How to properly insulate a metal room. Insulation of the entrance metal door - the correct thermal insulation with your own hands. How to insulate a metal door

Warming metal garage carried out using classic heaters or modern analogues with a unique set of performance properties.

Production technology of modern thermal insulation materials influences the formation of their value. The price factor contributes to the fact that iron garages are most often insulated with foam plastic - despite some shortcomings of this material.

In this case, the cost of insulation of one square meter will be approximately two times lower: when using polystyrene foam, they will amount to $ 20, and if you take modern materials- not less than $40.

Other materials

Among such materials are the following:

Represents liquid form foam. It is characterized by durability (retains properties for more than 40 years), water resistance, high fire resistance.

Belongs to the category liquid heaters. The method of applying astratek is similar to applying paint, and the effectiveness of a layer of insulation with a thickness of only 1 mm is comparable to the thermal insulation properties of the layer mineral wool 50 mm thick.

For applying thermal insulation on one square meter the area will need only 0.5 liters of astratek.

Polyurethane foam (PPU)

When applying PPU, special equipment is used. The service life of this heater is more than 70 years.

Warming from the inside

The walls of a metal garage are best insulated from the inside. The production of works in this case is carried out in a certain sequence.

Frame device

A frame is a structure designed for mounting heat-insulating material on walls.
Before proceeding with your own hands, you must:

  • prepare surfaces, clean walls;
  • make a false partition from drywall, on the frame of which heat-insulating material will be attached.

For the manufacture of the frame, wall-mounted CD-profiles and UD-guides are used. Installation of UD-racks to the floor and ceiling is carried out using dowels in increments of 0.25-0.3 meters. CD-profiles should be installed using special suspensions with a step of 0.6 meters.

The suspensions used for mounting are fixed in the wall every 30 centimeters.

It is to them that drywall is attached, which is a facing layer.

Additional events

The inner side of the garage walls requires special preparation, which involves plastering with a “warm” type of plaster or applying heat-insulating paint to the surface.

Ability to shift the dew point to the outside garage walls allows you to protect them from the negative effects of freezing and excessive moisture. Experts recommend making a forced ventilation system designed for a high intensity of air exchange.

The use of liquid thermal insulation

The use, presented in the form of paint or foamed polyurethane, is among the most popular options.
The variety of paints used provides a choice: thermos paint, isolate, etc.

Liquid foam, which is a foamy mass, is made directly at the construction site using the so-called. foam generator.

The cured foam has the appearance of a hard crust with excellent adhesion.

Fastening foam boards with glue

Attaching polystyrene to glue is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to insulate garage walls from the inside.

When using it, it is necessary to pay increased attention to the issue of cleaning and degreasing metal surfaces.

This measure ensures reliable and durable fastening of the heat-insulating material.

The gaps formed between the sheets are best filled mounting foam. After that, paint can be applied to the surface of the insulation.

When using foam boards, it is necessary to remember about its increased ability to ignite and that during combustion it is released a large number of toxic substances.

Garage Doors

Insulation of a metal garage also includes insulation of garage doors.

Curtain device

It is recommended to make a small door in one of the garage doors, and on the upper edge of the gate to fix a curtain made of thick fabric or polyethylene film with a thickness of at least 0.8 mm, designed to keep part of the heat in the room. But it is better to use transparent plastic, providing sufficient visibility when leaving the garage.

The selected material should be cut into strips of such length that, when fixed above the gate, they are at a distance of 1 cm from the floor level.

The width of the strips can vary from 20 to 30 cm. The strips should be stapled to wooden lath so that between them an overlap of 1.5-2 cm is formed.

Under the action of gravity, the strips will hang evenly, and after a forced deflection, they will return to their original place.

Gate panels

It is recommended to use polystyrene foam for thermal insulation of door panels. From the inside, a crate should be made, which must be filled with foam.

The gaps resulting from the adjoining of the gate must be eliminated with adhesive tape - this will prevent the inflow of cold air. Rubber seals are also suitable for this purpose.

Anti-corrosion protection at the points of contact between the insulation and metal will prevent condensation.

After applying a layer of waterproofing, the frame is installed, which is the basis for future cladding. The frame elements must be coated with a primer to prevent warping and the spread of fungus, and it is recommended to clean the foam layer.
Sheathing can be made from OSB (oriented strand board) or a thin board, and it is better to use heated drying oil as a primer.

