Homemade car model

It is easy for a child to instill a love for technical crafts by keeping him unusual crafts. One of these crafts is a miniature wooden car.

In order to make such a machine, we need printouts of photographs of a variety of machines, wood blanks, as well as a band saw or jigsaw, glue, sandpaper, acrylic paints, a sander or sandpaper pasted on a wooden block, tape measure or ruler.

Making a car model out of wood is not difficult work, but it is better to do it with your child or let him make such a car on his own under your control, especially if machines are used in the manufacture.

Even small children's 6 in 1 Machine Tools must be used with care and safety.

At the very beginning, you will need to print a photo of the machine that will be manufactured. The desired size should be edited by yourself. It will be easiest to find photos of the car in the vastness of the network. The photo must be of the side of the car, as well as the trunk, hood and roof. However, you can use only photographs of the side parts, and draw the top view yourself in a graphics editor.

However, you can arm yourself with paints and brushes and draw the missing details directly on the wooden blank after assembly.

When the images are prepared and printed, you can proceed directly to work, that is, pick up a wooden blank and see if the side image of the machine fits on it.

If the image fits, then you should immediately glue it to this blank. We need it in order to band saw or a jigsaw to carefully cut out a picture - a car.

In the future, the forms will be processed, so at the first stage it is enough to make a silhouette of the car.

After the silhouette is carved on the tree, sandpaper is used to level the surface of the car. If you used sticks of a thinner section than the finished car model, merge them together.

For gluing, it is better to use clamps or put a load on the parts to be glued.

When the blanks dry out, it will be necessary to complete the processing of the tree, bringing it to an ideal state. For this mission, you will need a sander from the 6 in 1 Machine Tool kit or sandpaper glued to a block of wood.

To do this, unstick the photographs attached to the blank.

Top 20 wooden cars

They often suffer during processing and it's time to replace them with the final images.

With the help of paper, multiple irregularities are removed that would interfere with the correct gluing.

For gluing on a cleaned surface, apply on both sides a small amount of glue and the prepared pictures are glued. The glue is applied carefully over the entire plane, in order to cover the side of the workpiece with a thin layer of glue, use a thin wooden plate - for example, a piece of an ordinary student's ruler to smear the glue.

The glue must be chosen so that it does not impregnate the paper and ugly spots do not appear. Titanium ceiling tile adhesive is very suitable for this - it is a colorless, transparent, alcohol-based adhesive.

After the printouts are pasted, it is necessary to leave the blanks to dry completely for about an hour.

Now you need to give the car model a beautiful aesthetic appearance. Therefore, with the help acrylic paints we make the color of the "wooden car" identical to the "real" one.

Finish the roof, hood and windshield and rear window. If you have used prints on all surfaces of the workpiece, then watch how the paper joins at the corners of your model.

If the desired color scheme does not work out, you should mix paints and draw the missing details. To draw small details, you should take a brush with a thin tip.

After the paint has dried, the model should be varnished for the durability of the craft.

Steering wheel for a computer from improvised materials

Tell in:
Recently, the thought came to my mind: why not make a steering wheel for a computer?

In stores, these devices are very expensive. And at home and with some skills in drilling and soldering, it is quite possible to make.

The steering wheel circuit is no different from the circuit of an ordinary joystick. Connects to the GAME/MIDI port and does not require any drivers or special software. The port itself supports two joysticks, which include 2 variable resistors and 2 buttons. In our case, I used 2 variable resistors and 4 buttons (I borrowed two more buttons from the second joystick).

The scheme is the simplest!

Rice. one. circuit diagram joystick

Rice. 2. Appearance DB15F plug on pin side

As you can see, even a beginner can collect this scheme, there is nothing complicated here. Now how to make it.

The most important part is the steering wheel. You can take ready-made (from the machine) or make it yourself. I took it from an old children's toy (the car drives in circles on a magnet). The steering wheel is the most suitable, only small. It is made of plastic, so it is a pleasure to work with it. You can, of course, do it yourself. For example, by bending a polyethylene tube into a circle and making a transverse mount. In extreme cases, cut out of wood and sheathe it with some kind of fabric. Here fantasy will tell.

Do-it-yourself wooden car for a playground: materials and ideas used

Speed controller - mounted in any accessible place, a handle from any radio receiver or the like is placed on the shaft.

So, we figured out the steering wheel. Now resistors. The thing is very common, on any radio market you will find them in any quantity. The main thing is to choose one that does not break, so it is better to take those that are larger. I used SP-1 and SP-3, both 100k ohms. With resistors, too, I think everything is clear.

