Do-it-yourself jigsaw machine: drawings, diagrams and reviews. Homemade jigsaw machine - design and manufacture at home Do-it-yourself band saw from a jigsaw

Having made a jigsaw with your own hands, you will not only get a practical tool, but also save money: it will be much cheaper than the factory counterpart, while having full set functions. A home-made electric jigsaw will allow you to create complex-shaped products from wood, plastic and other materials, the production of which with a hand tool under normal conditions would take a lot of time and effort.

A homemade jigsaw allows you to make cuts of complex shapes.

You should consider the structure and sequence of manufacturing a simple desktop electric jigsaw, assembly features and the procedure for working with it.

How is a desktop jigsaw arranged?

As the name implies, this tool is designed to be placed on the surface of a desktop or workbench. Compact dimensions allow you to work with a jigsaw both in the workshop or garage, and at home. An electric jigsaw is an indispensable tool for making complex wood ornaments, figured plywood carvings and the like.

Kinematic diagram of the jigsaw drive.

It is necessary to consider in more detail the structure of a factory-made desktop jigsaw. This will allow you to understand the main features of the device and apply them in a homemade model.

The components of an electric jigsaw can be divided into 3 parts:

  • movable frame with a saw;
  • fixed base;
  • Electrical engine.

The principle of operation of the tool is as follows: an electric motor rotates a crank mechanism, which converts rotational movements into reciprocating ones. Movements are transmitted to a movable frame on which the saw is stretched.

A homemade device works using the same principle. To simplify the design, the movable frame can be replaced with a conventional manual jigsaw.

Details for an electric jigsaw

When assembling an electric jigsaw, it is important to find a suitable motor that will drive the working tool - the saw. For this purpose, a motor from a drill, blender, food processor or other equipment of the same type is excellent.

The jigsaw frame is best made from aluminum pipe.

The movable frame is made of metal profiles, wooden planks or slats made of durable plastic. Most convenient to work with aluminum tubes square section, as they are easy to process, have a small weight and a significant margin of safety.

To fix the jigsaw in the desired position, a reliable frame made of wood or metal should be made for it. The dimensions of the frame do not have much effect on the operation of the jigsaw. They depend only on which version of the tool you need - a compact desktop or full-size, installed on the floor.

The jigsaw table is made from a thick sheet of plywood, in which a small diameter hole is made where the file will move (Fig. 2).

Between the case and the table place a gasket made of elastic material - rubber or leather, which will dampen the vibration.

There is also an easier option on how to make a homemade jigsaw. It consists in the fact that a manual electric jigsaw is mounted in a vertical position in a table-stand, while its file is attached tightly to the movable guide rails - levers.

Assembling a desktop jigsaw

The design of a homemade jigsaw begins with the assembly of the body, which can be made of plywood, chipboard or metal. The simplest model of this tool can do without a case, but in this case strong vibrations occur, which can significantly affect the comfort of work. In this case, two holes are made in the jigsaw - one for attaching the crank to the tool, the second for movable fixation of the jigsaw itself to the table. After starting the engine, the jigsaw begins to produce reciprocating movements that contribute to sawing the material.

Such a spring will provide the desired tension on the jigsaw saw.

A more elaborate model includes two separate strips, at the ends of which wing nuts are installed. From the opposite end, the bars are pulled together by a strong spring, which ensures a constant tension of the saw. Such a device works from a separate engine or, for example, from a drill.

Passes inside the body vertical bar, which is fixedly attached to its bottom or one of the walls. Two holes are made in it, the distance between which should be 2-3 cm less than the length of a standard file. Bolts or studs are threaded into the holes, on which straps are put on to hold the file.

The engine is built into the body and is attached to the lower bar by means of a disk with a connecting rod mechanism. A table with a hole for a saw acts as a housing cover.

The main drawback of a jigsaw with a separate engine lies in its most intricate part - the crank mechanism. The file with it makes not only vertical, but also inclined movements, which cannot but affect the accuracy of cutting. If you want to get an accurate tool, then it is better to replace the engine with an inexpensive factory-made manual electric jigsaw. It is fixed under the surface of the case and a file is threaded through the table, clamping it with one end in a jigsaw, and with the other in the upper bar of the structure. This design provides sufficient cutting accuracy, bringing this parameter closer to factory models.

