leatherette upholstery- the most popular type of finish, which can not only give the door a neat, well-groomed appearance, but also improve its noise and heat protection, eliminate cold and dust from entering the apartment.

You can choose material of non-standard color

Properties of dermantin

Modern leatherette, vinyl artificial leather or artificial leather is a material with improved performance. It is an elastic two-layer product - a durable fabric coated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Such decorative material is quite inexpensive and allows even the owner without special skills to upholster the door with his own hands. The result is a coating that has a number of positive properties:

mechanical strength, resistance to abrasion, which ensures a long service life;

no toxic secretions, environmental cleanliness - the conditions necessary for products that are allowed to be used in a residential area;

excellent aesthetic parameters, the possibility of being produced in any shade of the color spectrum, two-tone, with a pearl effect, with a different surface structure, for example, in the form of an embossed pattern or imitation of natural leather;

resistance to high and low temperatures, ultraviolet radiation, the influence of moisture, which makes it possible to use it universally, including applications in heated, cold rooms, and outdoors.

Fasten the material firmly

How to insulate doors?

In order for do-it-yourself upholstery of the door with dermantine to improve living conditions, protect well from drafts, ingress of extraneous sounds, one more layer should be used - warming. Depending on the thickness of the insulation, the upholstery is divided into ordinary and blown.

For the layer, different materials are used. They have different properties, service life and, accordingly, price.

  1. Foam rubber- a very popular material that is often used for insulation. It has a pleasant elasticity, moisture resistance, easy to use, easy to cut and fasten. Manufacturers guarantee its reliability for 15 years.
  2. Batting- a traditional product used for insulation, produced on the basis of natural cotton, wool, synthetic fiber, with a service life of about 30 years.
  3. Modern mineral fiber insulation, which include "Ursa", "Isover", "Rockwool" and many others, used up to 50 years.
  4. Isolonteip- is a polyethylene foam type with a one- or two-sided self-adhesive layer, the period of operation of which is practically unlimited - determined by the manufacturers at 80 years.

Materials and tools for door upholstery

In order for the door upholstery to be of high quality with your own hands, you need to be patient, as well as artificial leather, insulation, decorative nails, finishing cord, wire, thread. The decoration looks beautiful with the help of thin strips of dermantin, which have the ability to twist into a smooth tube. It can be used to obtain an ornament, laying between fasteners.

No special tools are needed. Those that are in every household will come in handy - a hammer, a knife, scissors, a screwdriver, a tape measure.

Unlike wooden canvases, which are finished with nails, metal varieties can be covered by fixing dermantine with glue.

Calculation of dermantin

To determine the amount of material, one should take into account the height, width of the door leaf, as well as the length for the manufacture of rollers around its perimeter, which allow closing the existing gaps. Depending on the desired type and size of the bend, 30-50 cm must be added to the dimensions of the door.

It is important to measure the amount of material correctly

Preparatory process

Before you start upholstering the door with leatherette with your own hands, you should dismantle the lock, handles, peephole, apartment number, remove it from the hinges, and remove the old coating that interferes. For the convenience of work, so that all operations for fixing the finish take place neatly, it is better to place the product horizontally, on a hill, for example, a table, stools or other base.

Mounting dermantin on the door

  1. Lay insulation and vinyl artificial leather on the door leaf. In the corners and around the perimeter, temporarily fix them with small nails. From the side of the longer part, along its height, carefully bend the skin to a length of about 5 cm. Securely fasten it with decorative nails, hammering them at the desired distance, usually 5-10 cm. In order not to damage curly hats, it is worth providing soft lining on them when hitting.
  2. To make the upholstery of the door with your own hands turned out to be even, without flaws, the dermantin should, slightly stretching, be nailed symmetrically on the opposite side of the canvas, avoiding the formation of wrinkles and distortions. Do the same procedure for its lower and upper short parts. At the bottom of the canvas, the material should be fixed, raising it to the level of the height of the threshold.
  3. In the process of installing the skin, it is desirable to outline the future location of the handles, core, and all fittings. This is important so as not to spoil the finished coating by punching holes at random.
  4. According to the chosen style or as desired, you can leave the artificial leather smooth, finish it with nails in the form of geometric shapes, rhombuses, squares, stripes, in the form of graceful lines or patterns. For additional finishing, you can use a decorative cord, string, copper wire, lining on hats.
  5. To prevent the formation of drafts, you can slightly increase the release of the skin for bending along the edges, make rollers from dermantin and insulation, placing them first along the perimeter of the door from the outside, except for the places where the hinges are attached. For this, strips of vinyl leather 8-10 cm wide are used, where thin insulation tapes are inserted.

Practical and inexpensive decoration with dermantin will give the doors a beautiful look in the desired color, with a stylish surface. Such upholstery will make it possible to simultaneously warm the apartment and improve sound insulation.
