Brazier from aerated concrete blocks. Do-it-yourself barbecue made of blocks and bricks. Photo instruction brazier from blocks and bricks

B-B-Q. The name, borrowed from Western magazines, essentially means in a suburban area with a place for cooking on an open fire. Modern barbecues, from simple barbecues, have turned into whole complexes for cooking on fire, in ovens, wood-burning stoves.

You can buy equipment, machinery and materials for a barbecue by visiting the large Construction Catalog with a wide range of high-quality and affordable goods for summer cottages, gardens and gardens.

cinder block barbecue

A priori, barbecue involves cooking over an open fire. As a result, there will be places of direct contact with fire in the barbecue complex. It is in these places that you need to use refractory materials. The skeleton of the barbecue (the basis of the structure) can be made from any available building materials. In particular, in this article, we look at the construction of a barbecue from cinder blocks with our own hands

What is cinder block

Cinder block is cheap construction material artificial production. Making cinder blocks concrete mixtures(cement + sand + water) by vibration pressing.

Depending on the forms used, cinder blocks are produced solid or hollow with a voidage of 28 to 40%. The main purpose of cinder blocks is the construction of walls, partitions, rough cladding.

Material calculation

For the construction of a barbecue, we choose cinder blocks with a voidness of 28-30%. We consider the amount of material according to the size of the future kitchen (barbecue), which we prescribe on a previously drawn kitchen diagram.

Size of a standard cinder block: W×H×D (190×188×390 mm), which corresponds to 4.5 bricks. One block is equal to 0.074 m 2.

Stages of work

The construction of the barbecue shown in the example includes the following steps:

  • foundation device;
  • Masonry skeleton barbecue from cinder blocks;
  • The device of the hearth and chimney;
  • Arrangement of countertops and hearth covers;
  • Facing the hearth with refractory tiles;
  • Facing the rest of the blocks.

The foundation of the barbecue is made shallow, such as tape or slab. In this option, a slab foundation is selected in the form of a solid concrete slab.

For such a foundation, a shallow pit is made. At the bottom of the pit, hydrotextiles and a pillow of sand are laid. The sand is pressed.

The pouring of the foundation slab is done after the installation of the formwork with the installation of a reinforcement grid into the formwork.

Concrete is poured directly into the level. To simplify alignment, the upper level of the formwork is best done along the upper level of the foundation.

Masonry skeleton barbecue from cinder blocks

After the foundation of the barbecue has solidified, we proceed to the construction of its walls. Cinder blocks are laid on a cement mortar diluted from a mounting dry mix. Laying is done in a run. It is better to put whole blocks in the corners of the structure.

Hearth device

  • At the bottom of the hearth, you need to lay a fire-resistant brick (refractory fireclay brick) in one layer. Method of laying in one brick.
  • The walls of the hearth must be lined with the same refractory bricks. Laying method in half-brick.
  • To maintain the upper alignment of the hearth, it is necessary to provide for the laying of a channel.

Chimney device

In this example, a concrete cover is made over the hearth. There is a hole in the lid for the chimney. To enhance the draft, the chimney is extended with cinder blocks in height.

Note. Leaving a concrete slab as a hearth cover is NOT wise. In the future, a special chimney will be built into the skeleton of the barbecue, which will protect the lid of the hearth.

Alternatively, you can immediately not the walls of the hearth, install a ready-made iron chimney, and then make a lid and cover it with blocks.

AT summer period very often cooking meat in nature is carried out. This is a fairly popular way. Cooking meat in small pieces using skewers does not require much effort - it is enough to build a small hill above the ground. And if you decide to cook a whole bird, for example, chicken or turkey? In order for it to be completely ready, a slightly different structure is needed.

Necessary materials
1. Cinder block - 25 pieces
2. Covers for cinder block -15 pieces
3. Iron fittings - from 6 to 8 pieces
4. Sand or gravel - 2-3 m³
5. Half concrete blocks(8x8x8) - 4 pieces
6. Patio stones (optional - 12x12) - 22 pieces

8. Metal pipe(4x15) - 2 pieces
9. Food barrel
10. Iron corner (20x1.8) - 1 piece
11. Wooden stick - 1 piece
12. Bolts - 4 pieces
13. Rod - 2 pieces
14. Heat-resistant black paint - 1 piece
15. Steel pipe 2 pieces.

Required Tools
1. Shovel
2. Gloves
3. Hammer
4. Long level
5. Short level

7. Roulette
8. Ax
9. Marker
10. Hand grinder
11. Metal cutting discs
12. Welding helmet
13. Metal mesh.

Step by step description
1. It is necessary to approach the choice of a place for a barbecue very seriously. It should be sufficiently removed from the trees. While digging a hole, you should carefully inspect the area so that there are no tree roots, as this can subsequently cause a fire.