Advantages of working with an electric jigsaw

The electric jigsaw allows you to make complex cuts very accurately.

Unlike hand tool, an electric jigsaw has clear advantages, including:

  • higher speed of work;
  • the ability to work with two hands, thereby increasing accuracy;
  • safety - with the right organization of work, a stationary tool is much safer, because it cannot escape from the hands.

In addition, self-production of an electric jigsaw will save money, since factory machines of this type are quite expensive.

A very nimble and compact enough tool, it can be incredibly useful for cutting straight and curly shapes. Appearance and the functionality of the sold jigsaws is impressive, making you believe in the incredible complexity of the design of these devices. In fact, to recreate such a mechanism, it is enough to understand the principle of its operation, have instructions and a desire to do something with your own hands. It is not at all necessary to be an expert in technology with many years of experience (although this quality will not be superfluous). Next, we will conduct a detailed analysis of the average jigsaw model with drawings, and provide two detailed guides on self-manufacturing similar tool.

How an electric jigsaw works

Although the jigsaw device is not particularly complex, its mechanism has certain features that require familiarization. To understand how to make a jigsaw, you must first understand what makes the saw blade reciprocate. For the most clear idea of the principle of operation of the device, we will present the main components that make up the mechanism of the tool and describe their interaction with each other.

At the heart of any electric jigsaw are the following components: an electric motor, a gearbox and a rod with a saw blade clamp. Secondary but no less important elements include the start button, the support roller, the cooling fan and the soleplate. As additional functionality, many models have a pendulum stroke, a dust collector, a backlight and a laser guide. We will not touch on the principle of operation of the latter, and proceed to a description of the interaction of the main elements of the mechanism.

The high-frequency movements of the jigsaw saw blade originate from the electric motor, which is started by pressing a button or directly from the mains. The rotation is transmitted along the shaft to a special “reducer” mechanism with an eccentric, which interacts with the rod, forming reciprocating movements. In the mount, installed at the end of the rod, the saw is fixed, making the cut. To minimize the load on the rod with the gearbox, the rear edge of the saw blade rests against the support roller. Thus, all components of the device are involved in order to perform the main task of sawing all kinds of materials.

Drawings of electric balls

A detailed study of any device is much easier when there is a detailed diagram with a description of each element. Thanks to the exact names of parts with dimensions, the general idea of the principle of operation of the mechanism becomes more visual. Below we have posted a few detailed illustrations, since it is much easier to assemble an electric jigsaw with detailed drawings than to rely only on your own idea of the design features.

We hope that the presented diagrams will completely clarify your understanding of the structure of such a mechanism and provide useful food for thought in assembling your own jigsaw.

Making a jigsaw with your own hands

For a craftsman who understands the principle of operation of any mechanism, it will not be difficult to reproduce it, especially if there are detailed instructions. The bicycle has already been invented, and to make it yourself, it is enough to have a set of necessary parts and tools available. The guide below will demonstrate in detail how to make a jigsaw with a complete listing of the elements and tools required for the job. The created product is not a stationary device, but a mobile saw with an electric drive. The power in the device is not so much, but enough to cut wood, up to 5 mm thick.

Required materials:

  • Wooden block - 150x75x25 and 75x25x25 (width, height, thickness in mm)
  • Metal plates - long and rectangular (as in the photo)
  • Electric jigsaw file with U-shank
  • Electric motor RS-540 12V (you can use any similar one)
  • Electric circuit closing button
  • Nozzle gas stove
  • Bicycle spoke
  • Plastic circle with a diameter of 260 mm
  • Plywood - 120x50x5
  • Set of screws, bolts and nuts
By instruments:
  • Hacksaw for metal
  • triangular file
  • Pliers (2 pcs)
  • Screwdriver or drill with a set of drills
  • Metal shears
  • Pencil
When collecting materials, it is important to understand that the above components do not claim absolute accuracy and can be replaced with similar ones. When making a homemade jigsaw for sawing, you should be guided by the presented manual, but do not forget about ingenuity and improvisation. If the specified element cannot be found, it can always be replaced with something.

