Door visor + photo

The aesthetically decorated entrance to a private house is evidence of the presence of a zealous owner who cares about the convenience of the people living there and the harmonious appearance of his own property. The canopy above the front door is a key detail of the building's facade. Therefore, in parallel with the protective function, it should perfectly cope with the role of a decorative element. An overview analysis of the structures of canopies, the materials from which they are made, and examples of photos are given below.

Variety of species

To solve the issue of arranging the front door, it is necessary to decide on each item of the visor project. Naturally, in the first place is practicality, which is skillfully intertwined with the task of competent design. Therefore, the design is selected taking into account the following factors:

  • house size;
  • architectural style;
  • climatic conditions of the region, etc.

Most often, the visor above the door has a rigid stationary structure, although occasionally you can find retractable and folding models called awnings and baskets. Examples of such canopies are shown in the photo below:

The size

When determining the size of the door visor above the entrance, they are guided by the dimensions of the porch. It is desirable that the canopy covers not only the site area in front of the door, but also protects steps from precipitation. The standards determine that the platform should exceed the size of the door by 1.5 times. The optimal size of the visor additionally covers the area in front of the entrance by another 30 cm. Therefore, with a standard door size of 90 cm:

  • the minimum width of the top platform is 1.35 m;
  • it is better to install a canopy of at least 1.65 m.

Remark ! In order to correctly select the design of the door canopy above the entrance, it is recommended to take into account the snow and wind loads of the region.

Forms of canopies

To achieve a harmonious appearance of a canopy located above the entrance to the house, it is necessary to build on the shape of the roof. Based on this factor, choose the following forms of door visors:

  • Spherical or domed. They do not have sharp corners and tend to withstand high aerodynamic loads, which is essential if the house is located in a windy region.
  • Arched or semi-arched. The most popular form of canopies over the front door of the house, mainly made of polycarbonate. Such canopies guarantee the drainage of precipitation in a natural way, are successfully combined with many stylistic solutions and are resistant to mechanical stress.
  • Single-sided visors are simple and practical. Due to the absence of a cluttering effect, they are most suitable for small houses. It is easy to make such a design of a canopy over the door yourself.
  • Gable models are characterized by reliability and durability. Precipitation on such a visor does not accumulate, it looks harmoniously in a house with a roof of a similar shape.
  • Concave canopies over the door like a pagoda look elegant and light on the house. The basis for them is polycarbonate. However, there are restrictions for regions with high rainfall due to the danger of their constant accumulation on the roof.

Frame materials

The design of the door canopy can be made of one material or have a combined composition, when different bases are taken for the frame and cover. The support for the visor above the door is most often wooden and metal frames. What are the features of each material, consider in more detail.

Wood

It is advisable to equip a private house built from a bar or log with a wooden canopy above the entrance. The beauty and perfection of this natural material cannot be replaced by artificial products. For door visors of small sizes, a beam with a section from 40x40 to 60x60 mm will suffice. Massive canopies need a more powerful support, so building materials with a section of 100x100 or 150x150 mm are chosen for the frame. As decorative elements, the frame is decorated with openwork lattices, wooden carvings or curly balusters.

Among the advantages of a wooden canopy, the ease of working with the material is noted. The problem may be the fragility of the product, which is subject to the negative effects of the environment, including rainfall, fungal growth or damage by insects.

Advice ! Pre-treatment of the material with antiseptics and special impregnations can prevent premature destruction of the wooden canopy above the front door.
