Step-by-step kitchen renovation from a to z. Do-it-yourself kitchen renovation: recommendations from professionals on how to do a kitchen renovation on your own How to start a kitchen renovation

After moving to new apartment“We decided to make repairs in the kitchen first of all, waited for the New Year holidays and away we go. My hands have been itching to work for a long time.

The usual one is 6 squares, I have not experienced repairs myself before, except for painting the walls and gluing tiles to the ceiling. An external refrigerator is a rather good solution for storing potatoes, vegetables and preparations - leave it.

One wall is tiled almost to the floor. I suppose there is no such person, born in the USSR, who would not see this tile.

The wallpaper turned out to be oilcloth, exactly the one that is laid on the table.

We searched the Internet for information and found the option that was chosen as the reference:

  • one wall - washable wallpaper;
  • the rest - for plastering, putty and painting;
  • floors - laminate;
  • ceiling - mdf panels with built-in lamps;

And a fascinating process began, as they say in this case - to break not to build.

About 13 potato bags of garbage came out, dead cockroaches were swept out of all the cracks - I really believed the phrase cockroaches "left the city." They will not be in the photo, otherwise suddenly someone is looking at the report and eating at the computer.

Then there was the day of the ax - he hit the walls with an ax, beat off the paint, the paint soldered into the wall and did not succumb to other means of cleaning. I freed the walls from paint in order to even out the crooked, skewed walls with a layer of plaster. The occupation is very gemorno, now I would not bother so much, but applied the plaster directly to the paint, or at least to the notches (as in the previous photo).

We foam everything and everything in order to exclude cold and passages for cockroaches, in general, we paid considerable attention to sealing the kitchen from cockroaches.

I started to weave a web of future wiring, I really liked the expensive snap-on terminal blocks for 3,5,7 connections.

They uprooted the door jamb, it took a long time to tinker with the fact that the frame was nailed to wooden bars and getting close to the nails to cut was unrealistic. Pulling out the bars is also unrealistic, because. the thickness of the wall between the kitchen and the room is not brick, not even half a brick, but the end of the brick, which is fraught with damage to the wall - the wall facing the room was slightly damaged.

I laid the cable, checked it, close the strobe.

I level the wall as far as I can, apply a level, look where it is not back to back. In some places, the discrepancy at the 1.5 meter level reached 2 cm.

The hardest part of the renovation was installing the door.

Firstly, due to the lack of experience and the door frame, which must be cut in width door leaf at an angle of 45 degrees, and also missed the size of the door - I had to expand the doorway. The door was bought "at random", I measured the old canvas was 66cm, the new 70cm. - it seemed that there was 4 cm - it would fit. The plus, of course, is that any furniture will normally fit into 70 cm. AT general assembly and installing the door can take a lot of time, but in the future I will look for a set of door frame and door leaf so that I don’t have to cut the frame myself or order installation from specialists.

Plastering, not difficult, but a lot. Constantly kneading and smearing, smearing, smearing, leveling and again. A little steamy in hard-to-reach places. Here the principle is, the smoother it is now, the easier it is at the next stages - putty, tiles, wallpaper. In general, it is better to plaster in two stages: the main one is drops, holes and rough irregularities, and then the finishing one - the purpose of which is to level it into a plane, but I tried to do it in one layer, because. the time for drying the plaster can take two days or more.

It was plastered and almost dried up, at this time while we are doing the ceiling and ceiling wiring, we removed the sovdep chandelier. Profile by level, fasten to the mustache, or whatever these fasteners are called.

View from floor to ceiling: MDF panel with lamps, a fairly simple stage of work. They didn’t take PVC, it looks like it’s cheap, and I don’t like plastic, but this is just my subjective opinion. In the second picture, this is what is left behind the scenes, i.e. between panel and ceiling.

In the photo you can see the clamping terminal, a very convenient thing, but also not cheap. ends stranded wires crimped into limit switches, previously did not know about the existence of such)) No soldering, tinning of wires.

And outside the window, the kids are playing hockey, and the kids are just poking around on the ice.