The assembly of the jigsaw will begin with sawing out the handle from a larger bar. To do this, it is enough to cut, giving the rectangular board an L-shape, as in the photo. The dimensions of the sawn part are set "by eye", based on the preferences and size of the operator's hand.

One of the most important components of the device, serving as a movable rod and a saw blade retainer, requires increased reliability. This element is made of a long metal strip, 1 mm thick. At the end, the outline of the file shank is outlined, after which a triangular file is filed to create a pressure plate. Part of the metal strip is bent with pliers along the contour of the shank, after which a file is installed in an impromptu mount and a through hole is drilled for additional fixation with a bolt.

The saw blade, fixed on the rod, must be connected to the device using a guide. This part is made of metal plates. rectangular shape. With the help of pliers, we bend the center of the plate into a flat groove for the stem with side mounting lugs. To prevent abrasion of wood and facilitate the movement of the file, we apply a similar piece of metal to the front side of the prepared handle and twist it together with the groove. As a result, the following construction should be obtained.

At the end of the rod, carefully bend the metal until a kind of loop is obtained, into which the end of the lever of the crank mechanism will be inserted.

We fasten the previously sawn off wooden rectangle to the top. It will serve as a stand for the motor, creating additional space for mounting the crank elements.

The transformation of engine rotations into reciprocating movements will occur with the help of an elementary mechanism made of a round plate, a gas nozzle and a weight-bearing spoke. In the center of the circle, we drill a hole with a diameter equal to the threaded part of the nozzle (so that it fits as tightly as possible). Next, install the nozzle in place and fix it with epoxy. We put the dried structure on the motor shaft. If the nozzle hole is too narrow, you can expand it with a drill of the required diameter. Between the center and the edge of the circle, we drill another small hole with the diameter of a bicycle spoke.

Unfortunately, not everywhere you can find an upgraded gas stove nozzle with a side screw used in the instructions. If only an ordinary one is available, it can be fixed on the shaft with a tin and a soldering iron, as in the photo below.

Having combined the engine with a round plate, it's time to turn it into a real crank. To do this, we take a bicycle knitting needle and bite off the bent hat and the threaded part with pliers to get an even metal rod. Next, we retreat from one end 10 mm, and bend at an angle of 90 °. We insert the bent part into the previously prepared eyelet in the stem and lift it up so that the screw for fixing the file rests against the metal plate.

The accuracy of the next step is most important, since the amplitude of the movement of the saw blade depends on it. It is necessary to determine the exact place for making the second bend of the rod so that the crank and rod connected by it work most efficiently. To do this, we put the engine in place of the future mounting and place the extreme hole of the circle up. Next, we bring a rod to the hole, the opposite edge of which is inserted into the eye of the rod raised to the stop and mark the place of the bend. We make a bend at an angle of 90 °, insert it into the hole of the circle and check the operation of the mechanism. If the crank works as it should, fix the motor in place with a metal plate.

The next structural element will be the sole, which also acts as a support for the saw blade. You can make a similar part from ordinary plywood, 5 mm thick. In the center of one of the ends, we make a small cut (20-30 mm) and pass the file of our jigsaw into it. We fix with a self-tapping screw with a countersunk head.

The final step is to install the start button and connect the wires. The button can be displayed in any place convenient for you. The author considered it necessary to put it on hot glue in the corner of the handle. We create an elementary electrical circuit (motor-button-network and motor-network) and connect it to a 12 volt power supply.

For smoother running, it is recommended to lubricate the stem with oil.

A more visual demonstration of this instruction, but unfortunately without comments, can be viewed in the video below.

