How to make a beautiful shelving. How to make a rack with your own hands: options and diagrams. Alternative chipboard shelving: assembly from individual cubes

Order in any room is the arrangement of each thing in its place. It can be provided only if each object has this place. In this case, the rack will be invaluable help. It is convenient to place objects on it for various purposes. Buy finished structure it doesn’t always work out (they don’t like the size, price, quality, etc.), but making a rack with your own hands is quite affordable.

Rack - a structure consisting of open shelves. It can be used for a variety of purposes. In the office, this will be a convenient place to store documents and other materials that are often used in work. Any folder is easy to find and return to its place.

The racks are collapsible, but stationary models are acceptable at home. Household items and equipment, the results of creative activity, etc. can also be stored on the racks. There are no restrictions, only dimensions are important. In order to take into account the dimensions of the things intended for storage, correctly calculate the load, capacity, it is worth making shelves-racks with your own hands.

The main advantages of this type of furniture are:

  • simplicity of design;
  • ease of use;
  • capacity;
  • acceptability of installation in premises of almost any purpose;
  • space saving.

There are several types of designs for home use:

  • frame racks are non-separable;
  • collapsible frame products;
  • console options.

The main elements of the rack are vertical supports and horizontal parts that act as shelves. Most often, the structures are collapsible, but at home, stationary models are also quite acceptable. Prefabricated structures are mounted using various fasteners, non-separable - using welding.

Welding - reliable way fastening, but it requires certain professional skills and the presence of a welding machine. Therefore, information on how to make a wooden rack is more often in demand. This is the more affordable model. Blanks can be made independently, or you can order by providing information about the required dimensions.

Various options for shelving with your own hands made of wood

The wooden shelving structure is theoretically made quite simply. To avoid problems during practical implementation, you must first make a drawing, which should reflect the height, width and depth of the future product, the location of the crossbars, taking into account the method of attachment.

Helpful advice! When measuring the part of the room where the rack will be installed, be sure to take into account the width of the protruding plinth, molding and other possible decorative elements.

It is convenient to use timber for the main racks and crossbars, shelves can be made from boards, wood boards, plywood.

Quite often, chipboards are used for the manufacture of this type of furniture. Do-it-yourself chipboard shelving is the most affordable option. Significant time and money savings in manufacturing are achieved due to the absence of a frame from individual elements (vertical racks, horizontal crossbars). Sawing, in the absence of appropriate equipment, is best done in special workshops, where you can order high-quality processing of the end parts.

On the proposed photos - do-it-yourself shelving from chipboard. Models for living rooms have interesting design elements in the form of originally located shelves, additional slats, color combinations elements. Designs exclusively technical purpose look simple. Sometimes the upper and lower shelves are reinforced with additional cross bars for greater rigidity of the product.

Plywood racks are aesthetic and quite durable. Most often these are options for utility rooms, household rooms. If you apply creative fantasy, you can create such a model for any room, including the guest room. Do-it-yourself plywood rack is usually made on wooden frame, but if the plywood has a thickness of 10–15 mm, then a variant is possible by analogy with a chipboard construction.

Tips to help when making a shelving unit made of wood or wood-based materials:

  1. If there is no approach to the structure from both sides, the depth of the shelves should not be more than 500 mm.
  2. When planning a model to the ceiling, you need to think about the possibility of getting to the upper shelves. Alternatively, you can make and attach a wooden non-removable ladder to the side wall.
  3. With a shelf width of more than 600 mm (regardless of the material of manufacture), it is worth attaching them to a horizontal frame frame - this will prevent sagging.

If you want to decorate a wooden rack, you can use stain, tinting varnishes, craquelure and other types of surface treatment.

Material requirements for shelving made of wood and wood-based materials

Even having correctly calculated the dimensions, having made detailed drawing, having perfectly assembled, a solid product can still not be obtained. The reason will turn out to be the most banal - poor-quality or material that does not meet the operating conditions.

Basic requirements for the wood used:

  1. The moisture content of the material should not exceed 12%, otherwise the product may warp.
  2. The presence of cracks and chips that do not affect the integrity of parts under load is allowed.
  3. Processing must be of high quality: even cuts, polished surface. These indicators affect not only aesthetics: irregularities may not allow for high-quality assembly, a rough surface threatens injury, albeit insignificant (splinters, scratches).

It is possible to make a reliable rack of boards with your own hands that meets the expected characteristics only subject to the above requirements.

As for chipboard, here, when evaluating the material, you need to pay attention to the quality of the coating. For arranging objects with a smooth bottom surface, lamination is suitable. For heavier elements with an imperfect surface, it is better to choose melamine. Veneer, including artificial, is best used for shelving that requires decoration.

In addition, you need to pay attention to the quality of the cut: chips and irregularities do not allow you to reliably process the butt. Consequently, there is a threat of penetration of vapors, moisture, which will inevitably lead to swelling of the material.

When planning a plywood rack, you need to consider:

  • sheet thickness, it should be at least 9-10 mm;
  • type of wood;
  • type of gluing (preferably the presence of layers with a perpendicular arrangement of fibers).