Next, the stage of putty, took me exactly a day. I will characterize puttying as the most creative process, since it requires experience, endurance and even walls, if you don’t have to try hard to glue the wallpaper, and if it’s the finishing one, then you’ll have to sweat. On the zone - a sink, a stove, applied, then a ceiling plinth.

I want to note that I devoted a lot of time to the ceiling plinth - it would seem ..

And it includes:

Trimming corners under 45gr. so that it fits nicely in the corners;

Sticking to the wall, ceiling

Puttying holes (especially important for me because of uninvited guests)

After that, painting the skirting boards and covering the holes with paint, so that the skirting boards have a finished look and match the color with the wall.

Cleaning the ceiling of paint, but it is better not to smear, otherwise the texture on the panel is erased along with it. Ceiling skirting boards it is better to take it wider, it is easier to get around the uneven walls with them.

I paint the walls with water dispersion paint.

We lay the laminate, here it is relatively quick and simple work, it is important not to make a mistake in size here and it is even more important not to confuse which side to saw off, otherwise you can cut it so that the locks will not fit later. I took the substrate not in rolls, but in sheets of 6 mm, it solves a flat floor so that later the laminate does not shake, it shook, we had to disassemble half the floor, pour the screed - not a very good moment at the finishing stage. The wallpaper on the plastered wall lay down for a sweet soul.

It was possible to start the repair, sending the whole family to their historical homeland. In order not to be so boring to do repairs, I decided to take pictures along the way. Maybe someone will benefit from my experience.

So, it WAS: an ordinary smoky gray room with an area of 6.5 square meters. m (I forgot to take a picture, sorry).

I wanted something cool and lofty, but I was short on money.

The first two days I studied the assortment of Ikea, Leroymarlen and Ob and tried to compare my desires and possibilities. The results were not very pleasing, so for a start I decided to dismantle everything old.

To start the repair, you need to disassemble everything old, unscrew it and drag it into the next room.

Took out 5 heavy bags to the trash. Unfortunately, the elevator didn't work.

Tried to get close to the wiring to make everything the way I need it.

Finally managed to clear the last wall of wallpaper. There was a war for every centimeter: a hellish mixture of glue, which becomes terribly slippery from water, left me practically without hands.

This wealth of textures of a peeled wall, on which time has done a great job, inspires me terribly. If I lived alone, I would ask the designer to decorate such walls.

He began to ditch holes under 4 - all the neighbors came running. When I remember, I shudder.

The ceiling has already been done, the walls and furniture remain. I decided to leave the working area above the stove in this form.

And the ceilings are crooked. The door frame is level.

Having cleared the window sill of paint, I saw such an amazing color that my hand did not rise back to paint over. And I will choose the color of the laminate to match the color of the window sill.

I could not find a lamp suitable in size and price in stores. Refurbished an old chandelier. Here is the result.

Fitted new doors to the mezzanine

I'm starting to laminate the floor.

The most interesting thing is that the last stage of the repair turned out to be the most protracted and costly. Hanging furniture, connecting a washing machine, shelves, hooks and other little things took more time and money than the repair itself.

To be honest, the impetus for the start of the repair was the dream of such a faucet (mode switching, retractable sprayer) and a sink.

This is what our kitchen looked like after the renovation:

Concrete carefully washed and covered with wax from Ikea

Wallpaper decided not to glue, painted the walls water-based paint. From above covered with mother-of-pearl enamel from Leroy. Feels good to the touch and washes well.

The kitchen is the main place in any home. Here, most often, all family members gather for a meal. Therefore, it is so important to create an atmosphere of comfort that encourages a calm, unhurried meal for pleasant communication. What is the right way to start a kitchen renovation? Its arrangement should be approached with the utmost responsibility. Especially if it is decided not to involve specialists in the repair, but to do the work with your own hands.

Stages of kitchen renovation

The initial stages of repair can be divided as follows:

  1. To endure the idea of repair, to think over every little thing, for which you need to clearly understand what you want to get as a result.
  2. Make a decision to bring your idea to life.
  3. Get to work, start making repairs. The first step is the main one.

The process of doing repairs yourself is not as scary as it seems at first. Difficulties will certainly arise, but everything can be solved. In addition, what will be the satisfaction from the work done with your own hands, when you get the conceived masterpiece! Now from the lyrics - to the repair process.