Buttons. Since my steering wheel is made of plastic, I took the buttons from two old broken mice. These buttons are very small in size and just fit inside the steering wheel. I fixed them on the crossbar, so that they did not interfere and they had easy access. I glued plastic beads on the buttons themselves, because. the buttons could not be pressed without the help of some sharp little thing.

It seems to work well, almost like in a store.

Fastening. Made to taste. Wood, plastic, aluminum plate. In short, from what will be at hand. You can adapt some kind of plastic box, then all the wires and resistors will hide inside. The structure can also be attached to the table at will, for example, on a clamp or with a vice.

When the steering wheel is assembled, you need to solder the conductors to the resistors and buttons. You have to be careful with the buttons, they are small and plastic, they will melt in one fell swoop if you overheat. Any wire, but the most suitable - 8-core wire - twisted pair. The one with which a computer network is laid. The plug is bought on the market, they are also in abundance. Soldered? Amazing!

Now you need to adjust the steering wheel so that with the middle position of the resistor, our steering wheel is in its original state. The same goes for the speed controller. All!

We connect all this business to a sound card. Go to Control Panel, select Game Controllers. Click Add Gamepad. In the menu, select - 2 axes 4 buttons. Then OK. After that, we need to calibrate the joystick. The system will tell you how to do it. If when you turn the steering wheel to the left, the cursor goes to the right - it's okay, you just need to swap the wires on the resistor contacts.

Rice. 3. Setting up and calibrating the steering wheel in Windows

As a result, after much torment, planing, soldering, etc. it turns out something similar to the steering wheel, with which, maybe, even it will be possible to play.

Rice. 4. Steering wheel photo

Congratulations, the wheel is ready. Under the worst circumstances, it will cost you a penny. But there will be pride from what you have done with your own hands! Good luck.

Olga's diary (fairy toys made of wood) (yarolapka) - BabyBlog.ru

9-01-2016, 21:40

Children's toys have never been cheap, which is why parents are forced to spend a lot of money on buying toys, which, meaning money, is often not enough for the most necessary things. By the way, toys to some extent can also be ranked among the most necessary.

wooden cars

It is also necessary to point out that absolutely everyone can make a children's toy with their own hands, there is absolutely nothing super complicated about this. In this article, we will look at several ways to make wooden toys with your own hands.

DIY wooden machine

In order to make a wooden typewriter, you will need a wooden block 50x50 14 cm long, a cutting from a garden tool, a jigsaw, a knife, a grinder, a drill, a drill, varnish and a brush. If a grinder is not available, you can use ordinary sandpaper in this case.

In fact, the task is simple, all you need to do is cut a car out of a bar, however, this is much easier said than done. First you need to cut off large pieces of excess wood using a jigsaw. In order not to cut off the excess, it is necessary to mark the bar in advance, and then proceed to cutting.

After you need a sharp knife, with its help you will need to bring the resulting workpiece to the required state. The task is to cut a product that looks very much like a car.

Then, in the resulting car, you need to drill two through holes under the wheel chassis. The diameter of the holes must correspond to the elements on which the wheels of the machine will be mounted.

Then you need to make wheels, they need to be cut from the handle. They should be the same, you need a jigsaw for cutting. In this case, you also need to markup first.

Holes must also be made in the wheels, exactly in the middle.

Before assembling the machine, it is necessary to sand it, and then varnish it. If desired, the machine can be painted. Of course, again, if desired, it can not be finished in any way, leaving the wood in its original form.

Such a machine will a wonderful gift to kid.

By the way, if you are interested in children's illustration, you need to contact the site fbtstudio.com, you can place an order with them. FBT Studio is a private studio, so in the case of it, you won't have to deal with intermediaries, and therefore overpay. By the way, their prices are the most fair. And yet, they always understand what exactly the client needs, which is why they have such great popularity.

Having decided to please their child with another toy, most parents head to the store with a confident step. However, there is alternative way resolving such an issue. It's always nice to give a gift with my own hands. If you stock up on a bit of patience and healthy curiosity, you can find out from a tree. Moreover, it will be no worse, and perhaps even better than its store comrades.

Where to begin?

Be sure to take into account the fact that the creation process may take some time, so it is better to properly plan your resources in advance. Having dealt with the question of how to make a car out of wood, you should pay attention to the tool that you need. Here everything is extremely simple and clear. The most ordinary ones are perfect. You also have to decide on the size of your creation. The machine may be the size of the original, but in this case it will take a lot of materials and time.

How to make a great car out of wood?