Ceiling

For external insulation, you can use paint products.

For internal insulation the following options exist:

  • applying several layers of thermal paint;
  • gluing plates of mineral wool or expanded polystyrene;
  • spraying one of the liquid materials.

Gluing of plates is best done on bituminous mastics. The seams formed when using expanded polystyrene should be treated with a sealant.

The insulation does not require special treatment, unlike, for example, mineral wool, which should be covered with a waterproofing layer to protect it from moisture.

For external insulation of a ceiling made of reinforced concrete slabs, extruded polystyrene foam can be used, which should be glued to bituminous mastic.

To improve the waterproofing characteristics, a roofing material or any roofing film is placed on top of the insulation.

Thermal insulation on the outer side of the roof ensures that there is no moisture inside the garage and ensures that the dew point is transferred.

rafter roofs

Insulation of roofs with a truss system (with one or two slopes) is carried out - depending on the design features - as follows:

  • with a large distance (step) between the rafters, mineral wool is laid between them, and a waterproofing material (with edges of at least 10 cm) and a top coat are placed on top in a continuous layer;
  • with frequent arrangement of rafters, the insulation must be laid under the rafters, and the moisture-proof fabric - above them;
  • in the presence of an attic, the ceiling should be covered with a layer of expanded clay (20-25 cm), covered with waterproofing material and poured with a thin screed.

The metal garage freezes heavily in winter. As a result, the car is difficult to start, and repair work due to the low temperature in the room and is completely impossible. Exist different ways insulation of a metal garage, but not all known materials suitable for this. When choosing a heater, it is important to consider what load the installation will give to the garage structure, as well as how many centimeters the internal area will decrease.

Types of insulation

The process of warming the garage depends on the chosen thermal insulation material. Somewhere installation involves additional costs for lathing and finishing, in some cases, insulation is simply applied to the walls. Since the garage is iron, it heats up in the sun and collects condensation well. Therefore, materials should be chosen the most moisture resistant.

For example, mineral wool is not suitable in this case. It will begin to rot, and the insulation will have to be changed pretty soon.

For an iron garage, the following materials are perfect as a heater:

  • extruded polystyrene foam boards, polystyrene foam or penoizol;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • heat-insulating paint (for example, "Astratek").

Styrofoam durable, resistant to moisture, it is cheap to insulate them, but it has a high flammability. Penoplex is its variety. It is twice as expensive, but the slabs are thinner if the thickness of the walls is important, and also does not require additional waterproofing. Penoplex plates can even insulate the floor, making concrete screed right on it.

Penoizol essentially the same penoplex, only in a balloon. It is twice as expensive and requires special equipment. It is applied to the walls in the form of foam, like PPU. Polyurethane foam (PPU) is more expensive, but there are no seams. Environmentally friendly, non-flammable.

Disadvantages include the need for foam spray equipment and exposure to sunlight.

Heat insulating paints do not require additional finishing walls, since they are also a finishing coating. They are frost-resistant, not afraid of moisture, quickly applied. A layer of paint of 1 mm can replace 5 cm of mineral wool. To create the necessary thermal insulation, it is enough to apply two layers. Such material is very expensive, but it does not take up internal usable space.

It is necessary to insulate not only the walls and ceiling, but also the floor. It is through it that 20% of the heat escapes.

The very insulation of iron garages is carried out exclusively from the inside.

Penoplex and polystyrene

Before warming the surface must be prepared. Remove peeling paint, clean rust. Walls and ceiling are recommended to be painted to protect against corrosion. The color and choice of paint is not important, it will still not be visible under the skin. Therefore, you can save money and buy something inexpensive. If the garage is made of a galvanized profile, then nothing needs to be done.

If the region has frosty winters, then the thickness of the foam should be at least 10 cm, foam - 6-7 cm. A thinner layer will not provide the required thermal insulation. The material is glued to the walls and ceiling with building glue, such as liquid nails. It can also be glued to mounting foam. Within an hour, it will expand, so the plates should be periodically pressed against the walls. All cracks are sealed with mounting foam. To increase the thermal insulation properties, foil can be glued to the plates.