Preparatory work

The kitchen has many functions. As a rule, the area of this space is limited. Therefore, it is very important to correctly arrange all pieces of furniture and household appliances to make it convenient to use. How to start a kitchen renovation correctly, what should be considered first of all?

When cooking, the kitchen will always be humid. Therefore, the material for finishing surfaces and furniture must be moisture resistant, which are easy to clean. Do right choice difficult without professionals.

  • First you need to draw up a diagram of the future kitchen. The sketch will allow you to decide on color solution premises, the correct arrangement of furniture and other items. This will help in choosing accessories.
  • Calculation necessary materials. This stage should be entrusted to specialists. It is necessary to think carefully about plumbing and sewer system, location of electrical wiring, .

Main stages of work

If replacement of door and window openings is required, they begin with the dismantling and replacement of windows. If necessary, create new partitions. Walls, floor and ceiling are aligned.

The walls are usually decorated with washable wallpaper or tiles. tiled.

After all the work has been done, the surfaces are finished and thoroughly dried, you can install household appliances and furniture.

Important! Particular attention should be paid to proper lighting. A high ceiling can be decorated with multi-level lighting fixtures. If the ceiling is low, spot lighting will do.

Separately, it is necessary to create lighting above the working area. Ideally, install the backlight on the bottom of the hanging cabinets. The dining area also requires additional lighting. Here you can stop at the wall lamp.

The last step will be the placement of accents, for which various accessories are used, which are designed to make the kitchen individual and cozy.

When planning a room, one should not forget that the main “backbone” of the kitchen is made up of three items: a stove for cooking, a sink and a refrigerator. They should be in every kitchen. Moreover, the convenience of using the premises depends on their location. These items should be close.

For people who have finally decided to stop living in the monotonous old walls, it comes to mind to make a major alteration of the entire kitchen. There are some dangers here. In order not to make common mistakes, you should figure out where the repair begins, what should you pay attention to in the first place? The main stages of its implementation in more detail.

  • The beginning of the repair is always very long and laborious. It is not too interesting to uproot old floors with your own hands, peel off wallpaper blackened from old age, and raise the flooring. The main thing at this time is to be patient and take out all the garbage. More pleasant work to create a new space will follow.
  • First of all, electrical wiring is created. Marking the location of sockets and switches is done. If you do not do this right away, then it will be difficult to add another element in the right place.

The main places where sockets are required:

  1. electric stove;
  2. hood;
  3. wall near the working area;
  4. a place for a TV;
  5. location of the microwave, dishwasher;
  6. fridge.
  • Finishing is always done from top to bottom, from ceiling to floor. Before you start finishing the ceiling, you need to decide on the type of hood and its location.

There can be two options here:

  1. convector installation;
  2. ventilation duct device.

The second option is great for creating two-level ceilings that allow you to hide the ventilation pipe. The best option for creating a ceiling is. It is easy to use, allows you to realize any form.

  • Wall decoration requires a primer on all old surfaces. Corners are recommended. They are mounted on plaster. Be sure to plaster cavities, cracks.

High-quality putty and primer surfaces form the basis good repair kitchens.

  • Work area layout. It can be tiled or hung. When decorating a wall with tiles, it is very important to withstand the following parameters:
  1. the horizontal level of the wall must be perfect;
  2. angles should be exactly 90 degrees;
  3. choose the right height for the design of the working area. You should focus on the height of the plate.

Advice! In places where you plan to hang wall cabinets in the kitchen, you can save a little on material.

  • Wall preparation. It includes putty work. It all depends on the chosen design material. Under the wallpaper does not require too much layer. And if the choice fell on, then the work should be done most carefully. The surface is then sanded.
  • The next step is to cover the floor. The ideal material for this is. You can lay it with your own hands, the process should proceed slowly, carefully. Here you should also maintain a horizontal level. This is very important, otherwise the furniture will not stand up straight.

All dirty work is done, you can start finishing.

