How the f 05 sink is attached to the countertop. Step-by-step installation of a kitchen sink and useful tips for tie-in. How to fix the sink to the countertop with your own hands

1 Ergonomics in the kitchen

Food preparation should be accurate and fast. This is primarily influenced by the location. kitchen furniture and technology. In accordance with the principles of ergonomics, kitchen equipment must be arranged depending on the order of work, that is, from left to right: refrigerator, Dishwasher, sink, stove, and between them work surfaces with cabinets.

The minimum distance between individual devices must be:

  • 40 cm between refrigerator and sink, as well as between sink and stove,
  • 40 cm between refrigerator and stove.

For right-handers, the most convenient is the placement of individual workspaces from right to left. Regarding the sink, this means that the sink should be on the right and the dryer on the left.

It is best if the sink is mounted near the connection to the water supply and sewerage system.

The drainage system at the sink is made of pipes and siphons with a diameter of 40 and 50 mm.

2 Types of sinks

When choosing a kitchen sink, you should pay attention to the following factors:

  • Spaciousness. It determines the number and size of daily washed dishes.
  • Functionality. It is determined by the nature of the work carried out in the kitchen, the number of additional bowls in the sink and wings for drying. If you have to carry out several personal manipulations in the sink at the same time, then these compartments will be very useful.
  • The convenience of use. You should be comfortable standing and working at the sink.
  • Stability and durability. These parameters are determined by the material from which the sink is made.
  • Combination with the interior of the kitchen. The sink must match the style, design, color scheme and, of course, the size of the entire kitchen.

In terms of installation, there are two main types of sinks:

  • superimposed on kitchen cupboard(overhead),
  • built into the kitchen worktop (mortise).

When installing built-in sinks, it is necessary to accurately cut a hole in the countertop for the selected sink. In the case of chipboard, this is not big problem, but if the countertop is made of stone, conglomerate or composite, then you cannot do without special tools for cutting.

MATERIALS USED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF SINKS

Surface-mounted sinks are made of stainless or enameled steel. The two most common finishes for steel sinks are smooth and linen textured.

Mortise sinks are made from stainless steel, mineral epoxy composites and hard plastics.

Composite sinks often have a spectacular grain structure, reminiscent of polished stone. Sinks made of artificial materials can be completely monochrome. This group of kitchen accessories is characterized by an effective appearance and high resistance to abrasion, scratches, dents and high temperatures.

WASHING SHAPES

Most wide range shapes and varieties have steel sinks. In addition to the usual one-bowl sinks, there are sinks with several bowls (usually 2-4), which can be both shallow and deep, with additional side dryers.

3 Installation of a surface sink

  1. The overhead sink is designed for installation on standard pedestals with a standard width of 50, 60, 80 cm. For installation, you need: a tape measure, a screwdriver, 4 wood screws, clamps for an overhead sink 4 pcs, sanitary silicone.
  2. Installation is carried out after installing the cabinet in the place chosen in the kitchen.
  3. We determine how far the sink should hang over the front wall of the cabinet. Subtract the second dimension from the first and get the distance where the screws should be screwed.
  4. We screw the screws into the upper part of the walls of the cabinet - do not screw them all the way, the heads should stick out a little so that they can snap into the holes in the base of the sink.
  5. We insert the sink - the heads of the screws should enter the round fragments of the holes.
  6. Push the sink towards the wall so that the screws lock at the end of the base.
  7. Check if the sink is firmly inserted; if it moves, remove it and tighten the screws.
  8. Insert it back into the cabinet.
  9. This installation method ensures a stable installation of the sink. If there is a metal apron on the back of the sink, it should rest firmly against the wall.

4 Installation of a mortise sink

Mortise sinks are designed for installation in kitchen worktops.

The first step is to cut an appropriate hole in the countertop. In wood and laminated worktops particle boards cut the hole with a jigsaw on wood.

For countertops made of stone, conglomerates or composites, special devices are used when cutting holes, so this service must be ordered at the time of purchase. In this case, it is necessary to indicate the dimensions of the hole and the exact place of installation of the sink. The size of the hole for the sink is obtained by measuring the length and width of the apron on the bottom of the sink.

ATTENTION

The hole should be 0.5 cm wider and longer than the apron.

1. The apron is used for stable installation of the sink. Some sinks come with a sample sink hole that you only need to draw on the countertop.

2. Cut a hole in the countertop with a jigsaw.

3. Insert the seal under the sink, which is included with the sink.

ATTENTION

Wooden and laminated worktops must be protected from moisture after cutting the hole. We cover the edges of the cut hole abundantly with sanitary silicone. After it dries, you can proceed with the installation of the sink.