Homemade jigsaw for polystyrene

Assembly of a fairly convenient and reliable device for cutting thin wooden blanks and polystyrene. This method is almost similar to the previous one, but has a more functional design. Compose detailed description how to make this electric jigsaw with your own hands is not necessary, since the design of the device is similar to the previous assembly. We will bring full list necessary materials and manufacturing tools.
  • Plywood 200x200x5 mm
  • Wooden block - 120x50x50
  • Spatula or sheet of metal, 1 mm thick
  • Metal terminal for connecting wires
  • Metal rod (spoke)
  • Hacksaw blade
  • Electric motor (DC) at 12 volts
  • A piece of thin, flexible plastic
  • Mounting metal corner
  • A piece of PVC pipe as a handle
  • Contact closure button
  • 12 volt power supply with DC plug
  • DC power connector
  • Self-tapping screws, bolts and nuts
The above list of materials is only a subjective choice of the author of the instructions and does not claim to be absolute accuracy. When you do something with your own hands, you need to improvise and come up with non-standard applications for various parts. If you do not have any element available, perhaps another one can handle its function.

By instruments:

  • File (file)
  • Metal shears
  • pliers
  • Drill or screwdriver with a set of drill bits
  • Core drill for wood with a diameter of 44 mm
  • soldering iron
  • Thermal gun
To more clearly understand the process of assembling all of the above items, see detailed video“how to make a jigsaw with your own hands”. Most of the questions related to the design of the device will disappear by themselves.

Also, there is another option for making a homemade jigsaw. The principle of operation of this product is similar to the previous two, there are some nuances in the design. We hope that the following video will be useful and give you fresh ideas for creating your instrument.

Today I want to tell you how to make a table for a jigsaw with your own hands. Perhaps some will say: why, after all, you can cut on any table. With such success, we can ask: why can an electric jigsaw be sawed with an ordinary, manual one.

When you saw with an electric jigsaw, the nail file leads to the side. I looked on the Internet and, initially, I wanted a band saw, there is no way to buy it, and it is very difficult and expensive to make it. So I decided to make a table for an electric bobzik.

First of all, let's decide on the material for the table and its size.

I found chipboard in the garage, so I will make a table from it and a cover for it. I will make the bar itself from profile pipe the size of which is 25 × 25 × 25 and a height of 110 mm, a length of 515 mm, a length of a perpendicular corner of 20 mm.

To the part of the fixture where the saw clamp is located, in other words the lock, I used two bearings. I fixed the metal bar with a “lamb”, so that it would be possible to adjust the level of elevation in height, the part that we cut.

We turn to the manufacture of the table. Table size: length 540 mm, width-400 mm, base 435 mm, depth 350 mm. and height 250mm.

Under the table, I attached a jigsaw to the screws and washers. I left the front of the table open, there should be access in order to replace the file if necessary, adjust the speed or amplitude, in a word, to make different settings for the jigsaw. Of course, in the future I plan to improve the table by making doors to it, this is not only for aesthetics, well, then the noise will decrease.

For greater convenience when cutting, I made a ruler-stop. I made it small, after all, when we saw at the table, no special efforts are made (compared to a circular saw, where a ruler is needed more powerful to cut the parts evenly). The device of the ruler is very simple; here I used an 8 furniture nut, and on the other hand, a screw, which is easily tightened with a screwdriver. It can be screwed to the table manually, but if we do this with a screwdriver it will be more reliable.

The ruler moves freely on the table, which is convenient when cutting.

The table - the machine for the electric jigsaw is ready, you see there is nothing complicated in its manufacture.

Step by step making a table for a jigsaw

Manual power tool very popular both among amateurs and in the environment professionals due to their obvious merit, namely:

  • comparatively cheap and availability;
  • compactness;
  • mobility.

Reverse side of these unconditional advantages is the presence of such shortcomings, as:

  • relatively small time of continuous work;
  • small achievable accuracy;
  • insufficient processing quality.

Obviously, these shortcomings are devoid of professional stationary solutions - machine tools and machines on massive beds. They are, as a result, sufficient not cheap but the main thing is that they need to be placed somewhere. But what if there is no way to equip workshop, but want to improve quality works? This question is asked by many of those who are passionate about a serious hobby, and even just beginners. masters.

In our article we will talk about decision, addressing known deficiencies manual jigsaw.