Common kitchen renovation mistakes

Starting repairs in the kitchen with their own hands, many make the same mistakes. They subsequently turn into the inconvenience of operating the kitchen space. To avoid this and do everything right, you should familiarize yourself with some of the nuances.

  1. When determining the work surface and floors, it is worth choosing non-porous materials. Otherwise, cleaning will be difficult. Smooth tiles are much easier to clean. Especially not worth doing wooden floors.
  2. Do not create bulky air ducts. They do not look aesthetically pleasing and take up useful space. If the stove is located far from air vent, it is better to choose a hood that does not need an air duct.
  3. An unimportant decision - a lot of seams on the work apron. When pasting this wall with wallpaper, you should think about protection, for which you need to choose a holistic material. For example, large glass.
  4. In a large kitchen, you should not make a work surface along one wall. This creates additional inconvenience when cooking. It is better to create a U-shaped zone, where all the necessary devices are located within walking distance.
  5. Narrow aisles between furniture. This prevents free movement in the kitchen and opening drawers and cabinets. Keep a distance of at least 1.2 meters. Furniture should be chosen with slightly protruding handles, especially in corner cabinets.
  6. Replacing hanging drawers with open shelves. This gives the space airiness, lightness. But at the same time, it causes a lot of problems for cleaning and constant maintenance of order. Floor furniture is more convenient with drawers than with shelves.
  7. A glossy facade is beautiful and elegant, but completely impractical. Cleaning will be required daily.
  8. Not enough space for small household appliances can be a big problem. It is worth considering that the hostess uses a lot of small appliances. They require free location and access to electricity.
  9. Heavy hanging cabinets can only be hung on the main wall. Plasterboard partitions simply will not withstand them.
  10. The ideal location of household appliances is at the level of a person’s belt.
  11. Lack of lighting is the main problem of the kitchen. Lighting should be multi-level. It is worth conveniently placing the switches so that you do not have to go to them through a dark room.

How to choose an interior style

So that the kitchen does not stand out from the rest of the rooms, it must be done in the same style. The most popular options are:

  • modern high-tech;
  • baroque;
  • minimalism;
  • classic style;
  • modern.

How to start a kitchen renovation? Of course, with the choice of style. AT classic interiors natural materials are used, the floors are covered with parquet. Art Nouveau and high-tech styles are more suitable for modern youth; glass and plastic products are used here. Baroque is dominated by carved furniture, but such items are more suitable for a living room or bedroom.

Provence style is considered an economical option for interior design. Simple materials prevail here. The walls and ceiling are covered with light pastel colors. There are floral patterns on the furniture. In Provence, it is not advisable to use bulky parts, such as heavy textile curtains or massive chandeliers. The kitchen, decorated in this style, is simple and romantic.

Ceiling

Many users do not know where to start renovating a kitchen in an apartment. You can try to transform the ceiling, paste over the surface with photo wallpaper or make a complex structure from a metal profile and drywall sheets. There is another option - stretch ceiling, but such elements are made by professional builders. With your own hands, you can finish from polystyrene foam boards or fix polyvinyl chloride panels on the frame. Consider a few simple options ceiling decoration.

Coloring

To perform such work, you do not need special knowledge, just a roller and a can of paint. As a dye, a water-based emulsion or latex materials are used here. Before work, the base surface is cleaned, then chips and cracks are repaired. The paint is applied in two layers, the first time along long walls, the second in a perpendicular direction.

Wallpapering

Waterproof materials are chosen as a coating. When using thick trellises, there is no need to level the base. Such products hide the irregularities of the base surface, give the ceiling a unique appearance.

Wallpaper sticker is considered one of the cheapest options for decorating the ceiling. Anyone can do this job. It is enough to cut the panels of the required length and apply glue to the surface. Glue the tapestries by joining with the combination of the pattern. In places where the walls come into contact with the ceiling, a decorative stroke is glued.

Floor

How to start a kitchen renovation step by step? It's best to start repair work with flooring repairs. When decorating a room in the Provence style, you can use a plank wooden floor or artificial analogues, such as linoleum, laminate or ceramic tiles. Whatever material is chosen, the surface of the products should be light.