2. The cinder block is quite heavy, so the foundation must be strong. After the pit is dug, it is necessary to lay stones around the perimeter of the patio in order to evenly distribute the load and the structure will not slip in the future. To hold the soil, you need to stretch a dense metal mesh. Cover the bottom of the pit with sand or gravel for fire safety.

3. Now you can start to stack the blocks tightly. At the same time, there should be holes on each side for better traction. On top of the patio stones, you need to put 3 rows of cinder blocks. At the third end of the row, a half cinder block is used so that there are small holes on both sides. Starting from the second row of masonry in front of the barbecue, you need to leave a window for access to the cooked meat. The support should be slightly higher, but not in contact with the second row of blocks. The depth of the pit turned out to be 25 cm. In the upper part of the third row of the cinder block, small holes should be drilled from four sides.

4. Directly for stands need 2.4m steel pipe, having previously made several holes in them in order to be able to adjust the height. The pipe must be firmly driven into the ground so that the height is approximately 20 cm lower than the height of the second row of cinder block (depending on the size of the iron corner).

Iron corners should be welded onto the pipes, and on them - "V"-shaped brackets (three for each corner) in order to rotate the pipes on which the meat will be cooked. The length of the corner should match the width of the barbecue.

5. You will need a food barrel for the hinged lid.

It needs to be cut in half vertically. Put the two parts of the barrel with the hole down, one on top of the other. From the corners, a square should be welded along the perimeter of the parts of the barrel and, using welding, connect the two parts into one. Get a cover. As a handle, you need an old wooden stick, which you can use to bolt to the resulting cover.

brazier made of bricks and blocks

As you know, if you like juicy and soft barbecue, then ideally you use a brick, and not an iron brazier. Of course, the second option is more convenient and cheaper, it can be updated almost annually, because there are many models on the market for any criteria. But a brick unit retains heat longer and provides a more even heat, which is necessary for quality roasting. If you have a large family or company, then only such a brazier will satisfy all expectations and collect all the praise.

How to make a brick brazier on your own? Let's take an example.

List of materials

Let's start with the purchases that are necessary for our construction:

  • bricks;
  • Expanded clay concrete blocks - 6 pieces;
  • Cement;
  • crushed stone;
  • fittings;
  • Sand;
  • Two iron plates 1-2 cm thick to delimit the levels of the barbecue.

Of course, you will need construction tools to work with the foundation and brickwork: corner, level, spatula, etc.. Of course, there will be expenses, but they can not be compared with the finished project of the barbecue area from the master. If working with bricks scares you, then consider the construction option - it is also very worthy.

Making a brick barbecue at home

Foundation

We are preparing a platform for the barbecue. We make a hole 15 cm deep over the entire area (80 cm by 60 cm). We fill up a layer of sand, then we make waterproofing, pour concrete with crushed stone (1 cement: 4 sand: 1 crushed stone), and place the reinforcement across the foundation (you can’t do without reinforcement, otherwise the structure will burst in the off-season). We put a mesh on top of the reinforcement and fill it all with another layer of concrete. We give a day to freeze.

Remember that you need to stir the concrete either with a stirrer or with a mixer, in a word, because the stick in this matter does not do its job well enough, and the mixture does not form the desired solution. Such concrete will not please you with durability.

Building construction and masonry

We mix the cement mortar and lay out the blocks. This will be an even and significant base for the barbecue. Let's start laying the brazier body. First, we estimate the dimensions in practice and build the first row of bricks without cement. For convenience, you can make notes on what and where will be located. The entire ordering of the brazier made of bricks is drawn in detail on the diagram.

We need the first floor as a stand for convenience, so as not to reach for the barbecue and strain your back, but to fry in comfort. Therefore, try on the exact size for your height. The second floor is a working compartment, we need it for cooking. We make it wide so that a circuit iron brazier fits in, where the coals will be kindled. So it will be easy to clean. The height of the second compartment should be about 30-40 cm. The roof is needed for decoration.

This design allows you to combine all the advantages of an iron and brick barbecue: the iron quickly heats up, but does not cool down due to the brick walls that retain heat.

Cooking is convenient, as everything is at the right height. On the top shelf you can place props for cooking barbecue.

Almost every outdoor enthusiast someday realizes that it's time to get your own barbecue oven. The very word "barbecue" is of French origin. This word refers to special ovens in which you can cook meat, fish, smoke, stew and even dry food.

Benefits of a barbecue oven

The barbecue is installed permanently. It does not need to be moved from one place to another every time.

This is much safer than a homemade brazier or something remotely resembling it.

Occupying a fairly small part of the site, the stove is able to bring a little chic and gloss to the life of this site. Especially if you don't skimp on Decoration Materials and carefully considered the design of the furnace itself.

