, you can do it yourself.

The technological process of creating a brazier by welding

Here it is important to decide what kind of design you are planning - stationary or portable. The first can be installed in a specific place and on long time. The second - can be transported without problems.

Usually the use of welding technology is necessary for the production of a stationary version. Before the workflow itself, be sure to watch the video tutorials and decide how you will decorate the future device.

The algorithm of work here is as follows:

Stage 1. Initially create layouts. Lines are required on metal sheets. A reference point in this process is a pre-made or copied drawing.

Stage 2. From the working material, you need to cut out all the main components of the intended design. Work is proceeding in accordance with the existing markup on the sheets. There should be a bottom. This is the largest component. It is formed by four lateral parts. Two of them are short and the other two are long.

Stage 3. Be sure to make holes in the long side components. They can simply be drilled in one line. They guarantee the penetration of oxygen into the furnace to the coals. And then your apparatus will retain the heat required for a normal workflow. The holes should be spaced about 5.5 cm apart from each other. See that there is at least 2.5 cm left to the edge.

Stage 4. All side components (both long and short) are connected to each other by welding. A rectangular structure without a bottom and a lid should form. Incisions are made on the upper extreme sides of the long walls. In this work, a grinder should be used. This tool should have a special nozzle for cutting and processing metal products. At the same time, it is recommended to make cuts on two side parts. They must match perfectly. Combination of incisions will follow. If you do everything correctly, in the future you will have skewers here without any difficulties.

Stage 5. All side components, already welded, must be welded to the bottom of the planned structure. Good welding skills and the ability to work with welding equipment are extremely important here. The task is this: all welding joints must be of the highest quality. So you get a box. If you have a material with a thickness of 2-3 mm, it is better to work with inverter welding equipment. To create a box, four seams on each side are enough. If the density of the material is 1.5 - 2 mm, the bottom and walls bend in a certain way. This must not be allowed. Therefore, these components are reinforced with a profile pipe or angle.

Stage 6. Legs are welded to this box. They are easy to prepare for work. Metal corners will help with this task. The legs can be mounted along the corners of the created structure, or at the end of the bottom.

The lower ends are slightly pointed. This guarantees the brazier reliable stability.

The outcome of the work stages carried out is the creation of a high-quality and durable unit

If you have accumulated a lot of metal, but it is represented by small pieces, then you need to cut the correct blanks. Then weld them. In this situation, you need to weld more accurately and efficiently. And the length of the seams is longer.

An example of a homemade barbecue:

Corner frame

This version of the frame is considered more durable. There is no bending of the metal. The work algorithm is as follows:

1. Corners are taken. Their frame is cooked. Example:

Welding can be carried out from profile pipes:

2. The bottom is attached to this frame.

3. The walls are welded.

advanced version

A metal barbecue, created independently, can always be improved and supplemented with useful components. One of these is the canopy. Example:

The countertop and the frame for placing skewers will not interfere in this design. The top of the brazier can be strengthened profile pipe. You need to weld so that there is room for possible additions.

You can optionally weld a brazier of this format. There are other design variations as well.

Other design variations

barrel based

To create the necessary design, a metal barrel will also fit. With its application, the work is performed quite dynamically and simply. Since the barrels usually have impressive parameters, the barbecues from them are large and massive. They provide cooking for a large group.

If you use such a barrel, then be sure to make a cover for the intended apparatus. During its operation, it must be closed with a lid. This ensures uniform and excellent roasting of the food being cooked.

Balloon based

There are two ways to work here. One by one, a more complex structure is created. The second one is more simple.

In any case, you must first secure the cylinder. He's got a faucet. A water hose is connected. Water flows under gentle pressure. The balloon is filled completely. After that, metal cutting is allowed.

Usually a 50-liter cylinder is used, with an outer diameter of 96 cm. This is the optimal data for creating six large portions of barbecue.

By longitudinal seam marking is done. All distances are calculated from it.

A distance of 24 cm is calculated from the seam on both sides. Lines are drawn. The balloon is in a horizontal position. On one line, markings for skewers are created. From the circular seams on the right and left sides, the indent is 3 cm. Then the marks are placed constantly after 8 cm. Total - 6 designations. Holes are drilled in them. The approximate diameter of each is 1 cm.

From the markup line, 10 cm should be set aside. Here is the end of the apparatus cover. Then she unpacks herself. This is the distance between the start line and the last line. Between them, with an indent from the circular seams - 3 cm - lines are indicated.