Benefits of a desktop jigsaw

The general limitations hand power tools are fully inherent and jigsaw.

Its main advantage is mobility - involves only manual movements and fixation tool. That is, in fact, it turns out that:

  1. Very hard to do smooth, a clear cut: the slightest extra movement - and a visible flaw appears in the cut line. Going in the kit guides do not save because of their insufficient rigidity;
  2. Injection inclination the saw blade in relation to the workpiece is actually not controlled in any way. And even in the simplest case of a straight cut, when the blade perpendicular the sole of the jigsaw, the result may disappoint. There are at least two reasons:
    • saw blade - elastic and can bend during the cutting process, the free edge of the file is not limited by anything;
    • On affordable (read - cheap) models, it is quite often perfect direct the angle between the file and the sole is difficult reach by virtue of the very design of cheap stamped grounds.

Interesting Mark, what, say, American craftsmen use manual electric jigsaw is quite rare. For example, when needed cut out opening in the kitchen worktop for installation sinks. In other cases, they prefer to use stationary band saws of various sizes. Such saws are completely devoid of some shortcomings (which are mentioned above), and are fully endowed with others: dimensions, weight and ... price.

Summarizing the foregoing, it is safe to conclude that, in some way fixing jigsaw on the desktop, you can to a certain extent win some of its shortcomings. And if you foresee guides free edge rollers canvases files, you can get a completely even cut. And clean - correct selection the saw itself.

Therefore, special jigsaw table significantly improve the quality of work with this tool.

Of course, you should not think that in this way you can get full tape saw. But more on that later, now - briefly about what will be needed for manufacturing.

Materials and tools

materials can be used from those that are at hand. I would like to point out that the working surface("tabletop") must be flat and sufficiently tough, Therefore, when choosing a material, you need to keep in mind the following points:

  • Can be used plywood however, thin (less than 12 mm) plywood is susceptible to warping, and not the fact that the existing piece will be fairly even.
    Waterproof is preferred laminated("formwork") plywood thickness from 12 mm.
  • If speak about ( particle boards), then in the general case, the thicker they are, the better - the more rigid. Ideally, a piece quality laminated kitchen countertops or "postforming".
    Of the minuses - less reliability mounts to her tool, you need to take a more responsible approach to the choice of fasteners.
    From pluses, perhaps the main one is accessibility and simplicity: you can order all set parts according to their size in any furniture workshop. Thickness it is better to take not the standard 16 mm, but more (for example, 22 mm).
  • Metal the properties are almost perfect, but in everyday life it is quite difficult to find suitable sizes a piece, polished and even. In addition, making the necessary holes in it is somewhat more laborious, then it is reasonable to use drilling machine.

A set of necessary tool will depend on the choices materials, but in general approximate scroll something like this:

  • pencil, roulette or ruler, carpentry square - for marking;
  • square will also be useful at the stage final assembly and settings;
  • screwdrivers and nut keys according to the selected fastener;
  • screwdriver or drill, drills for fasteners, self-tapping screws (screws).

In addition, you will need rectangular metal bracket, two identical bearing and fixture. Actually myself jigsaw will also come in handy.

Manufacturing steps

Regardless of the material chosen necessary:

  • make base and connect to the work surface with holes for attaching the sole of the tool;
  • make a system brackets for the top guide file;
  • collect and adjust table.

Base and work surface

Dimensions grounds are chosen based on dimensions the existing jigsaw and are approximate.
The dimensions of the working surface are also indicated tentatively, from the mounting side of the bracket mounted flush with the base, on the other three sides small ledge for ease of attachment snap(clamps, stops, etc.).

Device bracket with guide bearings is clear from the figure.
Sizes can be chosen individually, but something necessarily must be kept in mind.

which limit the removal of the file to the side, you need pick up based on the size of the files that you plan to work with. Width the bearing itself (in the reference books it is indicated by the letter AT) must not be greater than the width files, so as not to dull her teeth.