No barbecue can replace the taste of meat that it acquires when cooked in the oven.

During cooking in such ovens, smoke does not enter the recreation area and does not prevent guests from enjoying nature, moreover, you can safely fry meat even in the rain.

And, finally, you can make such a chic thing for your site yourself. Do-it-yourself barbecue oven will surely delight your guests, they will come to visit you much more often to sit in a pleasant atmosphere near the stove.

Choosing a place for a future furnace and preparing for construction

If you have already decided that you can handle the construction of a barbecue with your own hands, then it's time to start choosing a place for the foundation for the oven. At this stage, you also need to think about how it should look, whether it will be with a pipe or not, what functional characteristics should have. Most best option build a miracle barbecue oven with your own hands - place it in the recreation area. Only at this stage it is important to think over the style of the future furnace so that it does not violate the unity of the entire structure. It is very convenient when the barbecue has its own separate roof. It can be made from slate, tiles. You can lay a barbecue from red brick, gas silicate blocks, natural stone. We will consider the construction of such a furnace with our own hands from foam blocks.

Building a barbecue requires a foundation. If this is supposed to be done in a recreation area, then there is usually already a foundation there. It is only necessary to take into account that it has reinforcement at the base and is at least 15 cm thick. If there is no foundation, then it should be done as follows: dig a trench, make a crushed stone pillow, fill it with water and tamp it well. Lay reinforcement on the pillow. Make a wooden formwork about 15 cm high and pour concrete. Then you have to wait 2 days until the foundation hardens. You can start building a furnace.

When preparing the foundation, consider the following points:

  • it is forbidden to place a barbecue from blocks under a tree, next to outbuildings and fences (to ensure fire safety);
  • in relation to the house, it is better to place a barbecue on the leeward side, which will prevent smoke from entering the house;
  • it is desirable to bring electricity and water to the chosen place;
  • do not forget about the paths of stone, concrete. Because barbecues and stoves always bring together a lot of people around them, and the lawn will quickly be trampled.

For this you will need the following materials:

  • 15 gas silicate blocks;
  • 150-160 pieces of oven bricks;
  • 7-8 10-liter buckets of red clay;
  • bag of cement;
  • sifted and washed river sand of medium grain size;
  • decorative stones for decoration;
  • crushed stone for the foundation pillow;
  • formwork (boards made of wood).

From the tools, prepare the following:

  • Master OK;
  • shovel;
  • 2 10-liter buckets;
  • bushhammer;
  • 2 barrels of 100 liters for soaking clay;
  • a container for mixing the solution and a mixer;
  • level;
  • sieve (to filter the clay solution).

How to build a barbecue?

The process of building a barbecue from blocks is quite lengthy. You can't rush here. Immediately you need to prepare a solution of clay. To do this, we take prepared clay, place it in barrels, fill it to the top with water. There it will get wet, and after a week it must be thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous mass is obtained. It should resemble thick sour cream. After that, we take 2 buckets of clay mortar, filter through a sieve into a box prepared for this. Add 2 buckets of river sand and 1 liter of cement. Mix everything again. We collect the solution with a trowel and tilt it a little. Clay should slide completely. If there are no marks left on the trowel, then you did everything right.

Then we prepare a cement-sand mortar in a ratio of 1: 3.

We lay out the pedestal for the future furnace from blocks using cement mortar. We make an open woodpile. There will be firewood. It is better to make it of such a size that you can put firewood on 2-3 fireboxes.

Next, we build the furnace part. On a clay mortar, we lay out bricks in 2 rows. At the same time, 1/3 of the brick should protrude forward so that finishing work can then be carried out. Barbecue facade can be done rectangular shape. An excellent design solution would be a facade in the form of an arch. To do this, it will first be necessary to build an arch from the boards, and the bricks will have to be wedge-shaped. Approximately 6 bricks wide and 3 bricks deep.

Upon completion of the construction of the furnace part, we proceed to the construction of the chimney. It must also be laid out of bricks for oven masonry on clay mortar. Attention: the bricks must be laid flat on top of each other. Be sure to insert the valve. And also by back wall it is necessary to remove the bend to improve traction.

From the blocks on the cement mortar, we put the structure for the sink on the side of the woodpile and the furnace part. You can supply water to the sink or make a niche behind the barbecue for buckets. The water in them will heat up when the stove is running. We remove the sewer.

On the sides of the stove we make countertops (from blocks, concrete and wood). A cabinet with doors for kitchen utensils is conveniently located under the table top.

At the corners of the furnace it is necessary to lay pipes for fixing the roof. Remember that the chimney must not be covered with a roof. Slope the roof to allow water to run off the surface. We decorate the barbecue with a decorative stone, bring the lighting. You can install a box for skewers and coals made by yourself or purchased from a store in the firebox.