Helpful advice! The purchased wood material must be marked. Its absence may indicate the absence of a certificate for this product.

For damp rooms, it is better to mount shelving made of wood, rather than wood-based materials. If you make a rack in the basement from the latter (with your own hands), even with high-quality protective treatment, traces of swelling and delamination will quickly appear on it.

Original design options for kitchen shelving

The kitchen is a special place. This is a living area, a room with a certain interior. However, quite often the level of humidity in it is increased.

There are special requirements for the kitchen shelving:

  • use for the manufacture of only moisture-resistant materials;
  • high quality surfaces that allow the use of special detergents;
  • design design of the structure.

The do-it-yourself shelving options for the kitchen offered in the photo have a wide variety of designs:

  • shelving-partitions dividing the kitchen into zones;
  • console options that actually and visually occupy little space;
  • mobile products, on wheels;
  • racks of a special design - table-island.

For classic kitchens good option There will be a wooden shelving. But for modern rooms in high-tech styles, minimalism, you can make a metal rack with your own hands. As a frame, it is better to use a corner (steel or aluminum), and the shelves are made of glass. You can buy material for the frame at any store that sells rolled metal products.

If it is impossible to make a welded structure, the corner can be connected with bolts. Metal is a durable material, but without a protective coating, it will corrode.

It is better to purchase tempered glass with a smooth surface, which will facilitate the cleaning process. It is very important to make a careful measurement. This is necessary so that the glass blank fits correctly into the metal frame. For massive racks, it is recommended to use a steel corner - aluminum is more suitable for small structures.

If the glass does not fit into a metal frame, but is superimposed on it, it must be aesthetically and securely fixed (glue can be used) and the cut points should be polished with high quality.

Economy option: tool rack from old water pipes

A certain set of tools is available in almost every home. Quite often, men strive to equip at least a small workshop, where it will be possible to perform at least simple tasks. repair work. The rack in this case will be the best storage place. Significant funds for the arrangement of such premises are usually not allocated, so the use of used materials will be the best solution.

In the workshop, you can make a metal rack with your own hands. It is recommended to use old water pipes as a basis (framework).

Required tools:

  • a hacksaw for metal or a jigsaw with a saw for metal;
  • thread-cutting dies or pipe die;
  • construction dryer.

The manufacturing sequence may be as follows:

  1. Make a drawing of the future design.
  2. Clean the pipes of traces of paint with a building hair dryer, remove traces of corrosion (if any), apply a new coating to the pipes.
  3. Cut pipes into required lengths.
  4. With the help of dies or a pipe die, cut the threads in the right places.
  5. Using fittings, starting from the bottom up, connect the shelving structure.
  6. Cut shelves from the existing material (you can take fragments of used furniture), attach them to the frames using metal screws.

This do-it-yourself pipe rack model can be made more interesting if the shelves are not attached to the pipes, but put on (strung) on vertical supports, having previously made holes in them (in the shelves).

Helpful advice! Shelves of a rack designed for storing tools are best placed at different distances. The bottom step will be the highest, then decreasing. If the reduction is of a constant size (for example, 15 cm), this will add to the aesthetics of the product.

Shelving design: photo ideas for a modern interior

The main function of racks is to store items for various purposes. When installed in living rooms, this type of furniture is subject to an important requirement - compliance with the design style. Sometimes the rack is made specifically to make the interior brighter.

Excellent item design decoration hallway can become. The model in the form of a rack is most suitable for these purposes:

  • traces of moisture easily dry out on shoes stored in such conditions;
  • shoes, even dried, do not tolerate closed space;
  • It's always easy to find the right pair.

Do-it-yourself shoe rack can be made from pallets, timber and slats, from boards, wood boards, from hardware. For a small hallway, it is appropriate to use a compact console model - lay and fix the shelves on metal or metal protruding from the wall. wooden bases. If your own imagination does not suggest any options, you can find and carefully study photos on the Internet, where some ideas will appeal to you.

Photo projects, which show types of toy racks, will also help to decorate a children's room. There are no restrictions for creative expression and creativity. DIY toy rack can be made of wood, chipboard, plywood. Metal is used only as a fastening material. It can be shelving-slides, houses, various vertical and horizontal structures, made in bright and pleasant colors. In the manufacture of a rack for toys, it is necessary to take into account the following points:

  • the design is stable (better attached to the wall);
  • it does not have sharp protruding corners;
  • all shelves must be accessible to the child.

The do-it-yourself flower rack designs proposed in the photo are impressive with a variety of ideas. They combine decorativeness and specific functionality. The different depth of the shelves allows all plants to receive the same amount of natural light, the lights decorate and make up for its deficiency in the dark.

Do-it-yourself wooden rack for space zoning

Today, many give their sympathy to housing with a small number of partitions, where kitchens and living rooms, offices and bedrooms are combined. It is possible to carry out zoning of such premises with the help of shelving. This is greatly facilitated by the openness of these structures.

One of the options could be a do-it-yourself wooden rack. The drawing for this design is especially important, since it will be necessary not only to calculate the dimensions and outline the location of the main parts, but also take into account the attachment points. Lack of thought in this case can adversely affect aesthetics.

