Required tool

We are preparing an opening

If the old door remains after the repair, it must be dismantled. To do this, it is recommended to use a crowbar - de installation work should be done with the utmost care. First of all, the decorative elements are removed, then the canvas and the details of the box.

Experts recommend that you take into account the gap between the door blocks and the opening. Before installing the door, the floor finish must be completely laid. But if it is not there yet, then the height of the future coating is laid in the dimensions - it is usually placed in the doorway.

We prepare a place for the lock and loops

Before starting the process of assembling the box, mark out and process with a chisel the areas where the locks and hinges will be attached. To do this, lay the door in a vertical position.

First of all, a lock is applied to the canvas and, using a pencil and a tape measure, mark approximately 900 mm from the floor - this is the standard height for most interior doors. The hinges must be installed 200 mm from the edges of the canvas. Loops are also applied, and the place under them is processed with a chisel. This must be done so that the loop and lock lie on the surface of the web "flush". Next, using a drill, drill holes and screw in the screws.

A vertical stand is applied to the canvas so that there is a small gap of 2-3 mm. It should be between the horizontal bar on the frame and the door leaf. Next, mark the place where the hinges are attached to the box and also choose a place for them.

Not everyone knows how to insert a door using technology and some of the subtleties of this process. Experts recommend treating places that are prepared for mounting the lock and hinges with protective varnishes. With the help of a varnish coating, the wood will be reliably protected from moisture. Do not forget that interior doors are installed on two hinges, while the entrance doors are on three.

Installation of locks and hinges

Now let's see how to insert a lock and hinges into an interior door. The places for these fittings have already been selected - it remains only to fix them. But this is true only for loops.

Mounting the lock may require some effort from the master. In order for the latch to fit correctly on the canvas, it must be attached to the side surface of the door and mark the places for handles, fittings and attachment points. Using the same chisel, the installation sites are again selected. Then, the lock is installed and screwed with self-tapping screws.

There is a small nuance here. When choosing a latch or lock, you need to take into account the width of the bar of the canvas stand. The hole for the lock should not be deeper than a third of the width of the bar. In any other case, the door leaf is simply deformed.

Assembling the door frame

Before assembly, you need to measure the height of the vertical racks. Then they are cut using a miter box. The horizontal beam is adjusted to the width door leaf.

Since a lot of free space is needed to assemble the door block, the process itself is best done on the floor. So that the finish of the box is not damaged during assembly, slats are placed on the places where the racks will be laid, along the length of the canvas.

The horizontal bar is attached to the uprights. Those places where the planks will connect, it is better to tap with a hammer - this will improve the connections. Then, using a screwdriver or screwdriver, the box is fixed. Self-tapping screws are screwed in at the joints and corners.

Some door models are sold with a fully assembled box. Installing doors of such a plan independently turns into the simplest process - the box is simply exposed in doorway and then fixed.

Installation and fastening of extensions

How to install the door correctly if the width of the door leaf is a couple of centimeters less than the slope? In your case, additional slats will help you. In some situations, you can do without them, but in this case you will have to additionally “build up” the slopes. But it takes time, and in the process of further operation, chips appear, and, accordingly, dirt. Dobor in this situation is the best and easiest way out.

As additional trims, door installers recommend using products in the color of the door. Their thickness can vary - from 8 to 12 mm. When the extensions are fixed, they form a kind of portal. Their edges coincide with the edge of the wall.

Mounting the slats is extremely simple. So, with a chisel in a box, you need to choose a quarter. Its size, depending on the additional plank, can be 10 × 10 or 8 × 8. This is done around the entire outer perimeter of the box. Planks must be cut exactly to the height of the box. Also cut the horizontal extension to the width of the box.

The installation of the elements is carried out after the box is installed in its place in the opening and fixed. Further, additional strips are mounted on the selected quarters and fastened with dowels or self-tapping screws.

Mounting the box in the opening

So, after the assembly of the box is over, it's time to start installing it in the doorway. To do this, the block is inserted directly into the opening and fixed with wedges. Experts recommend inserting no more than 2-3 for each vertical rack and 2 wedges for the top bar.

The box is then aligned along the vertical and horizontal axes. The tilt adjustment process is easily accomplished by hammering the wedges. After the door block has stood up perfectly, the box is fixed. Using a drill or puncher, a hole is drilled in the box and wall. With the help of dowels, the box is mounted in the opening.

Canvas installation

When the box is level and fixed, it's time to move on to installing the door leaf. First, hinges are screwed onto the door. Most often, detachable hinges are offered for interior doors, which have a rod that can be removed or fixed in a hinge. One-piece hinges are also sold, but they are practically not used now.