After finishing work, you need to wait a couple of days, do not heat the stove right away. Otherwise, it will crack.

A brazier made of blocks made by hand at the dacha is a real lifesaver for those who like to relax and cook outdoors. It is easy to perform, does not require large material costs, can be made according to an individual project and will delight for many years. How to make a barbecue for an outdoor kitchen without problems, extra financial costs, you need to consider in more detail.

Garden stores currently offer a large selection of braziers made from the most different materials.

Good grills are expensive. The best way save money - make a barbecue from foam blocks with your own hands. Cooking area, kitchen fresh air not only decorate Vacation home, but will also become a place of pleasant pastime for family members and friends.

A do-it-yourself concrete block brazier made from concrete blocks will be indispensable for cooking for a large company. Standard store versions are usually much smaller than homemade ones.

Personal creativity has no barriers - only your ideas plus purchased materials. The most durable, inexpensive, large braziers are obtained from concrete blocks. How to build a barbecue for a summer residence yourself will be described in stages.

Any construction project requires careful preparation before its implementation. You will need the simplest calculation of the size of the planned summer kitchen brazier, on which the amount of necessary building materials will depend. For the construction of the brazier you will need the following materials:

    foam blocks; furnace grout (lime, cement, sand in a ratio of 1/1/5 plus water); concrete; formwork boards; metal fittings; accessories, gratings, etc.

To implement the plan, no special construction tools are needed, this list will definitely be found in everyone in the barn:

    shovels (bayonet, shovel); tape measure, level; hammer, nails; film; gloves.

An outdoor kitchen requires a serious and meaningful choice of location: it should be convenient to get to it from home and bring food, it should be comfortable for a large company to sit, not to interfere with neighbors, and be designed for constantly changing weather (have a roof in case of rain and a hard floor). A convenient option is a gazebo with a hozblok or a kitchenette. The indoor space will allow you to enjoy lunch in nature until the cold weather, and in technical room you can store coal, firewood and other barbecue accessories.

The base for the future barbecue should correspond to the size of the firebox, that is, the surface on which food will subsequently be cooked, exceeding it along the perimeter by at least 15 cm.

After determining the boundaries of the foundation, a layer of earth about 10 cm deep is removed, installed along the edges wooden planks, lay metal reinforcement crosswise in increments of 25-30 cm and pour concrete. The boards prevent the concrete from soaking into the ground. They must be chosen more than the depth of the excavated base.

Subsequently, the edges of the board protruding above the concrete will need to be carefully removed without damaging the foundation. For the first week, freshly poured concrete is recommended to be watered from above with water - this way it will “grab” faster and be more durable. When the concrete hardens, after about a month, carefully remove the boards, proceed to the construction stage.

Construction of concrete foundations

We take cinder blocks as the basis for the walls of the future barbecue, from which we lay out a niche in the shape of the letter “P” in 3 rows of blocks. The lower part should not be too large, it is intended for making a fire, accumulating heat from coals.

You shouldn’t make it small either, so that the required amount of firewood fits, the coals don’t burn out quickly, and they give the necessary heat. To access additional air into the furnace, several cinder blocks can be laid sideways. The cavities in their center will provide an influx of oxygen for burning firewood.

The described kitchen brazier does not provide for an additional storage compartment, this does not have to be built end-to-end with a barbecue, but can be placed at your discretion. If desired, a storage niche can be built on the same foundation with a barbecue.

To do this, the area of \u200b\u200bthe foundation must be doubled and made rectangular. Blocks are laid out according to the principle described above in the form of the letter "Sh". Such a brazier will be more bulky, but on the roof of the storage niche you can organize a small table for cooking, install a washstand.

On top of the blocks, we install a frame of boards for the future forged grill for frying.

The height of the boards is about 5 cm, the width depends on the width of the lattice. Remember that the grating should not fall into the concrete perimeter, but exactly enter. This will allow you to easily remove the grate, wash it after each cooking.

We fill the plank formwork with our own prepared concrete. For its manufacture you will need (based on 1 m):

    water 200 l; sand 800 kg; fine gravel 1000 kg; cement 400 kg.

All components are thoroughly mixed and laid out in a wooden perimeter. Then you will need a board with even side edges.

With its help, moving it along the filled surface, we level the concrete and remove its excess. Get a perfectly flat and smooth surface. We cover the structure with a film that protects against the vagaries of the weather, and wait for the concrete to dry.

When the concrete finally sets, and this will happen in about a week, the wooden formwork should be carefully removed and the installation of the frying grate should begin. For your comfort and safety, it is recommended to close the firebox window where the logs are burning with a metal or tempered glass door so that flying sparks do not burn you and burn your clothes. Do-it-yourself external walls of a cinder block barbecue are perfectly decorated with facing bricks or stone, refractory tiles.