The design involves a double-sided rack: one part in relation to the other is in a mirror image. Two more vertical posts are attached to the two main vertical posts from different sides. The material and blanks of the latter may be identical to the main ones, or may differ from them (it all depends on desire), but additional racks must be the same.

Then you need to fix the shelves. You will get two racks with one vertical base. Shelves can be placed at the same level, or they can be shifted on one side, necessarily subject to a certain pattern. The difference in shades of the sides of the rack will help to highlight the zones brighter.

Helpful advice! The depth of the shelves of this type of furniture should not exceed 300 mm, since the design will look massive, heavy and attract undue attention.

This option can also be used for household premises. For example, having made such a rack with your own hands in the pantry, it would be advisable to use one side for pickles and jams, and the other for storing boxes with different contents. The possibility of approach from two sides will make the use more comfortable.

How to make a do-it-yourself rack for large round objects

In the manufacture of shelving for large items, it is very important to correctly calculate the load capacity and dimensions of the structure. If the uprights and crossbars begin to bend or crack over time, the device will have to be removed for safety reasons. Therefore, in order to avoid this, it is necessary to choose a durable material and calculate the dimensions, taking into account a quarter of the circumference of the objects intended to be placed.

A great option for storing tires and other rounded things can be made from pipes. The design is extremely simple: four main vertical posts and several crossbars (depending on the planned number of tiers). The shelves for such types of products are conditional - these are two (or four, depending on the diameter of the objects placed) pipes that make up the horizontal frame.

Considering that there are not so many tires for a private car (6-8 are supposed to be stored on pipe racks), the lower tier is enough for them, the rest can be laid out with disks, free round containers, various bays, etc.

Making a rack for wheels with your own hands will not require much time and money, but it will free up a significant amount of space by organizing large-sized items, the storage of which is complicated not only by their size, but also by shape features. Their storage without a specially equipped place is extremely difficult.

Do-it-yourself universal collapsible rack

Any assembled rack can also be considered collapsible, since when the steps are performed in reverse order, the structure will turn into a set of blanks. It is convenient to have a rack on the farm that can be assembled and disassembled without additional tools. It's better if he small sizes so that it is easy to store and transport unassembled.

This model is often used when performing short-term or seasonal work, for temporary orderly storage of certain items. During the period of seasonal harvesting, a do-it-yourself collapsible rack design in the cellar can become quite in demand. It is convenient to use plastic pipes as a material for manufacturing. They have a low price, are easily mounted with a soldering iron, are light in weight, and are not subject to corrosion. If you do not have your own soldering iron, you can rent it for a very small fee.

Materials and tools required for the manufacture of a collapsible rack structure:

  • plastic pipes;
  • fittings for plastic pipes: angles, tees, crosses;
  • knife for cutting pipes;
  • soldering iron.

The frame of the shelves is made with the help of corners. Cross pipes stacked and soldered using tees. Crosses are inserted at the corners of the shelves instead of tees. They perform a dual function: they fix the inserts of the pipes that make up the shelf, and they are part of the prefabricated vertical support. Two crosses between the shelves are connected by pipes of a smaller diameter, which makes them collapsible. Sections of the lower pipes can be closed with plugs.

Do-it-yourself shelving for a metal garage made of plastic for open spaces, pavilions, made of plastic, is applicable, as they are resistant to precipitation.

Helpful advice! plastic pipes, having a high level of strength, are to a certain extent exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Racks made of this material should not be left in the open sun for a long time.

Do-it-yourself shelving in the garage: location options, sizes

A room that practically cannot do without shelving is a garage. Therefore, it is worth dwelling on garage shelving structures separately. The proposed photos of shelving in the garage with their own hands demonstrate various models: wooden, metal, collapsible, stationary and even with pull-out shelves for storing metal sheets. Upon careful examination of the photo, it is quite possible to understand the manufacturing technology.

The question of how to make a rack in the garage with your own hands correctly is no less relevant. A few tips to avoid mistakes when designing a structure:

  1. If the size of the garage space allows, it is better to make the rack the entire wall. This will provide a lot of storage space and make it comfortable to use the garage: objects will not lie under your feet.
  2. The garage is most often an unheated room, so the material will be subject to temperature changes. If you plan to make a rack in the garage with your own hands from wood, it is better not to save on its quality and processing means.
  3. It is desirable to make the distance between the shelves different, since in this case the space of the structure is more rationally used.
  4. It is better if you can get to the top shelf without additional devices (ladders, ladders, bedside tables, etc.). The available height of the rack contributes to comfortable and safe use.
  5. The free area in front of the rack must be at least 1 meter. Otherwise, it will be difficult to take and put dimensional objects.
  6. If the shelving area is poorly lit, it is worth making a backlight. Convenient and inexpensive option- LED Strip Light.
  7. It is recommended to arrange items on the rack in the following sequence: on the lower shelves - overall, on the middle - frequently used, on the top - rarely used.

Matching style: do-it-yourself loft shelving

If the room is decorated in a loft style, a rack with shelves can be a good design addition. This design will not require any special materials, the main thing is the shape and size of the elements. Looking through photos depicting racks made in this style, you can see that no multi-level or stepped arrangement of shelves is unusual for them.