Start with a sketch. It does not have to be an artistic creation in every detail or a masterfully executed drawing, simple sketches on paper will suffice. The main thing is that you understand the main idea and see in which direction you need to move on. Do not get hung up on the little things, they can always be completed during work. Get your ideas down on paper and modify them as the project progresses toward completion.

What to do?

Picking up everything necessary tools, take care of the materials from which your masterpiece will be created. Here you can go in different ways. Materials can be easily and simply purchased at a construction or furniture supermarket, and you will not be denied in special workshops. However, you can always use old improvised things. For example, in a future project, you can easily use old chairs, countertops, or even ordinary wooden boxes. This approach will help reduce the cost of creating a car.

So, let's begin

You already know how to make a VAZ or a Mercedes out of wood, or perhaps some other car, it doesn’t matter. Any construction begins with the creation of a frame. If you have excellent spatial imagination, cutting out the details yourself will not be any problem. However, if such talent is not included in the list of your advantages, contact the services of professionals. Order or find the necessary drawings yourself, and then take them to the furniture workshop. When creating a frame, there should be no problems. Almost everyone has a perfect idea of what a car looks like. Be sure to make sure that the car is comfortable for its future owner. The legs should fit freely under the dashboard, and the steering wheel should not hit the knees. Think over all the small details, and then there will be no limit to delight.

Since you already know perfectly well how to make a car out of wood, it will not be news to you that the parts are well connected with self-tapping screws, and for greater strength they can also be coated with special glue.

Decor and furnishings

How to decorate your brand new car - it's up to you. It depends on the taste and the purposes for which the masterpiece was created. If you have old wheels, you can use them to create a project. You can also make wooden tires, but in this case you will need additional raw materials. Do not be lazy and make the car as realistic as possible, think over the removal system. Install a tape recorder and real seats, and if you wish, you can even attach numbers. All these little things make the car realistic and improve the appearance.

Now you already know how to make a car out of wood from start to finish. When creating a car, pay attention not only to the exterior, but also to what is inside. Decorate the interior with cute little things, without which you cannot imagine your car. Maybe hang an air freshener or cubes on your windshield. Such a car will be an unforgettable gift for any child, and his joy will have no boundaries.

You, of course, will be pleased with the fact that you can now rightfully consider yourself an auto builder. And the cars made of wood are real, because so much passion and love has been invested in them. Every designer will agree that this is worth a lot.

We start work with the manufacture of the trolley. I drill the wheels with a specially converted feather drill from a walnut plate 3-4 mm thick, leaving a certain distance between the centers, equal to the distance between the axles of the wheels of the future car. It is desirable to do this on a drilling machine, because. a crookedly drilled center hole turns around with a beating wheel as it moves.

But I don’t have a drilling machine, so I have to remove the runout on a lathe, which I made from the UAD-72 engine, putting the smallest cartridge on the shaft, which allows clamping 5mm workpieces. I turned the shaft into a cone with a needle file on a running engine. Everything turned out clearly (I didn’t even expect it myself), the cartridge rotates without beating. So, I put the wheel on the mandrel (photo 2.) (included in the Dremel drill accessories kit) and, holding it in the chuck, grind it (photo 3.)

photo 2.

photo.3

I remove the runout, grind the profile on the sidewall of the wheel, designate the tread, grind it.
photo 4.

Turning cutters are the simplest, mainly made of needle files (photo 5.)
photo 5.

The wheels are ready, I take up the platform. In a rectangular blank, I cut grooves for the wheel axles with a ribbon (you can use a hand jigsaw on a square) (photo 6.). I choose the middle with a narrow chisel.

photo 6.

I glue walnut veneer plates over the slots. (photo 7.)

photo 7.

So that the platform does not seem too massive, I remove the excess thickness with a band saw (photo 8., 9.)

photo 8.

photo 9.

I go through the holes with a drill 0.2mm larger than the wheel axles to ensure good rotation. The platform is ready, I'm starting to make wings. I return to the plates from which I drilled the wheels. They will be blanks for the wings (photo 10.).

photo 10.

I file on a ribbon (photo 11.)

photo 11.

I grind the outer (convex) part of the workpiece on grinding machine(photo 12.). I'll tell you a little more about it.

photo 12.