If the barbecue area allows, you can install special fasteners for the spit. To do this, in the side perimeter, you will need to drill holes for the cast-iron structure and securely fix it. Dishes cooked on a spit not only create a special atmosphere, but also amaze with their excellent taste.

So that the smoke does not interfere with the resting guests in the gazebo, it is advisable to attach an exhaust hood to the barbecue.

You will need lighter building blocks, such as foam concrete. We will construct 4 racks from it, on which we will subsequently install the hood. The height of the racks is adjustable based on the size of the brazier and skewer.

Don't forget to have some accessories on hand.

They can be placed in a small niche attached next to the barbecue. A small shed or kitchen will accommodate a poker, tongs, scoop, lighter fluid, the essentials for barbecue. The outdoor kitchen, which has turned out together with the barbecue, will delight the whole family in any weather.

When building a country barbecue from blocks, aerated concrete blocks are gaining more and more popularity. This material is almost identical appearance brick, made of porous concrete, has high strength and heat resistance. The smaller size and lightness of aerated concrete make it possible to perform different kinds masonry, build higher barbecues and on less heavy and labor-intensive foundations.

This building material is produced in various color options, which allows you to implement design ideas even at the stage of laying the walls of the building. A porous concrete barbecue can be made bright and decorative without spending extra money on facing materials.

Dacha is the main vacation spot for most Russian families.

Since Soviet times, a tradition has been firmly established to go out into nature, as soon as the first snow melts, to relax and cook on an open fire. That is why the presence of a stationary barbecue in a suburban area can rightly be called a first necessity. On the market, you can choose options for barbecues for every taste and budget.

However, ready-made options always have some “but”: either the brazier is too small, or the price is high, or there is no storage space, or the design itself is not to your liking. If you have the desire and basic building skills, it is easier, cheaper and, in accordance with your vision, it is better to make a brazier yourself. You will definitely organically fit such a hearth into your summer cottage landscape, you will enjoy delicious and fresh food for many years in a pleasant company of friends.

To date, gardening stores have enough wide range of devices for cooking outdoors, which differ from each other in material and technical characteristics.

A brazier made of blocks is in particular demand - an easy-to-use device that also serves as a decoration for a personal plot. The main thing is to choose the right building material and follow the instructions for building a brazier. In this case, you will get not only a beautiful, but also a durable structure. by hand from various blocks according to an individually designed project, they are great for preparing a variety of meals for a large company. After all, many standard models from stores are smaller, thereby limiting the amount of food cooked. In addition, homemade braziers are characterized unique design and reliability. And their construction is not particularly difficult.

Advantages and types of blocks

The operation of a prefabricated brazier made of blocks in terms of ease of use and external attractiveness is practically in no way inferior to brick buildings. These designs have several advantages:

    light weight of building materials allows you to abandon the heavy foundation; if necessary, you can independently change the linear parameters of the blocks; spoons have a ribbed surface, which allows you to use the solution more economically; different materials can be used to finish the corrugated surface; low thermal conductivity; resistance to frost; increased strength; long operational period.

Manufacturers offer a fairly wide range of different materials that are intended for the construction of barbecues:

    foam blocks; gas blocks; cinder blocks.

Foam block

Foam blocks are called building materials, which are made from special mix cement, sand, water, protein or synthetic foaming agent, as well as various additives that promote rapid hardening. They have a fine mesh structure. Depending on the production technology (under high pressure or without it) and performance characteristics are divided into several grades.

For laying the brazier, experts recommend using foam blocks of the D500 to D900 brand.

However, when choosing this building material, it is necessary to remember about the shortcomings, which include:

    significant shrinkage; absorb enough a large number of moisture; the formation of chips on the edges with careless handling; do not hold nails, as well as self-tapping screws.

For the construction of the brazier, you can use a regular solution, but builders recommend giving preference to special glue on cement base for thin and strong seams.

gas block

In the composition of gas blocks, in addition to cement, sand and water, there are gypsum, lime, as well as metallurgical slag. A suspension or paste of aluminum dust serves as a blowing agent. Gas blocks have the following advantages:

    Practically do not shrink; Fasteners hold well.

But it should be noted that their through channels absorb liquid too much.

The brazier, built from a cinder block with your own hands, is characterized not only by durability, but also by its aesthetic appearance. For the manufacture of these blocks, manufacturers use a large amount of filler:

    ash; tyrsu; slag; shell rock.

Blocks are both hollow and monolithic. The first option is not used so often, because mold and fungus start up in its pores.

What to choose?

Street barbecues are non-residential buildings, so for their construction you can pick up a cinder block - the cheapest building material in blocks.

However, for the construction of a brazier that meets special requirements (environmental safety, attractiveness, durability), preference should be given to more expensive options - gas blocks or foam blocks.