To make the structure look more massive, a rectangular frame usually consists of several blocks. The material used is metal or wood. An interesting option is a rack made of metal pipes connected by corners. The lower parts of the pipes, which are legs, are attached to the floor using flanges. The design is complemented by a ladder, which is hung on the upper shelf with curved upper ends.

A loft-style rack can be made from a steel corner with a size of at least 50x50 mm. It is desirable to make frames for shelves from a smaller corner. In the manufacture of such a shelving structure made of wood, it is also worth choosing a beam for the frame with a large section, and for shelves - less by 15–20 mm. The massive base is typical for furniture of this style.

It is possible to assemble metal racks from a corner both by welding and using bolted connections. The protruding fasteners will only enhance the styling.

Quickly and inexpensively: do-it-yourself rack from a profile

For the manufacture of shelving frames, a metal profile is often used. This material has a number of undeniable advantages:

  • high level of strength provided by stiffeners;
  • resistance to temperature extremes, corrosion;
  • ease of processing (does not require special tools, enough scissors for metal or a hacksaw);
  • affordable price.

To make a rack from a profile with your own hands, you need to calculate the total sum of the lengths of all parts of the rack, purchase the required amount of material and self-tapping screws for connection. From the profile, you can make a design of any complexity. The following materials are suitable for the manufacture of shelves:

  • plastic,
  • wood;
  • wood materials;
  • sheet metal;
  • gypsum.

The option should be chosen in accordance with the operating conditions of the rack. Any of the above shelves is easy to attach to the profile frame. This material is most suitable for creating modular structures. A few tips on how to make a profile rack durable and stable:

  • with a shelf width of more than 0.9 meters, use a double profile;
  • if the structure exceeds 1.8 meters, it should be fixed to the wall;
  • do not use a profile having a metal thickness of less than 0.6 mm.

Helpful advice! If the rack is planned to be used in rooms with a high level of humidity, a galvanized profile should be purchased.

Do-it-yourself bookcase: library and interior options

According to their purpose, bookcases are of two types:

  • for the maintenance of the home library;
  • for storage not a large number books and interior design.

For the first option, the construction along the wall from bottom to top is advisable. The most affordable option is from coated chipboard. The side posts are cut out of the slab along its maximum length (usually 2.7 m), the transverse posts should not exceed 100 mm. The shelves are attached to the side supports by means of metal furniture corners installed from below. If the rack seems unstable (this is possible with a shelf depth of less than 400 mm), it is better to fix it to the wall.

A reliable design for a large number of books can serve as a self-made rack made of timber. At a high height (above 2 m), the cross section of the vertical supports must be at least 70x70 mm. As a material for the frame of the shelves, you can use a bar with a section of 40x40 mm.

For the manufacture of racks, taking into account the style features of the interior, the Internet offers interesting ideas. For example, it can be a chipboard rack having two flat vertical supports (width 300 mm) in the same plane and one vertical perpendicular of the same dimensions located between them. Shelves are attached to it on different sides. The other two perform a decorative function and prevent the shelves from sagging - at the points of contact, the shelves and supports are connected.

The original bookcase with your own hands can be made as follows:

  1. A rectangular box is made.
  2. Then, by internal partitions (vertically - whole, horizontally - fragments) it is divided into 6-8 identical squares.
  3. In turn, each square is divided by vertical or horizontal partitions (of the same type in one sector), creating many small shelves.

The proposed model can be made of both wood and wood materials.

For small rooms, for example, bedrooms, where a small number of books are stored, console options made of wood are suitable - shelves no more than 600 mm wide, attached in the center to a beam protruding from the wall.

Rational use of space: do-it-yourself corner rack

In small rooms it is advisable to place a corner rack. Modeling a structure must be approached with a certain level of knowledge:

  • take into account the correspondence of the proportions of the rack to the dimensions of the room as a whole. Too large a design will visually take up a lot of space;
  • when drawing up a rack drawing, try to make the corner area as accessible as possible, it should not be blocked by racks.

You can make a small corner rack with rounded shelves, which will be an attachment to the main furniture. Racks of this form are convenient for the bathroom, hallway. Using metal and glass, it is possible to organize a light and aesthetic design. If we take a square shelf as a basis, it will turn out to be a rack on wheels, which can be easily moved and returned to its place, in the corner of the room.

The corner design can be used in the manufacture of do-it-yourself tool racks. A wood or metal profile is suitable as a material for the frame. A fairly common option is a rack along three walls with two corner fragments. The design is roomy, but it should be noted that for comfortable use, the distance between opposite sides should not be less than 100 mm.

Helpful advice! Shelf depth corner rack must not exceed 500 mm. Otherwise, it will be problematic to get objects from far corners.

Do-it-yourself combined rack for cans

The basement is a room where only the owners are. In this regard, there is a tendency to equip it with second-rate or second-hand materials. In the manufacture of shelving for the basement, this approach is unacceptable. Even with properly arranged ventilation, full ventilation cannot be ensured. High humidity levels are inevitable and even desirable for storage fresh vegetables such as beets and carrots.