Then the hinges are immediately welded. We need an assistant here.

Bulgarian cut off the door. Water is pouring out of the bottle.

The lid must not fall back. Therefore, two corners 3-4 cm wide are welded between the loops along the cut line. They should be on the right and left sides of the cover.

The degree of bending of the corners determines the distance of opening the lid.

The bottom rim is removed. Mounted to the lid wooden handle.

To prevent the cover from falling inward, you need to weld a metal strip to the cutout. Its density: 1-3 mm, width - 3 cm.

According to the designations, holes for skewers are made. Drill is used. On the opposite side, the same holes are also arranged at the same positions.

The cylinder turns upside down. From the seam on both sides there is an indent of 10 cm. From such lines there is another indent of 10-12 cm, lines are drawn. Two stripes formed from the seam in the middle. Their width is 10 cm. Slots for air are made in them at a distance of 5 cm. Instead of slots, you can drill many holes.

The crane is removed. The hole is sealed.

Legs are mounted.

A simpler version is created like this: the balloon is sawn lengthwise into two equal parts. A lot of air holes are drilled along the edges. The legs are attached.

Create portable versions

They are excellent rescuers in nature. You can buy them or make your own.

Their types: prefabricated and folding. The format of the second is a suitcase. Example:

Here the fasteners are the door hinges. The legs are thin.

Another version:

Here the legs are folded at the bottom. Other components are stacked in sequence. The side parts are connected by cuts.

Collapsible versions are formed by components that do not have fasteners. Assembly takes place on site. She can be talkative. Maybe - with grooves and cuts. Such products are made without welding. Work is done with a grinder (she has a diamond blade) or a metal saw.

Creation:

  1. A cardboard layout is made in advance. It fits perfectly to the size of the product.
  2. Patterns are transferred to metal.

More versions:

Here are the legs from the corners. The legs have slightly bent cuts. Under them in the sidewalls there are holes. When assembling, the side parts are strung on cuts.

The bottom has no fixation. The lower side of the sidewalls is bent inward by 4 mm. The sides are attached to the legs. A border is formed around the perimeter. The bottom is laid on it.

Painting issues and outcome

For a metal apparatus, it is better to use heat- and heat-resistant paints.

  • CERTA (Certa). Handles loads up to +900°С,
  • Rust-oleum. Potential - up to +1093°C, Color options: matte, white, gray, black.
  • "KO-8101". Potential - +650°C, 12 color options are provided by default.
  • KO-8111 Thermal has anti-corrosion characteristics. Overpowers the impact of +600°C.

How much does a product like this cost? consumables and welding? Of course, cheaper than ready-made barbecues in a private workshop or from a manufacturer.

It is difficult to find someone who does not like grilled meat and vegetables. That is why the brazier occupies a leading position among other attributes necessary for outdoor recreation. Modern devices have a variety of designs: they can be either portable metal or stationary made of brick or metal, with a canopy, lid, etc. It all depends on the desire and imagination of the owner. And it is not at all necessary to buy a brazier, because you can make metal grill with your own hands.

The advantages of a metal grill

The simplest, but at the same time very practical barbecue model

The pros and cons of metal barbecues vary depending on which models to consider:

  • thin-walled they are mobile, compact and affordable. They are made by stamping parts from the thinnest sheets of metal, which has a beneficial effect on their weight. Most often produce folding versions. However, they are often used not only as a container for coals from a separate fire, but also for lighting and kindling the latter. Therefore, the life of such a brazier can be significantly reduced. The walls quickly burn out, deform and become unusable. In addition, they do not retain heat well, which leads to an unreasonably high consumption of coal;
  • thick-walled durable and roomy. Such braziers can serve for years. True, they are not so portable, as they are made of thick sheets of metal, and therefore have a rather large weight.

Varieties

Before proceeding with the manufacture of the brazier, it is necessary to determine its type.

Portable (folding/collapsible)

Compact collapsible brazier can be taken with you even on a hike

Portable braziers are easy to assemble, have a simple and compact design, designed for outdoor picnics. They are of two types: folding and collapsible.

  1. In a portable collapsible brazier, the elements are connected during the assembly process using bolts, pins and other connecting elements. Such models are mobile and compact, but they have one drawback - poor reliability. Making such a brazier with your own hands is quite difficult.
  2. In a portable folding barbecue, the elements do not completely separate, but move or fold. The main disadvantage is the short service life. At best, they last for one or two seasons.
  3. Currently, such a model as a disposable brazier, which is designed for one use, is very popular. Its undoubted advantage is its low price and light weight.