If the foam is obtained in two layers, then one of them can be replaced with double-sided foil-coated isolon.

Next, you need to make a crate. As a frame, you can use the existing metal frame of the garage. The crate is made of wood in steps of 25–30 cm. You can use a galvanized profile, but then it will be more expensive. Insulation should in no case stick out of the crate. As a finish, you can use lining, plywood, moisture-resistant drywall, OSB panels or plastic siding. Gates and doors are insulated in the same way as walls.

polyurethane foam

The surface of the walls of the garage should also be prepared, special attention to oil stains - they should not be. The air temperature in the garage should be at least 10 degrees Celsius. Both walls and ceiling are insulated. PPU is sprayed using special equipment under pressure, somewhat reminiscent of the dyeing process. The components are mixed and at the exit they give the very reaction due to which foam is formed. The material hardens very quickly. The difference between PPU and foam plastic is that it gives additional rigidity to the structure, no glue is required. The thickness of the formed foam should be 3-4 cm. For comparison, this replaces 5 cm of mineral wool.

Another advantage of polyurethane foam is that it does not require a crate. You can cover the top with paint or plaster. The high cost of PPU is offset by savings on glue, lathing and facing material, not to mention the thickness of the walls and the load of the structure.

It is impossible to leave PPU without cladding, since the sun's rays act destructively on it.

Paints "Astratek"

Paint "Astarek" is a mastic that can be applied with a brush or by spraying. After drying, an elastic coating is formed. The paint simultaneously acts as a heater, is used for waterproofing, and has anti-corrosion properties.

A great option for shell garages. For example, it is rather difficult to insulate corrugated material with plates; the construction of an additional frame is required. All this will take even more useful building area. The process of applying heat-insulating paint is the same as conventional paint. The surface needs to be prepared. Apply a layer of 1 mm, the second layer only after the previous one has completely dried. Two layers of insulation is enough. The paint can be applied to walls, ceilings and gates. It does not exert any additional load on the structure of the building.

Material consumption per 1 sq. m is 0.5 liters of paint. Because of its cost, the total cost of insulating the garage will be significant. But you can insulate from the inside with your own hands, without resorting to outside help. All work is carried out quickly, the total amount of space is not reduced. saving others building materials, for example, the absence of glue, battens and cladding. The paint itself is the finish coat.

She is not afraid of moisture, the walls can be washed, and shelves can be attached. Paint "Astratek" can insulate the garage not only from the inside, but also from the outside, which other types of insulation cannot boast of.

Basement insulation

Some garages have a basement, cellar or viewing hole. It will be right to insulate them too. Due to the limited area, it is inconvenient to use mineral wool or polystyrene. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to materials that require construction. additional structures. For example, walls can be insulated with polyurethane foam and Astratek paint. These materials do not require additional waterproofing, which is very important in such premises. But the PPU will need to be painted.

Another option is warm plaster. This is expanded vermiculite or expanded polystyrene granules. This insulation is also a finishing coating, but the walls must be pre-plastered. Expanded clay can be poured onto the floor with a fraction of 5 to 20 mm. The larger version will shrink. The thickness of the coating should be about 10 cm.

You can also fill the floor with crushed stone (10 cm), sand on top (soft layer) and pour bitumen on top.

Floor insulation

If the floor is earthen, then it can also be insulated. To do this, it is necessary to remove the top layer of soil by 15 cm. Next, pour a layer of sand or expanded clay. This is necessary for drainage so that moisture does not accumulate under the insulation, and at the same time it will allow you to level the surface.

Next, foam boards are laid. Sufficient thickness is 5 cm. Additional waterproofing is not required for this material. Next, sand 3–4 cm thick is poured onto the insulation. On top of the structure, it is necessary to mount a frame of reinforcement in two layers of 1 cm each. It is necessary for the screed. Pour cement mortar and let dry.

Instead of a screed, you can put a grooved board. To do this, lay on the drainage wooden logs with a step of 30-40 cm, between them is polystyrene foam or polystyrene. All cracks must be sealed with foam. Attach boards to the top of the joists. As a topcoat, you can put linoleum. It is better to start any warming of the garage from the floor.

Otherwise, doing all the work without damaging the wall decoration will be problematic and inconvenient.