These conditions must be taken into account when choosing a material. Dense wood (oak, ash) is expensive, more often affordable pine is used. Even with good processing, this material will rot over time.

In the basement, it is better to make a rack from the corner with your own hands. To create a frame, dimensions of 45x45x4 mm or more are suitable. You can fasten the corner with bolts, such connections are easier to view for integrity.

It is better to use boards as shelves, it is more pleasant and safer to put them on them. glass jars. Metal frames for shelves should be turned upside down so that the boards can be laid perpendicularly. The thickness of the boards should be 30 mm with the dimensions of the corner 45x45x4 mm.

The resulting rim will prevent the cans from slipping. Boards are not recommended to be fixed. This will allow, if necessary, to easily replace individual of them, in summer time you can freely lift them into the open air for drying and processing.

In a similar way, a rack for seedlings is made by hand. For its best development, greenhouse conditions are necessary, and this is warm, moist air and constant watering. The combined design, made of a metal corner and a board, will be comfortable and will last a long time.

Exclusive interior furniture: do-it-yourself bookcase

Whatnot - the same rack, only smaller (the length indicator is important), where the shelves can only be fixed on racks. It is a free-standing, non-fixed design. Particular attention is paid to her decorative design. That is why it is better to make a bookcase yourself from wood. An affordable option is decorative pine shelving. This material is inexpensive and easy to process.

If there is no tool for making decorative elements (threads, turned parts), you can make a base, and order parts. As an artistic treatment, it is recommended to use toning, applying compositions that “age” the tree. The bookcase can be painted white, black or any other color - in accordance with the style of the room.

Having made a wooden rack with your own hands, decorating it in an interesting way, you can get a wonderful piece of furniture - a bookcase for souvenirs, photographs, books and other items that you want to keep in plain sight.

The advantages of making furniture with your own hands, in particular shelving, are as follows:

  1. This is an opportunity to fulfill all the requirements, wishes, realize your own dreams and creative ideas.
  2. Individuality, originality of design. Even taking an idea from the Internet, each creator will bring his own special features to it.
  3. Moral satisfaction.
  4. Saving money. Most likely, this is not even a saving, but an opportunity to obtain a high-quality, reliable product at low cost.

The main condition is the presence of desire, in which case you can safely get down to business. The information presented in the article will help to qualitatively and quickly create the necessary rack model.

Recently, I was faced with the task of acquiring a bookcase. Approximately the same design as in the photo below. 180 cm high, 80 cm wide and 30 cm deep. Naturally, the first thing I did was go to the stores, but the minimum price without delivery of 2,700 rubles surprised me: it’s very expensive. It seemed to me that such a rack can be purchased in the region of 1000 rubles.

And then I was suggested the idea of \u200b\u200bself-assembly. No sooner said than done. And it turned out that it is not only easy, but also interesting!

The fact is that the main material for such racks is laminated chipboard (LSD LDSP), 16 mm thick. Accordingly, the first step was to determine the dimensions of the parts and find a place where all this can be filed.

Shelving dimensions

It is easy to see that the rack I need consists of 9 large parts: 2 side walls, 6 transverse shelves and a white wall. Color - light beech.

As I wrote above, I needed a rack 1800 * 800 * 300 mm. Accordingly, the dimensions of the parts were as follows:
2 side walls - 1800*300 mm.
6 transverse shelves - 80*30 cm
1 wall made of white fiberboard - 1750*830 mm.

The place where you can buy it all

In principle, it is enough to type "chipboard cut" in the search engine and understand where it is better and cheaper. In Petrozavodsk, for example, the company "Laminat Monza" on Kooperativnaya, 6 is engaged in this - http://mzptz.ru/.

That's where I went. Unfortunately, they don’t cut it right away, you have to wait a few days.

Arriving a couple of days later with a friend by car (after all, the parts are quite large and difficult), I paid 1485 rubles for the above.

But it wasn't all expenses. Additional needed to buy:
16 shelf supports 5 mm each. It is better to buy more for a spare. 1 piece = 35 kopecks.
8 hexagonal couplers 6.3 * 50 mm - it is also better to buy more for a reserve. 1 piece = 67 kopecks
And self-adhesive plugs so that the place where we drilled can be sealed.

I also bought 10 meters of "light beech" edgebanding from the guys in the warehouse. 1 meter = 7 rubles.

Total additional details cost me 100 rubles.

Total for the cost of materials, the rack cost 1585 rubles. If necessary, the cost of delivery of materials can be added here. Thus, the materials are almost two times cheaper than in the store!

Assembly

And now - the most interesting. Shelving assembly. Here are the plates themselves.

If you look closer, they look like this: pressed wood shavings from the sides. To prevent this from being seen, we glue the edge.

First stage assembling the rack - glue the edge. First we do it with shelves. Here it is enough to glue only one side, because. the rest will be hidden. I recommend you practice first. So, we firmly install the stove so that it does not stagger.

Next, take .... iron! Yes Yes. It turns out that the edge is glued with an iron (heat). We cut off the necessary piece of the edge, evenly install.

