Hinges for interior doors

Interior doors, depending on their design and weight, are installed in door frames using various canopies and hinges. How to choose the right hinged fittings for a particular situation? Which loops are best? How many do you need for your door?

Before you go in search of door hinges, you need to clarify what features the door structure has. Pay attention to the following points:

  • is there a vestibule;
  • what is the weight of the canvas;
  • how intensively the door will be used;
  • in which direction the sash opens;
  • door leaf width;
  • what degree of burglary resistance is required to provide.

It remains to decide which loops to choose and in what quantity.

Material

Domestic and foreign manufacturers present models from various metals and alloys that have special properties.

  • Brass-plated. The basis is aluminum, zinc or steel alloys. Brass coating provides easy movement of rubbing parts and protects them from corrosion.
  • Brass. Strong and durable material easily withstands high loads and the impressive weight of the door leaf. Available in polished or chrome plated.
  • Steel . The most durable products Still, they are priced accordingly. Therefore, installing them on interior canvases is not always economical. In most cases, they are used for input groups.

Types of door hinges

Card

The design of card loops is quite simple. The basis of the design is a split cylinder. Its upper part is made in the form of a nest, and the counterpart contains a pin, which, in fact, holds the weight of the sash. For attachment to the frame and door leaf, the canopy has plates (cards, wings) welded to the main parts. Each of them has 3-5 holes for stationary fasteners.

This type of hinge is quite diverse and is divided into subgroups: overhead, mortise, corner, for swing doors.

Overhead

For installation, it is enough to fasten the "wings" of the canopies. To eliminate the gap that inevitably appears when closing, manufacturers have invented the so-called. "butterfly" - a loop, the "wings" of which enter one another like a puzzle and form a single plane. They don't have great endurance. Suitable only for light "Finnish" doors with cardboard filler. A screwdriver is enough to hang the door leaf.

Mortise

An ideal vestibule is formed by mortise models, under which, with the help of a chisel, recesses are selected that correspond to the shape of the fittings. A chisel is suitable for hanging one door, and when you need to install 10 canvases, it is better to use a manual router.

corner

For doors with a vestibule (with a selected quarter), special hinges are used, in which the "wings" are made in the form of a corner. This ensures proper fit of the door to the frame.

For swing doors

Since the pendulum doors open in both directions, another, third plate has been added to the design of the card hinges. It does not have holes for fasteners, it forms an additional fold axis, due to which increased hinge mobility is ensured.

Left-right, with right-hand and left-hand opening

Left and right models are detachable. The canvas can be removed at any time without dismantling the loop. When choosing, you need to pay attention to which direction the canopy opens. Over time, the upper part deviates somewhat from the axis and sags.

Before choosing door canopies (hinges), you need to decide which (left or right) canopies we need. To do this, we decide in which direction the doors will open.

We stand on the side of the canopies (the doors open towards themselves): if the canopies are located on the left, then they are left, if they are on the right, they are right. Accordingly, the left canopies are installed on the door that opens clockwise (with the right hand towards yourself), and the right one - on the door that opens counterclockwise (with the left hand towards yourself).

Turn the loop with the right side facing you. In this case, the axial pin must be directed upwards. If the mentioned pin is on the right, as in the photo, this is the right loop.

Universal

The load in the hinges is distributed more evenly. Instead of one pairing, 4 or more are provided. Each friction unit is equipped with a sleeve bearing to reduce friction. Such models last longer, withstand loads more easily. However, in order to remove the sash, you will need to unscrew the loop.

screwed

Instead of card plates, pins are used for fastening to the frame and sash. Two on each side. In a pair, one of the pins is threaded. Virtually invisible. Easily mounted. Do not require the use of a milling cutter and chisels. Ideal for quarter doors. Do not use on loose, weak bases and heavy sashes. In frame ("Finnish") canvases, a strong beam must be laid at the installation site. Dismantling is not provided.

Hidden

Mortise hinges, which have three axes of rotation, hidden from prying eyes in the depths of the mechanism. When closed, they are completely invisible, because. completely hidden in the sash. High degree of burglary resistance. Suitable for protected areas. Withstand the heavy weight of the door leaf.

Work on the installation and adjustment of loops is complex, requiring the skill of specialists.

Italian

End hinges are rarely used in the homes of our compatriots. At the same time, they are great for interior doors in interiors where it is undesirable to show the presence of awnings and other fittings. Italian models are mounted at the top and bottom of the door leaf from the end.

Depending on the size of the canopy and its material, they may be suitable for sashes with light and medium weights.

Decorative

For antique-styled interiors, wrought-iron aesthetic artists make decorative canopies. They can be described as overhead card. Their "wings" take the most bizarre shape and serve as a decoration for the sash.

How to calculate the number of hinges for a door

Usually interior doors are quite light, from 25 to 40 kg. In this case, it is allowed to hang the sash on two hinges, which are located at the top and bottom of the canvas at a distance of 25 cm from the edge.

With an increase in the mass of the sash to 60 kg or with a width of more than 80 cm, an additional canopy will be required, which is most often installed at the top, stepping back 25 cm from the upper hinge.