Steel sinks are fixed in the hole with clamps. Top part fasteners are attached to the holes drilled in the sink apron. The lower part rests against the bottom of the tabletop. Both parts are connected with a screw. Tightening the screw, clamp the mount and fix the sink in the hole.

4. After centering the sink in the hole, fasten the first fastener. We do not twist it to the end, leaving a little free.

5. In the same way, we fasten the mount located opposite.

6. In turn, carefully fasten all the fasteners.

7. The last stage of installation is to tighten all the screws in turn so that the sink rests on the countertop with its entire contour.

8. We set the mounting points for the latches in the hole cut in the countertop in accordance with the drawing attached to the product by the sink manufacturer.

9. We screw the clamps into the designated places. They can be from 6 to 12 pieces.

10. Glue a self-adhesive sealing tape along the edges of the sink, which, depending on the manufacturer, is included in the kit or sold separately.

11. We fix the sink by carefully inserting it into the hole in the countertop. First, the countertop will rest against the edge of the apron on the tabs of the latches.

12. We squeeze the sink in the places where the latches are mounted. The tabs will snap into place in the recesses made on the sink apron. After fixing is completed, you can proceed with the installation of the mixer and the siphon for draining.

ATTENTION

Precise latches and a precisely cut hole ensure that the sink is properly fixed.

I think what is meant is the procedure for installing a mortise sink in a countertop (usually a kitchen one).

To work, we need a jigsaw, a screwdriver and a drill (or another tool for drilling - a screwdriver successfully combines both functions), silicone sealant with a gun for it, a simple pencil.

We put the sink on the countertop and circle its outline with a pencil. Stepping back 1-1.5 cm from the edge inside the contour, draw another one.

We drill a through hole for a jigsaw file - it should be adjacent to the inner contour without going beyond its edges.

Cut through hole. At the last stage, it is necessary to hold the cut piece from below in order to prevent it from falling out. This is fraught with the formation of chips and damage to the countertop.

We put screw clamps on the sink itself (in the mounting eyes). We glue the sealing strip from the inside. We generously coat with sealant and install in place.

Sealant can also be added to the seam so that it stands out evenly around the entire perimeter.

We tighten the screw clamps, pulling the sink to the countertop.

Remove excess sealant.

How to attach a stainless steel sink to a cabinet.

Let's dry.

Kitchen sinks are divided into built-in and overhead. The surface of the washing panel can be located at the level of the desktop or on the plane of the tabletop. Mixer bowls must be fixed between sections kitchen set. The curbstone intended for fastening of a laid on sink is a separate element of a kitchen interior. Integrated mortise sinks are mounted on the surface of the desktop of headsets and floor modules. Overhead sinks are the easiest to mount. They are a cabinet with a sink, which is complemented by a panel for storing kitchen items.

  • The panel is fixed on the pedestal using brackets and slides into the grooves of the pedestal using special slides.
  • The sink may come with an adhesive seal that is inserted into the groove of the panel. This prevents moisture penetration.
  • Rubber seals, as a rule, do not adhere tightly to the butt surfaces, and have a rather short service life. Therefore, it is rational to replace them with a moisture-resistant sealant, which will help fill the gaps and retain its properties when dried.
  • If the underframe does not have internal elements, this allows access to repair pipelines, as well as to clean the siphon and sewer pipes.
  • Supporting bars must be attached under the overhead sink, which will help to significantly increase the strength of the structure.
  • Before attaching the sink to the countertop, a mixer is mounted, and water supply hoses and a siphon are also installed.
  • The overhead sink is fixed with special fasteners, having an L-shape and an overhead slot. For reliable fastening, it is enough to install 5 such elements. Pre-mark on the inside of the cabinet places for fastening self-tapping screws. It is better to screw in the screws with a screwdriver, as using a screwdriver can damage the countertop.
  • The sink bowls can be different, so you need to transfer the geometric parameters of the bowl to the surface of the countertop as accurately as possible. Most often, manufacturers of mortise sinks attach a special template to the kitchen set, according to which it will not be difficult to draw a special shape of the hole.
  • Make a cut line from the sides of the bowl by about 1 centimeter. Mark the contour points, insert a jigsaw and cut a hole to fit the bowl. Do not forget that masking tape must be glued on the outside of the contour to protect the surface of the countertop from damage by the jigsaw foot.
  • When installing a conventional mortise sink, the cut line does not require additional processing.

    But at the same time, the edge must be perfectly even. This will help in the future to ensure complete tightness of the connection and a decorative appearance.

  • Clean the cut surface. Apply a layer of sealant and install the sink. After the sealant has completely dried, fix the sink with clamps. When planning to install individual elements of the headset in the kitchen, use an underframe with an overhead sink.

