The Honeywell FR 124 draft regulator is used to control the air supply to the furnace of a solid fuel boiler without the use of any electrical installations.
The Honeywell FR 124 draft regulator is a thermostat - you set the boiler temperature in the range from 30 to 90 °C, and the regulator maintains this temperature.
The regulator operates a lever, which in turn raises or lowers the air damper chain (closing/opening), adjusting the amount of air entering the combustion chamber.

1. Heat water in a solid fuel boiler to a temperature of about 60 °C.
2. Set the controller to 60 °C.
3. Adjust the air supply damper so that it is ajar by 1-2 mm. - this is done by hand, shortening or increasing the length of the chain.
4. Check: by setting the regulator to 70 °C, and monitor the water temperature. When reaching 70 or 75 degrees, the air supply damper to the boiler should close.

1. Preparation for kindling, kindling
1.1.After filling heating system and boiler with water, check the tightness of the entire system. Do this before lighting up the boiler and after lighting it up, when the boiler reaches normal operating conditions.
1.2.Check whether the lower doors for cleaning the ash of the boiler are tightly closed (fig.1, no. 13). Before loading firewood into the combustion chamber of the boiler, necessarily lift the air distributor (fig.1, no. 16). The ring hanging at the end of the cable (on the right) above the firewood loading door must be smoothly pulled down and fastened onto the hook to fix the cable (Fig. 1, No. 24) at the bottom of the boiler. It is necessary to completely close the air supply damper (Fig. 1, No. 14) using the draft regulator knob (turning it towards 30 0 С value).
1.3 Throw firewood through the firewood loading door (Fig.1, No.12) into the combustion chamber of the boiler (Fig.1 No.1). Try to make the firewood fall horizontally (always in the same direction): longer in the middle, shorter at the edges. It is not recommended to fall perpendicularly into the middle of the log, so you can fill in the edges. The spaces between the firewood can be filled with sawdust or other fine bulk fuels. Pressed sawdust in the form of granules is particularly suitable. Fuel is loaded approximately to the lower edge of the firewood loading door. Then, closer to the door (preferably over the entire area), paper is placed and, having removed the ring from the hook for fixing the lifting cable, we smoothly lower the air distributor down so that it lies on top of the loaded firewood. After that, with finely chopped wood, chips, we cover the air distributor with a layer about 10-15 cm thick on all sides and light it. The fuel loading door opens slightly, leaving a gap 2-5 cm wide. When the fuel flares up well, the desired working temperature boiler and the firewood loading door closes immediately.
Attention! It is forbidden to store firewood in the boiler. Having loaded firewood, it is necessary to light them.
Putting firewood, chips on the air distributor is possible only when kindling firewood in the combustion chamber. During combustion, throw firewood without raising the air distributor, strictly prohibited. It is also forbidden to let in air during kindling and combustion through the bottom door to clean the ashes. It is not recommended to keep the wood loading door open for a long time during kindling, and even more so during the burning of firewood in the boiler. Then more fuel is consumed, air is not properly distributed in the combustion chamber. During combustion, the air distributor must not be raised. Striking the air distributor softened by heat on the firewood, bend it.
2. Service
2.1. Since the air is fed into the combustion chamber from above, the amount of ash in the boiler does not interfere with the combustion process. This allows the ash to be removed only 2-3 times a month, depending on the intensity of heating (type of fuel). The ash is removed from the boiler through the ash cleaning door (Fig. 1, No. 13).
Attention! In any case of cleaning the boiler, strictly follow the established procedure:
a) Clean the boiler only after complete combustion fuel and cooling the boiler to a temperature not higher than + 40 0 С.
b) Turn the draft control knob towards 30 0 C so that the air supply damper is completely closed (Fig. 1, No. 14).
c) The fuel loading door (Fig. 1 No. 12) must be hermetically closed.
d) Open the ash cleaning door (Fig. 1, No. 13) and use a scraper and a scoop to scrape the ash into a metal container (box, bucket).
e) After removing the ash, close the door tightly.
2.2. Soot and deposits below the firewood loading door do not need to be cleaned. Each time, when firewood is lit upstairs, after previous heatings, the accumulated soot and resin are partially knocked off when firewood is thrown into the combustion chamber, and the rest burns out.
2.3. Cleaning of soot and plaque in the heat transfer slot located between the inner contour of the housing (Fig. 1, No. 2) and the air heating chamber (Fig. 1, No. 18) is carried out in the following order:
a) turn the draft regulator knob towards 30 0 C to tightly close the air supply damper,
b) after 20 seconds, slowly open the firewood loading door,
c) the air distributor must be lowered to the bottom of the boiler,
d) using a wrench, release two nuts fixing the power damper (Fig.1, No. 20) and pull the power damper (Fig.1, No. 19) toward you or remove by unscrewing the nuts,
e) using a scraper or a metal brush, remove plaque and soot in the gap, and fasten the power damper again.
2.4. A lowered air distributor can scoop up old ash, so check its slots occasionally and clean them.
2.5. If you notice that the air supply pipe (fig. 1, no. 21) is more difficult to move, clean it with a wire brush.
2.6. Check the water pressure in the heating system at least once every two weeks. Add if necessary. If the system is equipped with an open expansion vessel, check the water level in it.
2.7. When the boiler is not heated, at an air temperature below 0 0 C, water is released from the heating system.
3. Rules for installing draft regulator "Honeywell" FR 124.
3.1. The draft regulator FR 124 regulates the air flow into the furnace. With its help, by opening and closing the air supply damper of the solid fuel boiler, the desired temperature of the water entering the system is maintained.
3.2. The air supply cover (fig.1, no. 14) is inserted into the air supply hole, which is located on the top of the boiler body. The cover must be inserted in such a way that it attached the holder (rack) was to the center of the top of the boiler.
3.3. The draft regulator lever is connected by a chain to the air supply cover holder. It is recommended to cut off the excess length of the chain so that it does not interfere later (leaving a couple of spare loops).
3.4. When the water in the boiler is heated to 70 0 C, the air inlet cover is closed, the draft regulator is set to 70 0 C value. The chain is hung so that it is taut, but the air supply cover is slightly open for 1-2 mm or closed. After lowering the water temperature in the boiler, the draft regulator automatically opens the air supply damper. When the temperature reaches 70 0 С or slightly exceeds the mentioned value, the regulator automatically closes the damper. Thus, the set operating temperature in the boiler is maintained. In case of disconnection of the chain or noticing a discrepancy between the set temperature and the temperature of the boiler, the draft regulator is re-set in the manner described above.

