Independent connection of the gas column is an extremely dangerous occupation. In accordance with state regulations, only services with a special installation license can carry out these works (same with heating). However, replacing an old device with a new one is allowed, but not thoroughly installed from scratch.

Below are the standards for installing a geyser according to SNiP, they are valid for both apartments and private houses in Moscow.

The room for installing a geyser is at least 7m3.
The wall on which it is planned to place the equipment must be made of fireproof material (brick, concrete).
The presence of good ventilation and windows in the room where the column is installed is a prerequisite.
Ceiling height not less than 2 meters.
To place the device, you will have to find a chimney in the room.
Adequate operation of the entire system is possible at a water pressure of 1 atm.
Unauthorized installation in the bathroom and toilet is prohibited. In addition, in the kitchen, the unit must be at a distance of at least 10 cm from hob, but you can't hang it over it.

These were the latest norms of SNiP. The old ones are different to some extent. If you have an old style column in the bathroom, you can replace it with a new one - this will not be a violation of the law.

We prepare documents before connecting the geyser

a photocopy of the technical passport of the gas meter and a conclusion on its verification; a copy of the entire project and a stamp from the Gazprom branch.

How to install a geyser

Now we come to the actual installation of a gas water heater in the apartment. After you have managed to register activities in all inspections, install gas lines, receive a complete set of documentation and fulfill all technical conditions, setting up a gas column will not be difficult.

Main stages:

Remove the front panel and determine the location of the anchors by marking the fasteners. Checking the correctness of the markup is carried out using building level. Drill holes, screw in dowels and anchors.
Install the fixing plate (present in most models) and align with the building level.
Place the column directly on the plate. A characteristic click will indicate the correctness of this action.
From the outlet of the water heater to the common chimney, put corrugated pipe. Work the wall with a perforator, insert a chimney there. The space between the wall and the chimney must be sealed with foam.

Selecting a location for installation

The norms for installing a geyser in an apartment require the correct placement of equipment. First of all, they are based on the installation of the hood in accordance with all the rules, the convenience of the location of the water heater and the possibility of communications.

The volume of the room must exceed 8m3.

The wall on which the unit is hung must be fireproof. Otherwise, a galvanized metal sheet up to 1 mm thick is used. If we talk about at what height to hang a geyser, then everything is for sure - from the side panel to the wall at least 15 cm and in front of the front panel at least 60 cm of free space.

Training

If you need to replace the column, then first of all we dismantle the old device. Be sure to check the quality of the locking of the valve for gas pipe to avoid gas leakage. All valves in the water supply must be closed.

Now disconnect all pipes and a flexible gas hose from the column. The chimney is also being dismantled. The column is removed (after detaching the front panel).

Very often the wall needs cosmetic repairs. Old fasteners are removed, and the holes are filled with a special solution.

When finishing installation, the wall is leveled. A special adapter is connected to the chimney for connecting corrugations. pipes.

Installation

You will need:

drill (or puncher) with a set of drills (0.8-1 cm);
a set of fasteners (self-tapping screws, anchors), the type of fastening is selected depending on the speaker manufacturer;

To gain access to the water heater fasteners, you need to remove the front panel. Further, according to the markings of these fasteners, mark on the wall the places of fastening of anchors or hooks. Drill a hole at the desired height and fix the plate, level it. Next, drill the remaining holes. This completes the installation.

It remains to fix the water heater. Set the front panel aside so as not to damage it (it is too early to attach it yet).

The chimney for the column is most often a corrugated flexible pipe made of steel. Walk along the wall with a perforator, then insert the chimney. The remaining gap is either closed non-combustible insulation, or simply filled with foam.

Gas connection

When installing equipment for the first time, it is required to lay a pipe with gas. This work is carried out exclusively by specialists of gas services who have the appropriate permits. To do this, you will have to fill out an application and invite the masters. They will deal with the insertion of the tee into the pipe going to the stove. A pipe is connected to the tee and then moved to the installation site.

If you know the exact model of the device, bring the tube to the place of its junction in order to avoid the use of a flexible hose. Keep in mind that there is a gas valve in front of the connection. First of all, the column is mounted on the wall, and therefore the gas pipe is connected to it.

An even simpler way is to bring the edge of the pipe up to a distance of 50 cm to the installation site and complete the path by connecting the gas valve. In this case, you do not have to focus on the work schedule of the gas service masters, and perform installation at a convenient time.

Water connection

Trumpet with cold water is sent to the apparatus, and hot wiring is carried out throughout the house. It is better to connect to the water heater using an American (connection with a movable cap nut).

For hot and cold water lines, be sure to place ball valves as shut-off valves.

The durability of the heat exchanger depends on the purity of the water. Therefore, it is advisable to install a filter.

