  4. Vine, rattan. Armchairs made from eco-friendly materials, will decorate any interior, but special skills are needed to work with them. In addition, rattan does not grow in our country.

frame material

The base of the chair can be made from different materials.

  1. Gymnastic hoop. Suitable only for a child seat, for an adult its strength is not enough, because the cross-sectional diameter is 16 mm, and for the frame of the chair you need 2 times more.
  2. Metal pipe. The product from it will turn out to be durable, but heavy - at least 7 kg. For its manufacture, pipe bending equipment is required.
  3. Wood. The design will be durable, lightweight, environmentally friendly. Since the material absorbs moisture and dries out in the sun, wood for outdoor chairs must be treated with impregnations. This will protect the material from decay.
  4. Metal pipes. Durable, lightweight and non-corrosive material. When using coiled pipes, there is no need to bend them. The ends of the segment are connected with a wooden or plastic insert and fixed with self-tapping screws.

Do not use dilapidated material in the manufacture of chairs: such furniture will not last long.

How to make a wicker nest chair: step by step photos

By making the seat flat and providing the structure with sides, you can get a nest chair. For such a rocking chair you will need:

  • two hoops made of a metal-plastic pipe with a cross section of 35 mm: for a seat with a diameter of 70 cm, for a backrest - 110 cm;
  • polyamide cord 4 mm thick - 900 m;
  • sling or strong rope - 12 m;
  • a thicker cord to connect the seat and backrest.

To make this chair, you need to be able to weave.

  1. First, braid both hoops:
    • wrap the pipe with a cord (it is worth taking a cord with a polypropylene core, as it will help to make a stronger knit);
    • pull the thread well (each next turn should fit evenly and tightly against the previous one);
    • every 20 turns, fasten the thread, pulling it as much as possible and twisting it;
    • for greater strength, coat the weaving with glue.
  2. At regular intervals, fasten with a double loop on the braid of the hoop pieces of the cord folded in half. They should take half the length of the hoop.
  3. Weave the bottom of the chair with flat knots in a checkerboard pattern, securing the remaining ends to a free semicircle. The tension of the cords when weaving should be quite strong. It's not scary if the hoop is slightly deformed, in the future the shape will be restored.
  4. Connect the finished seat and back hoop by wrapping them together with a cord in front of the structure.
  5. At the back, connect the seat and the back hoop with two wooden spacer rods, making cuts at their ends for a strong attachment. The length of the spacers is selected in accordance with the desired backrest height.
  6. Attach the cords to the upper arc of the back and weave from top to bottom. Fasten the rest of the cords to the seat and form brushes out of them.
  7. Connect the upper arch of the backrest and the seat with a thick cord parallel to the spacers, and then remove them.
  8. Tie to finished construction slings. They also need to be made using the macrame technique from cords.
  9. Hang up a chair.

  2. The finished frame is braided with a cord using macrame technique, sheathed with fabric or crocheted.
  3. For someone who knows how to work with wood, the frame is easy to cut out of thick plywood.

Mounting suspended rocking chairs to the ceiling, rack, beam

For any suspended structures, the main thing is reliable fastening. The safety of those who will use the chair depends on it. There are several mounting options:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the stand-leg;
  • to a tree branch or beam (for the street).

If indoors stretch ceiling, then installing the mount will be problematic. In this case, you need to mount the structure before fixing the ceiling or you should purchase a special stand-leg.

Consider different mounting options.

  1. You can drill a hole in the concrete ceiling, install a powerful anchor with a hook for hanging the structure. On sale there are special sets consisting of an anchor, a hook and a chain. Fasteners must withstand a weight of at least 120 kg.
  2. Voids in the ceiling through the hole must be filled with a special solution of high strength polymers - chemical anchors. Such compounds are sold in tubes for building syringes. Then you need to insert the anchor into the hole and wait a day until the composition is completely dry.
  3. For a ceiling with solid floor beams or for a terrace and a street, bolting is suitable.
  4. For false ceiling it is worth purchasing a special suspension that has a bracket that is attached to the concrete ceiling and exits through the suspension. A hook is attached to it.

    Mounting bracket is mounted on concrete ceiling, then a hook is screwed to it

  5. Slings are tied to a tree branch with a strong knot.
  6. The leg stand can be purchased at the store. It is convenient because the chair is not fixed permanently in one place and can be moved, and if necessary, disassembled and transported.

Do-it-yourself rack drawing

The simplest stand-leg for a hanging chair can really be done independently.

  1. The wooden rack consists of only 5 parts, but it cannot be made without special equipment, all parts are bent.
  2. The most common option is a metal rack. To make it you will need metal pipe, pipe bending equipment and welding.
  3. A simple version of a metal rack: the design does not require complex drawings and special skills.

    For stability, a simple metal rack is attached to a vertical support with a chain or cable.

To fully relax, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money. With a creative approach to business, relaxation will become not only relaxation in a hanging chair, but also the process of its manufacture. And the product will cause legitimate pride.

    Who Invented the Hanging Chair?

    The first hanging wicker swing chair was developed by the eminent designer from Denmark - Nanna Ditzel, and since the model of the chair resembled an egg in shape, the designer dubbed it "Egg" - an egg. This significant event took place in 1957, and already in 1968, a Finnish designer named Eero Aarnio, recreated a chair made of plastic - a spherical shape.

    What are hanging chairs?

    This voluminous chair, often made of durable wicker, raffia, rattan or plastic, this product is fixed on a special hook or bracket to the ceiling surface or ceiling beam, with the exception of models of chairs with a provided metal base, on which, in general, the structure is fixed. Such a model is called mobile, since it can be moved to another place at any time or even transferred to an adjacent room.