Machine made by himself on the basis induction motor AIM 63A4U2.5 (250 W., 1350 rpm.) At first, I simply put a plywood disk on the motor shaft, to which I glued sandpaper. But ... the dust and the end of the shaft with the nut sticking out of the disk quickly got tired. And changing the sandpaper was a problem. I decided to improve the machine. First bought in service center aluminum plate disc with Velcro (d = 225mm) from a Jet grinder, ordered a bushing from a turner, planted it and the machine was almost ready. The problem with dust was not so difficult to solve with a vacuum cleaner. Having firmly fixed the engine to a permanent place on the desktop, I cut a hole for the disk in the table lid, screwed the nozzle from the vacuum cleaner from below (photo 14.), And made a protective cover from thin plywood on top. The efficiency is simply amazing, dust has no chance to bypass the vacuum cleaner (BOSCH GAS 25). On the side, I attached a quick-release support table (photo 13.) And the machine got a start in life. Now I buy grinding wheels with Velcro from the German company Cora (d = 230mm). They are good quality, wear-resistant and are replaced quickly and conveniently. At the other end of the shaft, I have a wide felt circle with goya paste, for finishing cutters and pieces of iron from planes.

photo 13.

photo 14.

I process the inner (concave) part of the workpiece using a homemade nozzle to grinding machine WorkSharp (photo 15.).

photo 15.

I cut the workpiece lengthwise into two halves using a band saw (photo 16.).

photo 16.

I cycle, grind and glue the resulting wings to the platform (photo 17.), put the wheels in place, check for ease of rotation ... Well, the cart is ready (photo 18.), you can move on.

photo 17.

photo 18.

On a ribbon I cut out chairs for the salon (photo 19.) Well, of course - fitting, processing, grinding with a drill and various nozzles. Well, where are we without this "fascinating" and "creative" work? You know - no way!

photo 19.

Now turn behind the side walls of the cabin. In the course are: ribbon, chisels, drill, etc. The result is on (photo 20.). I try different types of wood, experimenting with color.

photo 20

I adjusted it to the grind. machine block of seats across the width of the platform, glue the sides to it (photo 21.)

photo 21.

I make and glue the cabin ceiling into place (photo 22., 23.) By the way, for gluing, I use TiteBond-II moisture-resistant glue. I've been using it for several years now and am very pleased. It goes without saying that each gluing point is carefully cleaned of traces of glue and cycled.

photo 22.

photo 23.

Now you can glue the back wall of the cab and make the front ("windshield") (photo 24.) back wall cabins on the grinding machine I give the desired shape. I grind, I cycle, I process and for now I put it off.

photo 24.

I take the nose of the machine. Everything is simple here - I create a form using a template from simple tree- so faster and easier (photo 25.)

photo 25.

I glue the hood and give it the desired shape on the section. machine, grind, cycle. (photo 26.)

photo 26.

I glue a radiator to the bow in front, and a partition with a "windshield" in the back (photo 27.).

photo 27.

Before final assembly cabin, you need to make a steering wheel and put it in place, because. after assembly, this will not be possible. The manufacturing technology of the wheel is described above, only the plate is thinner (1.5mm), the drill bit is smaller in diameter (6-7mm) and the axle diameter is (1.5mm). (photo 28.)

photo 28.

Now you can glue both parts of the cabin together, which I do (photo 29.).

photo 29.

I align the side racks in height and prepare the upper slats to close the "windshield" square (photo 30.).

photo 30.

I glue, clean, admire the result (photo 31.) - it already looks like a typewriter.

photo 31.

I cut blanks for the roof of the car (photo 32.)

photo 32.

Now it's time to start making headlights. I grind them on a lathe (photo 33.) You need a solid and dense tree, I choose ebony and boxwood.

photo 33.

In the finished headlights, you need to drill holes for the pins. I do it manually with a drill inserted into a watch screwdriver. First - 1mm, then I ream to 1.5mm (photo 34.)

There is probably no such person who would not like the joy in the eyes of a child and a wooden car for kindergarten or an ordinary yard area will always be the place where you will always find a focused “driver” and “passengers”.

Of course, the ideas for such a car can be very different from each other, but, in any case, there will be a cockpit with a rotating steering wheel and additional places for small “hitchhikers”.

In most cases, any adult who has a set (at least an amateur one) of carpentry tools can make such a design, and we will now tell you more about this, and we also invite you to watch the video in this article on our “automotive” topic.

Lumber machines

materials

Note. Of course, a do-it-yourself wooden car for children should not be too expensive, and even any remnants of lumber after repairs are suitable for this.
However, we will tell you which is better to use, and everything else is up to you.

