How to assemble and install a door frame

Much depends on the correct assembly and installation of the door frame. Skews and gaps can lead to loosening, jamming or other problems with the door, which will later be difficult to fix.

The door frame must be correctly fitted to the hinged door, perfectly aligned horizontally and vertically, and firmly fixed in the doorway. In addition, additional sealing is carried out when installing the door frame in order to exclude drafts and atmospheric effects on the wooden door.

Types of wooden door frames for the house

  1. Wooden boxes for doorways are made separately or complete with door leafs - blocks. The parameters of the door frames depend on the width and height of the openings and doors. By width, the doors are divided into single and double.
  2. Closed boxes for doors consist of four bars with a threshold drawn up in a regular rectangle. Unclosed - consist of three bars, without a threshold. Such boxes are installed, as a rule, in internal interior doorways.

Chemical processing of blanks

  1. In order for the box to stand for a long time, it must be treated with an antiseptic. After drying, the bars are covered in two or three layers of drying oil. It is advisable to use natural drying oil. Better warmed up, so it is absorbed deeper and dries faster. You can apply drying oil with a regular brush.
  2. A roofing material is laid under the threshold, and preferably a rubimast in two or three layers. If the door is external, then to prevent rotting of wood and fungus, the wooden door frame is upholstered with roofing material around the entire perimeter.

Assembly of wooden boxes for doors

  1. The height of the side vertical posts along the seam ledges should be equal to the height of the door. The standard door leaf height is 200 mm. Add 2 - 3 mm gap between the pommel and the base door leaf.
  2. In the event that you are planning a threshold, then add another 3 mm of tolerance from the bottom side. Without a nut, the gap is up to 1 cm, to prevent rubbing in case of precipitation.
  3. The door frame is assembled on the floor in a horizontal position. The fastening of the corners is carried out with wood screws, and preferably with furniture confirmations, having previously drilled holes for their diameter. The tolerance for standard mounting of confirmations is 2-3 mm less than the screw diameter.
  4. In the supine position, the door leaf itself with door hinges screwed to it is directly applied to the wooden door frame.
  5. On the door frame, a thin marking is made with a pencil for cutting the hinges. The cells under them are hollowed out with a chisel, but with the size and depth corresponding to the thickness of the loop wing. The second fastening part of the loop is screwed to the slotted cell.

The nuances of fastening wooden door frames

  1. Open door frames - must be securely fastened to the logs and logs.
  2. To do this, special grooves are made for proper fastening of the wooden door frame. The nests selected with a chisel are hidden by a decorative board that acts as a threshold.
  3. Usually, the spikes are nailed to the beams or joists, which ensures the stability of the wooden door frame.
  4. Wooden door frames are assembled from glued bars, which prevents them from warping and deforming.
  5. Assemble door frames on straight through spikes and on glue. There is another way to fasten the box, for this, long self-tapping screws are used, screwed into pre-drilled holes with dowels.
  6. The diagonal bars of the wooden box provide proper strength and rigidity. Clearance _ is windowed in a wet way, that is, with cement or gypsum mortar, and it is better to blow it out with mounting foam around the entire perimeter.

Mounting the box in the doorway

  1. Install the door frame in the designated opening. The looped side is aligned, but to the spirit level. Mortgages prepared from wooden bars are adjusted in size and installed on vertical side posts.
  2. It is advisable to drill before installing mortgages with a drill with a centered nose. Having set the door frame in level in the horizontal and vertical plane, you can start mounting.
  3. Self-tapping screws are better to drive into the holes not to the end. Having made the box, gradually tighten the screws, checking the level in all respects. Self-tapping screws can be used to adjust the state along the axes.
  4. By adjusting with self-tapping screws, the door leaf is hung on the exposed door frame. The adjustment continues until the latches and lock bolts completely match.
  5. Recently, fixing the structure with the help of mounting foam has become very popular. This is a good method, the foam mass fills all the small cracks and has a low thermal conductivity.

After the foam dries, the protruding bumps are removed with a mounting knife, and the cavities are sealed with a putty mass. In the final, the platband is stuffed from the inside and outside.