    At the moment, hanging chairs are divided into several types:

    1. With main attachment to the ceiling area;
    2. Portable (on a stable platform);
    3. Fixed (fixed to the ceiling and floor);
    4. Swing (fixed only on the ceiling or mobile stand);
    5. Wicker hanging chair (rattan, vine, bamboo, raffia);
    6. Plastic (transparent or tinted);
    7. Textile, but with a wooden or plastic frame.

Therefore, for outdoor arbors, verandas and terraces, it is better to purchase a hanging chair from, and experts recommend giving preference to artificial rattan, which, by its properties, tolerates various natural phenomena much better. True, for the winter, such chairs should still be brought into a covered, not ventilated and not damp room.

    ✓ A hanging rocking chair should be combined in style with the overall design of the room, for example, a wicker chair will fit perfectly into the interior, and a plastic model will emphasize;

    ✓ It is better to buy a plastic chair for the kitchen, without unnecessary parts (it is easier to clean);

    ✓ In a small room, it is better to purchase a compact hanging chair;

    ✓ Try to place the suspended structure in such a way that it does not interfere with free movement around the room;

    ✓ When choosing a chair, do not forget that it should be not only beautiful, but also, first of all, comfortable.

    Childhood passes, but the desire to at least sometimes ride a swing and stay in limbo does not leave. If at least sometimes you have such a desire, then do not suppress it, but get yourself a hanging chair and enjoy weightlessness and comfort every day. Don't believe it's possible? Then we invite you to the virtual world of hanging furniture, where, together with the Dream House website, we will not only see the types of such chairs, but also decide how to use them in the interior.

    What is a hanging chair

    For the first time, a hanging chair for the home was created by a designer from Denmark in the middle of the last century. Despite its venerable age, it, as before, belongs to the category designer furniture. However, in recent years it has been increasingly used for arranging country houses and city apartments. Ergonomic design, modern materials and an unusual shape make you opt for a hanging chair.

    What does it represent? This is a comfortable bed, mainly wicker or rattan, or made of modern materials like acrylic or plastic, which is suspended from the ceiling by a hook. Thus, it turns out that in it you can swing in different directions, as in childhood on a swing. By the way, the second name of this unusual “flying” furniture is a hanging swing chair, which fully justifies its name.

    Many people are interested in the question, how much weight of a seated person can a chair suspended from the ceiling withstand? This question should be asked directly to the seller, because depending on the different models and materials, the indicator may vary - some chairs can withstand a person weighing up to 100 kg, while others can hold heavyweights up to 150 kg in their "embraces".

    Types of modern hanging chairs

    Hanging chairs may differ in shape and material of manufacture, but, as a rule, they all allow you to sit and sway back and forth, left and right, and even diagonally. An exception is only one type of chair, which is attached not only to the top of the hook, but also attached to the bottom. If we draw analogies, then this design is similar to the fastening of a punching bag, which is fixed to the floor and to the ceiling. As you understand, on such a chair it will not be possible to sway from side to side, it will only allow it to rotate around its axis.

    The frame of such a chair can also be of several options. The wicker rattan and wicker hanging chair has a rigid body, as do modern egg chairs made of clear plastic or acrylic. For the convenience of location, soft mattresses and are placed inside.

    But there is also a softer option - this is a hanging hammock chair, which looks like a real fabric hammock, only smaller.

    Which one you prefer is up to you, but perhaps the most comfortable models are those that allow you to retire and abstract from external fuss - these are cocoon chairs, closed on three sides with wicker walls and comfortably enveloping the person sitting inside.

    There are even wicker models that are made in the form of a drop with a small window designed only to climb inside. And then you find yourself in your own separate world, full of comfort and enjoyment of loneliness.

    Hanging chairs on a frame or stand

    As you already know, hanging chairs are hung from the ceiling or wooden beams, but there are also those that are fixed on a metal rack standing on the floor. These models are the most functional because:

    • firstly, they are mobile - such chairs can be moved and installed anywhere at home and even on the street;
    • secondly, the frame itself can be detached from the rack and suspended from the ceiling.

    In the second case, the hanging chair can be turned into the main accent of the room. For these purposes, an extraordinary model is suitable (for example, with engraving and LED backlight) placed right in the middle of the room. In order not to be considered a sole proprietor, install another chair opposite your bed for your soulmate.

    But let's get back to the backlit chair mentioned earlier. This original masterpiece of design thought will allow you to maximum comfort relax after a hard day's work. The pattern on the surface of the ball is applied based on your preferences for an individual order, whether it will be funny openwork curls or a futuristic web, it's up to you. But besides this, even the color of the backlight can be chosen to your taste - depending on your mood, you can change the color of the luminous ball, for example, it will relax and relieve tension of a soft green or light green color, at the same time, if you are in high spirits, then red color will suit more.

    Hanging chair for summer cottage and garden

    Hanging chairs for the street can be attributed to a separate type. If indoor furniture can be made from any material, outdoor seating will require a chair made from materials that are resistant to natural disasters. It must withstand high humidity and the scorching sun.

    It is better to choose a hanging chair for a summer residence or for open ones from artificial rattan - unlike its natural counterpart, it can better withstand the influence of atmospheric phenomena and, therefore, is more durable. But even such furniture must be removed from the street in winter time. The best place storage during an unused period is an unheated room (but not a damp barn).

    Whatever hanging chair you look at, the main thing is to choose it for the interior or exterior, so that in shape and dimensions it fits well into the environment. But the most important thing is that a chair suspended from a ceiling or a frame should be comfortable, so before buying, test it not only for strength, but also for comfort. Feel free to place yourself in a cozy cocoon right in the store!