If loops with a embedded rod are used, then everything is very simple - the canvas is easily put on and removed from the box. To do this, you just need to gently lift the door to a small height.

If it does not rise (and on some door models this is really not easy to do), then a one-piece type of hinges and a removable rod are used. To mount these types of hinges, they are also fixed with screws on the box, and then screwed to the door leaf. If the rod can be pulled out of the hinge, then it is simply removed, and the canvas is removed.

When the hinges are installed, you can proceed to hanging the canvas. It is better to perform this operation not on your own, but with someone's help. One person will hold the canvas, the second will install the one-piece hinges or direct the canvas into place (if the hinge is collapsible).

When choosing hinges, you need to remember the opening side, otherwise, at best, you will have to replace them in the store, and at worst, lose time on mounting the hinges.

Fixing the door frame

The next step in how to install an interior door is to secure the box. The gap that exists between the opening and the door frame is usually filled with mounting foam. This is done to fix the door block and increase sound and heat insulation. Mounting foam perfectly fills even the smallest defects, cracks and cracks. This material is easy to use and goes well with any type of surface.

Before filling the gap, it is necessary to close the box so that the foam does not get on it. To do this, it can be pasted over with masking or construction tape, or with a film. If a little foam has already got on the surface of the box, then while it is fresh, it can be easily washed off with solvents or alcohol. If the foam has already hardened, then it can be quite difficult to remove it in this state - this is only possible mechanically, which entails inevitable scratches.

One of the properties of foam is that it can expand significantly in size. When applying this must be taken into account. Sometimes it happens that the door frame is simply deformed - this happens to those who do not know how to correctly insert the door frame and interior door. To prevent this from happening, cardboard spacers are usually used. They are installed between vertical racks. Also, thick cardboard can be laid between the closed opening and the box.

To prevent distortions of the box, the foam is applied in two steps. At the first stage, the application is spot-on. Then, after cooling, fill in whatever is left. Excess material is cut off with a sharp knife.

Then it remains only to install the platbands and accessories. To do this, they are cut to the height of the box at an angle of 45 ° for horizontal and universal slats. Fasteners can be carried out on nails or glue.

How to choose the right door

Before going to the store outside the door, measure the height and width of the doorway. In accordance with the measurements, the door is purchased. The installation of the door is started at a certain stage of repair. Dismantling the old door leaf and frame

The installation of interior doors begins with the dismantling of old door structures. This stage is laborious and destructive. A lot of dust is generated. Therefore, care should be taken to protect the respiratory system and eyes, and, if possible, isolate adjacent rooms. First, the old door is removed from its hinges. To do this, it is opened at a right angle and the door leaf is pulled up. If this technique does not work, you will have to remove the trim from the door frame and, while swinging the door to the sides, simultaneously pull it up until the canvas is removed from the hinges.

The most radical way: just tear the door off the frame, but then the door is no longer suitable for reuse.

To remove the door frame, first remove the solution that fixes the frame in the opening. Then the box is sawn through at the top of the uprights on the left and right. The cuts make it easier to remove the box from the opening with a pry bar or construction scrap. The mount is inserted between the wall and the box and simply pulled towards the opening. The stand breaks and decreases in volume. The same is repeated on the other side, and the whole structure is easily removed from the opening.

Before trying on the door to the opening, first check the opening itself building level. Door frame assembly

The door frame is a frame made of beams. Installation boxes are rectangular or U-shaped. In the first case, boxes are usually used for mounting interior doors in the toilet and bathroom; in all other rooms, doors without a threshold are preferred.

As a rule, door manufacturers produce ready-made pieces of boxed timber, they are fastened together with screws. For self-assembly optimal solution there will be an assembly of the box on the door leaf. The door leaf is laid on the floor or any flat surface. Then, according to it, as according to a template, the parts of the box are cut with subsequent layout. It is important to double-check the gaps between the door leaf and the frame itself: 3-5mm on each side.

When installing a U-shaped box, a gap of 10 mm is maintained between the lower edge of the door and the floor.

After all the intervals between the door frame and the leaf are observed, the mounting points of the hinges, lock, handles are marked.

The prepared racks and the upper crossbar of the door frame are combined in the form of the letter “P” and tightened with self-tapping screws 60 mm long, at least 3 self-tapping screws are used for one joint.

To make the connection between the elements of the box tight, one of them is removed with a hacksaw and a chisel, a part of a quarter with a length equal to the thickness of the adjoining beam).

Installation of hinges on interior doors

An important stage in the self-assembly of interior doors is the installation of canopies, it is on these parts that the quality of opening and closing the door mainly depends. Many people mistakenly believe that it is enough to put two hinges on interior doors. It will be more correct and reliable to install 3 loops.