Combined braziers made of concrete or other material are simple structures small sizes equipped with a chimney. The blocks are used to build a firewood shed, on which a chimney is installed in the form of a solid concrete bell. For the construction of an open firebox, refractory bricks can be used.

To date, multifunctional barbecues with hobs and smokehouses. All elements must function independently of each other.

How to build?

Braziers made of concrete or other material have not been as popular for a long time as block structures that do not require much effort during construction. You should start by pouring the foundation, the dimensions of which should correspond to the weight of the future brazier.

Of the main features, it should be noted that for masonry it is necessary to use not a concrete solution, but a construction adhesive, which is almost invisible after drying.

Location selection

To build a brazier from expanded clay concrete blocks with your own hands or structures from other building materials, you should choose a place that will meet the following requirements:

    To be near the house or a summer kitchen, so that it is convenient to carry groceries; Have enough space to accommodate a large number of people; So that the location of the barbecue does not interfere with neighbors.

Construction site arrangement

To ensure the durability of a self-made brazier, you can carefully prepare the construction site: clean it of debris, remove the top layer of soil about 15 cm thick.

For the successful implementation of the project for the construction of a brazier from blocks, it is necessary to prepare the following materials:

    Foam blocks, gas blocks or cinder blocks in the right quantity. Special oven grout. Durable metal fittings. Concrete for preparing mortar for laying blocks. Formwork boards. Lattices. Various accessories for finishing the structure

In addition, you will need different tools:

    shovel and bayonet shovels; level; tape measure; hammer; fasteners; film.

Foundation organization

One of the important stages of construction is the construction of the foundation.

Due to the fact that the blocks are light in weight, it is possible to abandon the foundation that is required for heavy structures.

In this case, the depth of the base can be approximately 15 cm, and its width and length must correspond to the parameters of the furnace.

The resulting recess should be filled with concrete mortar, and then shrink and allow it to dry completely (it will take about a week).

Barbecue masonry

The next step is the barbecue.

It is necessary to strictly follow the developed project. Blocks are connected with special building glue. At this stage, you need to make all the holes and install the fasteners for the grates, skewer and doors.

Stitching

So that the brazier, built from block material, has beautiful view, stitching is required. To do this, you need to use a level and a special grout to make them even and neat.

In order to be able to use the brazier at any time of the year, regardless of weather conditions, it is necessary to take care of its protection from atmospheric phenomena.

To do this, it is enough just to make a canopy or build a structure like a gazebo.

In addition, it should be noted that hygroscopic building materials, such as foam blocks, should not come into contact with the ground, so a higher foundation is required, especially in swampy areas.

To prevent the destruction of blocks under the influence of moisture, their porous surface is coated with acrylic varnish, as well as polymeric agents with water-repellent agents. Experts also advise using decorative trim to increase the degree of protection and improve its appearance.

Installation of gratings, fixtures, final decor

After the concrete is completely dry, it is necessary to remove the formwork, and then install the grills for frying, a metal or hardened door on the firebox window. If a cinder block was used to build the brazier, then the outer walls must be lined with natural or artificial stone, brick or refractory tiles.

For sufficiently large braziers, experts recommend additionally installing mounts for the spit. The entire construction process is shown in the video

You should also take care of the presence of a hood, the racks of which will be made of light building materials, such as foam concrete.

Alternative materials for your barbecue

Recently, more and more people prefer aerated concrete grills.

This is due to the fact that it is made of porous concrete and has the appearance and performance properties similar to brick. Due to its compact dimensions and low weight, this material is excellent for building a tall brazier on a light foundation. In addition, thanks to the wide color scheme you can choose a shade that will best suit the landscape and will decorate the site.

A private house or cottage is a place where many people gather for friendly gatherings. At such moments, it is especially convenient to cook food on an open-air brazier.

For this, a brazier made of blocks is ideal, which is convenient to use and can be quite large.

For the construction of such a structure, you can choose a beautiful building material, so that it will perform both practical and decorative functions.

A stationary barbecue gives you the opportunity to relax with a delicious feast and a view of the dancing flames in any season. It is always ready for use, pleases the eye and decorates the local area.

The cost of its construction can be significantly reduced without compromising the quality of the furnace. Replacing a significant amount of expensive brick with blocks is a great option for budget-conscious owners. They can lay out all the constructions that are not adjacent to the open fire parts.

Advantages and types of blocks

Blocks have long and successfully competed with bricks. Their most notable difference is their large size. Strength indicators do not differ significantly from the characteristics of bricks.