    Save

Tile

Ceramic tiles have a lot of advantages. These are durable water-resistant products with abrasion-resistant surface. The only thing that the tile is afraid of is the fall of heavy objects. Not everyone can lay this flooring option with their own hands. To carry out such work, you will need skills and the availability of a special tool (grinder, tile cutter).

The tile flooring is cold, so a warm floor is arranged in the kitchen or thick rugs are laid. Laying tiles in the kitchen will cost a decent amount, so many users refuse this option.

    Save

Laminate

For flooring in the kitchen, you can choose a laminate, but preference should be given to moisture-resistant products. Ordinary materials are not suitable for this purpose, because they have a small coefficient of moisture resistance. Laminate panels are laid on the base with locking joints. To prevent the appearance of squeaks under the laminate, a substrate made of cork or other materials is laid.

It is noted that moisture-resistant models of this material can withstand 6 hours of exposure to moisture. For ordinary products, such an influence can be detrimental - flooring deformed, mold and fungus appear in its lower part.

    Save

Linoleum

Most a budget option flooring in the kitchen. Linoleum provided in the store in a wide range colors and shades. Commercial models of such rolled products are characterized by high strength and wear resistance. Ordinary linoleum is short-lived; when the surface breaks, it needs to be replaced.

The main disadvantage of rolled products is considered to be a small thickness, which requires careful preparation of the base surface. To level the floor in this room, a self-levelling mixture is used. This solution can be laid with your own hands. The dry mixture is mixed with water using an electric drill with a whisk. The finished solution is leveled on the surface with a toothed roller with a long handle.

Walls

Where to start repairing the kitchen with your own hands? The maximum area in any room is occupied by walls, so they are finished first. The surface of the enclosing structures in the kitchen should be easily washed from dirt. In accordance with this requirement, finishing materials are selected. The most used products for decorating the walls of a Provence-style kitchen are:

  • ceramic tile;
  • decorative panels made of PVC or MDF;
  • waterproof paint;
  • wallpaper.

AT modern interiors tiles are rarely used to decorate walls. This is an expensive, outdated material that is used to decorate the work area. PVC panels, as well as products from MDF and wood particle boards produced in the form of sheets overall dimensions 1.2*3 meters. Such elements can be solid or type-setting. The latest materials are rigidly fixed on a crate made of wood or a metal profile.

The use of panels is not without drawbacks. First of all, this reduction free space in the kitchen due to the thickness of the frame. The best option wall finishes are considered to be MDF boards or moisture-resistant PVC products with a protective film on the surface, as well as laminated organite made from chipboard. All products have a small thickness (3 mm), which allows them to be fixed on the surface using an adhesive mixture.

For decorative wall decoration, only waterproof types of paint are used, because such a coating will not lose its original appearance after washing. The substrate must be thoroughly cleaned before painting. Then fill the cracks and level the wall with putty. If this is not done, then the sunlight coming from the windows will indicate all the existing irregularities. This work should be carried out by a qualified specialist, which will entail additional financial costs. It should be noted that monochromatic paint looks boring. Such a background will not be able to decorate the interior.

wallpaper sticker

How to make repairs in the kitchen with your own hands with minimal effort? by the most in a simple way decoration is considered to be a wallpaper sticker on the walls. Rolled materials can be laid by everyone, such products well hide all wall defects. For pasting the kitchen, vinyl is most often used. roll materials or glass fiber. good choice 3D wallpapers will become, but working with them is much more difficult than with conventional counterparts.

  • We free the room from furniture, remove the chandelier, sockets and switches.
  • We dismantle decorative trim ceilings and walls, remove the old flooring.
  • We collect and take out garbage, clean the surface from dust and dirt.
  • We apply plaster on the walls, level the base of the floor.
  • We make strobes in building envelopes, we lay wiring. We drill holes for sockets and switches. In some cases, we ditch the walls for laying engineering communications, we make recesses for the outlet of pipes for plumbing equipment.
  • We carry out ceiling finishing.
  • We lay decorative materials on the walls.
  • We install flooring.