The marking of the hinge placement positions starts from the upper edge of the door leaf, 250mm and 500mm marks are placed on the corresponding side. Then from the bottom of the canvas - 250mm. Next, hinges are applied to the door leaf from above so that the marks coincide with the middle of the hinge, and markings are made with a pencil on the upper and lower edges of the hinge. To install canopies, the door is turned on edge. The opened hinge is applied so that the hinge protrudes beyond the edge of the door, aligns with the marking lines and outlines the contour of the sash with a pencil. Mark the depth of the groove.

Using a sharp chisel, make several shallow cuts across the grain and cut the wood to the marked line. This work requires extreme care so that the canopy is flush (flush) with the main plane of the door. In order not to split the box beam and the canvas, pilot holes are pre-drilled for screws with a diameter of 2.5 mm.

After fitting, the canopies are screwed to the door with screws with a minimum length of 35mm. In the same way, paired elements of canopies are attached to the installation box.

To do this, mark the position of the loops in the vertical rack. The door is placed in a box, maintaining a technological gap of 2-4 mm between its upper bar and the leaf. The door is taken out, according to the markings, grooves are made with a chisel, the canvas is inserted again and the hinges are cut into the rack of the door frame. The door should freely fit into the box without any gaps and fit snugly against the entire adjacent plane.

After the hinges are attached to the door leaf and frame, install the door frame in the opening.

Installing an interior door frame

The door frame is installed in the prepared opening. First of all, with the help of a level or a plumb line (a thread with a load), a rack with loops is leveled. It is checked from all sides, after which the rack and the upper crossbar are bursting with wooden wedges. An exposed stand is considered when it occupies a strictly vertical position.

After that, the second rack is wedged. Check also the horizontal part of the box. If necessary, the box is wedged with thin linings. Both side posts are drilled through, at the points from the drill in the wall holes are made for dowels. The box is fixed in the wall with long self-tapping screws.

A door is hung on the exposed frame. After that, the final adjustment of the box is carried out. A rack with a striker for the lock is adjusted to the canvas so that the door does not protrude beyond the plane of the wall. To prevent the box and canvas from cracking, pre-drill holes for screws with a diameter of 2.5mm.

Adjustment and alignment of the door unit

The door is hung on one screw in each hinge and checked how it closes. If the harness rubs against the jamb, deepen one or both grooves a little. If the door is pressed against the jamb from the side of the hinges, cardboard boxes are placed under the hinge doors. After the doors open and close normally, the hinges are fixed with the rest of the screws. In order not to deform the structure during fixing, it is recommended to install wooden spacers between the elements of the box and the base of the opening (in increments of 40-50 cm).

The box is fixed to the base plane of the opening using anchor bolts or dowels with self-tapping screws at 6 points (3 each on the hinge and lock sides). Mounting holes are drilled in the elements of the box with a drill, through which the door is attached to the box in the opening.

You can fix the box in the opening not only with the help of dowels. It is much easier to use special liquid nails for these purposes. Glue is applied to the tree, the frame is installed in the opening and spacers are placed. In order not to scratch the doors, they put under the spacers soft tissue. An additional plus of this method is that there are no holes, as after drilling, and plugs are not needed.

Decorative caps are used to mask the screw heads. The next step is foaming the voids. Applies polyurethane foam with a minimum coefficient of expansion to avoid curvature of the box when the composition solidifies. Subsequent work is continued after the foam has completely solidified and its excess has been removed with a mounting knife.

Ways of fastening the door frame in the opening

Exist various ways installation and fixing of the door frame. Each master has his own algorithm of actions.

Installation of the disassembled door frame. Part of the door frame with hinges is installed and attached. Then the door leaf is immediately hung. Then they assemble the remaining parts of the frame and attach them to the wall of the opening. This method allows you to quite accurately mount the door frame and do not need to constantly remove and put on the door.
Installation of the assembled door frame. The mounted box is installed in the opening and burst with wooden wedges. Then they hang the door. The disadvantage of this method is that in order to verify the correct installation, it is necessary to hang the door, and if adjustment is required, the door leaf will have to be removed and the entire installation process repeated.
Mounting with anchors and screws. The screw is screwed directly through drilled hole. A minimum of three screws on each side is required for secure mounting. With this method, the door frame is adjusted using screws. The disadvantage of the method is that the heads of the screws are visible, which are masked with putty or special plugs. In addition, it is quite difficult to determine the exact location of the holes on a brick or concrete wall.
Foaming the door. The method is very simple, the door frame in the opening is burst with wedges, the canvas is hung and the gaskets are inserted between the door and the frame. The wedged and hinged door is bursting wooden blocks(spacers) opposite the hinges and one in the middle. Spacers prevent foam from squeezing the box. Excessive expansion of the door should be avoided, otherwise the gaps will turn out to be uneven. After installing the struts, add wedges near the hinges and opposite each strut. The door is covered with something, and the visible parts of the box are sealed with masking tape so that foam does not get in. Between the canvas and the box, in the so-called vestibule, pieces of packaging cardboard are inserted. This will help to maintain the necessary technological gap. After such preparation, the voids between the box and the wall of the opening are filled with foam. Foam is served carefully, in layers, from top to bottom, so as not to protrude. The door is closed and not touched until the composition is completely dry. The foam dries for -24 hours, after which the spacers are removed. Instead of mounting foam for filling and grouting the cavity between the frame and the opening, they also use cement-sand solution.