Stationary

A metal grill with a roof allows you to cook in almost any weather

The stationary brazier has a large number of manufacturing options. Such models can be with or without a roof. The first are self-sufficient. The roof will protect not only the cook, but also the furnace itself from direct sunlight, snow or rain, which will extend the service life. The latter are usually installed where there is already a canopy.

With a smokehouse

In such a grill, you can not only fry, but also smoke meat or fish

A brazier with a smokehouse can be used not only for frying meat or fish, but also for smoking them. To do this, it must be equipped with a tight metal cover, and on the sides on the inside, shelves should be provided for installing the grate.

The principle of smoking in such a barbecue is as follows: thin twigs are laid on the bottom fruit trees(apples, cherries or plums), and on the installed grate - prepared pieces of meat or fish. The brazier is covered with a lid and a fire is made under it. The branches inside from the high temperature begin to smolder, but due to lack of oxygen they do not light up. Thus, meat or fish are simultaneously baked at a high temperature and smoked in the smoke from smoldering fruit branches.

Unlike the rectangular braziers we are used to, American barbecue is often round.

The main difference between a barbecue and a barbecue is that the meat is not fried on skewers, but on a grill. In this case, not only coals, but also open fires can be used. Thus, the sides must be higher than those of the brazier, and fastenings for the grate are necessary on them.

Table: Pros and cons of different types of barbecues

TYPE ADVANTAGES LIMITATIONS
Portable (thin-walled)Compactness, ease of assembly, small weight, low price, mobility.Short service life, deformation and burnout of the main container is possible, they do not retain heat well.
Portable / mobile (thick-walled)It retains the temperature better, compared to the stationary one, it has a small weight, a long service life, and is resistant to corrosion.High price.
DisposableMobility, light weight, low price.Cannot be reused.
StationaryThe big sizes of a brazier, small heat emission, the longest term of operation.There is no possibility to move.
Allows not only to fry, but also to smoke meat and fish.Pretty hard to find for sale. Can be made to order or on your own.
Cooking not only on coals, but also on an open fire.Quite an expensive device.

Location selection

When choosing a place, you need to consider some important points:

  • you should not place the barbecue under trees or near shrubs, as the high temperature can scorch the branches;
  • do not place the device under film or fabric canopies, which can ignite due to heat;
  • it is advisable to take into account the wind rose so that smoke does not enter the windows of your house or neighbors;
  • the best option there will be a separate area equipped for barbecue, located near the main recreation area.

If the brazier is on the ground, it is advisable to pave the area under it with refractory material (stones or paving slabs). In the rainy season, this will allow you to approach the barbecue without interference, and the structure itself will not sink into the ground over time.

So, we smoothly approached the main issue of our conversation. How to make a barbecue with your own hands?

Tools and materials

To make a metal brazier with your own hands, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • sheet metal (iron or steel);
  • bolts and other fastening materials;
  • welding machine;

In the manufacture of a metal brazier, one cannot do without a welding machine

  • hand drill or electric drill;
  • grinder with cutting discs for metal;
  • angle grinder;
  • pipe or corner (for legs);
  • tape measure and square for marking;

For the 'pattern' of the metal parts of the brazier, you will need a grinder

  • angle grinder;
  • hammer or small sledgehammer;
  • pipe or corner (for legs);
  • tape measure and square for marking.

DIY manufacturing technology

The brazier, which we ourselves will make of metal, will be as simple as possible. For a small company, 8-10 skewers with meat are enough, and if the need arises, you can cook another serving.

Skewers should not interfere with each other, but large gaps between them should be avoided so as not to waste heat.

Following these arguments, we calculate the length of the structure. Classic skewer places 5-7 pieces of meat. The depth of the brazier is determined by practical methods. The meat should not be far from the coals, but it should not be placed too close, otherwise it will burn. The distance from the upper edge of the structure to the ground depends on the growth of the cook. Most often it is 75–125 cm.

Drawing

We make a drawing of our barbecue. The diagram may look something like the one shown in the following figure.

Mangal is not space rocket, so the drawing can be the most primitive

We will use sheet metal with a thickness of 2–3 mm as the material.