Experts recommend carrying out repairs from top to bottom, which will avoid contamination of other structures. First of all, the ceiling is painted, then they move on to the walls, the flooring is laid at the very end. When installing a floor made of laminate or linoleum, such materials are installed last. If the walls are finished with wallpaper, then you can lay the floor, and then the decor of the enclosing structures. When sticking wallpaper, no dust is released, in addition, the glue is well washed off the floor covering.

Not only cosmetic, but also most of overhaul kitchens are quite capable of being made by the owners themselves. After all, most of the work does not require the help of qualified specialists. However, some subtleties, which we will talk about today, still exist.

Do you have an idea and have your own kitchen design project already in your head? Before putting it into practice, think again whether it fits a particular room:

  • be sure to think over the lighting system in advance: even for a small kitchen, it is advisable to install not one hanging ceiling, but several spot ceiling lights; also provide separate lighting for the working and dining areas;
  • even after the highest quality repairs, the ceiling, walls and kitchen furniture will very quickly become covered with grease and soot if there is no high-quality ventilation; be sure to check its work, and if necessary, invite a housing office employee to clean it;
  • keep in mind that when demolishing even part of the main wall, you will need special permission; but you have the right to dismantle a non-load-bearing wall even without notifying the supervisory authorities;
  • you will also need to take a special permit when transferring a gas riser.

The procedure for performing work during the overhaul

When carrying out a major overhaul, the first thing to do is all the rough work:

  • barriers are being dismantled and doorways;
  • the old finish is removed from the walls and ceiling;
  • old floors are removed and the old concrete screed is repaired; then the floors are leveled with a concrete screed or fiberboard or chipboard is laid on them;
  • window panes are installed;
  • if it is provided by the project, partitions are installed;
  • walls are shredded for electrical wiring, a cable is laid and wiring is done (switches and socket boxes are installed later);
  • if necessary, water pipes and heating batteries are replaced.

At the second stage of the overhaul, the following is performed:

The third stage of work includes:

  • painting ceilings or installing tensile structures;
  • laying laminate or linoleum;
  • installation of doorways and doors;
  • wallpaper sticker or wall painting;
  • installation of ceiling and floor plinths;
  • installation of door frames;
  • assembly and arrangement of furniture and equipment.

Floor replacement

If the installation of double-glazed windows, electrical wiring, heating system and water supply pipes are best entrusted to specialists, then the floors in the room can be replaced independently. To do this, all furniture is taken out of the room and skirting boards are dismantled, old linoleum or wooden floors. Next, the surface is checked for the presence of mold or fungus. Damaged elements are best removed completely before the concrete screed.

Since even in a small kitchen a decent amount of furniture and appliances are installed, the floors must be as durable as possible. Furniture doors installed on uneven floors may warp. Yes, and cooking with an unevenly installed stove is problematic - when frying, the oil will flow only in one direction, which will lead to burning the food. The same coating as a laminate in the presence of distortions is not allowed to be laid at all.

The ideal option to level the subfloor bulk screed . After elimination in concrete screed using a cement-sand mixture of all defects (large cracks and holes), all construction debris is removed from the floor. With the help of a laser level, marks are placed in the corners of the room. Next, the floors are poured with a mixture at the highest mark height. Spreading, the mixture lies exactly horizontally, so subsequent alignment is not required.

You can also level the floors with the help of a more budgetary sand-cement mixture . To do this on the floor with building level beacons (mortar slaps) are placed at a distance of 60 cm, on which guides are fixed. After the solution has dried, it is poured onto the floor concrete mix and is leveled by beacons using a rule (a special long rail).

Replacement of communications

It is better to hide all pipes in decorative strobes or drywall boxes, leaving hatches for inspection. When replacing heating systems and water pipes it is best to use reinforced polypropylene . It also, like metal-plastic, does not form scale, but is more durable and able to withstand even serious impacts. After heat welding of polypropylene, a strong monolithic connection is created, which can even be concreted into walls or floors.

Modern cast iron the batteries look quite attractive. They are quite durable and reliably store heat. However, their cost is quite high.

Aluminum
or bimetallic radiators quickly give off heat and have a long service life, however, they are an excellent sound resonator - in the room where they are installed, all sounds from neighboring apartments will be heard. You can muffle the noise by installing sound-absorbing screens on the batteries, pasted over with mineral wool and fabric.