Together with the new sink, there should be, in the kit, fasteners. If there are no fasteners, then you can use small metal corners, I did this at home. There is not a big nuance, before buying corners with self-tapping screws, decide on the thickness of the material from which the countertop is made, too long self-tapping screws can go through. In general, ordinary silicone can easily and tightly hold the sink, if it is applied correctly, correctly, it is over the entire surface. It is also important to correctly mark and cut a hole for the kitchen sink, it (the hole) should not be too wide, the sink should fit into it tightly and securely, plus room for bumpers. If you don’t want to engage in amateur activities, then special sink mounts are sold separately, just say “sink mount” in the store, they are sold individually, depending on the configuration of the sink, decide on the quantity, four mounts are enough for a square one, enough for a round one two.

Installing a kitchen sink with your own hands - a master class on inserting a kitchen sink into a countertop

Installing a kitchen sink is not a difficult task, which does not require much effort and time, everyone can cope with this work.

Attaching sinks to kitchen countertops

When installing the sink, it is important to correctly mark and cut a hole in the countertop, and to protect the countertop from moisture, it is necessary to isolate the junction of the sink and the countertop well.

Marking the countertop for installing the sinkCutting the countertop under the sinkFastening the kitchen sink to the countertop

To install a kitchen sink, you will need: a drill or a screwdriver, a drill with a diameter of 10 mm (preferably for wood), a jigsaw, and silicone sealant. You also need a set of special fasteners and sealing tape. If the kitchen sink is new, then in most cases the hardware is included, and the sealing tape is already glued to the sink. If you are going to install an old sink, then you should purchase an installation kit in advance. If the old sink has a seal, it is advisable to replace it with a new one.

Marking the countertop for installing the sink

Before proceeding with the installation, make a markup on the countertop. If you are installing a new sink, a special template is supplied with it. As a rule, this pattern is printed on the package. It must be cut out, attached to the countertop and circled, thus forming the line of the future cut. When marking and positioning the template, it should be taken into account that the minimum distance of the sink from the edge of the countertop is 5 cm.

If there is no template, you can proceed as follows: lay the sink on the countertop and circle it with a pencil.

Fig.1. For marking, use the template that comes with the sink. It is fixed on the countertop with masking tape and circled. In the absence of a template, the sink is placed on the countertop and circled with a pencil. The distance between the sink and the front edge of the countertop should be at least 5 cm. Next, remove the sink and indent 1-1.5 cm from the sink contour, draw the second circuit - this will be the drank line.

It is important to pay attention to one point. If the offset is less than necessary, then cracks may form between the sink and the countertop, and as a result, positioning the sink relative to the countertop will be very problematic. If the indentation is large, then the sink may not fit, in most cases due to fasteners, there will also be difficulties, because. the cut under the sink will have to be adjusted.

To avoid these problems, do the following. Before marking, it is necessary to install the fasteners on the sink and measure the exact distance from the edge of the sink to the fasteners and reduce it by 2 mm. The resulting value will be the size by which you need to indent.

Sawing countertops under the sink

The next step in installing a kitchen sink is cutting a hole in the countertop. The hole is cut with a jigsaw. However, you need to make a few holes first. These holes are needed so that you can lower the jigsaw file into the body of the countertop.

Fig.2. According to the markings made, a hole is drilled with a drill with a diameter of 10 mm. The hole is necessary so that the jigsaw blade can go down into the body of the countertop. It is convenient to make several holes in the corners of the sink and in the middle of each side, this will facilitate the work of cutting out the place for the sink.

Please note that the hole must be drilled not in the center of the line, but somewhat offset. Otherwise, there is a chance that the seal on the sink will not adhere well to the countertop.

It is advisable to use a narrow file for sawing the countertop, especially if the sink is round. The narrow saw blade makes it much easier to cut curved lines. In order to avoid large chips in the plastic, it is necessary to use a special file with a reverse tooth direction, for example, a file for laminate.

Attaching a kitchen sink to a countertop

To fix the sink on the countertop, special fasteners are installed on the sink and a sealant is glued along the contour, in case of its absence.

Fig.3. The sink is placed in the prepared groove in the countertop. To protect the countertop from moisture, a sealant is applied to the gap between the sink and the countertop, after which the fasteners are tightened. Fasteners should be tightened according to the diagram given on the sink packaging. In case of its absence, tightening must be done diagonally, i.e. tighten the fasteners one by one, located opposite each other. After fixing the countertop, an excess of sealant will stand out around its perimeter. As soon as it hardens, it must be cut with a knife.

An important step in installing a sink is to protect the countertop from moisture. Often it is recommended to seal the end of the countertop with sealant and additionally apply sealant between the sink and the countertop. This is not always justified, for two reasons. Firstly, if you ensure the tightness of the connection between the sink and the countertop, which is not difficult to do, then moisture will never get on the unprotected end of the countertop. Secondly, most countertops are made of moisture-proof board, and perfectly tolerate water ingress.