  • The walls of the garage, as a rule, have a small thickness, so they cannot perform protective functions when low temperatures and cold wind.
  • In addition, it is pointless to heat a metal garage, because no matter how warm the room is, it still won’t warm up, but there is a possibility of condensation.

Therefore, the insulation of the garage is a question that is not subject to discussion.

When insulating a metal garage, the main thing is not to overdo it. After all, what is comfortable for a person is not always suitable for a vehicle. Therefore, the garage should not be too hot.

The car, after entering a warm room from frost, is instantly covered with condensate, which has a devastating effect on the body. So thoughtless heating of the garage will not do any good - it will only hurt.

Warming of the room should be carried out in such a way that vehicle was indoors at a positive temperature, while the temperature in the room should not have a big difference with the temperature outside.

The ideal temperature for storing a car in a garage is 5°C. In this case, if the car owner is cold, you can use the heater.

How to properly finish an iron room?

When planning garage insulation, you first need to decide on the type of insulation. To date, two methods of insulation are popular:

  1. internal;
  2. external.

With internal insulation, not only walls should be insulated, but also the floor, roof, gates. To do this, there are several varieties of thermal insulation materials. The choice of material directly depends on the method of fastening.

Most often, for internal insulation of the garage are used:

  • mineral wool;
  • Styrofoam;
  • liquid heaters.

Monavata has a high level of thermal insulation, but it has one serious drawback - vapor permeability, which can disrupt the structure of the insulation and nullify all efforts.

If it was decided to insulate the garage with mineral wool, then it is imperative to perform certain operations on the equipment of vapor and waterproofing.

Warming with mineral wool is carried out in the following sequence:

IMPORTANT! If the plans include roof insulation, then it is recommended to leave the finish until the end of work on the insulation equipment.

Styrofoam in terms of characteristics is in no way inferior to mineral wool. But it is not recommended to use it in rooms where work with combustible materials and flammable equipment is planned, because when the foam ignites, acrid smoke is released.

For those who do not experience financial difficulties, it is recommended to use liquid materials, such as penoizol and polyurethane foam, which fill the space between the racks of the crate.

DIY floor

When choosing a material for floor insulation, it is recommended to proceed from the type of material. Usually, in garages, the floors are made of metal or cement screed. Therefore, the insulation must be chosen taking into account the properties of these particular materials.

The floor is the main fire hazard in the garage, so it is strictly forbidden to use materials with a low fire safety rating. Of the materials offered on the construction market, it is recommended to give preference to polystyrene foam. And done right finishing will hide the insulation from the fire.

  1. Floor insulation begins with cleaning and leveling the base surface. If there are cracks on the floor and they need to be repaired with mortar, the bulges are cut off and cleaned with a construction mesh.
  2. The concrete screed needs to be treated twice with a deep penetration primer.
  3. At the next stage, a layer of floor waterproofing is created, especially if a cellar or viewing hole is equipped in the garage.
  4. Then, using a notched trowel, an adhesive composition is applied to the surface of the screed, and foam boards and firmly attached to the base.

    REFERENCE! In some cases, the foam can be fixed with dowels, but for this you need to prepare holes in advance.

  5. At the final stage, a new screed is poured into which special granules are added to ensure the strength of the surface.

Gates

Garage doors, as a rule, occupy one third of the garage perimeter. That is why, without their high-quality insulation, the thermal insulation of the entire room will be minimal, therefore, when equipping the thermal insulation of the gate, it is necessary to hide all the cracks and prevent severe freezing.

Taking into account the fact that the gate has a gate, its insulation must be carried out separately.

Walls from the inside

The walls of an ordinary metal "box" should be insulated from the inside. For most often used foam in sheets or rolls. This material has a high level of thermal insulation. On the walls it is attached with a special glue.

Insulation with polystyrene foam is an effective, and at the same time quite cheap way. Installation of foam plastic is carried out according to the same technology as floor insulation: first, a crate is made, then thermal insulation is laid and sheathed with cladding.

Roof

The roof, as well as the walls, is most often insulated with foam. If mineral wool is used as thermal insulation, it is fixed with a stapler and hidden under the “false ceiling”.

ATTENTION! The foam is fixed with glue. This is due to the fact that with a different installation method, it will be necessary to make several holes in the roof, and this is unacceptable.