So, we mark up the sheet using a square so that there are no distortions:

  • 70x20 cm - 2 pcs. (back and front walls);
  • 70x28 cm - 1 pc. (bottom);
  • 28x20 cm - 2 pcs. (side walls).

We cut the elements with a grinder.

Small slits will help fix the skewer in the right position

On the upper long side of the sides, small cuts can be made to more securely fix the skewer in the selected position.

To ensure the flow of oxygen along the sides of the barbecue, a series of holes are made.

To ensure air flow inside the base-box, several holes should be drilled on the front and back panels with a diameter of 10 mm or more in increments of 10-15 cm from each other. Measure 2 cm from the bottom edge of the structure and draw a straight line, marking the places for the cutout.

Welding

For legs, you can use a corner of 20x20 cm or metal pipes with a diameter of at least 20 mm, 60–100 cm long (depending on the height of the cook).

If you use tubes, you can make the design collapsible. To do this, you will additionally need 4 bolts with nuts. Bolts are welded to each tube. In all four corners of the bottom of the box, you need to drill a hole with a diameter slightly larger than that of the bolts welded to the support legs. If corners are used, then they can simply be welded to the base.

If you want to add a smoking function to your barbecue, then it will be enough to weld two corners to the inside of its long sides at a height of about 7-10 centimeters from the bottom. You should also make a metal cover by welding small sides to a metal base, slightly larger than the size of the brazier. For convenience, it is recommended to weld a bracket on top of the lid, which will be used as a handle.

If desired, you can make a canopy or a shelf for firewood or coals, weld handles on the side walls, add a hook for a spade or poker.

The brazier can be not just an 'iron box', but a real multifunctional kitchen

How to care for a barbecue

Yes, the brazier needs care. What is it?

  1. It is impossible to pour hot brazier with water yet (from temperature changes, the metal can be deformed).
  2. Stubborn grease, soot or soot can be easily removed with a sand cloth.
  3. Lubricate the grill from time to time vegetable oil applied to a clean rag - this will add shine and at the same time protect the structure from adverse weather conditions.

Unusual barbecue design (video)

In conclusion, we bring to your attention a short video that shows how to make a metal grill using the base from the old sewing machine"Singer" (Singer).

Born in 1977 in Donetsk, Ukraine. Graduated from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute (now DonSTU) with a degree in Automated Control Systems. He worked at the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant. In 1997 he moved to Moscow, where for 8 years he worked in several construction teams.

A full-fledged picnic in nature is usually associated with barbecue and gatherings around the fire. The process of cooking meat on the grill gives the rest with friends solemnity and sincerity of the moment. Usually men are involved in the action, who claim that “barbecue does not tolerate female hands". We will not dispute their right to cook meat on coals, which came from ancient times, but we will consider how to make a barbecue with our own hands, we will provide photos, drawings and useful videos.

The birth of fragrant pieces of meat in the smoke is a kind of sacrament that can melt the heart of every impregnable beauty, and if you also make a brazier yourself, then the barbecue will become almost a culinary masterpiece.

Success factors for cooking delicious barbecue

The success of charcoal cooking depends on the following factors:

  • Properly marinated meat. You should not look for ultra-modern recipes that involve the use of mayonnaise, sauces and fermented milk products. A classic kebab is vinegar or wine, spices and parsley. And other marinades are only suitable for the softest and most tender pieces of meat. The organic acids found in parsley and vinegar are better for effective meat denaturation. In this case, this process means the breakdown of protein molecules to a state that will be most suitable for digestion by the body. Moreover, the acidic environment does not allow the fire to create carcinogenic compounds in food that are harmful to your health. The pieces of meat that you are going to cook on the grill with your own hands should be cubes with a side size of at least 4-5 cm. Thus, they will not dry out, but will be soft and juicy.
  • Mangal made by hand. The design of the brazier should be sized to fit skewers with sufficient clearances. Usually, the length of the brazier is equated to the length of the skewers, minus 15 cm. The width can be calculated from the conditions that there is at least 80 mm of space per skewer. The distance to the coals should be no more than 100 mm, and the depth of the fire should be up to 250 mm with slots for skewers along its long side.
  • Barbecue walls. The thicker they are, the better. And you should not clean off the soot from their surface, since this is a source of infrared rays, and without them you will only get meat baked on a fire. In order for the barbecue to be not only a tasty, but also a healthy dish, the air hole must be at the bottom, as in the photo presented by our Remontik website.
  • When the air flow passes through the coals from the bottom up, oxygen will burn out in it, and you will avoid the harmful oxidation of food enzymes. In the case of a lateral location of the blowing holes, oxygen will remain in the outgoing stream, which means that the barbecue cannot be considered healthy.
  • Fragrant coals. Browse through the archive of homemade barbecue videos. As a result, you will notice that the widest smiles of those present during the tasting of food cooked on firewood from fruit trees. Firewood from apricots, cherries, pears, apple trees and other fruit trees will give the dish a unique aroma and taste.
  • Making a brazier with your own hands. On the Internet you can find photos and drawings necessary to create a brazier with your own hands different types- from ordinary metal to stone or brick. Below we will consider all designs, moving from the simplest (made of metal) to more complex ones, such as a stone barbecue oven or a barbecue smokehouse.