Honeywell FR124 draft regulator controls the combustion process by changing the air supply to the boiler.
The built-in thermostat measures the temperature in the boiler and, in accordance with the set temperature, controls the air supply to the solid fuel boiler by means of a lever with a chain, opening or closing the air damper.
The regulator is compatible with most solid fuel boilers (Viadrus, Buderus, KCHM, ZOTA, Teplodar, Atmos, Don, etc.) Thanks to it, significant fuel savings are achieved.
Operating principle:
The draft regulator FR 124 regulates the air flow into the furnace. With its help, by opening and closing the air supply damper of the solid fuel boiler, the desired temperature of the water entering the system is maintained.
The air supply cover is inserted into the air supply hole, which is located on the top of the boiler body. The lid must be inserted in such a way that the holder (stand) attached to it is in the center of the top of the boiler.

After installing the draft regulator on a solid fuel boiler, the free end of the chain is left hanging freely. It is attached to the damper when adjusting the regulator.
Setting. Fire the boiler with the door manually open. Set the button on the regulator to 60 °C. When the water temperature reaches 60 °C and after a few minutes of stabilization, adjust the chain hanger so that the door remains open by approximately 1-2 mm. Now you need to set the required temperature. If during operation in a stabilized state the temperature of the boiler is below the set value, shorten the circuit. If the boiler temperature is higher than the set one, lengthen the chain. But keep in mind that the temperature of the boiler can be affected by the amount of fuel and ash, the position of the secondary air, the inertia of the boiler and the entire heating system.