Conclusion

Properly equipped thermal insulation of the garage will make it possible not only to protect the vehicle from rust and premature failure of its systems, but also to independently carry out technical inspection and minor repairs even in the cold season.

A metal garage is a structure used to store vehicles. Depending on the materials used, a garage can be built from brick, concrete, lumber, or metal.

One of the measures to create and maintain an optimal indoor microclimate for the maintenance of equipment is the insulation of a metal garage from the inside.

If metal was used in the construction of the garage, then as a result of construction, a cold building is obtained that can only shelter the vehicle from precipitation and gusts of wind. In this case, there is no question of creating a microclimate that prolongs the terms and improves the operating conditions of transport. In order to improve the indicators that determine the conditions of maintenance and storage, the iron garage is insulated.

There are only two options for wall and roof insulation, according to the type of execution - this is insulation from the outside and insulation from the inside.

As a rule, the insulation of a metal garage is carried out from the inside, and the outer metal surface, serves to protect against rain and snow. However, with the advent of new technologies and materials, this type of work is increasingly being used by individual developers.

Important: to reduce heat loss through surfaces metal walls and roofs, you can use paints with low thermal conductivity!

Materials used for garage insulation

How to insulate a metal garage from the inside is a question that confronts the user when the garage is built, and the effect of its use does not meet the requirements for storage and operation of the vehicle.

For insulation of such structures, as a heat-insulating material, the following can be used: polystyrene, mineral wool, penoizol, polyurethane foam.

How to insulate an iron garage from the inside is decided by each user individually, based on personal preferences, the ability to perform this work on their own and the properties of the material used.

How to paint the walls of the garage for thermal insulation

Paint the metal garage on the outside to reduce the thermal conductivity of the walls and roof. In this case, as already written above, paints with low thermal conductivity are used for insulation from the outside, these are:

  • "Astratek" is a liquid ceramic heat insulator, made on a water basis.
  • "Isollat" - consists of acrylic dispersion, ceramic microgranules, fiberglass, perliate and various additives and fillers.
  • "Korund" - is made on a water basis and consists of ceramic microgranules with various types of additives.

Paints with low thermal conductivity are suitable for indoor and outdoor insulation

Paints of this group are produced for outdoor and indoor use and for various structural elements (walls, floors, ceilings, pipes).

How to insulate a metal garage with your own hands

Before starting work on the insulation of the garage, it is necessary to decide what material will serve as thermal insulation. The selection criteria, in this case, will be the advantages and disadvantages of each of the materials listed above, as well as their cost and the possibility of purchasing at the user's place of residence.

To perform the work, you will need manual and electric tools, thermal insulation, lumber or a metal profile, fasteners (self-tapping screws, bolts, clamps, etc.), materials for waterproofing and vapor barrier building structures, sealing agents (mounting foam and adhesive tape).

When insulating a metal garage from the inside, depending on the material chosen, the work is done differently. Therefore, we will consider several options for insulation, for different building elements of one structure.

To insulate the ceiling, we use mineral wool.

Important: when insulating cold buildings, you need to remember that the greatest amount of heat “leaves” the room through the ceiling!

  • Guides (crate) are mounted on the ceiling. It can be lumber or metal profile.
  • The crate is laid in increments equal to the width of the insulation boards.
  • Lay down a layer of waterproofing. To do this, you can use roofing material or polyethylene.
  • Mineral wool is placed between the guides, fastening is done with mastic or glue.
  • The seams between the plates are sealed.
  • A vapor barrier layer is laid, along which exterior finish(drywall, lumber).

Similarly, insulation can be performed using foam.

For wall insulation we use penoizol or polyurethane foam

Depending on the type of penoizol, work can be performed in the following sequence:

  1. When used in liquid form:
  • A frame made of metal or wood is mounted on the surface of the walls.
  • A fine reinforcing mesh is stretched over the frame elements.
  • The prepared surface is filled with penoizol.
  • A layer of vapor barrier is laid.
  • Fine finishing of the wall surface is carried out (plaster, drywall, lumber, different kinds plastic).

Important: when insulating with the use of penoizol, a prerequisite is the laying of a vapor barrier layer, which ensures that moisture is cut off from the inside of the room.