Pipes can be run in two ways:

At a distance of less than 30 cm, connect with a flexible hose or copper tube.
Depending on the material of the main wiring, make a direct connection of metal-plastic, polypropylene, steel pipes.

Starting and configuring the geyser

Before starting, check for seams. Gas and water pipes must be airtight. To check if this is the case, there is a proven way:

treat all connections and fittings with soapy water;

open the gas cock;
check for bubbles on the connections;
it is much easier to check the joints of the water supply, just make sure they are dry.

The launch is carried out according to the instructions of the purchased device. Another important step is setup. It is produced using a pressure gauge (the price of this device can vary greatly depending on the functionality). The gas pressure is set with an adjustment bolt, and the air supply with a shim.

Adjusting the water flow - the closer to the maximum, the greater the flow, therefore, the water is colder.

Not all craftsmen know how to properly set up a geyser and simply do not do it, leaving it as it is (by default). But we do not recommend leaving the factory settings and adjusting yourself.

Temperature setting

Set the gas and water supply knob on the heater to minimum.
Open the gas and water supply valves on the pipelines.
open the faucet hot water and adjust the water pressure you need using the knob on the geyser.
Wait 1-2 minutes and take the temperature. Using the gas supply knob on the column, increase the flame, thereby raising the water temperature to the desired one.
When the water temperature is comfortable, you can leave all adjustments alone and use the water.

In the future, you can adjust the temperature with another knob (supply of heated water).

Pressure setting

When adjusting the column, sometimes unpleasant moments arise. A new column either turns on at a very low pressure, or does not want to start at all. It depends on the increased or reduced pressure of water in the pipeline and is eliminated in the following ways.

With our water quality, heat exchangers in gas water heaters become clogged with scale quite quickly and very much, which reduces their thermal conductivity and increases gas consumption.

The longest, in time, process is cleaning the main tube(radiator) from deposits arising from heating tap water. If you turn the gas knob to the end, and the water coming out is barely warm, then this indicates that the heat exchanger is clogged with ordinary scale, which does not transfer heat well.

This happens quite often if the geyser is without auto-ignition (with an igniter). Also, scale is formed if you set the water heating temperature too high. The unit overheats, the tube (radiator) heats up to 80-850, which contributes to the rapid (a little over an hour) scale formation. Isn't it better to just turn off the column in time? Then there will be no problems, because 40-600 is enough for all washing and washing processes.

Before starting work on the heat exchanger, check the inlet cock or valve. Maybe the whole reason is in their clogging. But if they are serviceable, it is necessary to get rid of deposits in the tube.

There are two ways to solve the problem with scale. We will consider both options.

Auto

The Cillit KalkEx cleaning system does the job pretty well. With its help, you can quickly clean any boilers from scale. Unfortunately, it is not very accessible to ordinary users of gas water heaters.

This is an expensive method using a special device(Cillit KalkEx) and a set of special preparations for flushing. Your column does not even need to be removed from the wall. Just need to disconnect the water hoses for water (inlet/outlet).

The cleaning device is connected to the column, and it drives the heated reagents in a closed cycle (in a circle). Scale under their action decomposes, is washed out and merges.

Manual

Cheap but long and laborious process. For its implementation, it is necessary to disassemble the water heater almost completely and then rinse it manually.

The following materials and tools will help us with this:

wrenches (set);
screwdrivers (phillips and regular);
paronite gaskets (set);
rubber hose;
vinegar essence or antiscale agent.

Disassembly of the gas apparatus

To remove the heat exchanger proceed as follows:

first block the access of cold water;
then we remove the external elements that prevent disassembly (knobs of switches, regulators);
remove the cover, and to do this, unscrew the screws located on back wall unit, lift and remove the cover;
open the "hot" tap;
unscrew the supply tube from the heat exchanger and move it away;

Flushing the system

After the water has completely drained, we put the hose on the heat exchanger tube and raise it above the level of the column. Slowly pour the solution we prepared into the hose and leave the column for 4-6 hours.

Next, you need to slightly open the water supply tap and observe the water that will come out of the column, if you saw a lot of scale, then our work was not in vain - we got rid of it. If there is no scale in the outgoing water, then we repeat the whole process again.

The gas stove does not ignite

A water heater failure can occur for many reasons. We list the most likely ones:
The most simple reason this trouble is the lack of normal draft in the chimney. If the chimney is clogged and there is no “draught” in it, then the column may not ignite.
To check for a malfunction, you can bring a piece of newspaper, a napkin, or a lit match to the chimney. If they tremble, then the thrust is in order. Otherwise, you will need to clean the chimney.
If the device (only in units with auto-ignition from batteries or electrical network) does not ignite, then the fault is the discharge of the batteries or a malfunction of the wires, the igniter unit. Eliminated by inserting batteries or checking the electric ignition system.