The advantages of do-it-yourself metal grills

The main advantage of barbecues made of metal is their cheapness. Even if you buy the corners, metal sheet, pipes and rods necessary for the job, the price of the materials will be much less than the finished store product. Well, if you take into account that even metal trash in the form of cylinders, barrels, trimmings of corners and pieces will fit into this design sheet metal, then the cost of the finished product will be close to zero.

Another indisputable advantage is the ease of manufacture. Each person who owns welding can repeat a complex structure. In addition, such barbecues are easy to install in a new place and you can take them with you on a picnic. Sufficient wall thickness allows the barbecue to serve for many years. In addition, you will enjoy the result. Having created a masterpiece from scrap metal with your own hands, you will remember it with pride.

Attention! Braziers with insufficient wall thickness can burn out, they can lead when overheated, and they can rust from moisture and rain.

Do-it-yourself brazier from sheet material

If you plan to make a brazier from sheet material, then it will serve you for a long time, if the thickness is sufficient and the metal can withstand high temperatures, do not worry about burning out. Moreover, a product with a metal thickness of 4-5 mm will not lead, which often happens with structures welded from roofing sheets. Usually a device with a wall thickness of 1-2 mm may be needed for going out into the countryside. Its weight will be somewhat less, and the collapsible brazier, the drawings of which you will see below, is easy to transport.

Before you start work, you need to stock up on the necessary amount of metal, 2-4 mm thick, a corner with a shelf width of 40 mm, an angle grinder and a welding machine, an electric drill with drills, a marker, a ruler and a construction square. For the manufacture of legs, it is necessary to prepare a square or a pipe with a cross section of 400 mm 2 or more.

The work on the manufacture of a portable barbecue from sheet material is carried out in the following sequence:

  • The drawing is transferred to a metal sheet and the blanks are cut out with a grinder. Using a material 2 mm thick, a drawing is applied in the form of a sweep, and then the workpiece is bent at a right angle along the line where the side walls adjoin the bottom.
  • Take a sheet of metal.
  • Measure.
  • Cut out the required format.
  • We clean the edges of the sheet for the bottom.
  • We bend the sheet and grab it.
  • The side walls are welded perpendicular to the bottom with a square, after which the seams are carefully welded along the junction line.
  • All gaps are removed.
  • We take a welding machine and perform welding of joints.
  • We clean the seams.
  • With a drill with a diameter of at least 12 mm, holes are drilled for air inflow at the bottom of the side walls or bottom (it differs depending on the drawings used during the manufacture of the brazier with your own hands). If the air flow is carried out through the bottom, then it is important to provide an additional bottom box for the ash.
  • Part of the box is cut out.
  • Then the cover and partition are welded.
  • Drill holes for traction, with a diameter of 13 mm.
  • In long walls it is worth making cuts for skewers. It is good if you alternately cut grooves 6-8 cm and 3-5 cm long. Thus, you can set the desired height of the skewers above the coals.
  • We get a brazier ready for use: fill in the firewood, fill in the water and test.
  • The next stage involves the study of photos of barbecues from the Remontik portal or the creation of an independent frame where a barbecue assembled by oneself will be installed. This frame is made from a metal profile and a corner using a bolted or welded joint. Its design should provide shelves for firewood, dishes and appliances.
  • If you decide to make a brazier with your own hands from metal of insignificant thickness so that you can take it to nature, you can not use the frame drawings, they will not be useful to you. Well, if we weld short pieces at the corners of the bottom metal pipe up to 25 mm in diameter, into which a pipe of a smaller diameter (up to 20 mm) or pipe sections will be inserted as legs. You need to select their length, starting from your own needs.
  • Rod handles should be welded to the top of the short walls of the brazier for ease of carrying.
  • The roof, which is installed over the barbecue, will protect the hearth from rain and snow. It is not difficult to make it, it is enough to provide for several ceilings and side racks, on which roofing iron is subsequently laid.
  • Do not forget to decorate the work with various forged decorative elements that you can buy in the distribution network. Then the frame and the product are protected with a special metal brush and heat-resistant paint is applied. Upon completion of drying, the manufacture of a metal barbecue with their own hands is considered complete and they begin to fry the barbecue.
During work, you will be able to correct the drawings and make a brazier with your own hands, which best meets the aesthetic and technological requirements.

