In patriarchal Belarus, the work of a miller was considered very honorable, since one cannot do without a mill in the countryside, especially in the autumn, when harvested crop cereals had to be processed into flour. Cable- we hear this word very often, but we never think about what this cable is and where it is used. Today it is appropriate to give a little background on this matter.

The word cable comes from the Dutch cable(rope, cable) and denotes an electrical, one or more insulated conductors enclosed in a hermetic sheath, over which protective covers are applied.

The cable is used to transmit electrical energy or signals over a distance (high-voltage power lines, power supply industrial enterprises, transport and communal facilities; trunk communication lines, urban telephone network, radio and television facilities; power supply to moving working machines; electrical equipment of ships, aircraft). All these productions have been established in Russia thanks to cable industry professionals.

The design of the cable significantly depends on the conditions of its laying and operation - underground, in water, in air, in chemically active environments, at low or high temperatures, at high humidity.

The date of today's professional holiday is related to the event that took place on October 25, 1879. On this day, the engineer of the German electrical company Siemens & Halske, Mr. K.Siemens, was issued a certificate allowing work to be carried out at the plant built by the company for the production of insulated wire and telegraph cables in the Russian city of St. Petersburg. This day is considered the day of formation of the cable industry in Russia, the history of which, therefore, has been going on for more than 130 years.

The beginning of the 20th century was marked in Russia by the intensive development of the domestic cable industry. Cable factories were launched in Moscow, Kolchugino. In 1916, cable products in the country were produced by four cable factories, which during the years of the Great Patriotic War quickly reorganized the work in accordance with the needs of the front.

Currently The cable industry in Russia has approximately 350 enterprises. The industry is developing dynamically and therefore represents a profitable investment platform.

Folk holidays October 25, 2017

  • Andron Stargazer. The national holiday "Andron the Astrologer" is celebrated on October 25 (according to the old style - October 12). In the church calendar, this is the date of memory of the three holy martyrs - Prov, Tarakh and Andronicus. Other names of the holiday: "Astrologer", "Miller's Day", "Andron", "Prov", "Tarakh". On this day, from noon until midnight, the appearance of stars was observed. The stars told about the weather and the harvest. During the persecution of Christians, three men were seized and brought to trial before the ruler. The torturers took turns asking Prov, Tarakh and Andronicus about their names. And each of them gave the same answer: "I am a Christian, and this name is dearer to me than the one given by my parents." Three martyrs were subjected to new tortures, but at all interrogations they said that they were not afraid of death, because they would come to life in heaven. Having lost hope of turning Christians away from the faith, the pagans executed the men. St. Andron (Andronicus) in Russia was considered a wise astrologer. “Andron can reach the sky with a pole, draw stars with a scoop,” our ancestors said. On the day of the memory of the saint, it was customary to watch the starry sky until midnight. By the stars they judged both the weather and the future harvest. So, if the sky was starry, peas should have been born the next year. Bright stars foreshadowed frost, dim - thaw, and blinking - a change in the weather. If they saw a shooting star, they expected winds and a dry year. On October 25, people prayed that the star of human life would not roll over the mountain. It was believed that these celestial bodies have a great influence on the fate of people. With the advent of a new star, a person is born, and with the extinction, a person dies. The brighter his star, the happier fate will be. In the old days, people were afraid of starfall, as it was considered a harbinger of war, epidemics, the death of many people or the entire state. By Andron the Stargazer, they usually finished grinding the grain, which began with Thekla Zarevnitsa (October 7). The millers could finally take a break, which is why this day was considered the holiday of the millers. In the evening, the millers laid a solemn table (sometimes, instead of a festive table, they laid a real millstone). In connection with the end of the grinding of grain, the most popular dish on the peasant table was porridge - barley, oatmeal or millet. Porridge was served with butter or bacon, and for children it was seasoned with sweet jam. On October 25, it was impossible to laugh out loud, it was believed that a laughing person would get himself a terrible torment. In Russia, they treated those born on this day with special sympathy - according to popular beliefs, this person will take a sip of a lot of grief in life. On Provo, it was also impossible to offend anyone, otherwise the offender would not have any happiness. It was impossible to ask at the knock on the door: “Who is there?” - so as not to let trouble into the house. Traditionally, a ribbon was tied on the door gate and a cherished prayer was said, which protected people from troubles and torment.