  1. When used in the form of slabs, the work is carried out, as in the case of wall insulation using mineral wool. Penoizol sheets are attached to glue or adhesive mastic.

Recommendation: The use of polyurethane foam, when doing the work yourself, is a difficult task, for which special equipment is required. It is recommended, to perform these works, to involve specialized organizations or specialists with skills in working with this material.

  • For insulation from the outside, we use the Astratek heat-insulating polymer coating.
  • The metal of the walls and roof is cleaned of foreign objects and pollution elements.
  • The surface is free of rust.
  • It is being degreased.
  • With the help of a brush or a roller, the used polymer coating is applied in two layers.

Video: PPU metal garage insulation step by step

As can be seen from the examples above, doing the work on insulating a metal garage with your own hands is not a difficult and accessible job for any user. And the availability of a variety of materials used for warming cold buildings allows you to choose exactly the material that meets the requirements for it in technical and operational terms, as well as in accordance with the financial capabilities of the user.

A metal garage is the easiest option to hide a car from bad weather and intruders. Naturally, it is necessary to make it warm in order to make it comfortable to stay in the "stall" of your favorite vehicle. How to insulate an ordinary metal unheated garage? Now it is customary to perform insulation with classic materials. Although the construction market is ready to offer a lot of new products that have excellent thermal insulation characteristics. Therefore, the problem of warming a metal garage is easily solved. But how to do it correctly, how to perform insulation - we will analyze in more detail.

Advanced motorists who decide to do it with their own hands prefer to use the following insulator options as a material:

  1. Polyurethane foam. To apply PPU on the surface, special equipment is required. However, only such material allows you to really perform high-quality insulation, and for many decades. This is The best way achieve the set goal.
  2. Penoizol. So called liquid foam. It is also durable, it is not afraid of moisture, high temperatures.
  3. Astratek. Another liquid thermal insulator applied with a brush. A millimeter layer of astratek retains as much heat as thick mineral wool. Disadvantage: high consumption (about half a liter per square meter of metal).

Each of the listed materials for garage insulation is quite effective, but usually the owner of the car is forced to abandon it because of the high cost. Therefore, much more often a metal garage is insulated using the most available material, namely, foam.

Insulation of the walls of a metal garage

Consider how to insulate a metal garage from the inside, and completely with your own hands. All work must be performed according to a certain scheme. First you need to make a frame, inside which then the insulator plates will be laid.

To begin with, you should take care of the availability of a certain tool. It is impossible to do without such a thing as insulation own garage, without a drill, screwdriver, hacksaw, grinder. When everything is collected, what is needed, you can begin the process of warming.

First, you need to mount the frame from the guides and the profile, using the material that is taken for the manufacture of drywall partitions. The guides are fastened with dowels, and the profile is fixed to them with special suspensions.

After garage insulation, it is not necessary to use drywall for facing thermal insulation; asbestos fiber is also suitable for this purpose. The material perfectly resists fire, but is fragile. Because of this, it is required to carry out a distance between the racks a little less.

After completing the installation of the frame, a heater should be placed between the racks. We recommend using a classic heat insulator - glass wool or mineral wool slabs. This material perfectly retains heat, it does not ignite. But more cheap option- Styrofoam, refers to combustible substances that release toxic components when ignited. If the step between the uprights is made according to the width of the mineral slabs, their laying will be simple and will not require additional adjustment. The final stage of insulation is fixing the vapor barrier material with adhesive tape and installing the cladding.

Styrofoam is recognized as the cheapest material that allows you to insulate the walls of a metal garage from the inside. Before using glue to fix this material, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the internal surfaces of the building from rust and the slightest dirt, then by all means degrease the metal. So the fastening will be better. When the foam sheets are already pasted, it is advisable to blow out the gaps between them from a can of polyurethane foam. Next, you can close the insulation layer with any finishing material.

Metal garage door insulation

Having decided to make the insulation of the metal garage of high quality, you should make sure that the gate does not let the cold into the room. Experienced motorists recommend doing in the gate leaf front door, then you do not have to fully open them at the entrance. In addition, a special curtain should be arranged from the inside in front of the gate to prevent heat from escaping from the room.