And carefully, constantly making sure that the edge does not move out, we carry out with an iron. As a result of a chemical reaction, the edge is tightly glued to the end of the plate.

Since it is wider than the stove, we take a thin knife and cut off the excess. It's important to keep everything straight. In fact, this is the most difficult stage, but you quickly understand how to hold the knife. Later, you can take a fine sandpaper and remove the bumps.

With two side walls we do the same, only we glue two sides: front and top.

I strongly advise you to watch the video on how the edge is glued - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2oL9Jaq62I

Second phase- drill recesses for shelf supports. To do this, we select a drill that is suitable in thickness and outline the recesses (i.e., we drill not through, but through the length of the shelf supports). In fact, they mean the distances at which our regiments will be. This is the beauty of self-assembly - you decide what you need and how you need it.

What we did on one wall, we also do on the second.

Third stage- Drilling holes for screeds. Ties connect the side walls with the upper and lower shelves (optional - you can do it in the middle). I recommend for the lowest shelf to retreat 5-10 centimeters.

We drill holes for the ties in the upper and lower shelves and twist them.

As a result, we get such a framework.

Fourth stage- attach the back wall. It's not difficult. Just a white sheet of fiberboard is placed around the perimeter and attached to the frame. I tried to attach it to a construction stapler, but it didn’t hold well, so I nailed it with small carnations,

Fifth stage- we insert shelf holders into the recesses, install the shelves, glue the plugs and rejoice :)

That, in fact, is all. And this rack will serve as the basis for our online store -

AT household over time, so many necessary things accumulate that the available lockers are sorely lacking. This problem is especially acute for owners of small houses and apartments. The rack will help out - a universal shelf design of any size and for every taste. Wood-polymer composite, which you will need, we recommend ordering on the site https://mydecking.ru/.

Since you can put it absolutely everywhere: in the nursery, in the office, in the garage, etc., there are an infinite number of manufacturing options. The design of any rack includes vertical frames, racks, crossbars and shelves. You can independently build a simple rack in the basement for storing cans of blanks or in the garage so that all the available tools are neatly stored on the shelves. In addition to convenience and aesthetic appearance Shelving also saves a lot of space.

Of course, in the basement you can install a simple frame with shelves, and this will be enough, but to decorate home interior, will have to try. In rooms with high humidity(in the basement, garage) the use of metal will be more rational and practical, and wood is best used in dry rooms. Even when treated with an antiseptic, wood in conditions of constant dampness will not last long. Preference is given to natural wood (pine, mahogany, oak), laminated chipboard is suitable, OSB board and plywood.

The dimensions of the rack depend on its purpose, the design depends on the desires of the home master. It is convenient when the structure is raised to the ceiling: the storage area increases and it will be possible to attach the rack to the ceiling for greater stability and reliability.

For “weighty” items: books, dishes, jars of pickles, the optimal depth of the shelves is 25 cm, for light items - up to 50 cm. You should not make the shelves wider, as it will be difficult to reach items placed against the wall. The length of the shelves also depends on the load: for light things they can be made up to 1.5 m, and for storing heavy items you will have to limit yourself to 90 cm, otherwise the shelves may bend or even break.

Shelving drawing with approximate dimensions

You will definitely need a drawing in order to beautifully and correctly plan the position of the shelves, taking into account the weight of the items that will be laid out on the shelves. The distance between them is from 30 to 60 cm; you can make the lower shelf higher if large items are stored there. The top shelves are designed for boxes with light items.

Types of racks

The simplest standard rack consists only of shelves and side racks, it has no side and rear walls.

Much more interesting are racks-lattices of various configurations: they combine sizes that form original horizontal, vertical and diagonal weaves.

Such racks can not only be installed on the floor, but also hung on the wall on hooks. The asymmetric arrangement of shelves or partitions, their rounded and zigzag shapes turn the rack into a bright element of the interior. But this is a job for experienced craftsmen. Under the rack, you can also take a free place under the stairs rising to the second floor.

With the help of a rack you can in any room, and if you attach the wheels, then it can be easily moved around the room. The rack can be built into a niche, then the task of its construction is simplified to a minimum or rotating. It can also be supplemented with doors and hooks. If the lower shelves are made in the form of retractable drawers, then they will become steps and help you easily get to the upper shelves.

The main elements of the rack and its installation

First of all, a solid foundation is constructed, for which a thick board is taken along the length of the future rack. wooden racks they do not spread widely, their usual step is up to 60 cm, when using metal corners of 50x50 mm it can be increased to 1 m. wooden planks, chipboard or OSB board. The back wall is most often not made; if necessary, it is cut out of a plywood sheet.

A small wooden rack-rack with a reinforced frame of shelves with a transverse bar

First, establish a solid foundation. The frame is fixed on self-tapping screws, the corners are reinforced with additional strips. When assembling, you need to use a level so that there are no distortions. The finished base is attached to the wall. The side walls are cut from chipboard, furniture board or plywood, cut grooves in them with a milling cutter, install shelves in them and fix them with self-tapping screws. The thickness of the shelves should be at least 2.5 cm.

