    Now we need to connect the engine. In this case, it is better to install the starting capacitor and other electrics in a special plastic box. If the box is not at hand, you can take the usual plastic bottle. Such a bottle can be fixed at the engine itself, but it is better to place the switch on the handle of the mower, for greater convenience.

    Now we fix a suitable bushing on the motor shaft, put a knife or cutting disc on it and fix it. In this case, it is important that the knife is located at the right height and is securely fastened. In order for the knife to be put on the sleeve, you may have to drill a hole in it - see for yourself. Everything, the electric lawn mower is ready, now it remains to connect it to the network and arrange the first mowing of your lawn.

    Security measures

    When using a homemade lawn mower, be careful. Do not turn on the appliance when it is raining or when the grass is still wet.     2. Tricycles: it is more difficult to maneuver, but the mower is stable and its knife occupies a strictly horizontal position.
    3. Four-wheeled: irrational option: the advantages are the same as those of a 3-wheeler, but you will have to spend more on one wheel.

    The dimensions of the wheels and other elements are selected so that the knife is located 5 - 6 cm above the ground - then the cut will be even.

    Unlike a purchased one, a home-made mower cannot be made self-propelled and equipped with mechanisms for collecting grass and adjusting the cutting height. But she will successfully cope with the main function.

    Necessary tools and materials

    1. Blank for mowing shield: in a homemade version, this element is made from a large frying pan, a shallow bowl, or the bottom cut off from a large saucepan. In the absence of such, a steel sheet with a thickness of 2 - 4 mm is used.
    2. Chassis or wheels: the mowing shield is fixed on the finished chassis from a wheelbarrow or baby carriage, and if they are not there, axles are welded to it and wheels are put on them. They are borrowed from the same wheelbarrows or strollers, or they are made independently from plywood or plastic.
    3. Mounting hardware: bolts with nuts, studs, screws.
    4. Copper 3-core wire with plug.

    You will also need a steel equal-shelf corner with an arbitrary shelf width.

    Process of creation

    start by removing the electric motor from the washing machine.

    Preferred engines:

    • powerful;
    • heavy (provide stability);
    • asynchronous type (do not make noise).

    These requirements are most satisfied by motors from Soviet-made washing machines, and even better - from centrifuges.

    If the engine is low-power, the shortest knife is installed: the long one will cut the grass evenly only if it is constantly undermined.

    A homemade mower can be equipped with a purchased knife - this will not greatly affect costs. If it is decided to do this element with your own hands, consider the following:

    1. Geometric parameters of the knife: length: 30 - 50 cm, width: 2 - 3 cm and thickness: 2 - 3 mm. The longer the knife, the more productive the mower will be, which is important for large areas. But we must not forget about the power: the knife of the maximum length works properly only with engines with a power of 1.5 kW or more.
    2. The hole must be drilled exactly in the center so that the knife is balanced. At high speeds, imbalance will cause vibration with subsequent destruction of the shaft and motor.
    3. In the center of the knife, a short tin cylinder is attached coaxially with the hole, a suitable blank is a tin can. Without such a casing, the grass will be wound on the shaft.
    4. The cutting edge is turned at an angle of 60 degrees, with a smaller angle it will quickly become dull.
    5. The edges without cutting edges, that is, the back side of each half of the knife, are folded in order to ensure that the grass is cleared from the mowing shield with the help of blowing.

    There are two knife options:

    1. Full strip: made entirely from a strip of tool steel. For processing, it must be softened by tempering: the workpiece is heated in an oven and then allowed to cool slowly along with the oven. After processing, the part is hardened and then the cutting edges are sharpened.
    2. Composite: only the end parts of the knife 5 cm long, that is, its working part, are made of tool steel. The middle part, that is, the base, is made of ordinary inexpensive steel. All components are bolted together.

    The second option is more difficult to implement, but has advantages:

    • costs less;
    • when hitting a stone, one bolt is sheared and the cutting part is bent, while a full-blade knife in such a situation can damage the shaft and motor.

    Equipped with lawn mowers and knives in the form of a disk. When meeting with a stone, they do not break, but only become dull.

    As such, you can use one of the following elements:

    • stroller handle;
    • plastic water pipe;
    • a cutting from an agricultural tool.

    From these elements, a U-shaped structure is assembled.

    A rubber hose is put on a metal handle in the grip area for the purpose of electrical insulation. At the top, in close proximity to the user's hands, an emergency button is attached for an emergency stop of the motor.

    To start the engine, it is best to use the "native" control system from the washing machine.

    In its absence, for asynchronous motors, the same starting scheme is used as for conventional single-phase motors: with the help of a starting capacitor, the windings are connected to each other.

    The capacitor and other components of the electrical circuit should preferably be placed in a plastic box, where they will be protected from dust and pieces of grass.

    A regular plastic bottle can serve as a blank for such a box.

    Assembly process

    When making a homemade lawn mower, proceed in the following order:

    1. A mowing shield is attached to the chassis. If it was not possible to get the finished chassis, they act differently: axles are welded to the mowing shield and wheels with bearings installed in them are pressed onto them.
    2. A hole is cut in the mowing shield with a diameter several millimeters larger than the diameter of the electric motor shaft.
    3. An electric motor is placed on the shield, passing its shaft into the hole just made. Having thus determined its correct position, it will be possible to select the optimal dimensions of the support frame.
    4. Using electric welding, a frame for an electric motor is made from a corner. In its design, it is possible to provide a place for a plastic box for electrical parts.
    5. The engine is screwed to the frame, a knife is fixed on the shaft.
    6. Next, a tin casing is screwed to the frame to protect the motor from dust. A lot of holes are drilled in the casing for ventilation.
    7. A handle made in the form of the letter "P" is attached to the mowing shield or chassis.
    8. In the front part, a protective grille or arc is welded or bolted. The grid has more advantages: it holds the grass, ensuring an even cut, prevents the knife from slipping off the shaft and holds it in case of a break.
    9. A bolt is welded to the mowing shield to connect the ground wire.
    10. A wire is connected to the terminals of the starting device, and its third core in yellow-green insulation (grounding) is connected to the bolt on the mowing shield.

    The lawn mower is ready, you can start testing.

    Safety

    The probability of an accident for a homemade lawn mower is higher than for a branded one, so it is recommended to follow these rules:

    1. Do not mow a wet lawn and do not leave the device outside when it rains. It is not protected against moisture, so a short circuit and electric shock are likely.
    2. There must be no children and animals within a radius of 30 m from the working mower: a stone or a detached knife may fly out from under the device.
    3. The user should wear long trousers and closed shoes.
    4. In the event of a knife jamming or other breakdown, repairs can only be carried out after the device has been de-energized.
    5. Do not leave the mower without turning it off.