An excellent material for organizing the task is transparent plastic or plastic film (certainly thick). Having cut the selected version of the protective curtain into long strips, they are fastened with a stapler to a wooden rail fixed above the gate from the inside. Each fixed strip must be one and a half centimeters on its neighbor, then when the car leaves, they will deviate and then return back, preventing heat from escaping.

However, only the curtain is not enough, the door leaf itself is also required to be insulated with a protective material. Usually, foam is used for this purpose, which can be fixed to the metal using glue.

You can sheathe the foam outside with anything:

  • clapboard;
  • plywood;
  • plastic.

To prevent the penetration of cold through the gaps around the perimeter of the gate, a rubber seal is used. To prevent condensation from appearing later, it is desirable to treat the metal at the place where the rubber is glued with any anti-corrosion compound.

Ceiling insulation in a metal garage

When solving the problem of how to insulate an iron garage, you should definitely take care of the thermal insulation of the ceiling. It needs to be insulated not only from the inside, but also from the outside. Only then will it be possible to obtain the desired effect. If the outside is traditionally insulated with paint, then there are several ways to work from the inside:

  • multi-layer painting of the ceiling with a heat-insulating agent;
  • spraying a liquid heat insulator;
  • the use of mineral wool or expanded polystyrene plates.

Choosing the last option, as the cheapest, you should fix the plates bituminous mastic. When using expanded polystyrene, you will additionally have to process the seams with some kind of sealant. When using mineral wool, remember that it absorbs moisture, so you need to protect its layer with waterproofing.

At rafter system the device of the roof, its insulation depends entirely on the design. When there is a sufficient gap between the rafters, the insulator plates should be mounted between them, and the waterproofing should be fixed from above. It is desirable to carry out such work at the construction stage - it is easier and better to insulate the room.

If the step between the rafters is small, insulation should be laid under them. When there is an attic, it is most practical to fill it with expanded clay, and then lay waterproofing material on top. The final stage of such insulation is the pouring of a cement screed. However, good thermal insulation interior this will not be achieved - it is required to perform internal work. It all depends on the material that will be used:

  1. Foil polyethylene should be fixed with rails directly to the ceiling. Such material perfectly repels moisture. To get the maximum effect, you need to nail plywood or fiberboard over the slats.
  2. Mineral wool. First, waterproofing must be glued to the ceiling, then the crate must be mounted. Lay mineral wool slabs in its gaps, protect them with a vapor barrier film and sheathe them with lining.
  3. Styrofoam. Glue the tiles to the ceiling using tile adhesive. To improve thermal insulation, it is recommended to first glue a waterproofing sheet to the ceiling.

Floor insulation

Basically, the question of how to insulate a metal garage has been sorted out by us. It remains to consider additional possibilities of protection from the cold. Helps improve thermal insulation. Since usually its surface is made of metal or concrete, we will consider options for insulating these materials.

The most affordable now is to insulate the floor with foam:

  • First, you need to carefully level the surface, then clean it, eliminating all cavities or cracks with putty.
  • For concrete pavement, it must first be primed twice.
  • If there is a pit or cellar in the garage, waterproofing is required.
  • Apply glue directly to the floor, as well as to the foam plastic, with a notched trowel, lay the slab and press it carefully.
  • It is allowed to use special dowels, but then you have to drill the floor.
  • The screed completes the floor insulation. Additional strength will be provided by the addition of extruded granules to the solution.

Garage cellar insulation

If there is a cellar or viewing hole they also need to be carefully insulated.

cellar ceiling

Before insulating the cellar ceiling, mount a waterproofing layer on it. Then you can already glue the foam to the ceiling. Perfect option insulation - liquid filler, although its use is much more expensive.

cellar walls

Wall insulation material must be resistant to mold and moisture. The best way- expanded polystyrene. Its plates should be mounted on the crate or directly to the walls. When doing insulation work, do not forget about wiring. It is required to be laid in a metal sleeve or to fix the box.

cellar floor

Since the floor in the garage cellar is usually unpaved, it is better to fill it with bitumen. First, crushed stone should be poured, then sand, tamp everything down and pour bitumen on top. If the floor is reinforced concrete, it is better to cover it with roofing material over sawdust, and then pour cement screed on top.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a few tips:

  • If the garage is separate from other buildings, external thermal insulation is also necessary.
  • warming flat roof, it is required to organize a slope that allows water not to accumulate.