Given the above, it is advisable to process only the junction of the countertop and sink. In order to make the connection airtight, it is necessary to put the sink on the countertop and seal the gap between the sink and the countertop with sealant. Then fix the sink with the help of countertop fasteners. After the sink fasteners are tightened and the sink is firmly pressed against the countertop, excess silicone sealant should stand out from under it. You should not remove it immediately, because. it can be simply smeared on the sink and countertop, and then it will be problematic to remove it. You should wait until it hardens and cut off the excess with a sharp knife.

Fasteners must be tightened in a certain way. If you still have the packaging from the sink, then the tightening order diagram is there. If there is no diagram, then tightening must be done diagonally.

You should also pay attention that if you have a thin countertop, then the fasteners will not attract the sink well, and you may need to install additional spacers, as in the photo above.

We have considered all the features of the kitchen sink tie-in.

Installation of a sink consists of several stages - this is marking, sawing out a niche for a sink and fixing a sink. Has the greatest features final stage washing installations. They mainly consist in the fact that it is necessary to seal the junction of the sink and countertop well to protect the latter from moisture. Also, the sealing of the connection is affected by the uniformity of tightening of the sink fasteners. If all the features of installing a kitchen sink are observed, then there will be no problems during its operation.

All sinks from artificial stone have a matte finish.

In case of surface contamination, most in a simple way care will be wiping with a damp cloth. Also, for cleaning, you can use a soap solution or dishwashing detergent.

The surface of the stone should be cleaned with mild detergents that do not contain abrasive particles and acid-containing elements. At education limescale or stains from dried water, the surface should be treated with a composition of white wine vinegar (5% solution), diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 1, so that a solution of 2.5% concentration is obtained.

Periodically clean the sink with a solution of water and bleach. Fill the sink one-quarter full with the solution, let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse and wipe.
If the inside of the sink becomes covered with solid sediment, fill it overnight with a solution of bleach or biological powder.

Hard water can form a coating on the surface of an artificial stone product, which can be easily removed with appropriate cleaning agents used according to the manufacturer's instructions. Wipe the entire surface of the product with a sponge and detergent, leave for a few minutes, then rinse with water and wipe dry.

Do not use wax polishes or oil/silicone cleaners. They leave a greasy film on the surface, the removal of which requires considerable effort.

In addition, fingerprints are especially noticeable on surfaces treated with such products.

It is recommended to periodically disinfect the surface with sanitary ware cleaners or with a solution of chlorine and powder. Sometimes after such a procedure, plaque remains on the surface of artificial stone. It can be neutralized with any cleaning agent approved by the manufacturer. It is not recommended to use cleaners with abrasives when caring for artificial stone. This can seriously damage the surface.

Environmental friendliness

Fake diamond - modern material, which has such unique property, as high environmental friendliness (the material is easy to clean and does not emit harmful substances, since it does not absorb dirt from the environment).

The properties of artificial stone are such that they give an excellent rebuff to various kinds of bacteria, mold and fungi.

Its ecological purity and immunity against bacteria are proven by experiments in the laboratory.

Tips and contraindications

Do not expose artificial stone sinks to harsh chemicals. If cleaning agents such as paint thinners, metal cleaners, oven cleaners, methylene chloride, acetone (nail polish remover), acidic cleaners, get on the surface of the artificial stone product, immediately wash them off with plenty of water and water. soap. Nail polish is cleaned with acetone-free nail polish remover and then washed off with water. Despite the high strength of products made of artificial stone swipe a heavy or sharp object may damage it and leave marks.

Do not use chemicals that have a strong effect.

Before pouring boiling water into a sink made of artificial stone, you need to turn on cool water.

It is not difficult to install a sink in the countertop on your own. To do this, you need to prepare in advance a certain set of tools and materials:

  • jigsaw,
  • drill or screwdriver
  • level,
  • screwdriver,
  • pliers,
  • clamps,
  • sealant.

Everything else that can be useful is in every home. This is a pencil, tape measure or ruler, rags, a knife, etc.

Next stage- cutting a hole, the most crucial moment. If the countertop is removed from the furniture, then you need to put it so that it is convenient to saw. Next, drill holes with a drill with a diameter of 10 mm at the four corners of the marked line under the jigsaw blade. Using a jigsaw, cut a hole strictly along the line. At the end of cutting, carefully clean the cut from dust and sawdust. (photo 3)

Now the cut point, cleaned of foreign particles, must be carefully treated with a sealant using a brush or spatula. It could be withsilicone, epoxy or other sealant.

Sink fixture: an overview of the different ways to mount sinks

The cut must be smeared without gaps, with a uniform layer. (photo 4, 5)

In the future, this sealant will not allow water to get inside the countertop and save it from damage.