Installation of additional interior doors

The dobor is a bar about two meters long, from 6 to 30 mm thick and up to 25 cm wide. Door extensions are used when installing interior doors, when the thickness of the wall is greater than the width of the door frame.

The door frame timber is made of standard width (7 cm), it can be expanded with an additional strip along the thickness of the opening and, thus, to achieve an exact alignment of the wall and the box with the extension.

There is a special groove on the box beam for an additional plank 1 cm deep. Measure the distance from the depth of this groove to the edge of the wall.

The dobor is cut into strips of the desired length and width with a circular saw.

Prepare two vertical strips and one short one for the top of the box

Ways to install extensions:

In the finished groove of the door frame.
If there is no groove, it is cut out independently using a milling cutter.
If there is no groove, the additional plank is cut wider by a few centimeters and screwed to the wrong side of the box beam. Then the door frame is installed immediately along with the extension. This method is used if the walls are even.
In the absence of a groove and with a narrow extension, the extension is carefully drilled through and screwed to the box with self-tapping screws.

Installing the threshold of an interior door

Currently, thresholds for interior doors are unpopular, despite their undoubtedly useful functional qualities: additional heat and sound insulation, protection from drafts and odors. However, the inconvenience of thresholds when walking and cleaning makes most people opt for U-frame doors. Most often, interior doors with a threshold are installed in bathrooms and toilets.

The threshold is even necessary if the floor level there is higher than in adjacent rooms. In addition, in case of small floods, the threshold will prevent water from escaping outside the bathroom and toilet.

Thresholds are made from different materials:

Wooden. The most common are thresholds made of pine and oak. Oak is much more durable, but also more expensive.
Metal. The most wear-resistant thresholds. Mainly used for sealing floor joints. There are single-level, multi-level and corner. The most popular are aluminum. They are much cheaper than brass and steel.
Plastic. They have medium wear resistance. Differ in attractive neat appearance.
Stone. The most durable, expensive and time-consuming thresholds to install.
The guillotine or "smart threshold" is a new aesthetic and practical invention. Does not spoil the appearance of floor coverings, simplifies cleaning indoors, eliminates the problem of obstacles in the doorway. "Smart Threshold" cuts into the lower end of the door leaf to a depth of 20mm and is not visible when the door is open. Consists of a U-shaped aluminum profile, which contains a spring mechanism with rubber seal. A metal strip with a button is attached to the hinged side of the door. When the door is closed, the button is pressed and a spring is activated, which lowers the rubber seal to the floor.

Installation of interior doors with a threshold is almost the same as installation without it. Just when calculating the height of the door, the height of the threshold and gaps are taken into account.

How to set the threshold:

Prepare the threshold of the desired size: the width of the door leaf + 6 mm.
A quarter is cut out to join with the feigned part of the box.
Insert the threshold into the box with a gap of 3-3.5 mm from the canvas (you can put strips of cardboard).
Drill holes with a diameter of 2.5 mm. Take out the threshold and drill holes in the box with a diameter of 4.5 mm.
Tighten the box with screws.
Saw off the excess part of the door frame.

After the extensions are installed, the door can be decorated with platbands.

When calculating the size of the ceiling beam, you should be aware that it is imperative to leave a distance between the feigned and hinged beams, which is equal to the sum of the web width plus 6 mm for gaps. If the door has a threshold, the beam should only be cut at a right angle.

The assembly of the box should be carried out on a flat horizontal plane (it is possible on the floor or in the entrance). Cardboard or plywood is placed on the flooring.

Hardware installation

The next step is to install the fittings on the canvas and the box. Fire safety rules suggest the need to open doors to the outside. Loops can be left or right, but universal ones are most often used. Nowadays high technology hinge designs have appeared that do not require cutting off the part of the door surface necessary for their installation.