The rack assembled in this way is installed on the base and securely fixed. If you drill plywood linings on the side walls and sew them up with laminated chipboard, the rack will become much more attractive. You can also finish the front part, and decorate the top and bottom of the rack with a wooden curly plinth.

It is also easy to assemble the structure: first, they mount the frames, then, using a level, align them vertically and attach them to the wall. If the load is assumed to be impressive, then the rack is tied longitudinal profile, which will create the necessary stiffening belt. The size of an equal-shelf angle is 40x40 mm, if we take a square tubular profile, then with a section of 254x25, with a wall of 2 mm.

The owners of small apartments often have a thought, but is it possible to use the balcony as a warehouse for necessary and not very items?

Certainly. If you make a convenient rack, for example, for a balcony, where you can store tools and other things that are unnecessary in the apartment. Wooden shelves for the balcony can be ordered from specialists, or you can make a rack with your own hands. It will not be difficult and, of course, it will come out cheaper.

Racks can be made:

  • from a metal profile and chipboard boards;
  • wooden beam and plywood;
  • boards and chipboard;
  • bars, with drywall shelves;
  • in other variations.

A do-it-yourself rack, if it is wooden, will require the purchase of pine boards, the width of which can be from 240 mm and the thickness from 200 mm. They should be even, dry and smoothly planed. You will also need self-tapping screws and metal corners to fasten the shelves.

PVA glue is useful for gluing wood. And when you paint the rack (if it is for a balcony), then it will be more profitable to do the painting yourself. You will have to purchase PF-115 enamel for outdoor work. But you can also buy stain and alkyd varnish.

What tools will be required

  • saw or jigsaw;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • square, tape measure, sandpaper;
  • paint brush.

Self-tapping screws and screws for fastening

As you can see: the material for wooden shelving will be inexpensive, and simple carpentry tools can be found in any home.

How will we do

Let's get acquainted with the construction of wood. As you can see, it consists of three standard elements, installed one above the other. Thus, you can improvise and make a rack, preferably wooden, of any height and width.

Dimensions can be calculated by arbitrarily changing the dimensions of the shelf, and the number of racks. We will connect them together with self-tapping screws and metal corners. For greater stability, we can additionally attach the shelves with corners to the balcony wall.

It should be noted that the length of the shelves should not exceed 80 cm, so that the shelves do not sag. If you want to make the length longer, then insert reinforcing supports from the boards in the middle of the rack, fixing them from above and below with self-tapping screws.

First, mark out all the elements on the boards using a square. Carefully cut the boards to size and assemble them by gluing the PVA joints and screwing in the screws. Each structure should consist of a carrier shelf and two supports in the shape of the letter "G". For strength, you need to strengthen the rack, if it is wooden. It can be supplemented at the bottom for strength with its metal corners.

Below are possible options making such shelving on the balcony with your own hands.

We will need:

  • pine planed timber 50 to 50;
  • boards (any thickness, depending on the purpose of the shelves);
  • self-tapping screws, dowels, screwdriver, saw, hammer, jigsaw, tape measure, square, plumb;
  • paint, stain, varnish, brushes.

We measure the beam, saw off wooden risers and crossbars with an electric jigsaw or saw. On the floor we assemble a frame with rungs, like a ladder. We check them with a square. Fasten with screws.

We drill holes in the wall of the balcony with a perforator. Insert dowels. We attach our "ladder" to the wall and screw the screws through the bars.

We install the same “ladder” No. 2 near the window, with the difference that this design should rest against the ceiling in length. We drill holes on the ceiling with a puncher and strengthen two parallel bars to which the “ladder” will be attached.

We align the “ladder” with a plumb line and, holding it with our hands, fasten it with self-tapping screws to the beams on the ceiling. On the resulting crossbars, we nail the shelves from the boards.

The resulting structures are painted with paint, or stain. Open with varnish if necessary.

Those who love durability will love metal shelving, which is perhaps only suitable for a balcony. They can also be designed and made with your own hands. It will be a little more difficult than wooden ones, but it is quite possible. How many pipes you need, you can calculate yourself according to the size of your loggia.

For manufacturing you will need:

  • metal pipes square section for racks 20 by 50 mm;
  • corner for the frame of shelves 15 to 25;
  • welding machine, electrodes;
  • pine board, 20 mm thick and 240 mm wide;
  • saw for wood, grinder, tape measure, level;
  • enamel PF-115 - one can and a brush.

If you don’t have an apparatus, or don’t know how to use it, then you can order individual parts from a welder to make a rack for a balcony. And on the bolts it will not be difficult to assemble it with your skillful hands at home.

Sequence of work

Let's mark all the elements on the profile and the corner with chalk. We cut with a grinder. Then we weld the side racks with the machine, checking their level so that our rack, which is intended for the balcony, does not warp. Then from the corner we weld a quadrangular frame for each shelf.

After that, on the side racks of the structure, we make marks for the shelves with chalk, applying a level horizontally with our hands.

We weld the frame of the shelves. After that, we cut the boards to the size of the shelves. It is better to lay the boards across, so it will be better for the strength of the shelves. Then we drill holes around the perimeter of the frame, and fasten the boards with self-tapping screws.