By laying out the foundation of the gazebo, the pedestal, the outer walls and the functional niches of the brazier in blocks, you can significantly reduce the consumption of bricks. The use of blocks reduces the cost of construction and significantly speeds up the process. They also have other advantages:

relatively low weight, which makes it possible to simplify, reduce the foundation, facilitate loading and unloading work, the masonry process. the ability to easily change their linear parameters (by sawing), to make holes. high strength, durability.

low thermal conductivity (due to its cellular structure). frost resistance. the ribbed structure of the spoons, which reduces the consumption of the solution. corrugated surface suitable for plastering and fixing finishing materials.

The range of blocks on the market is quite wide.

Foam block

Concrete blocks from a mixture of cement, sand and water acquire a fine-mesh structure due to the introduction of a foaming agent (synthetic or protein) and hardening accelerating additives into the composition of the mixture. They are produced in two ways (under pressure and without pressure), have several varieties according to strength grades. For laying the frame of the brazier, a material of a structural and heat-insulating type (grades D500 to D900) is suitable.

It also has disadvantages:

shrinkage due to a significant amount of water in the composition of the mixture (3 mm per meter of height), which is not so important when building a brazier.

much greater than that of a brick, the ability to absorb moisture (requires finishing with plaster, painting or treating the outer surface with a special emulsion to protect concrete - a water repellent. fragility of edges prone to chipping during rough handling. does not hold nails and ordinary self-tapping screws.

Bright White color blocks - a sign of a violation of production technology. Norma is a light gray shade, ideally uniform.

Laying foam concrete is also allowed on a traditional mortar, but the craftsmen recommend using a special cement-based adhesive, which allows you to get thin, almost invisible, but very strong seams.

gas block

The basis of the mixture is the same: cement, sand and water.

It is enriched with gypsum, lime, metallurgical slag. Gas-forming - aluminum dust in the form of a paste or suspension, actively releasing hydrogen when interacting with a strongly alkaline cement mortar. Trying to find a way out, the gas swells the mixture, increasing its volume.

This material is almost not subject to shrinkage, but even less resistant to moisture than foam concrete.

Its through channels are quickly saturated with water. High-quality surface cladding is required for most of its types. But he firmly holds nails and other fasteners, which is important for fans of mounted decorations.

cinder block

The concrete mixture for this block has a large amount of filler: slag, ash, shell rock, tyrsa. It's the least eco-friendly material. Blocks are produced monolithic or hollow.

Monolithic products are heavy, but great for arranging the foundation. The cinder block quickly conducts heat, so do not expect significant heating of the surrounding space from such a design. It is very hygroscopic, fungus and mold start in the pores.

What to choose

For non-residential buildings, which include a street barbecue, the cheapest of the blocks is the cinder block. When presenting special requirements for the design (in terms of external attractiveness, environmental safety), it is advisable to use a more expensive material.

Combined barbecue projects

A simple, compact brazier with a pipe for removing smoke. The lower niche, a woodshed, is laid out of the blocks.

An integrally cast concrete chimney chimney was installed. The open firebox is made of refractory red brick. Suitable for gazebo.

multifunctional furnace design, complemented by a smokehouse and a hob.

All zones work autonomously, depending on the need. Brick fireboxes and chimney, block side walls and niche fencing. Full outdoor kitchen area.

A massive outdoor brazier without unnecessary details, completely laid out of blocks and lined with bricks. The upper perimeter is covered with a tabletop that decorates the structure and facilitates the cooking process.

How to build

The initial stage of work is pouring the foundation. The foundation is selected based on the weight of the future structure. Read more about the choice and construction of the foundation for stoves and barbecues.

The process of building braziers from combined materials is practically no different from laying a completely brick brazier, with the exception of the obligatory protection of block elements from moisture.

Of the construction features, it is worth noting that for brick, use a mortar suitable for laying bricks, for a foam block or other porous material, a mortar suitable for it. The easiest way is to buy ready-made solutions.

Weather protection

The best protection is a canopy or gazebo.

This will be sufficient for structures made of autoclaved gas and foam concrete, high quality gas silicates. By eliminating the direct effect of moisture, it is possible to minimize the destructive processes that occur during alternating strong moisture and subsequent rapid evaporation of moisture. Buildings made of these materials, without any protection, can last up to 40 years.

The foam block or any other hygroscopic material should not come into contact with the ground.

For swampy areas, it is worth making a higher foundation so that even in rainy weather puddles do not reach the blocks.

The absorbent properties of non-autoclaved blocks are higher. It is necessary to protect their porous surfaces from street dampness with acrylic varnish or a special water-repellent polymer composition.

Additional decorative trim increases the degree of protection, makes the brazier more beautiful. It must also be fire resistant. Facade can be finished:

    decorative plaster of various textures (on top of a grid fixed on the wall). Artificial stone. Natural stone, facing or glazed brick (the most expensive way).

You can use inexpensive rubble stone or imitation of wild, shell rock (ceramovermiculite).