So, for example, if width saw blades for metal (T123X, T118A) usually more than 5 mm, then they will be suitable bearings with dimension B 4–5 mm, e.g.:

Wherein prefer follows models with letters ZZ, 2RS as the most protected from exposure to dust, which will definitely be in the process of cutting.

Saw blades according to tree, on the contrary, they can be narrow (T244D about 3.5 mm) and very narrow (T119BO about 3 mm, which can be used in our case). As an option - bearing 100093 (aka 693, 3 x 8 x 3 mm).

Under the selected bearing is selected fixture: screws M3 or M4, nuts (better "self-locking" with kapron insert preventing spontaneous unscrewing).

The distance between axes bearings is also calculated based on the size of the files, the thickness canvases may be within from 0.9 to 1.7 mm.

For example, thickness blade T244D is 1.25 mm, and T123X, T118A is 1 mm. Rounding is best big side.

Assembly and adjustment

bracket can to fix in the following way

This method of fastening will allow adjust and the height of the guide bearings according to the length of the saw, and (using a square) perpendicularity the saw itself relative to the desktop.

As mentioned above, you should not flatter yourself - although this is no longer easy jigsaw, but still not a band saw yet. Here are some tips:

    • In a band saw motion of the saw blade occurs only in one direction - top down, due to which the workpiece is pressed against the table by cutting forces.
      It is possible to undermine the workpiece up, since the pendulum of the jigsaw makes and returnable motion.
      Therefore, the workpiece needs to be well press down to the working surface of the table and the most important thing is to feed (move) the workpiece as much as possible slower.

Note! More revs and less pitch is much better than the other way around.

  • When working with a jigsaw (with or without a table), it is useful to remember that move jigsaw blades are usually of the order 15–20 mm, this value for your tool must be read in the instructions or determined by yourself. Material thicker than this value should only be sawn with divorce teeth. Otherwise shavings will not be completely removed, which is fraught with overheating and jamming of the web.
  • Between the work surface of the table and sole jigsaw can pave the sheet dense rubber, having previously made an incision for the file. Assemble the table and let the canvas work a little idle so that the canvas "gets used" to the slot in the rubber. This is will protect moving nodes of an inverted jigsaw from a large number sawdust, for which it is not designed, because in the normal mode, the designers of the tool clearly did not count on such a number of them.
  • Protective glasses - necessary. And it is also necessary to organize the inclusion of the device through pedal or provide another way instant turning off the tool. But that is a topic for another article.
  • Do not be afraid creatively think and improve their tools, because any idea - just a starting point for creativity, and universal solutions do not exist.

For more information on making a table for an electric jigsaw, see video:

Recently, I have been very interested in cutting out with a jigsaw, I don’t even know why it would be. It all started with the fact that I needed to cut a few gears out of plywood...

And off we go. At first I sawed the gears manually, then I thought, pumping a muscle with a manual jigsaw is certainly good, but if you automate the process, it will be much faster!

So, for starters, get acquainted, this is a manual jigsaw for artistic sawing.

(all photos in this article were found on the Internet)

To cut, you need files, they are thin like wire, with sharp teeth. Previously, such files were sold in a pack of 50 pieces. Recently I went to the store, so these "bimesmen" began to sell them individually. During the evening, you can break a couple of pieces of such files.

For sawing, we also need a special table, it can be a board with a conical slot, screwed to the table with screws or a clamp.

For the convenience of attaching files to the machine, it is better to use a special device that will compress the contour of the jigsaw, so you can easily change the file without effort. With the help of a wooden eccentric, compression occurs.

And now about automation. In the next photo you see a factory-type desktop jigsaw; on the Internet you can find a sea of various modifications. This thing is not very expensive, but even if I really want it in my city, I can’t find it, and in principle, there’s nothing to it.

Industrial machines are certainly good, but I will probably use them for a couple of months and abandon this occupation, and in general, such a machine, as I found out, can be easily assembled by myself from plywood and wooden blocks.

The next photo uses an industrial manual jigsaw and a spring to return the file.

So, we can easily assemble a desktop jigsaw with our own hands at home. I personally did this, but I have a special design, there are no photos of me in this article, but I will definitely post it, as well as a video in work.