Make a collapsible metal grill with your own hands

If you are planning to transport an all-metal overall box, then think about creating a collapsible structure after reading our diagrams. Such products are easy to repeat, compact and quite durable. Plus, you can assemble a portable device in a few minutes. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the drawings and detailed diagrams that will allow you to create a brazier with your own hands. Photo of the process and step-by-step instruction help you get to the smallest details.

Scheme of a collapsible brazier

For work, you will need exactly the same tools and materials as for the manufacture of a one-piece welded structure. Additionally, you can stock up on reinforced metal shears, fasteners and a set of dies. Ready to start creating a collapsible brazier with your own hands? Our detailed instructions won't let you make a mistake. Decide on the required dimensions of the product, given the size of the trunk of your car. We offer the best option that will suit most cases:

  • length - 600 mm (suitable for six servings, and if necessary, you can increase it at the rate of 100 mm per skewer);
  • width - 300 mm;
  • wall height - 150 mm (20 mm distance will go under the grate);
  • the height of the support legs is 600 mm (it’s good if the length of the legs completely matches the width of the brazier, because you are looking for a compact design).

Usually, any do-it-yourself collapsible brazier model, the video on the creation of which you will see below, includes the following elements:

  • frame from a metal corner;
  • side and longitudinal sides;
  • fasteners;
  • grate.

Step-by-step instructions for a collapsible brazier for barbecue

  • To create a frame from the corners, you need to weld a rectangle of the desired size (if you take the dimensions of the barbecue as a basis, you should weld a frame 570 mm long and 230 mm wide with your own hands). At the corners of the structure, 50 mm pieces must be welded water pipe having an outer dimension of 17 mm. In the future, they will be inserted into the support legs.
  • For the legs, four pipes with an internal diameter of 18-20 mm are required. On the side of the pipes that will be pushed into the ground, it makes sense to install plugs.
  • Cut out the side elements and the bottom of the structure from the metal sheet, cut grooves in them and drill holes.
  • In strict accordance with the brazier diagram, bolt the bottom to the frame. To do this, you need to drill holes by laying a frame of corners on the base of the structure.
  • As a grate, a grate welded from reinforcement or a bar with a diameter of 8-10 mm can be used. Along the edges of the grate, weld legs 20 mm long from the same material.
  • Fasten the sides on four spokes (rods). To do this, at their ends, you need to cut the thread for the wing nuts and weld the rods to the lower and upper sides of the short walls. If you do not have the opportunity to use welding, you can fasten the spokes with horseshoe bolts. All bolts must be installed from the hearth side to prevent sintering of their threads.
  • To assemble the design of such a brazier with your own hands, you will not need instructions - the process is extremely simple. It is enough to fix the bottom on the legs, then get the peeking ends of the spokes into the slots on the sidewalls and tighten them with special wing nuts. Upon completion of fixing the assembled sidewalls to the base of the brazier and installing the grate inside, the process can be considered completed.

Do-it-yourself barbecue from a gas block or barrel

A propane tank or a metal barrel are excellent objects for making a stationary barbecue. This design has several manufacturing options - both with a hinged lid and without it. If you are planning to build a brazier from a barrel or a cylinder with your own hands, then we recommend that you start working from a drawing. In order to help, our construction portal "Remontik" offers to study a similar design scheme, where you can make the necessary changes.

O essential tool we will not write, because you already know what you need to have on hand. Among the materials you will need the same bars, pipes and corners.

A grinder can help you start creating a brazier from a balloon with your own hands. With it, you can cut the barrel in half length, height or cut the spectrum from its sidewall. In the future, it can act as a brazier cover.