The use of tiles is not recommended. ceramic tiles. It can lay out only the inner surface of niches for dishes. The choice of material for finishing due to the budget of the owner of the barbecue, the presence or absence of a canopy, the decor of the house and the backyard.

The block frame is a great opportunity to make the brazier lighter, faster and cheaper. It can remain invisible under the exterior finish or become a bright, extraordinary accent of the brazier in modern style. Treat yourself and surprise your guests.

Good day.

I had an idea to build an aerated concrete brazier on the site. Quite a lot of blocks remained after the construction of the house. They will not be enough for a serious building such as a utility block, but it is a pity to throw it away.

Tell me, please, is this possible? Will such a stove fall apart after several uses? If possible, how best to do this, what kind of masonry mortar to use? We do not need a complex structure with a chimney, a stove and other bells and whistles - just a convenient place to grill meat or fish on coals.Anna

A simple brazier made of foam concrete blocks

Hello Anna!

Concrete brazier - the design is quite common. Moreover, it is made both from blocks and by pouring a liquid solution with reinforcement into the formwork. But you are interested in building from blocks, so we will talk about this method.

Advantages of aerated concrete grills

To begin with, we will dispel your fears about the unreliability of such outdoor stoves. Both gas and foam concrete are quite resistant to thermal effects due to the presence of many air-filled pores in the material structure.

But this does not mean that fire can be made directly on the blocks in closed chamber- they really can not withstand such a temperature. Therefore, real stoves and fireplaces are not made from them. But for the barbecue or barbecue, they are quite suitable.

Advice. If you want to build a do-it-yourself outdoor stove with a vault and a chimney, its inner part will have to be laid out of ceramic bricks.

It is much easier to make such a brazier with your own hands than from a brick. Because:

    One block replaces several bricks, so construction is faster, there are fewer rows, it is easier to align them; Aerated concrete blocks are easily sawn and milled with a wood tool, which also makes work easier; They are quite light due to the cellular structure.

In addition to all of the above, this material is made from natural components, and therefore, even when heated, it does not emit toxic substances that harm a person or the atmosphere.

Advice. If you choose between aerated concrete and foam concrete blocks, then the price of the former is higher, but they are also stronger. Foam concrete is cheaper, but you only need to buy prefabricated blocks

How to do

So that your brazier does not fall on its side and does not crack at the seams, you need to pour a foundation under it. Its dimensions in the plan are determined by the dimensions of the future structure, so the project must be drawn in advance or used ready-made.

Advice. Make the length of the walls a multiple of the size of the blocks, taking into account the seams, so that they do not have to be cut.

Foundation device

After marking the perimeter of the brazier on the surface, do the following:

Take out the soil to a depth of 30-40 cm; Tamp the bottom and fill it with gravel to half the depth.

Pack the filling, too; Place the formwork and fix it well. The top of the formwork must be horizontal and protrude above the ground to the desired height; Pour concrete mortar from cement, sand and gravel into the formwork in a ratio of 2:3:4. Every 5-8 cm of the pouring thickness, lay the reinforcing mesh;

    Having filled the formwork to the top, level the surface of the foundation with a long rail, resting it on the edges of the formwork; Tap the sides of the formwork with a hammer to expel air bubbles from the solution; Cover the foundation with a film and leave it to harden for 3-7 days, depending on temperature and humidity air.

Barbecue masonry

The concrete brazier can be of different shapes and sizes. If you have chosen the most simple design rectangular shape with a grate fixed in the walls of the stove, then Additional materials you won't need it.

If you want to cook food in any weather, then it is better to make a barbecue with a firebox and a chimney. Then you have to buy refractory bricks and heat-resistant glue. Or prepare a solution of sand and clay.

Briefly, the instruction for creating such a structure looks like this:

    Starting from the corners, lay out the first row of blocks on three sides of the foundation.

For masonry, you can use ordinary sand-cement mortar, but it is better to buy heat-resistant glue. It is easier to cook it, and the consumption will be much less due to the small thickness of the seams. Visually, this layout looks neater.

    The second and subsequent rows are laid out with an offset of half a block.
    After reaching the desired height of the base, fix the concrete slab on it. You can pour it yourself by making a removable plywood formwork on the spot. The solution for the countertop is prepared in the same proportions as for the foundation and reinforced with a metal mesh. and the vault and chimney, if provided, are again made of brick. Do not forget to make ledges or grooves for the grate at a height of 25-30 cm from the base of the firebox.

Alternatively, the top of the brazier can be made from sheet metal. You can start using the stove no earlier than after 4-5 days.

Conclusion

The video in this article will tell you more about the construction of concrete outdoor ovens. This is not uncommon, therefore, if desired, you can find projects of similar structures, and descriptions for them.

We hope that we have dispelled your doubts, and your concrete grill will delight you for a long time. delicious meals cooked outdoors.