Failure of the igniter system may occur due to poor pressure water. Open any faucet with cold water and check the pressure, if it is weak, then you can call the housing office and find out what the problem is.

If the column does not ignite when water is supplied or turns on only at very high pressure, then the problem is most likely in the membrane, which, due to wear, does not respond well to the water passing through it. In this case, it must be replaced.

The geyser spontaneously turns off

A temperature sensor is installed on each geyser, which ensures that the geyser does not overheat in case of failure column may spontaneously turn off during operation. It usually looks like this:

Water heater is leaking

If you see similar spots on your column, then be sure that it is leaking and needs repair.

This malfunction can occur mainly in geysers that have been operating for a long time. The two main reasons for leakage are:

Radiator leaked.

Cracked pipes (bends) or gaskets in the joints.
Replacing a radiator or taps is quite expensive. Therefore, there is a reason to repair the gas column on your own. For repair you need:

screwdrivers (cross and regular);
wrenches (set);
solder with rosin;
vacuum cleaner;
solvent;
"skin".

Hole sealing

Due to harsh working conditions, the radiator or taps can burn out and holes appear on them. If you have determined where the leak is, then you can repair a small hole with an ordinary soldering iron.

Preparing a geyser for repair

Drain all liquid from the system - open only the hot water tap, unscrew the nut on the cold water inlet pipe, and most of the water will flow out;
Remove the radiator completely;
Examine the entire tube. - if you see "green" - clean and inspect these places for cracks.

When you find leaks, you need to do the following:

clean the holes found with a “sandpaper” and immediately wipe with a cloth with a solvent (this will remove the remnants of fat, soot and dirt);
using rosin with solder, tin this place with a 100-watt sanding iron (for lack of rosin, use aspirin);
rub the crack or hole with solder, and after it cools, add more tin (the layer should be 1-2 mm).

Attention! In some cases, with holes of about 5 cm, the craftsmen apply a “temporary” overlay made of copper or aluminum plate, securing it with thick wire or metal tape. But as a rule, such a “temporary” solution remains for a long time. We recommend replacing the radiator completely and forget about its leaks.

Faulty gaskets and tubes

Replacing flexible hoses of this type does not require special skills, it can be done by anyone with a wrench.

Very often, leaks form at the points where the taps are connected to the heater from the outside or to the internal nodes of the dispenser. All connections are made by "American" with gaskets inside.

Due to constant heating/cooling, the rubberized liners either melt or lose their properties and harden. Cracks appear in them, through which water flows.
If you notice a gas column leak in such connections, then replace the gaskets. Using a wrench (mainly 24), unscrew the nut and replace.

It also happens that the flanges on the tubes crack over time - in this case, you need to replace the entire tube.

The geyser turns on with pops

Be sure to change the batteries in the gas column in time, because if they are dead, your column will start to make pops when turned on. Also, due to dead batteries, the column may spontaneously turn off.

These sounds when turned on and during operation indicate the following points:

due to the low gas pressure, a little air got into the system (into the burner), which gave rise to a microexplosion;
the flame breaks down due to the high pressure of the gas;
jet blockage;
small ventilation draft;
the batteries have run out.

On your own, you can only eliminate the malfunctions described in the last two paragraphs.

The gas water heater does not heat the water well

This can happen for several reasons.

The simplest reason is incorrectly selected gas column. You saved money and bought a low wattage heater unable to meet your hot water needs.
The second reason is the low gas pressure in the pipes (in the apartment). Call the gasman to check the system.
The third reason is the usual blockage (jet, filters, scale, hoses, etc.), some of which are described above. You can check this by the color of the fire, which changes from time to time. This is also evidenced by the presence of soot.

You can only adjust the temperature and clean the column yourself.

So, for installation, you need the following tools:

dowel;
filter on a magnet and on salt;
drill;
the required number of taps;
pipeline;
chimney corrugation;
gas pipe;

in fact, the column itself.

The device is installed only in the kitchen and only on the wall, which is made of refractory material. The distance from the column to the wall surface should be at least 2 centimeters, if it turns out more, then it's even better. An asbestos sheet should also be laid here, which should have a thickness of at least 0.3 centimeters.

Important! The apartment / house must have a chimney that will remove the products of gas combustion. It will consist not only of vertical, but also of horizontal sections, and on them it must go under a slope (approximately 0.2 centimeters per linear meter).

So that the pipeline does not accidentally break through, the geyser should be installed only when the water is completely drained from the system.

But installation, as we have said, is not the most important thing. It is also important that the device is used correctly, for which certain operating rules must be observed. If you do not do this, then even the most expensive and high-quality model will soon break. So we want to prevent this.