At the end, with our skillful hands, we paint the rack, which we have for the balcony, with PF enamel and leave it to dry.

I repeat that the racks can be made by specialists, and assembled by hand at home, with the help of bolts. It will be easier and will allow you to save a little on your budget.

Now, after getting acquainted with the process of making shelving, we know that it is not at all difficult to make them on our own.

Racks have always been of great interest. This is quite a convenient thing that can be used to store various things, books. You can also put on high racks and pots with undersized plants, which will look pretty nice.

Figure 1. Drawing wooden shelving.

Making a wooden rack with your own hands is not so difficult and almost everyone can do it. You just need to prepare everything you need for work in advance. To date, there are many options for racks, different in design. But below we consider one of the simplest and most practical options.

Materials and tools for work

Before embarking on the process of making a wooden shelving with your own hands, you need to choose the right materials and tools.

As the main material, it is advisable to choose boards made of natural wood. For this purpose, oak, pine or mahogany is best suited. It is not recommended to use boards based on wood chips, as they will not be particularly durable and practical. At the same time, make sure that the moisture content of the wood does not exceed 12%. Also, before work, the tree is treated with antiseptics and special impregnations, after which it is allowed to lie down in a warm room for a couple of days. In addition to the boards, for the rack you will need:

Tools for making wooden shelving.

  • tape measure and pencil for marking;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Grinder;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • varnish for wood;
  • a hammer;
  • wood glue;
  • metal corners;
  • drill;
  • plywood;
  • furniture legs on wheels;
  • varnish and brush;
  • wooden blocks for transverse fixation of shelves;
  • shelf holders.

Preparation of the base, walls and shelves

We begin the work by choosing the bottom base. As such, a thick board is taken (the thickness should be such that a self-tapping screw 3 cm long can freely enter it). At the same time, its length is equal to the maximum length of the rack, and its width is equal to its maximum width, which you choose yourself. At the same time, at the bottom of the base, it is desirable to nail transverse bars every meter of the length of the rack, the length of which is equal to the width of the base. They will provide additional strength.

Now we move on to work on the side boards. If you have limited material resources, you can use thick plywood for the sides instead of natural wood. Immediately mark it so that the width is equal to the width of the base, and the height of the boards is chosen independently. Next, carefully cut out the sides of the desired size. Immediately we make markings for the shelves on their inside. At the same time, one should not forget that the optimal figures for the height of the shelves are 21 and 42 cm. These two heights can be combined. So you get the shelves at the same time and roomy, and quite neat.

Schematic of the shelving.

Now move on to cutting the shelves out of wood. Their length is measured from the inside of the rack so that they fit freely and tightly into the rack at the same time. The width is equal to the depth of the cabinet itself. Shelf thickness in ideal should not be less than 2.5 cm. BUT it is still better to fix them with transverse bars from below. Bars can be nailed with ordinary small carnations.

Next, it's time to tackle the back wall. As a rule, if you are satisfied with the color and texture of the wall to which the cabinet adjoins, then the back wall may not be mounted. But if necessary, then a wall is cut out of ordinary plywood, based on the dimensions of the length and height of the rack.

Do-it-yourself rack assembly

So, all the necessary structural elements are prepared. Now the most important thing is to assemble the wooden rack into a single structure. It is best to use several different types fasteners: and self-tapping screws, and carpentry glue, and nails, and metal corners if necessary.

Shelf mounting options

First, the lowest shelf is taken for the base, to which it is attached back wall shelving with self-tapping screws. If such a wall is not provided for by you, then immediately start working with the side walls. On the inside, you have already made markings for the shelves.

So now, on each of the markings, parallel to each other, it is necessary to fix special metal or plastic (depending on the intended load for the shelves) holders on which you can put wooden shelves. Further, these sidewalls are mounted to the lower base using self-tapping screws. At the same time, do not forget to observe the evenness of all corners. For reliability, it is even better to use metal corners as fixing elements.

But this was the first version of the shelves. There is also another - a solid mount. Here you do not need to make holders. In this case, the shelves will be directly connected to the sides. To do everything right, first attach the side walls to the base with screws, after which one person should hold the shelf inside the rack according to the markings, and the other should fasten it with screws from the outside of the sidewalls. From under the bottom of the shelf, it is advisable to additionally fix all the same metal corners. But keep in mind that this method is a little more complicated, as it requires perfect measurements of the length of the internal shelves, as well as more time and care to work. Any distortion can ruin the rack. Therefore, immediately use the building level.

So, the main part is ready. Now it remains to fix the rack cover on top, which will give the rack a finished look and protect the topmost shelf from dust on it. Fastening is carried out using all the same screws.

The manufacture of the rack (in particular, during the assembly process) will be more reliable if, after drilling holes for self-tapping screws, you coat them inside with carpentry glue. This will provide additional reliability. As the legs for the rack, it is best to use furniture legs on wheels. So it will be much more convenient to move the structure if necessary, and it will be able to withstand any load, while not provoking distortions.

DIY wooden rack is ready! Its main part will look something like in Fig. 1. This simple and practical design is suitable for any room: kitchen, bedroom, hall. Now you just have to cover the rack with wood varnish and let it dry properly.