It is worth paying attention that it depends on what material the countertop is made of, and what material to process the edges with. Silicone is used for stone countertops. Alcohol sealants may also be used on wood or plastic. Be sure to wait a while for the sealant to “seize”.

Mounting: Set the tabletop in place on the level and secure. Now it's time to install the sink itself. She also sits on the countertop using sealant. To do this, carefully coat the edges of the sink on the reverse side with sealant, as close as possible to the edges of the sink. (photo 6, 7)

Then turn over and install the sink in the hole on the countertop. Gently press the sink with clamps and leave for a while to stick. Then we remove the excess sealant (photo 8, 9).

The last step in installing a kitchen sink will be installing a faucet and drains.

Connecting pipes to drains should also not give you any difficulties, but nevertheless, to carry out work of this class, you must have the appropriate knowledge. At this stage, the remaining tools and materials listed at the beginning of our article will come in handy.

A new sink and a new faucet will transform your kitchen just as much as a new countertop or new crockery. BUT self-installation will allow you to make this new thing at any time convenient for you.

Friends, good afternoon. If you are faced with the task of embedding a kitchen sink, and you do not know how to do it, then this post is for you.

WHAT TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHEN CHOOSE INTERNET WASHING

Kitchen sinks vary in shape, material, type and price. Most often, a mortise, metal sink is purchased for a kitchen set.

If your choice fell on such a sink, then pay attention to the following points:

  • It is better if the size of the sink is smaller than the size of the cabinet itself (in fact, it is possible to embed the sink into a smaller cabinet, but this is more troublesome);
  • It is better if the sink metal thickness is at least 0.8 mm;
  • On the bottom, from its outer side, a sound-proof lining must be glued, or the entire sink from the outer side is covered with a special sound-proof compound. This is done so that the sound of falling water is more muffled;
  • Deep washing is always more convenient;
  • Pay attention to the completeness of the sink;
  • The sink should not be curved or propeller driven;
  • Pay attention to the sink mount. The fastening metal should not be soft;
  • Sinks come with left and right wings;
  • Chinese analogues of sinks are cheaper than European ones from 2 times and more.

HOW TO CORRECTLY MAKE A DRINK UNDER THE WASH

On the Internet, this item is written minimalistically and smeared, something like this: “Correctly mark and cut with a jigsaw.” Let's look at how to properly mark the drank under the sink.

For example, you bought a round sink and you need to cut it into a cabinet by 800 mm. If a template is attached to the sink, then everything is simple, but if it is not there, then we do the following.

STAGE 1. Looking for a location

The first task is to decide where it is better to place the sink. I explain - in our example, the sink is round 51 (or 49) cm in diameter, and the cabinet itself is 80 cm, therefore, it can be moved to the left or right, or cut in the center.

Pay special attention to the layout of the sink in the corner version (option 90 gr.) of the kitchen, since the convenience of approaching the sink depends on your choice.

STEP 2. How far back from the wall?

Having decided on the choice of location, put the sink on the countertop upside down. Now you need to decide how much you need to retreat from the wall. This item is especially important if your sink is 51 cm deep. If you mark such a sink exactly in the middle of the countertop, then it is likely that your saw will pass along the front bar of the pedestal (this depends on the design of the pedestal itself). The easiest way is to attach a kitchen plinth to the wall and step back 1-2 cm from it. This place will be the outer edge of the sink.

If the cut line still goes along the body of the cabinet, then you must either pull back the bar of the cabinet, or remove the countertop from the body, cut it out and put it back in place.

We take a pencil and outline the outer contour of the sink.

STAGE 3. Draw a cutting line

Now we need to decide on the line of the cut itself.

To do this, measure the distance from the outer edge of the sink to the fasteners (mounting lugs). Usually this size: 1-3 cm, but it can be different for different sinks.

We already have a drawn outline of the outer contour of the sink. Now we measure from it the just measured distance inside the future sink and draw an internal contour. This is the saw line.

Stage 4. Cutting

With a drill, from the inside of the contour, next to the cut line, we make a through hole. We make it so that the jigsaw blade passes.

We cut with a jigsaw along the contour of the cut. When sawing, do not rush and do not press hard with a jigsaw.

It is better to cut with a “Clean Cut” blade. If the sink is rectangular, then molar tape can be used to avoid chipping. When choosing a file, consider the height of the cut.

Stage 5. Preparing the cut

After sawing, it is necessary to process the edges of the saw cut.

Align the cut with large sandpaper and try on the sink with fasteners.

If everything is fine, then we clean the saw cut from dust and coat it with silicone.

Silicone, in the future, will not absorb moisture and swell the countertop.

Stage 6. Mounting the sink

Usually the sink is attached to the countertop with the faucet already installed, since it is extremely inconvenient to do this under the sink.

The new sink is completed with a sealing tape, which is glued along the edge of the sink into a special groove. For greater reliability, you can apply silicone around the edge.

We insert the fasteners into the ears of the sink, with hooks to the countertop, bend them inward and insert the sink into the sawn hole.

We move the structure a little so that the sink sits correctly and tightly. Fasteners hook the sink to the countertop as shown in the figure and use a screwdriver to pull the sink to the countertop. Don't overdo the washer.

It is not worth pulling the sink with a screwdriver, as it is very easy for them to turn the fastening thread.

The tightening force is felt by hand, and some fasteners are very weak in tightening.

  • If you have drunk more under the sink than you need (but not more than the sink itself), then it is easier to fix it with the help of fasteners if you attach plywood inserts from the inside, at the fastening points. We expose some edges of the waders to the sink, at the right distance, while we fasten the others to the countertop.
  • Sometimes sink fasteners well attract the structure to a thick countertop, but do not attract it to a thin one. With the help of all the same inserts, you can artificially increase the countertop at the attachment points.
  • If you have broken off all the fastening ears on the sink, then you can simply glue it with silicone, putting a load for the time of gluing.
  • If you have a sink, but no fixtures, then you can buy a sink attachment kit in the store. Usually it consists of the fasteners themselves and the sealing tape.
  • It happens that you attract the sink, and the fasteners either slide off the edges of the cut, or unbend. In this case, you can screw the fasteners to the countertop with a self-tapping screw and then the fasteners will not move out.

That's all. There will be questions - write.

Today you can install the kitchen sink that you like. Moreover, it is not at all necessary to contact a qualified specialist for this - usually such a procedure as installing a sink into a countertop with your own hands can be done quite well. But in any case, the kitchen sink has a truly strategic importance, and therefore its choice and especially installation should be approached with all responsibility.

Types of sinks by installation method

There are several technologies for installing a kitchen sink at once. The choice of one or another option depends, first of all, on the type of construction of the sink itself.

It is not surprising that representatives of the latter group are most popular today. They, unlike overhead models, provide high-quality sealing, but at the same time they are much cheaper than under-table counterparts. In short, the best value for money.

Key features of choosing a sink

Even before buying a sink and starting work, you must decide which product you will install. It is better to give preference to deep sinks and fairly low faucets - splashes in this case during washing dishes will be minimal. The large depth of the sink is needed so that it is convenient for you to put dirty dishes there or wash large pots.

In addition, pay attention to the material - it is much easier to embed a traditional sink made of "stainless steel" on your own. Although enameled steel can be considered another good option.

On a note! As for a particular manufacturer, here one should proceed solely from financial capabilities and personal preferences.

What do you need to tie in a kitchen sink?

To insert the sink into the countertop with your own hands, you must prepare the following materials and tools:

  • pencil;
  • electric drill, metal drill for it (1 cm in diameter);
  • roulette;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • building corner;
  • sharp knife;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • sealant (sanitary or universal);
  • self-tapping screws (dimensions - 4x30 mm).

Note! It is important to prepare everything necessary equipment even before proceeding with the installation, otherwise you will have to spend time looking for them already in the course of work.

How to embed a sink into a countertop - step by step guide

At first glance, the installation procedure is nothing complicated. However, there are a number of nuances that pop up immediately after the start of work. Such nuances will be discussed - traditionally, in the form of an illustrated step-by-step instruction.

We have already talked about the criteria for choosing a kitchen sink, we will only add that if you want to purchase a budget option– we recommend paying attention to the German Franke sink, made of stainless steel. It will cost more than Chinese models, but it is made of thin high-quality steel, and not of “thick foil”, like them. It is such a sink that is installed in this example.

Almost all modern mortise sinks are sold in cardboard box, which additionally plays the role of a template for cutting into the countertop. This template first needs to be cut out for the subsequent installation of the sink.

Next, the cut out template must be placed on the countertop, and then aligned parallel to its sides. Then you should check if there are any elements under the chosen place that can interfere with the installation of the sink. When the optimal location of the product is chosen, the template must be fixed with masking tape and circled with a pencil.

Now you can start cutting the template, for which it is convenient to use an electric jigsaw. But first it is necessary to drill initial holes in the countertop with a diameter slightly larger than the size of the jigsaw blade.

It is also desirable to protect the perimeter around the future cutout with the same masking tape, otherwise the jigsaw may damage the countertop. It is not worth rushing directly during cutting, because the saw may deviate and the cutout will turn out to be crooked as a result.

When the opening is cut out, its edges should be treated with sanitary silicone (this will make the cut waterproof). Then you need to wait until the silicone hardens.

In our example (as you can see in the image below), you have to cut not only the countertop itself, but also certain elements of the kitchen furniture.

If so, once again you need to use the cardboard sink template, but this time on the inside of it.

Now you need to cut out the elements of the opening under the sink, and, again, treat all saw cuts with silicone.

After that, the sink can be tried on and see if everything fits. If everything is fine with this, you can proceed to further work.

Everything you need to assemble the siphon (it must be purchased separately) should be unpacked and checked, then there is a careful study of the assembly instructions.

There is nothing complicated in the assembly of the siphon itself, except that one of the tubes will need to be cut to size.

All communications must be completed before the sink is installed. In our example, this gas pipe from the balloon (it is orange) and water pipes(they're green).

Holes for water pipes should be made in the kitchen cabinet. Work should begin with marking the future location of the latter.

All excess must be cut with a jigsaw.

The next step is another treatment of sections with sanitary silicone.

Now you can lay water pipes (preferably, as in the example, polypropylene) to the sink and water purification filter.

Here is a diagram of the piping under the kitchen sink.

Before installing the sink, you should install a tap for drinking water.

Preparation for installation of the mixer. To mark the holes for it, you need to take a cardboard template in order to transfer their projection.

In accordance with the projection, holes should be drilled in the sink, through which the mixer will be attached.

The next step is to directly mount the mixer.

After that, you need to try on the fasteners for the sink. According to German developers, plastic latches for some reason will be quite enough to hold the product.

Note! In addition, in some places such latches are simply inconvenient to mount.

An alternative option is to use strips of mounting tape (they need to be threaded into the "ears" of the fasteners).

Also, before installing the product, the edges of the opening should be glued with a sealant.

The sink must be fixed with self-tapping screws through the mounting tape.

Everything, the kitchen sink is installed in the countertop! Now it remains to process all the gaps with a sanitary sealant, and cut off the remnants after the material has hardened.

Installation example without using the cardboard template

If such a template is missing for one reason or another, do not be discouraged, because the shell insert can be done without it. The procedure itself in this case is also nothing complicated, and a brief installation instruction is given in the table below.

Table. Master class on installing a kitchen sink in a countertop.

Steps, photoDescription of actions

Having chosen a suitable place, you need to turn the sink upside down and put it on the countertop where the product will be located. The position of the sink is leveled, for which a tape measure is used.

When installing the sink, do not forget about the overhangs of the countertops, as well as the connections of the kitchen cabinet. For this reason, the sink should be positioned in such a way that the fasteners do not rest against the connections of the lower cabinet, and the product itself does not protrude beyond its front surface.

Next, you need to outline the outline of the sink.

Sidewall lock. The width of the mortise opening will be less than that of the sink. In most cases, such sides are 1.4 cm wide, but it is advisable to check this.

The dimensions must be transferred to the countertop, and then mark the cut line.

Next, you need to take a drill with a diameter of 0.8-1 cm and use it to make through holes in the corners of the contour. The latter, as in the previous instructions, will be required in order to start a jigsaw file.

Insert a jigsaw file into one of the holes, and then cut the opening in accordance with the markings.

The hole is almost ready.

Now you need to carefully remove the sawn piece of the countertop.

The edges of the opening must be coated with silicone without fail. In the absence of a special device that can squeeze silicone out of the tube, you can use the handle of a simple hammer for this.

So, the edges are smeared with silicone.

Next, you need to prepare the seal and fasteners (all this should also be included in the kit).

The fasteners should be installed, but it is recommended to degrease the sides before gluing the sealant (for example, with the "646" solvent).

After that, the sides must be pasted over with a sealant.

The next step is to install the sink with all its fasteners in place. Before tightening the fasteners, you should once again check the position of the product and, if necessary, align it.

At the end, the fasteners must be tightened.

Everything, the sink is safely installed. Now it remains only to screw the mixer, hang the drain and connect the communications, but all this has already been described in detail in the previous section of the article.

In the end - a few more useful tips. If you want to properly install and connect the sink, remember three important nuances.

  1. Instead of rubber seals It is better to use silicone sealant. The fact is that rubber is unable to provide a snug fit, and its service life is short. But the sealant will qualitatively fill all the cracks and gaps.
  2. Fixing the sink with self-tapping screws is recommended to be done exclusively by hand. If you use a tool, this can lead to strong stress and, as a result, damage to the structure.
  3. If the sink is made of stone (artificial or natural), then a minimum of two people will be required for installation to avoid falling and damaging the product.

Note! When connecting the sink to communications, it is necessary to use rubber gaskets so that the joints are better sealed.

Caring for your stainless steel sink

The main thing is to prevent scratches and microcracks on the surface, and also follow the recommendations below.

  1. Avoid abrasive cleaners and metal sponges altogether. They leave cracks on the surface of the product, which (albeit not visible to the naked eye) will “grow” over time and become a serious external defect.
  2. It is not necessary to put heavy objects on the sink - they can lead not only to the damage mentioned above, but also to deformation.
  3. It is better to give preference to gel detergents because they are less aggressive.

If you follow these simple rules, you will be able to extend the life of the stainless steel kitchen sink and maintain the external attractiveness of the product for many years.

According to the principle of placement on the underframe, sinks are divided into overhead and built-in. The surface of the sink panel can be located above the plane of the countertop, be flush with it or be below the level of the desktop. In any case, the bowl for the mixer should be installed between the areas of the headset for placing dirty dishes and for cooking and serving dishes.

The cabinet, on which the overhead sink is attached, is often a separate element of the kitchen interior. Mortise and integrated washbasins are mounted in the solid surface of the worktop of the floor units of the sets.

Installing the overhead sink panel

Sink connection diagram: 1 - mixer pipe; 2 - gasket; 3 - fixing nut; 4 - flexible hose; 5 - pipeline supply; 6 - overflow hole; 7 - combined drain; eight - drain device; 9 - compression ring; 10 - compression clutch; 11 - double-turn siphon; 12 - drain pipe.

Overhead types of sinks are mounted easier than others. This is traditional way installation of equipment for washing dishes. In the interior of the kitchen, it is a free-standing cabinet with a sink, complemented by a panel for folding washed kitchen items.

On the pedestal, the panel is fixed with fasteners in the form of brackets or pushed onto the base into the grooves of the pedestal using special slides.

The sink kit may include an adhesive tubular seal inserted into the groove on the panel. The joint between the curbstone and the washing panel is smeared silicone sealant to protect against moisture penetration.

Rubber seals do not adhere tightly to the mating surfaces and have a short service life. More often they are replaced with a moisture-resistant sealant, it tightly fills the gaps and retains its properties for a long time when dried.

The underframe usually does not have additional internal elements; this opens up access for repairing supply pipes, cleaning the siphon and sewer pipes. Sometimes supporting bars are attached under the overhead sink, which increase the strength of the structure.

Before attaching the sink to the countertop, a mixer, water supply hoses and a siphon are mounted. The overhead sink is fixed with L-shaped fasteners with an oblique slot. 4-5 such elements are installed. Self-tapping screws are screwed into the places for fastening marked on the inner surface of the cabinet. They should protrude 5 mm from the walls of the underframe. It is better to screw in the screws with a screwdriver, when using a screwdriver, the countertop may be damaged.

During installation, the fastening grooves are mounted on self-tapping screws and the sink is shifted until it is firmly fixed on the surface sink. Then the screws are tightened and the protruding sealant is removed.

Installation of a mortise sink

To prevent splashes from water when washing dishes, choose a deep sink and install a low faucet.

The sink is installed in a pre-cut hole in a solid worktop. In this case, the sink itself can be made of various materials A: stainless alloy, earthenware, porcelain, etc.

To insert a washing tank, you will need some tools and additional materials:

  • electric jigsaw with a fine-toothed file;
  • drill, screwdriver;
  • pencil, ruler, tape measure;
  • self-tapping screws, silicone sealant;
  • wrenches for mounting the mixer;
  • sandpaper, construction knife.

The contours of the installed panel are marked with a pencil, turning it over and laying it on the countertop. The indents from the front and rear edges of the latter take at least 5 cm. Then the location of the bowl is measured relative to the edges of the panel. On them, the contour of the hole cut out under the sink looms.

The bowl can be of various shapes, so it is necessary to transfer its geometric parameters to the surface of the countertop as accurately as possible. Manufacturers of mortise sinks often include a template with the kit, according to which the shape of the hole is drawn.

The cutting line should recede outwards from the sides of the bowl by about 1 cm. A hole is drilled at one of the points of the contour for inserting a jigsaw blade. For rectangular shape hole bowls are drilled at the corners of the intended contour.

Masking tape is glued on the outside of the contour. It will protect the surface of the countertop from damage by the foot of the jigsaw when cutting. On a removable tabletop, the material is sawn with a jigsaw with front side so less damage to the surface finish. In the process of cutting the opening, self-tapping screws are screwed into the cut to a small depth in order to inner part did not fall out at work. The sector to be removed can also be fixed from below with a backwater.

The ends of the countertop along the saw cut are covered with silicone sealant to protect the material from moisture penetration. The sealant is also applied under the edges of the panel along the drawn contour. A sink with a built-in mixer and a siphon is inserted into the prepared opening and attached to the countertop with clamps included in the plumbing kit. It remains to connect the mixer to the water supply and drain the sink through the siphon to the sewer.