Under each powerful electrical appliance (oven, washing and dishwasher) should be highlighted separate line and RCD . Modern powerful electrical appliances require reliable wiring that has an elevated melting point and heat capacity. All these requirements are met copper . aluminum wires, once widely used in old buildings, are practically no longer used.

Leveling walls and ceilings

If the walls and ceilings are too uneven, it will be much cheaper and faster to level them with drywall. To finish the kitchen, you should choose only moisture resistant material with GKLV marking. When arranging multi-tiered ceilings, thinner arched drywall is used.

However, the area of a small kitchen after installing a drywall frame can be significantly reduced. In this case, you can stick drywall directly on the walls. To do this, beacons are installed on the wall (the principle of their arrangement is similar to leveling the floor according to the beacons described above).

For large irregularities, it is better to glue small squares of drywall to strengthen over the beacons. After the installation of drywall, all seams between the sheets are leveled with putty, and then primed.

hang heavy kitchen furniture on the drywall sheets, do not do it. Kitchen cabinets are fixed on long anchors, metal tires, planks or wooden mortgage bars pre-installed inside the plasterboard frame, attached to the wall with anchor bolts.

Arched structures and suspended plasterboard ceilings

For finishing low ceilings, you can use matte or glossy stretch structures. They not only look extraordinarily attractive, but also do not require special care and easy to wash.

In the presence of high ceilings, you can make single- or multi-level suspended structures that will hide any communications, and install LED spotlights on them. Even with a complete lack of experience, you will be able to create quite interesting designs from flexible drywall.

Just like on the walls, on the ceiling, drywall is mounted on guide metal profiles. To do this, first, using a laser or bubble level, a beating is made on the walls (a flat horizontal line). Then a sealing tape is laid along it, and then a guide profile (marked with PN) is attached to the dowels. So that the drywall does not have to be cut again, the distance between the profile posts should be equal to the length of the sheets - the edges of each sheet should lie exactly in the center of the profile.

Then rack-mount profiles (PS) are inserted into the guides and fixed with metal screws. To create curved structures, it is better to use a special arched metal profile and thinner arched drywall.

The color of the ceiling should be one or two shades lighter than the color of the walls. In this case, it will appear higher in the room. You can darken the top only with disproportionately high ceilings.

Replacing doors and finishing doorways

If a door in a small kitchen is not a vital necessity, it’s better to do without it - this will add a couple of extra meters of living space. Finishing the doorway can be done using drywall, chipboard, MDF or plastic panels. A similar technique is used if the opening should be integral with the room. You can decorate it both in the form of a regular rectangle, and a rounded, trapezoidal or asymmetric arch or an arch in the form of an ellipse.

If the doorway will act as a decorative element, it is trimmed with extras - thin slats in the color of the tree. Most often they are attached to mounting foam. (The variant, when the extensions are mounted on special frames, is mainly used when finishing vestibules).

You can get acquainted in more detail with the methods of finishing the doorway with the help of extensions in the following video:

Redecorating

With the current cosmetic repairs, the procedure is similar to the last stage of work performed during the overhaul. All work is carried out on the principle of "from the ceiling - down." That is, the ceiling is first finished, then the walls are plastered, and only then the floor finishing begins. On the last step walls are decorated and furniture is installed.

After removing the old finishes of walls and ceilings, large defects are eliminated using a cement-sand mixture. Further leveling is done with gypsum plaster.

After leveling the walls, be sure to treat them with a primer. This will not only increase their grip on finishing materials, but also prevent the appearance of fungus.

The choice of finishing materials

The kitchen is the place high humidity. There are also large temperature fluctuations. That is why when choosing
materials for finishing, preference should be given to their thermo- and moisture-resistant options. The hygiene requirements of the premises should also be taken into account: all surfaces should be easy to clean.

Work surfaces are best tiled or plastic panels. A kitchen apron can also be pasted over with wallpaper - in this case, they must be protected with glass.

You can learn how to sheathe walls with plastic panels (install a crate for them, cut the panels and choose fasteners for them) by watching the following video:
