A simple jig for drilling holes with your own hands. Right angle drilling tool. Something about the scope

It is possible to make holes in products based on natural wood, metal, MDF or chipboard as much as possible and accurately using a special jig. This is an indispensable thing for those who are engaged in the production of furniture, and such a device is also needed in other areas.

Such a conductor can be purchased ready-made, or you can make it yourself.

Features of application in the furniture industry

Conductors and templates are needed when assembling furniture. Thanks to such things, you will prevent a common problem that occurs during drilling - the drill hits the part at the wrong angle. Correcting such an error will take an extremely long time, in some cases it will even be impossible.

And the jig for making holes will allow not only to correctly orient the working tool, but still prevent it from going astray from the desired trajectory.

Conductors in the furniture industry and templates are used in the following cases:

During the use of such a device, the assembly process will be much easier and faster, you can make the necessary holes, regardless of how far they should be located from the edge of the part and how wide it is.

With self-assembly of furniture, it is often necessary to connect the parts end-to-end with dowels. Holes for dowels are best done with a special jig. The peculiarity of dowels is that despite the fact that such fasteners, although outdated, are still relevant in the manufacture of furniture.

The difficulty in their application lies in the fact that the axes of the holes that are made in the parts when connected must have a right angle with each other. Accordingly, they should be placed strictly perpendicular to each other. It is difficult to do this without a special device. Therefore, if you want to achieve high quality performance, it is recommended to buy a jig for dowels.

Other uses

Hole jigs are not only used in furniture production. Quite often they are used when you need to make a hole in a pipe or other part. cylindrical shape. Thanks to them, you can make a high-quality hole even in a pipe with a small diameter.

Such devices are versatile and easy to use, so they are also used in the following industries:

  • mechanical engineering - drilling holes in workpieces of various sizes based on different materials;
  • construction - drilling holes in building structures;
  • home communications - as already mentioned, drilling pipes and more.

Modern drilling jigs can be of different sizes and have a different principle of operation. Some of them are complex, so they are easier to buy. And some modifications can be made independently, especially since some serial furniture models, especially those with a universal purpose, are expensive.

Benefits of using

In fact, such a conductor acts as a template for making holes so that they are made as accurately as possible. They can be used for those holes whose axis is perpendicular to the surface of the workpiece, as well as for working at an angle.

This tool is great alternative sketches and hand measurements. You can place the drill strictly at the right angle with respect to the workpiece and do not allow any deviation. The result will be especially noticeable if we are talking about making deep holes.

If you use such a high quality fixture for working with chipboard, then it should have the following characteristics:

  • facilitate quick assembly of furniture without the need to use complex tools;
  • make it possible to make several holes at the same time without manual marking;
  • significantly improve the quality of work with a drill.

Conductors are made on the basis of different materials, there are models based on plastic or organic glass. However, steel is considered the best option. with advantages such as:

  • minimum probability of deformation;
  • the drill is directed as clearly as possible;
  • no heat during operation.

Very often, overhead models based on lightweight materials that are easy to manipulate are used as furniture conductors. Many use factory or homemade tools.

And the most qualified and experienced craftsmen they no longer use the conductor, because they can easily make a hole in the structures as accurately as possible on their own. But this is not for everyone.

The key advantage of such a device is that even the person who does not have the proper experience can perform the work as accurately and efficiently as possible. You do not have to perform markings and complex preliminary calculations. You will save a lot of time and make furniture much faster.

Instrument classification

Before you buy a ready-made conductor or make it yourself, you need to decide what tasks you will solve with it, and only then you need to select suitable option in design and function.

Jig for drilling holes with your own hands

As already mentioned, depending on the area of \u200b\u200buse and design, some options can be done by yourself, so you will save a significant amount.

Before work, find the required drawing of the device and make everything strictly according to it.

Necessary tools for work:

To make the simplest version of the conductor with your own hands, we perform the following steps:

As you can see, such a device is very simple in terms of self-production, but it will greatly simplify the work if you are engaged in the manufacture of furniture. If you are doing this purely as an amateur, then this option will be enough. If you can’t do it yourself, buy a ready-made version, perhaps the simplest and most inexpensive.

And here is the professional equipment will cost much more, the expediency of acquiring it is already there when it comes to at least small batch production. But with its help you can simply and quickly connect pieces of furniture or repair it.

So, you have learned what a hole-making jig is and how it helps in the manufacture of furniture. This device can be purchased from ready-made, and do it yourself.

Furniture jig for drilling holes, a drawing of a kind of template that allows you to accurately set the assembly elements and greatly simplifies and speeds up the assembly.

With this device, you can make holes for:

Dowels

The jig for drilling holes greatly facilitates the work of furniture makers and other professionals who, by the nature of their activities, have to make precise holes in wood, chipboard, MDF, metal and other materials.

What kind of conductors are there and is it possible to make this device with your own hands - the main issues that the article is devoted to.

Basic information about conductors

Conductors - simple devices, a kind of templates that have been successfully used in mechanical engineering for a long time.

They allow you to make a hole in the right place and at a strictly defined angle. The scope of conductors is very wide, from drilling machines to diamond drilling installations.

Today, every furniture master has in his arsenal a set of these tools that allow you to assemble furniture cases, install fittings and perform other operations.

Conductors are needed in construction (for example, to make holes in the wall of a building) and various industries.

As a rule, only overhead models are used here, which are made from lightweight materials to facilitate the work of the master.

The furniture conductor can be factory-made or hand-made.

Many craftsmen have such a trained eye and precise hand that it is not at all difficult for them to drill holes at the right angle without additional tools. However, this requires vast experience and, perhaps, talent.

With the help of the tool to which this article is devoted, even a novice furniture maker will be able to make precise holes for dowels and assemble cabinet furniture without complex preliminary calculations and markings. This reduces the labor intensity and, therefore, the cost of the work and speeds up the process.

Before you buy or make a conductor, you need to decide on the varieties and purpose.

Overhead conductors are named so due to the fact that they are superimposed on the workpiece with which to work. They are either fixed on the part, or simply held by hand.

With the help of overhead tools, for example, holes are made in MDF boards.

Swivel jigs are needed if you need holes on the surface of the cylinder. Inclined, vertical and horizontal axis of rotation allow you to drill holes at different angles.

Unified conductors are especially in demand in small-scale production, where it is necessary to drill many holes in the same type of parts of various sizes.

This is possible due to the ability to readjust the tool for a different size of the part.

The scope of tilting conductors is the need to make holes in several planes.

The sliding conductor does not need to be fixed on the surface of the machine - it is attached to the specific surface in which it is necessary to drill a hole.

It is more convenient to work with fixed models, but sliding ones give the master a certain freedom of action when working on a single-spindle drilling machine, especially if several holes are needed on one surface.

Something about the scope

Drilling jig is included in the list necessary tools for furniture assembly. One of the difficulties when making any holes is that the drill can enter the drilled material at the wrong angle.

It can take a lot of effort and time to correct the situation, in addition, not all errors can be corrected.

The conductor serves not only as a template, thanks to which the master understands where to drill, but also guides the drill, preventing it from deviating from the given direction.

First of all, the tool is necessary for specialists who produce furniture, but it is not uncommon during assembly when a finished furniture set does not have the necessary holes, for example, for dowels.

The jig is indispensable for drilling thin slabs, such as chipboard, for making holes at an angle and many other operations.

Precise, simple, fast assembly of furniture always takes place with the participation of this tool. With it, you can make a hole at any distance from the edge of the part, regardless of its width.

One of the operations in which you cannot do without a conductor is the installation of dowels.

By and large, dowels are last century, in modern furniture production already use other types of fasteners to connect various parts of cabinet furniture. However, the connection with the help of dowels is still quite widely used.

The main difficulty in mounting them lies precisely in the accuracy of the location of the holes, and in a strictly perpendicular direction, so that you can connect the parts at an angle of 90 °.

If even one hole is in the wrong place or at the wrong angle, this will lead to errors that are quite difficult to correct. A special tool is called a jig for drilling under dowels (doweling jig).

Furniture is a common, but not the only scope for drilling tools. The second important direction is the drilling of pipes and other cylindrical blanks. Conductors allow you to drill even pipes of small diameter.

If collect different kinds drilling templates on the same workbench, it turns out that they are very different in appearance and sizes.

Some are easier to buy factory-made, especially if making tools is not your hobby, others can be made by hand without much difficulty.

Multifunctional conductors from well-known manufacturers are not cheap - assembling them yourself, you can save a lot.

Conductors of own production

The simplest tools are inexpensive, so many craftsmen find it easier to buy them. However, there are enthusiasts for whom tool making is of particular interest.

In addition, with your own hands you can make a really durable tool that will faithfully last for many years.

Another reason to make your own tool is if you need a template for custom holes.

There are a large number of drawings and video instructions on the Internet for making do-it-yourself drilling jigs.

This requires a set of tools:

  • drill;
  • angle grinder (grinder);
  • standard set of locksmith tools;
  • welding machine - not necessary in all cases, but for making the most complex tools with your own hands, it may be required.

Another argument "for" the independent manufacture of conductors - each master will surely have the necessary blanks for their manufacture: wooden bars, pieces of rebar, metal plates.

The jig-template for precise marking and drilling of holes on it is so simple that even a novice master can make it.

Take a rebar with a square section of 10 x 10 mm (or larger) - the required length must be cut with a hacksaw or a grinder.

Sections are preferably prepared with a file and sandpaper. This is the basis of the future conductor.

Now you need to mark the holes. One of them should be at a distance of 8 mm from the edge of the jig - at this distance is the central part of the chipboard board.

Furniture standards dictate the pitch between the holes - it is 32 mm. According to this marking, it is necessary to drill holes with a diameter of 5 mm.

The conductor is almost ready for use, but if you equip it with an emphasis, then it will be much more convenient to assemble furniture.

It is made from a metal plate 1 mm thick and 25 mm wide. The workpiece for the stop must be bent at a right angle and fixed in the clamp together with the finished part made of reinforcement.

Now you need to make holes for the thread and fasten the two parts together with bolts.

Furniture conductor can be equipped with half plastic bottle so that drilling holes is not so dusty. From the same plastic bottle, you can build a small pallet for collecting chips.

This is the simplest jig for drilling holes, thanks to which the assembly of cabinet furniture will become much easier.

With it, you do not have to worry that the drill may enter into chipboard crooked or drill through it.

In the process of assembling or repairing furniture, it is often necessary to perform work on precise drilling of holes for confirmation, for dowels, dowels and other furniture fasteners. In the case of wood and chipboard, it is difficult to make such holes using only an electric drill: the entrance part of the hole is broken, and it itself may not turn out at right angles to the mating surfaces. Thus, a jig is required for drilling holes.

Purpose and classification of furniture conductors

The purpose of the jig for drilling holes is to accurately direct the drill to the required point, and ensure the straightness of the tool throughout the entire depth of the hole being made. In metalworking, such devices have been known for a long time, and are often supplied with the machine. Due to the increased number of closed connections in modern furniture products, the need for such conductors for woodworking specialists is very relevant.

There are the following types of furniture conductors:

  1. Overlays that do not require fixing before use. They are simple, mobile, but they force you to use only one hand when drilling (if the drill or grinder is not installed in a special frame). Making such a conductor with your own hands is easy and simple. They are mainly used when making holes in MDF or chipboard.
  2. Swivel, which are equipped with folding brackets, and allow you to perform drilling on two planes adjacent to each other with one go.
  3. Conductors for drilling holes at an angle. A highly specialized version of the conductor, which is designed to make holes for different angles. Often combined with the overhead design of the equipment in question.
  4. Sliding, with which you can make several holes without changing the settings (including in several rows). More necessary for professionals who often have to perform such work. Requires skill to use correctly.

With sufficient rigidity of the conductor, it can also be used for drilling holes in products that do not have a flat plane, for example, in pipes. Then the conductor is fixed with a clamp (this option is not suitable for furniture, because of the danger of surface deformation).

Jig for drilling holes with your own hands

Basically, such equipment consists of the following parts:

  1. An angular body element applied to the surfaces of products, which will subsequently be connected to each other with dowels, dowels or confirmations.
  2. Guide bushings, which includes a drill.
  3. Clamping / fixing devices, which are located at the end parts of the conductor.

For a conductor who is supposed to be made by hand, it is important to design a fixture for the most common fastening options for a home craftsman. If you need a universal conductor (for furniture makers), then it is better to spend money on an industrial version of the equipment, which is different increased accuracy fixing parts, and has a better performance. Moreover, manufacturers often offer templates, stops and other useful little things. The price of a furniture conductor for industrial production ranges from 500 to 1200 rubles, which is determined by its functionality– length and number of guide holes.

Let's start designing a furniture jig for drilling holes by choosing a corner. More opportunities for the product, where the corner will be unequal, and with the maximum possible thickness of the shelf. According to the GOST 8510 range “Steel unequal angles”, the minimum allowable dimensions are the L63 × 40 × 8 angle: with a shelf thickness of 8 mm, a guide bush with an outer diameter of up to 6 mm can be placed there. The inner hole for the drill, therefore, can be no more than 3.5 ... 4 mm, but this is quite enough for most options for the holes to be obtained. In extreme cases, they can be drilled out without using the fixture, especially if the hole is deep enough.

The next step is the design of the guide bushing. It can be selected from any stainless pipe GOST 9941 (seamless) or GOST 9940 (all-welded). It is recommended that you first select the pipe according to the diameter of the inner hole. A 6×1 pipe will make it possible to obtain an internal hole for a drill with a diameter of up to 3.6 ... 3.7 mm, and a 6×1.5 pipe - for a drill up to 2.7 mm (double-sided clearance is taken taking into account the thermal expansion of the material). The length of the sleeve must be no less than twice the height of the hole made in the corner. The landing of each bushing in the hole must be carried out with an interference fit or transition. The most appropriate is the fit on the shaft system, when the already known outer diameter of the sleeve is taken as the basis, and a hole is drilled under it in the corner. It is better to use a slight interference fit, such as h9/P10.

It happens that the conductor must be calculated for drilling a deep hole. In such cases, the sleeve must be stepped (with a collar). Bushings for machine tools according to GOST 12214 have the necessary accuracy and dimensions, the inner hole in which has a constant diameter value along the entire height of the bushing.

The number of holes, and especially the distance between them, is chosen according to the specific needs of the user.

When choosing a mounting method for the conductor, choose one of the following options:

  • Spring stop, which will press the surface of the conductor to the part due to the elastic forces of the material. Any flat spring with the required clamping force is suitable as such an emphasis;
  • Fixing with self-tapping screws, which are screwed into the material of the part, and keep the jig from being displaced by friction forces. This option is convenient in that the resulting outlines can be further used as additional elements centering the future hole. In the case of chipboard, this option should be used with caution;
  • External clamps, under which it is worth placing corrugated rubber gaskets. In this case, the weight of the conductor will increase, and the compliance of the rubber may violate the perpendicularity of the axis of the conductor bushings. Therefore, using this method of fastening, the drill is first inserted into the sleeve, the hole is marked, and only after that the clamp is used.

Drilling jig for dowels and dowels

The sequence and design of the simplest devices for accurately obtaining holes is considered in the following two examples:

  1. Multi-position conductor with clamp fastening (see Fig. 1). A thick-walled aluminum corner is adopted here as the initial body part. Due to the considerable length of the device, an intermediate fastening is provided in the middle. When turning the jig at an angle of 90º, the increased thickness of the wall of the corner, which is superimposed on the surface of the part, is successfully used. The distance between the guide bushings is selected according to the most common distances for dowels or for confirmation.

Figure 1 - Multi-position jig for drilling holes with clamp fastening

  1. Two-slider furniture jig, with which you can make holes in two mutually mating parts. The design of the device is clear from the attached drawing (see Fig. 2). It consists of two guide lines, which are connected by fasteners to the connecting bar. The presence of several holes on it allows you to install the bar on parts of various widths. Interchangeable housings with a set of guide bushings with different distances between them move along the rulers. The conductor is fixed with the help of a connecting strip, and on the opposite side - with a stroke limiter, which is pressed with a wing screw.

When creating furniture, almost all the details have to be joined end-to-end. This is done with the help of dowels in which holes are made. This is where a special detail is needed. You can buy it or make a furniture conductor with your own hands.

What is a furniture conductor

The conductor is a bar that has several holes and sleeves. It is applied to the desired part, the drill is inserted into the sleeve and a hole is made. To fix two parts, you will need the help of one conductor, while the parts are fixed as securely as possible.

  • precise drilling;
  • simple and fast creation of holes.

At the same time, conductors are used not only during construction, but also in mechanical engineering. Also, this device allows you to drill cylindrical blanks and pipes.

Different types of conductors

Depending on the industry, conductors are divided as follows:

  • Overhead. They got their name because of the scope. This device is superimposed on the workpiece and fixed, with the help of which holes are made.
  • Swivel. They are used to drill cylindrical holes. In this case, the rotary axes can be located both horizontally and vertically, and at an angle. The housing here is equipped with swivel bushings.
  • Overturned. They are used when holes are created in several planes.
  • Sliding. Used to make each individual hole. In this case, this model is not fixed on the surface, which means that it is not the most convenient.

Do-it-yourself furniture conductor

As we wrote above, this product is needed when assembling furniture. Someone prefers to buy it, and someone to make a furniture jig for drilling holes with their own hands. Such products are sold in any hardware stores, it is important to choose finished products for a specific purpose. The cost of a furniture conductor will depend on its size, purpose and manufacturer.

The simplest option is inexpensive, but professional equipment with various additional functions costs a lot. Therefore, today more and more often do-it-yourself furniture conductors and templates are made.

They are produced using a metal sheet or a wooden board. They make holes that will serve as guides. This job is easy and anyone can do it.

How to create a conductor

So, creating a furniture conductor with your own hands is not difficult. To get started you will need:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • drill and some locksmith tools;
  • you also need to prepare reinforcement 10 x 10 mm in advance.

First, the workpiece is cleaned with sandpaper and marking is performed. The distance from center to center is approximately 32 mm. Next, each template hole is drilled. After that, an emphasis is created - for this you can take a metal plate 1 mm thick. It needs to be bent and a place for carving prepared. The last step is the connection of these parts.

The product must be made as accurately and accurately as possible, otherwise there will be no benefit from it, and in an unfavorable situation, it can even damage furniture. You can learn more about how to make a conductor by watching various video tutorials. The easiest way to make it is according to a furniture template, which can also be peeped from specialists.

In order for drilling not to cause complications, a conductor is needed. This device is really needed when assembling furniture. Of course, you can buy everything today, but it’s better to make a furniture conductor with your own hands, because then such equipment is exactly right for each specific purpose.

Do-it-yourself jig for drilling holes

Description and features of the device

The conductor is a bar with several holes and sleeves. Such a device is fixed to the necessary part, and then a drill is carefully inserted into the sleeve and a hole is made. To fix two parts, you need one jig, so that the fixation is reliable.

  • drilling accuracy;
  • ease and speed of creating holes.

It is worth noting that conductors are sometimes used in mechanical engineering, and not only in construction. Moreover, with the help of this device it is possible to make holes in cylindrical blanks and pipes. Also, the jig allows you to make perpendicular holes.

Main types of equipment

All conductors used in various industries, divided into several groups .

Methods and scope of the conductor

There are many ways to use such equipment. Naturally, the main area is considered building sector .

furniture industry

When assembling furniture, it may turn out that some holes are missing. It is for this reason that you will have to drill various parts with your own hands. To perform the work did not cause difficulties, it is necessary to use a conductor. This will make furniture assembly accurate and fast. The use of such equipment is really relevant if you do not have a drilling machine.

Although today there is large selection of accessories and fasteners, dowels are still often used in the furniture assembly process. They must be installed very precisely, otherwise the parts will be displaced. To avoid such an unpleasant consequence, you should use the conductor.

Pipe drilling

If it is necessary to prepare holes in pipes and various cylindrical workpieces, the use of a drill will not be best idea, since it often slips off, which means that the holes will not have the desired shape. To facilitate the work, you should use a universal conductor.

It should be noted that there is special equipment that allows you to perform perpendicular holes. and this is very important when processing rounded elements and edges of workpieces.

Purchased or homemade conductor?

As mentioned earlier, such a product is indispensable in the process of assembling furniture. Some people make these devices with their own hands, while others prefer to buy.

Conductors are sold in almost any hardware store, however finished products may not be suitable for specific purposes. It is also important to remember that the cost of the device depends on the purpose, size and manufacturer. Most simple options are inexpensive. which cannot be said about professional equipment with a large number of additional functions.

Many consumers prefer to make a jig with their own hands. For this purpose, a metal sheet or wooden plank. Holes are prepared here, which will act as guides. In general, everyone will cope with such work.

Creating a conductor with your own hands

As already mentioned, you can make a similar product for drilling yourself. To do this, you need to prepare a welding machine, a grinder, a drill and a few plumbing tools. You will also need fittings. dimensions 10x10 mm .

  • The workpiece is cleaned with sandpaper and markup is performed. According to accepted standards, the distance between centers should be about 32 mm.
  • Next, the template holes are drilled.
  • The next step is to create an emphasis. It can be a metal plate 1 mm thick. It is carefully bent and a place for carving is prepared.
  • Then both parts are carefully connected.

So that the process of drilling holes does not cause any difficulties, it is worth using a jig. Such equipment is indeed indispensable in the process of assembling furniture. You can buy it, but it's better to do it yourself, because homemade device exactly tailored to your specific needs.

Jig for drilling holes: how to use and how to do it yourself?

When working with a hand drill, it is sometimes difficult to maintain a predetermined direction of the hole. Also, conductors are used if it is necessary to make a number of similar holes according to the pattern. For example, in carpentry. In this case, the master does not waste time marking the tree, and is guaranteed to get the same result.

The conductor is indispensable when drilling holes in pipes. But the main application is the passage of holes at a given angle.

Consider various options this useful tool:

Jig for perpendicular drilling

A simple furniture jig for drilling holes when assembling metal furniture. Details in the video

Purpose - obtaining passes in thick workpieces, strictly at an angle of 90 °. It is a set of bushings in a single housing, or a bracket with interchangeable working nozzles.

By setting the fixture above the drilling point, you can start working without first punching. The drill exactly hits the center of the sleeve and does not deviate from the axis.

Important! The only problem is that the tool must be held on the workpiece, especially at the beginning of work. Otherwise, it may move due to vibration.

Such a jig for drilling can be made by hand. Thick textolite or solid wood is used. Perfect option- the use of bushings from the extruder for drawing the wire. Worn bushings can be found at the factory.

Nozzles for the extruder are made of alloy steel, with the addition of Pobedit. The service life is practically inexhaustible.

Jig for cylindrical blanks or pipes

Making a hole in a sloping surface is almost impossible. It is especially difficult to start the process - the tip of the drill jumps off a given point. The device will fix the direction, and will allow you to work with high precision.

By adjusting the length of the fixing bolts, a hole can be drilled tangentially to the center. If there is no such tool at hand, it can be made from improvised materials. For example, from a bar of hard wood and a strip of plywood.

So that the guides do not break so quickly with the sharp edges of the drill, they can be reinforced with sleeves from tubes of different diameters.

Furniture jigs for drilling holes deserve a separate description.

This type of drilling is not very common, but there are ways to fasten products together when this technology is indispensable.

In fact, the hole is made tangentially, which is almost impossible to do while holding the drill with your hands.

Important! In metal parts, such recesses can only be made using a milling cutter.

And for wooden blanks there is a ready-made kit.

Any carpenter is familiar with this method of drilling, professionals use this device all the time. It is not difficult to work with the jig: the drilling height is set, the workpiece is pressed tightly against the stop, and you get accurate oblique holes.

A stop-limiter must be put on the drill, otherwise the hole will turn out to be through. Then the head of the screw will fall through. In addition, such fasteners are best done using a special drill with a double diameter.

It is difficult to make such a device on your own. Although there are simple options that are not particularly accurate.

There is a separate type of fixture: for drilling at an angle with an adjustable inclination. This is a specific conductor that is not suitable for all workpieces.

The above type of fastener is suitable only for the array. Pressed plates cannot be connected like that.

Therefore, such a conductor is not suitable for drilling holes in chipboard. For the assembly of trunnions and other components of hardboard furniture, dowel fasteners are used.

Dowel hole guide

The device is designed to maintain the alignment of the holes. Otherwise, you will not be able to install spikes. By applying a jig to both parts to be joined, you will ensure a perfect fit.

If you decide to make a similar jig with your own hands, it is not necessary to look for drawings. We present two options for perfectly working homemade products:

overlay template

It is very easy to make it. A small piece of plywood and a sheet of hardboard is enough. With the help of such a device, you can always drill a couple of coaxial holes for dowels.

Hardboard (or other transparent plastic) must be marked and drilled calibration holes. With their help, it will be easier for you to install the template in the right place. Thin-walled brass tubes must be hammered into the holes. Otherwise, a wood drill will quickly destroy the guides.

Important! This fixture is only suitable for workpieces of a fixed width.

Then the spikes will be located in the center of the butt. For a tree of other sizes, it is necessary to make separate guides, or a universal jig template.

Self-centering jig

If you are not making furniture using standard panels, you need a universal tool. It can also be made with your own hands, and the materials are literally lying around under your feet.

To make such a jig for drilling holes, you will need a drawing and basic knowledge of geometry. Materials used: a piece of plywood 15-18 mm, a thin-walled tube suitable for a drill, a few dowels, and a metal strip for the arms of the parallelepiped.

We make three identical parts: in the middle there is a hole reinforced with a tube, on the underside there are symmetrically located thrust legs made of dowels. It is important that all three components are absolutely identical.

We cut three identical arms from metal with symmetrically arranged holes. They determine the linearity of the holes of the conductor.

We cut grooves in three blanks, and connect them with metal shoulders. The device works no worse than the factory one, at virtually zero cost.

Another way to connect furniture is to use the so-called confirmation. This requires a separate tool.

Conductor for confirmation - varieties and possibility of manufacturing

Of course, such a device is on sale, and quite convenient and versatile. With its help, the first part of the workpiece is perforated.

The second part of the workpiece should have two rows of perpendicular holes. For this, a different design has been developed.

Of course, home craftsmen do not look for easy ways, and make a furniture jig template for drilling holes with their own hands. Moreover, it does not have to be universal, you can adapt it to a specific type of joint between furniture panels.

Important! Any universal device is designed to save money.

Make a drilling error in large numbers extra holes - as easy as shelling pears. Therefore, at self-manufacturing templates, make them narrow profile.

Don't be fooled by holes of the same size. Confirmat, as a rule, is issued according to certain standards. Therefore, the drilling diameter is the same.

How to make a jig for drilling holes for fasteners, we have dismantled. When assembling wooden structures and installation of doors/windows, swivel joints are used. Their fastenings must also be standardized and synchronized with each other. In order not to be mistaken with the markup, a jig is used for the holes for the loops.

Installing a standard furniture hinge without this template is almost impossible.

Any devices with which you can standardize markings, or drilling holes, increase the quality of work by an order of magnitude. In addition, the acquisition (manufacturing) of conductors can save a lot of time during carpentry work.

Step 25 - furniture jigs

To begin with, let's figure out what is a furniture conductor? Each time, when assembling some furniture, the master performs a lot of exactly the same marking operations (for example, marking 20 minifixes when assembling a cabinet is marking three absolutely identical holes with the same indents). So, the conductor is a device that allows you to optimize the processes of marking and / or drilling.

There are two main types of conductors: markinge and drilling. If the former serve to simplify the markup, then the latter allow you to completely remove this stage from work, starting immediately with drilling holes. Looking ahead, I will say that it is better to have both types.

Naturally, good conductors cost money, so people go crazy and come up with their own homemade options, which, often, are not worse than factory ones.

Let's look at a few examples.

Marking furniture conductors:

Homemade conductor from the line. Probably the simplest and at the same time quite convenient and multi-purpose marking jig, which I recommend making. It is a ruler with a STRICTLY PERPENDICULAR crossbar screwed to it. Holes are drilled in the ruler at certain distances from the beginning (for example, 32 mm for minifix, 100, 200, 300 mm for shelf supports, etc.)

Alternatively, as a basis for such a conductor, you can use a ready-made joiner's square (I have it that way). There are advantages (greater functionality) and disadvantages (less stable on the workpiece).

In addition, he eats highly specialized conductors, for example, for hole markings for furniture handles .

For marking furniture hinges - this is a factory conductor, but who's stopping you from making the same one.

In general, using a few pieces of plastic, metal, and even plywood, you can make a simple marking jig for your needs.

Professional marking conductor Assistent — serious multi-purpose device. (I didn’t work with it myself, but it seems to me that you can drill through it - it all depends on the bushings used).

Drilling jigs are more complex devices. In them, the hole should not only stand clearly opposite the right place, but also be strictly perpendicular so that the drill does not go to the side during operation (for this, for example, replaceable bushings of various diameters are used or the thickness of the conductor must be at least 10 mm).

Conductor dubel-profi from KVB — an excellent household drilling jig (for amateurs), to which a bunch of adaptations are produced (rulers, clamps, etc.), it is inexpensive, it simplifies work. I have two.

Professional drilling jigs. I think that the principle of action is quite clear from the photo. Interchangeable bushings - for drills of various diameters

Another option is conductor "condor". It has a system for positioning the conductor on the workpiece, replaceable bushings.

Again, according to your needs, you can make conductors of similar functionality with your own hands.

In short, the topic of conductors is almost endless))). To each his own and for his own. The main points, as I think, I have displayed - then it's up to your pocket and / or ingenuity.

By the way, you can order a Condor conductor in Chelyabinsk (or by shipment within the Russian Federation) at my address