Subsequent work must be performed in the following sequence:

  • The stand is made by bending the pipe in a semicircle, and then welding the legs to it. If you cannot bend the pipe, you need to weld two corners at an angle to each other, and then weld supports to their edges. As a result, two structures should come out, presented in the form of the letter M. All elements are interconnected by a welded bar grate, which as a result will act as a shelf for appliances and firewood.
  • Half of the barrel must be installed on a stand, and then welded.
  • With the help of a metal corner, the cut is ennobled - it carries not only an aesthetic load, but can also give additional convenience when laying skewers.
  • If the brazier that you plan to use also under the grill, then racks are welded from the sides of the barrel or stand for its installation. For a barbecue, to the inside of the barrel (cylinder) you need to weld brackets designed to install the grill.
  • At the bottom of the side walls, you need to drill holes with a diameter of 12-15 mm for air flow. It is better to make them in a checkerboard pattern.
  • It is possible that the barrel will be made on a stand so that its front cut is much lower than the back. In this case, the high back wall will protect the hearth from the wind. In this case, you do not have to ennoble the cut with a corner - it is enough to carefully clean the edges with a grinder. A horizontal grate installed along the front cut line will serve for barbecue, and in order to cook barbecue, you will have to weld a shelf on the back high wall for installing skewers with a width of 5 cm or more.
  • As a rule, the installation of the cover does not cause any difficulties. It is attached to the barrel with several strong loops. The machined edge of the lid makes the whole construction even neater.
  • A barrel with a lid can also be used as a smokehouse. To do this, it is necessary to attach to its side part chimney. You can design the drum ahead of time so that you can attach a pipe to the tank filler neck.

To make the brazier more beautiful will help decorative elements in the form of flowers, curls and leaves, bought on the construction market or made by hand. The roof and antique metal wheels will give a magical look to the structure of the brazier, which will help with its transportation. In other words, you can have unlimited scope for creativity.

Attention! If you decide to make a brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands, weld several corners on its bottom with a shelf of 50-80 mm. Thus, the coals will be evenly distributed over the surface of the bottom, not gathering in a thick layer in the center.

Finishing of metal products

Upon completion of work, the metal brazier must be cleaned of rust using a metal brush. Put it on a grinder or drill. Welded joints must be cleaned with an emery wheel grinder.

Then the outer surfaces are degreased and painted with special heat-resistant varnishes and paints. Ornament in the form of curls and leaves can be ennobled with cobwebs, giving them the look of ancient products. No need to paint inner part products. Also, do not clean the side of the soot that appeared during operation. It is believed that it has a positive effect on the quality of cooked products.

Make a brick brazier with your own hands

A do-it-yourself stationary brick brazier compares favorably with its solidity - it has thick walls that keep heat for a long time and allow you to cook a barbecue or a wonderful barbecue with your own hands without the risk of burning meat. Sometimes the design of barbecue grills is a single whole with a patio and a gazebo, being a whole complex that complements the style. garden plot. Having built this brazier, you can cook not just a barbecue, but also cook shurpa, fish soup, pilaf and smoke fish or poultry.

However, their significant drawback stems from the solidity of brick barbecues - they must occupy a permanent place. You will not be able to move it or hide it in the far corner. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully approach the choice of its location.

Do-it-yourself step-by-step construction of a brick brazier

Like any other building, the brazier needs a foundation. The ideal solution in this regard would be strip foundation with a pit depth of up to 0.6 meters. It is packed with stone or large rubble and poured cement-sand mortar. Above the ground surface, you need to lay a foundation of rubble stone (up to 0.3 m in height). For such a fireplace, the best option would be a colorful oven brick or a natural stone. Stone masonry is quite complex and requires experience. But be that as it may, you can build a brick brazier with your own hands, the main thing is to do the work without haste and carefully.

Before starting construction, we recommend that you carefully study the design of such a barbecue. Usually, all of them are a firebox with a low chimney. A grate is installed inside it, under which there is an ash pan chamber (several or one), closed by a blower. Under the ash pan, you need to equip a niche for storing firewood.

To build a brick brazier, you will need: 400 pieces of bricks, river sand, clay, several grates, a copper hood for the hood, a corner of 40x40 mm and 30x40 mm, doors or ash drawers.
  • You need to choose a place for the stove - under a gazebo canopy or in an open space. The composition of the solution directly depends on this. For the first option, you will need heat-resistant cement, and for the second, a clay solution is also suitable.
  • Take care of the arrangement of the foundation.