  • If you are going to assemble such a design for a kindergarten, then you should think about the size, since building a large children's car out of wood means giving almost the entire group the opportunity to use it. It is very convenient in such cases to use OSB (OSB) - oriented strand board, which can be sewn onto a frame made of bars. But at the same time, one should not forget that such material is classified by water resistance and density, so there is OSB-1, OSB-2, OSB-3 and OSB-4.
Marking Degree of water dispersion Strength
OSB-1 Very low Very low
OSB-2 Low Medium
OSB-3 High High
OSB-4 Very high Very high

Table of strength and moisture resistance of OSB

  • Of course, you would not want the structure built by your forces to become unusable after a year - it’s a shame for the craftsmanship, and it’s a pity for the effort, and it’s inconvenient for the kids, therefore, it’s better to choose the appropriate material. In the store you can buy OSB-3, and even if it is not available, you can order it, but OSB-4 is not so easy to find, since it is usually not available for sale - either the price is high, or no one is interested .

I bring to your attention a prefabricated wooden model of a retro car MG TC, from the British company MG Cars specializing in the production of sports cars.
The work is difficult, but you should not be afraid of this. The wooden model of a retro car consists of 42 elements. Such a model will serve as a good interior decoration and take its rightful place on your shelf.

In order to assemble such a retro car with your own hands, you will need the following tools and accessories:

Workplace preparation

As usual, the first thing you need to do is equip your workplace on which you will be working. The rules are not complicated: there should be no extra things on the table, all the tools should be in their places and be at hand. Not everyone has their own desktop, and for sure you have already thought about creating it. Making a table is not difficult - it is more difficult to choose a place for it in the house. A good option- this is a warmed balcony, on which you can start working on crafts at any time. If you have a specially equipped room with a workbench, then you can be said to be lucky. You can read about the preparation of the table in a separate article where I tried to describe in as much detail as possible the entire process of its creation. After you have completed the process of creating a workplace, you can proceed directly to your future crafts.

Choice of plywood

Estimated dimensions of the plywood car model (10 cm x 26.5 cm x 10 cm). The drawing is based on the A3 format, the details can be placed on two sheets of plywood 38x23 cm in size, while the thickness of the plywood should be from 2.5 to 3 mm. Before transferring the drawing to plywood, sand the workpiece with a sandpaper with a large grain, and finish with a fine one. Easier to sand with wooden block skin wrapped. Sand the harvested plywood along the layers, not across. A well-sanded surface should be smooth, perfectly smooth, glossy-matt in the light and silky to the touch. Pay attention to the location of the fibers, knots, dents and other defects. Quality and color.

Transferring the pattern to plywood

You need to translate the drawing accurately and accurately: fix the drawing with the buttons or simply hold it with your left hand. Check if the drawing fits the dimensions. Arrange the individual parts so that the plywood sheet is used as economically as possible. You should not rush, because your future craft depends on the drawing. To speed up the translation process, you can use the technique of quick translation of the drawing, for this I suggest that you read the article: You can download a file with a drawing of a car from plywood at the end of the article.

Cutting a car with a jigsaw

There are many rules for sawing, but you need to be based on the most common ones. First, you should cut out the internal elements, then proceed to sawing out the contour. There is no need to rush when cutting. The main thing is to always keep the jigsaw straight at an angle of 90 degrees when cutting. Saw pieces along precisely marked lines. The movements of the jigsaw should always be smooth up and down. Also, don't forget to watch your posture. Try to avoid bevels and bumps. If you get off the line while cutting, do not worry. Such bevels, irregularities can later be removed with a flat file or “Coarse-grained” skin.

Rest

When sawing, we often get tired. Often fingers get tired as well as eyes, which are always in suspense. At work, of course, everyone gets tired. In order to reduce the load, you need to do a couple of exercises. Exercises you can see here. Do the exercises several times during the work.

Assembly diagram

Detailed assembly diagram:

Assembling the parts of the craft in this work is not very difficult, my 6-year-old son assembled a model of a retro car, with my tips and not much help. Such activities develop fine motor skills of hands, imagination, fantasy and patience is also trained.

After the parts are assembled into one common craft without any problems, then proceed to gluing them.

To give more similarity, you can add a few strokes in the form of lines using an electric burner. It can be very difficult to burn out a pattern beautifully, but here there are not many lines and making them is quite simple. First you need to draw lines with a pencil, then slowly go along these lines with an electric burner. You can read how to work with an electric burner and add patterns in a separate article.

DIY varnishing

A collectible model of a retro car, if desired, can be varnished or painted, it is not necessary to do this, but this will add more individuality to your craft. Try to choose a good and high-quality varnish. Varnish with a special brush, take your time. Try not to leave visible streaks of bubbles and lint from the brush.
